Her halleluiah, all is fair in love, simply beautiful, the first time ever I saw your face, and tribute to Prince, purple rain, I listen to over and over, she is one of my top 10 favorites. I almost forgot that her national anthem was one of the best.
This is like Speech-Language Pathology porn. 😂 I thought I was the only one who tried to figure out articulation positioning when listening to people sing.
She is my favourite singer of all time, even though i love the greats there is just something i love about her. When i heard her sing eye is on the sparrow i fell in love. I agree she is underrated.
Sam- I am learning so much about how the vocal folds work and the differences between chest voice and head voice that sometimes the broken record makes it sink in better. Thank you for your videos and don’t ever think we’re not listening, because we are.
She’s taking us to “Church” by using those tones. Black Gospel sounds and tones to color her voice in this song! Jennifer is so naturally talented. I just love her and appreciate her ability that comes from God.
Jennifer one of the most talented singers of our generation. Sam, could you please react to Little Mix new single called “Holiday”, mixers would love to know your opinion on their voices, loveee your videos, greats from Mexico!!
She is too good! Makes my skin shiver every time she sings. I would LOVE to hear what you have to say about Christina Aguileras performance of James Browns 'it's a mans world'. She sang it as a tribute a couple of years ago (probably more years than I care to remember). But she blew my mind completely.
Thank you for actually being a good vocal coach reactor and giving good explanations; unlike the others who just see the video and don’t really give useful input.
I'd love to hear your analysis of Joss Stone - A Natural Woman from the Aretha Franklin tribute. Joss is so underrated and far less known than she should be.
Hi from Italy Sam! I really love your videos 'cause your english is so clear to understand and they are a kind of "language workout" for me. I love to sing too and your reactions and comments to these performances are very interesting! Forgive my bad english 😁
Jennifer for sure has vocalized an A6 in whistle register. She did so on a live performance of "Where You At" at a iHeartRadio gig, and did so VERY effortlessly.
Out of any performances of Jennifer I would have chosen this one too. I thought I might have given that video all of it’s views! Glad other people are showing up for her, she is sensational! Hope you’ll do a video on Shoshana Bean!
THAT ENDING!!!!! **takes off shoes and entire shoe cupboard and dashes it at the stage** 👠🥿👟👡🩰 I must say Sam I absolutely LOVE the way you break down EVERYTHING. Especially your analysis of how she said the word "it's"... little things like that that are so overlooked, you bring to our attention. As always, thanks for doing these. I was in lessons for years including three years in music school, so your videos are always super fun and interesting to me. Plus I feel like I learn something (or something clicks in a new way) every time. I dont know if I just wasn't paying enough attention when I was in school (probably) or what my issue was but the way you explain things just makes so much more sense than 70 year old classically trained profs. The changes I've been able to make based on what I've learned from your channel have reignited my love for singing and performing full on car-concerts. Thanks again, seriously.💜
I absolutely love watching you analyze and critique the voices of these artist! Your honesty shines through and your professionalism is greatly appreciated. I don't sing but have a love for music and gifted artists such as Jennifer Hudson. Thank you for your videos, hard work and dedication. Whomever is trained under your direction should consider themselves blessed. You need to be on the ever so popular show The VOICE.🎶🎤
I am so glad you feel the same way about the “thinking” that goes into a scripted “trained” sounding performance. This was the biggest problem I had with studying voice. Worrying about your face, your mouth, your throat, where is the sound coming from, make sure to project, be poised in your position. Ugh! at that point there is just no feeling left for the music.
What you said about the distance between larynx and soft palate and the possibility of changing colours without losing the line is so true and well explained! Pronunciation should never interfere with the sound. That's what I'm always pursueing myself as an operatic tenor! Well done :)
I find it really interesting to hear that you prefer a mixed belt to a full-chest belt. I have a decent belt but at a certain point I have to mix it and personally I think it sounds pretty good, but I assumed that wouldn't be acceptable to perform because people would say that's "cheating". I'd love to see some comparisons of the two styles, but I don't have an idea for reference material if anyone else has any suggestions of performers who mix vs. belt in chest voice.
