Wish it had a bigger touchpad since both the palm rest and touchpad are just too small for your typical scrolling. My Yoga C940 14 has a bigger touchpad than this lol. You can fix the performance loss btw with with Throttlestop disabling and locking turbo boost to 45w watt TDP. Also, have you tried HDR? HDR is bugged on like almost more than half of Spectre 15 2020's out there. You'll see it lag like a beast there when other laptops with the same iGPU don't suffer from this

My HP x360 15.6" Spector (i7-10510u, 16 ram, 512 ssd, NVIDIA GeForce MX330 graphics) gets 14-15 hrs of continuous UA-cam viewing using 1080p resolution; 50% brightness; Wifi, Bluetooth, and battery saver all on. Would you consider going over the drawing capabilities when reviewing similar devices in the future? As a digital artist, a 2-1 laptop won’t be worth it if the pen function isn’t up to snuff. Even if you’re not into illustrating yourself, a simple test of pen sensitivity and accuracy would be very helpful.

Reason why he only got 3-5 hours battery is because his HP Spectre x360 has nvidia graphics card which is a dedicated one. You will never get 15-19 hours battery with a dedicated graphics card.

    • @melomaniakjm

@@melomaniakjm not really, laptops with discrete gpu will never get 10 hours even if it uses intel HD. It will only last 3-5 hours max. Since nvidia gpu is consuming power even if laptop uses intel HD as main gpu. The nvidia is stil powered with electricity from battery. So please don't come here and say you can get 10 hours with a laptop having both intel HD and nvidia since that is not true.

I purchased the Spectre x360 with 4k UHD a couple of months ago as a replacement for my primary laptop. I upgraded from an 8 year old ACER so I think almost anything would have been an improvement. So far as the battery life is concerned, I can get out about 5 hours with normal usage. If I'm doing something more intense such as photo editing, the life drops considerably, but in any case, no where near the 17 hours HP advertises. I also think the webcam is horrible, especially in low light situations. I wound up buying an external cam. So far, however, I am satisfied with my purchase and with it's performance, although if I had to do it over, I would have gone with the Dell XPS-15. But so far it has handled everything I have thrown at it.

I purchased this new HP Spectre x360 15 last month, but I specifically chose the model with the IPS screen and U-processors over the higher-end configuration Matt reviewed here. And honoustly, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase! The processor doesn't throttle, because of it's lower TDP the heat management is waaay better (the fans are almost always off) and the IPS screen is also more efficient than a power hungry OLED screen. I find the battery life to be amazing: I streamed 3 hours of Netflix with the brightness set at 50% last night, and it only consumed 18% of battery life. So if you're not doing very intensive tasks, I truly recommend this laptop with the "lower" configuration :-)

The tiger lake has an intel evocore certification regarding battery life and boot up etc. The tiger lake is also 16:10 which means more room for keyboard/trackpad and has integrated XE graphics which will ensure longer battery life than what Matt got with his. After all with a 70Wh battery I might also be expecting some good duration for the battery. It might be worth a further review.

i have this laptop, bought it for design work, and tobe honest, it handles photoshop and illustrator(especially) well, i optedd for mx250 geforce (to save money) since both photoshop nad illutrator are primarily CPU and memory intensive apps. another reason is so i can pair it with a eGPU (which I have done)... and it works great. With just 2 cables (power and tb3) i boosted the power of this little laptop. There are a few things to work out, since i wanna game on it too, but other than that, I am happy. My gripes are, there is no place to hold the pen (not that big of a deal) and it seems the cooling takes way too long to cool it down other than that pretty happy. Also looks baller in any setting :D

Since I use my laptops plugged in like 98% of the time, and only use them for very short periods unplugged, I don't have a problem with a short battery life. For me, a laptop battery's main purpose is to keep the machine from immediately shutting down if the cord gets unplugged causing me to lose work. Three hours works for that. I also don't mind the performance being a little lower than other laptops because I was able to get this particular laptop at a massive discount. But what is the biggest concern for me is some people reporting online that it might not work at all with some VR headsets. When I use VR, I don't need my settings maxed out: I just need something that's good enough at VR to be playable. Would this work for that purpose?

Well, I don't know what or how you tested, but my results are a bit, a way bit better than you are complaining about. Heat? No problem, battery life, my daughter worked on it with graphics ( the latest Paintshop Pro version), with the music on and stuff kids do while multitasking, for 6 hours and the battery has approx. 40% left. The vents are doing steady and no alarming noise or things that could be annoying where noticed. Now, what Spectre I tested: Hp Spectre x360 convertible 15-eb0100nd. That has the 10th generation Intel I-7 , 1 GB soliddrive, 16 Gb Ram, NVidia Geforce MX-330 2 GB etc.
I think the best 2 in1 available on the market yet. Now, I can't compare it with my Envy, that one is tagged about $1100 higher in price.. and isn't a 2 in 1 either..

