I have an amusing story for you Steve. Last week I was on the Manly Ferry, in Sydney, and got talking to an older couple. Hey mate glad you enjoyed my challenge, I certainly enjoyed watching it and so did everyone else by the looks of it! I'm in Montreux next week by chance.... And my invoice for 10% revenue is in the post 😂

And like I said, you landed me in one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, you're worth your cut, but I'll change my address :D Have a great time there! “Everything’s so amplified in my head.” Cue emergency services siren. 😂 As always Steve, an absolute joy to watch and well done. Although that night in London isn’t my cup of tea at all.
Aesthetically, Paris is my favourite city Ive ever been to. It's unbelievably stunning. Extremely expensive and the people are so so but visually, it's the best. And the food is unreal
Back in 2012 I did something similar. I’d always wanted to travel from my home in Dundee to my friends in Marseilles entirely by rail so ….. Train Dundee tonEdinburgh then sleeper Edinburgh to London Euston; walk to Kings Cross/St Pancreas to catch Eurostar then Gare du Nord. I took an internal Paris train to the Gare de Lyons, from where I took a TGV straight to Marseilles. There, my friend met me at the station. Total time about 18 hours station to station. The journey was done when sleeper trains were reasonably priced - relatively.
I read some stat that 96% (or thereabouts, a lot anyway) of all late trains in Switzerland, the lateness is caused by trains that are arriving from other countries. So basically, Swiss trains, in Switzerland, never late. And from my experience, that’s true. Great video Steve, thank you.
Yes - I remember arriving at Berne Station for a train to Interlaken and being met by a staff member apologising for it's late running and suggesting the concourse shops or cafes to pass the time.....despite it only being 15 minutes behind schedule! I remarked how I thought it unusual for a train to run late in Switzerland - his answer "Ah, that's because it's come from Germany!"
I take the same Route for almost 20 Years now to go to Work (1 Hour each direction with 1 Trainswitch at "Zürich Altstetten" ) and my Train was late 5 times in these 20 Years, so i do not have anything to complain ^^
Never ceases to amaze me the contrast between the UK and Europe..the building's in the UK are gray and dreary and covered with lichen and algae and in Europe all lovely jubbly and pristine.. attention to detail and keeping things on point is a big thing in the EU..yeah ,not so much in the UK though🤣🤣
Great video, I really enjoyed seeing this journey alongside a fun concept of doing it within 24hrs. Also, as someone who lives in both Nottingham and London then travels to Edinburgh for work semi-regularly. I felt seen in this video…😆. First, I’ve taken the Lumo to London quite a few times and I knew you’d likely not get any sleep. It’s truly a budget train experience and they’re usually quite noisy/busy. Second, as a very frequent passenger on the train from London to Nottingham - the prices you saw are correct and absurd. Keep up the good work.
I don't know about recognising Paris so easily but when you showed the first station in Switzerland I could tell that from the architecture. Travelling around Europe last year you could virtually always tell which country you were in by the buildings. I found Swiss railways to be excellent at least the local trains in the Interlaken area. They were on time and when you reached the station the connecting train was waiting at the platform. The trains were modern, clean and comfortable, I did buy a rail pass which covered the trains, mountain railways, cable cars and lake steamers.
Epic video Steve, had me right from the start, your video editing and commentary hits a chord with all of us who watch your videos presumably, very well done :)
With seconds to spare, great work, mate! Loved this video. Your heart must have been pounding at the end. And shoutout to @NonstopEurotrip for coming up with the challenge! :) What are you going to give him in return? Also, painful to read your notes at the end and see yet more evidence of Eurostar's insane pricing... the UK is so close to mainland Europe, and yet crossing that gap in a low-emissions way is such a ridiculous financial hurdle :(
I enjoy your challenge videos very much but worry that they take too much out of you. Thanks for taking us along for the ride and please stay safe and healthy.
To link your last 2 videos I was doing work experience in Sheffield in the late 80s & they were doing an office competition to forecast the winners of the English and Scottish leagues for the upcoming season. Some people who didn't follow football were struggling a bit and the man organising it asked one woman why she'd gone for Montrose in the Scottish 2nd division and she said because she liked their music festival.
Very enjoyable! Thank you for taking us with you! I feel out of breath right now! Looking forward to your showing us around , now that we are here! :0) !
