Jazmine is 100% a jazz vocalist. The rock sound in her voice is rooted in jazz, the enunciation is rooted in jazz, the way she runs is rooted in jazz. Her old stuff (mostly her EPs and indie releases) are pure jazz.

I love the way that you talk about Jazmine’s stylistic ‘choices’ .. a lot of ppl get harped up on technical prowess, but can’t discern ‘vocal musicianship’ or ‘interpretive wit’ ..the way singers use different vowel modulations,
vocal fry, distortion, air, larynx positioning to manipulate the color and texture of the pitch to give character to a certain note/phrase. I call it having an ‘ear’.. a coach may warn against dropping the larynx when stretching down into the lower chest, but as a stylistic choice some do this to create extra space that add this brooding, darkness to those notes that give it depth.. intent and moderating matters

I'm glad he eventually mentioned the jazz influences. Historically, the African & African-American voice and tone was untrained; we just sang, lol. Most of the stylistic choices, especially in Jazz, came from imitating instruments, which explains riffs/runs/rasp/scatting. Even that low growl, the use of the jaw and the use of the throat come from "just sanging", lol. Of course, Jazmine is intentional.

Yess.. learning to control the speed and oscillation of your vibrato and its ‘spiral’ can help navigate through those trickier passages that requires acute and quick dexterity while moving through a lot of notes within a vocal line. That’s why most of the really agile vocalists have such a peculiar pulse to their vibrato.. ‘Brandy, beyonce, Kim Burrell, Jazmine, Whitney’ ..a good vibrato contributes to articulation and that ‘rolling’ effect that melismatic users have.

Jasmine Sullivan is a certified natural born SINGER. She doesn't need to be evaluated. She has proven herself many times before. Especially, when she sung on the tribute to Aretha Franklin.

I call her incredible low note execution “open booty notes”
... yes i do.... because she always opens her vowels at the end to make them sound like “ooo-uhh”
And it just gives it this deep, dirty, clear sounding low note that reverberates through the chest

From her debut "Lion, tigers & bears" very unique with a classical feel. Also "Lost One", I prefer the live version, set up is just like from this video.

Jazmine has a natural low and raspy tone of voice. Similar to R&B singer Brandy (Ray J's sister). That's where the beauty of it comes in and the fact they can still go up and hit those higher notes is amazing. I love her and her voice. Thanks for letting her shine on your channel.