I have this exact model of this laptop. I went with the OLED screen for better colour accurate as I am a photographer. You do make a trade off with this screen as I read several reviews where people were saying that the battery life with OLED screen was worse than with LED. I use this as a student as well and for gaming. I love my spectre and wanted the 2 in 1 for tablet mode for taking notes and reading. I haven't honestly used it a lot yet and might get a small, cheap tablet just for reading because with the 15" screen, it's a bit awkward to use. That being said, I adore the screen. The computer is really fast and never unresponsive. The battery life is only thing I would change. You can change screen and battery settings to make it last longer though. It will be interesting to see how it fares when I am back in a university setting from class to class. Luckily, it doesn't take long to charge so that's a plus when dealing with a battery that dies quick.

I immediately wanted to send it back but it was a Christmas present that I purchased 2 months in advance. After8 months of use, even after trying to repaste it, the fans sound like a jet engine. I bought a 13 inch about 2 months and I wish I had seen this review before. The one that I bought sucks! And I am not using it for video editing or anything like that. I wanted it for school. Just to do my papers and my classes online. About the third day that I started using it, I had to restart it and it took more than three hours to restart. It was also not opening apps like Cortana and it took forever to open windows. The search bar was not working and basically it was too slow. I thought it was my wifi connection but it wasn't. At the moment HP has it and they are reparing it. I had such a bad experience with their sales department and with the product. I needed something reliable and it let me down in the middle of my semester. I do not recommend this product to anybody!

After researching ALLL of so many laptops, I learned a lot about ram, processing speed, resolution, etc. I have 4 Dells one is desk top, an Acer, 3 HP's. And a MacBook air. None work, but HP 's, which the tops have broken from the hinges,, so I do like that the Spectra has a slight wedge like space that allows easy lifting of the screen.. The screen is crystal clear with the Oled, and I Love love the backlight, its nice and bright not over powering. The case and stylus adds added pleasure for me, as I have a little time to purchase a case. So, I suggest, get out and see, feel, for yourselves, because everyone has different interests and nit picks, that may not be your concern, such as, the stickers on the laptop...bahahahaaaa, I paid that absolutely no attention. But that's me,, shoulders hunch. I needed a speed, ram, durability, clear screen with glare protection as I wear eyeglasses, backlight as I teach and learn, using my laptop so I liked the cutesy color which will cause me to use more frequently. I did like the HP 15 Envy, it is a great choice as well, however I think the Spectra had the i7 processor and not the Envy, with it, still not bad but not Cute, oh, and I like that the Spectra is a 2 in 1, also has the camera slide, not the right terminology, but hey, I suggest you go to a good store with a knowledgeable sales representative, and tell them what YOU WANT,...worked for me, or there is return, repurchase. I within my home, HP's or the MacBook air haven't let me down. MacBook is cool as fan on any day!, just not mine, and It doesn't have a ten key pad, and I don't favor the scroll on it, or the resolution, those are my nit picks about it,, again, that's me..Happy shopping!....GREAT REVIEW, WATCH! I'll have to see about this battery life, though I did follow the directions that says to plug it in, before turning it on, and I let it stay charging. You know, when you get new electronics, you supposed to let them fully charge, to "guarantee " quality battery life. I don't know, ill update us, I'm curious as well. Oh, I did see a review on Amazon, where one was delivered damaged screen. This made me leary, however, return, is on my side, so ill keep that thought in mind, about the flicker, but I'm getting ready to enjoy it,...until next time....

watching you from my new hp spectre 15 exactly like yours but i noticed after you flip it that your vent holes are bigger and you have 3 vents in the back that mine does not have. do you think i got a fake hp? and glad you you said it takes 3 hrs from 100 because mine is the same. it didnt make it for the 16 hrs they promised.

Hold on your preorder and wait for 11th gen CPU. There’ll be plenty to choose around October and November

I got my xps 13 11th gen arriving around oct 20.
If it boils my balls while on my lap , it's getting returned.
I had the spectre 13 OLED , gorgeous screen , but it runs way too hot
I was able to get it to cool down a little but I was still within return window
I just want a "LAP" top that doesn't burn my "LAP" or cook my balls.
I could get a cooling pad , but WHY buy a thin and lite and get a cooling pad? Might as well get a beefy 15 inch thick boy with proper cooling.
The new XPS allegedly had some cooling improvements. I'll find out soon enough.

Advertised 17 hours of battery life but in reality it gives 3 hours and 22 mins. That's next level puffery

I've been able to get 5-6 hours of battery life max just on regular setting. But yeah the 17 hour is a bunch of BS lol

Any chance you might be reviewing the latest 14" 11th gen with i7 Evo (1165G7)?

Matt i want to buy a gaming laptop with a good gpu like 1070,1080 or even rtx 2060 / gtx 1660, but over here gaming laptops are way to expensive, i have a $900 laptop right now with a gtx 1060 and i5 8300h , 8gb ram, 512gb storage and can run any game i want.. but its in a bad shape right now not working, etc etc.. i want to buy another laptop but its too expensive as i said, but computers are way too big for me, im ALWAYS travelling and need something i can put in my big suitcase.. any ideas? small cases that can give me alot of power for cheap? if i had a PC with the same specs as my laptop it would be half the price..