No. As a JHud Stan, I hate the overhype she gets. She seems to get more opportunities then even legends like JHud have, and she tries to force herself as positions and roles that she doesn't have the chops for
She’s gotten so vocally proficient over the years. In the past she has sounded a little screechy to me at times. This performance is a good example of how well she can actually sing.
I'm very late to this video, but PLEASE react to her singing How Great Thou Art (Pentatonix's performance featuring her). There's a live and an album version. Both are insane. She keeps me up at night.
You know I need to hear the same thing in a bunch of different ways to get it 😂 I’d reckon a lot of people are the same! It’s really helpful to hear the same themes applied to multiple different artists, it makes it easier to see the ‘forest’ rather than just amazing, unattainably skilled ‘trees’ 😄
It might just be me but I love sam’s mannerisms. Lol. Like I figure a regular convo would involve just the level of sarcasm and wittiness I would need. Lol.
Awesome vid Sam! I’d love to see you react to some Whitney videos! There’s a performance of her singing “I’m changing” in 1986, the video where it’s just the picture of her throughout. I think you will be blown away and I love when you react to these old school powerhouse vocalists! Stay safe :)
She definitely is one of the best vocalists of all time and It makes me so sad that she doesn't get more recognition :( Also, I'm saying it, Sam sounds like John Legend when he sings.😊😂
Could not agree more about the mouth/jaw position when reaching the passagio. When I first began vocal training at 8 years old this was one of the first things I noticed and learned; that the jaw needs to be dropped along with the tongue to maintain the sound you want as you reach your first bridge. More space for the sound, it always felt like to me. It became more clear to me a few years later, maybe around age 12 or 13, then very natural in my teenage years when I was singing and training regularly. By my 20s it was second nature to do this and I hadn't even realized that it was something I learned to do. Now at (almost) 41 I barely think about what I'm trying to accomplish when I sing. I can just trust myself to make it work. HOWEVER...I've added a great many tools to my arsenal just from watching this channel. I've said it a hundred times before and I'll say it a hundred times more. Sam, you are offering the world not only your beautiful appreciation for music but also your invaluable knowledge and skills at the same time. We really should be paying you for these videos that you SO generously offer us for free. And we adore you for it ❤
God-gifted JHud took us to church, and she's OK with that; no shame about her roots or pretension about her popularity whatsoever. Love, love, love JHud, and relate down to her Chicago southside roots. We're very loyal, vested, and very proud of her.
Your videos are so helpful for me, since the beginning of the year I'm also learning to sing from a voice teacher. With every lesson I get I can understand more of what you are saying 😅. It's awsome to learn how my voice works, the jaws are always a topic :D
Thank you so very much Sam for enlightening me with your explanations 🙌🙌🙌❣️Love Jennifer‘s voice 🎵🎶🎼❤️Trying to grow my voice in this direction - although I‘m a lower mezzo voice type ...

She definitely is one of the best vocalists of all time and It makes me so sad that she doesn't get more recognition :(
Also, I'm saying it, Sam sounds like John Legend when he sings.😊😂
I rewinded 2:10 multiple times and it gave me the chills each and everytime
I LOVE YOU SAM THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO QUEEN JHUD
And we adore you for it ❤
Sam - Please do more JHUD from time-to-time, I like watching your face, it's exactly how I feel listening to her
God-gifted JHud took us to church, and she's OK with that; no shame about her roots or pretension about her popularity whatsoever.
Love, love, love JHud, and relate down to her Chicago southside roots. We're very loyal, vested, and very proud of her.
YESS WAS WAITING FOR THIS FOR SOOO LONG!!!
Jennifer's singing always makes me feel emotional.
Thank you so much for this i was wondering why there isn’t more reaction videos of her performance
Totally not nonsense and so far I don't remember you talking about this exact thing so saying the same thing over and over is effective. I finally heard it!
She was an American Idol finalist earlier in her career- and has been in movies as well