Wow , what a challenge ! I am guessing the worst part , other than stressing about train times , finding platforms was the hanging about in London . I am travelling from the Netherlands to Switserland by train almost every year. It is TOP. Nice video again, Steve. I guess you could have done this well under 15 hours but than it would have been pretty boring, with fast connections both in London and Paris, with an underground running RER line D in Paris (with which you can get a 20 minutes connection between Paris Nord and Paris Gare de Lyon). But than you also have to book it really in advance because of the prices.... Last minute bookings are so expensive nowadays. As you say in the video: it absolutely is crazy, in Britain even more so as on the continent.
You secured some decent ticket prices there Steve. I guess UK train tickets are generally OK if you book in advance. Buy on the day you get shafted. I live 40 miles from London and pay £37 off peak return to London. You paid that from Edinburgh.

Hmm, you got to do this again, but this time with shopping at Aldi in Montrose, and buying the same things at Aldi in Montreux, and compare price, taste, quality. Preferably you should buy 1 kilo of cheese, 1 kilo of ham, 1 kilo of minced beef, a collared shirt, 1 boxer shorts, 1 on pack of socks, one bread, a pack of butter and some tool they have on campaign. You can go by air both ways, anyway, thank you, is it tuesday you will be showing us Montreux? By the way, I miss the taxis in London driving on the platforms, whenever I/we was going to Bath or Penzance I/we took a taxi all the way to our coach....we were driven to our door on the train coach. However I don't remember how they checked the tickets then, because they had this system where you had to show your ticket to get on the platform. Unknown system in most other countries after the year 1910.
Another great trip, thanks Steve. I do love Switzerland and Swiss trains and their integrated public transport system plenty of fine trips with wonderful places and spectacular views to be had if you want to do just Switzerland
Well done Steve. In 2002 I did Macclesfield (Cheshire) to Geneva in a little over 14 hours by train, so appreciate the resilience required. The RER between Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon saves a lot of time, and you can avoid the queues at the ticket machine in Gare du Nord by buying them on the train (at the buffet car). If you can't get them on the train a good tip is to ignore the first ticket machines and go to the second set where the queues are much shorter. The other point for people to remember is that when using the fast intercity trains like Paris - Geneva you do need a seat reservation.
Oh I was literally on the edge hoping you'd make it...poor you no sleep or food service and all that walking made me tired . But you never cease to amaze me with your beautiful videos and comments love it from Canada 🤗
Well done Steve, the unusual occurrence of trains being on time!! Eurostar was a 24h service, scaled back now, and closure of the Kent stations. Your comment on the fares shows why the trains are not used so much in England, when I can do a round trip from Kent to Ripon for less than £60 of fuel. Keep up the entertaining videos.
I just found your channel yesterday thru a different video, and I just wanted to say, what a treasure. You’re wonderful and this channel is so entertaining. Thanks for making videos.
19:58 People abroad always believe that the Swiss railways are as punctual and on time like a Swiss watch. But those are far forgotten days. The system is overloaded, specially on the Lake Geneva north shore. Trains on that stretch are known to be old and not comfortable, often overcrowded and never run on time. I am sorry to disappoint you Steve.
Has been a bit better since the double deckers on the IR90 Brig route and most are on time but it is overloaded and it doesn’t take much to cause issues. The trains are regular enough though to be manageable
I attended a British/American school in Lausanne back in the early 70s. My parents were taking language courses. Took many trips to Montreaux and Chateau Chillon.
Thank you for this great video! I would be happy if you will travel by train to Copenhagen in the coming months. Copenhagen is my favorite city in Europe. Of course I love traveling by train. Soon I will be traveling from Stuttgart to Gothenburg (with a short stop in Hamburg). In June I will go to Budapest. From there I will travel to Bucharest on a night train. I just found your channel yesterday thru a different video, and I just wanted to say, what a treasure. You’re wonderful and this channel is so entertaining. Thanks for making videos.
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much!
Great trip Steve with some stunning scenery at the end.
Glasgow, Scotland to Glasgow, Virginia? 😂
😅😅😅 That's a great suggestion
What a great trip, Steve. Can’t wait to see the next one. Montreux looks beautiful. Well done for completing your challenge! 😊🇬🇧
I was shouting to you: take the metro! But you made it in Paris. Wow what a journey!
Many Greetings from Stuttgart
Martin
