Hey guys!!! :D I was waiting for the video so much! It's funny seeing you try the most basic treats of my childhood as specialties. Good to see you enjoying our chocolate. Sending you hugs, and keep up the work, the vlogs look awesome
Hey! :D I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Haha yes I miss eating those túró rudi chocolates! When we come back to Budapest will definitely have to come see you. :D
Nice video. You should have tried the kürtőskalács (chimney cake), krémes (which is similar to Mille-Feuille), and also mákos guba vaníliasodóval (poppy seed bread & butter pudding) which is a very local and traditional dessert. btw, I've never heard about the last piece in the video (the gummy bear stuff), it is not traditional local sweets.
mákos guba vaníliasodóval sounds delicious! I want to try it when my wife and I come back to to Budapest. Yeah the gummy bear thing we were not sure either if it was local but we tried it out of curiosity and it tasted so bad 😂
I really liked this video because we really eat these sweets and I have been eating them since I was born. Esterházy Torte and Somlói Galuska are my absolute Favourites. I had Cocoa snails (kakaós csiga) for breakfast many times at school, Túró Rudi is always in the fridge at Hungarians families. Hmm and in Ruszwurm Confectionery the cream cake is phenomenal. Thanks a lot.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was hard trying to find what desserts to put in the video. If you any suggestions for what else would be a Hungarian sweet to try, I would love to know! Thanks for watching 😊
Gesztenye püré is my go to dessert, I can't have enough of it :D I actually don't know many people who likes winter cones. Not sure why they're still selling them :D
Gesztenye püré was hard to finish but it was still interesting to try haha :D It's funny I was living in Budapest for a month and became friendly with the owner of our local grocery store. He suggested to try the winter cone because he loves it so much but he did have this funny smile on his face when we bought it. Maybe he was playing a joke on me! 😂😂
@@LetsTravel-MF Gesztenye püré is defenietly a crowd divider, some love it, some hate it. Winter cone is something from the socialis era that the older generation eat as a nostalgia, but yeah, it is pretty bad.
Hi - As soon as I came across your video, I wanted to see what you tried and how you felt about the Hungarian pastries. I`ve had some wonderful portions of the Gesztenyi Puree, the chestnut dessert you first tried. In the ones I had, they mix the chestnut with rum and sweeten it slightly. I finished them easily and wanted more, but it is a heavy, dense dessert. I`m also so glad you visited both Ruszwurm (which has fabulous Gesztenyi Puree and Somloi Galuska) and Butter Bros. Both are favorites and my go-to spots. And yes, I agree wholeheartedly about the Kakao Csiga (the cocoa snail pastries there), wow! And if you return, you might want to go to Cafe Frei, a chain of real specialty Hungarian coffeehouses which was founded by a Hungarian travel journalist who kept finding remarkable coffee recipes and beans along his journeys, so he brings some unique coffees to his menu.
Thanks for the suggestions! I had no idea about Cafe Frei! Doing research online can only get you so far haha. Butter bros Kakao Csiga was our favourite thing to have with a coffee first thing in the morning :) Can’t wait to head back to Budapest!
Gesztenye püré means puréed chestnut, its very popular, but like you, I never liked it. Even when I was a small child I found it too heavy. Nothing beats a good Somlói Galuska! Regards from Budapest, hope you had a good time!
how can one not love gesztenyepüré? My favourite alongside gesztenye szív.. BTW that is what you should have tried That chestnut puree filled into a choco cover shaped into a small heart. Yummyyy
Awesome video and so many greats desserts. That chestnut spaghetti dessert though haha, looks really interesting and unique. That teddy bear café was lil bit spooky to me but since the dessert got 2 thumbs up, i will put it on the list of must try in Budapest👍👍
@@LetsTravel-MF when ask for one, make sure to have as much whipped cream as the puree's volume on the serving. Hi guys, we discovered your channel yesterday and we've been watching your videos in Budapest. We love that city! We really enjoy the fact you tried and showed different places and food that are not usually shown.. Stay Fluffy!! - Eric & Christian
@@LetsTravel-MF thanks for responding to our comment. We saw that you were there for a month. We've been there 6 times in the past ten years. For more we go back, stay longer and say that we are going to do this or that, in the end we still haven't done everything we want..lol.
It was really good! It was a walnut roll. It was a great balance of not to chewy but having a good crunch to it. I wish I went earlier though like first thing in morning cause by the time I got their most of their baked goods were nearly gone.
I love chestnut puree. I don't know what it is about it - I had American friends also puzzled by it. Don't know why. Then again, I had Americans reject crepes, so there's that. Unbelievable.
I know what you mean like I love vegemite haha I give my foreigner friends a vegemite sandwich and they hate it 😂😂 but I grew up with it so I’m just use to the taste and still enjoy it.
@@LetsTravel-MF I'm happy tha you liked Túró Rudi, none of my foreign friends did! 😂 Also the Ruszwurm Cukrászda was founded in 1827, lived through two revolutions and two worldwars and yeah, their krémes is the most amazing thing. Next time you visit, I recommend trying Rákóczi túrós and zserbó!
@@kataszamel4525 There is so much history behind Ruszwurm Cukrászda it’s really amazing that tourist like me can try a piece of Hungarian history (pun intended😅) and thanks for the recommendation! There are so many desserts I missed!
The last thing I suppose wasn't gummy candy, but candied fruit, more specifically candied citrus rinds. The Germans call it Zitronat, and it's usually an ingredient in baking sweet bread. The winter ice cream surprised me, it's a legacy from Communist times, and depending on manufacturing company, it can be quite crappy. Younger people don't even like it, many older people neither. Supposedly the elite version in pattisseries is made with ganache cream and dark chocolate, but the grocery store stuff is made with plain buttercream and compound chocolate.
Cheers for the info! I was waiting for someone to tell me what that last chocolate was! It explains the taste that I experienced. It was extremely bitter!
