I remember a video when he said “you can’t go wrong with a blue suit.” Both him and Pat Riley wore the best suits.

Ppl forget Chuck was at one point a part of Billy Cunninghams staff in Philadelphia and the sixers were a great defensive team in the early 80s. They gave the Celtics fits from 1980 to 83. So it makes sense he would have then created one of the most fearsome defenses ever in the bad boys. (Go back and watch the 1980 NBA final and you see both Daley and Pat Riley were assistant coaches in that series)

The character of Chuck Daly being a more of a personnel coach rather than just a 'coach' is what made him the best suited coach for that dream team in 1992. He listened to his players as much as cooperating with them in certain ways. Top 5 coaches of all time IMO

Piston players had to win a championship to be allowed to touch Lord Daly's impeccable hair.

How does Chuck escape the reputation of the Bad boys. Funny. He was the one who design jordan rule

In the words of Charles Barkly “He coached the bad boys and if you coach those assholes you can coach anybody.”

Never in the last 40 years one coach has turned a group so much lack of talent into champs (lets be honest great isiah, good joe and rest of average players). True master

Laimbeer was unconventional but damn good! They had no lack of talent. Rodman was HANDS DOWN THE BEST DEFENDER EVER. I'm old enough. I watched him. GREAT ROLE PLAYERS. Mark Aguirrre, James Edwards, the Microwave, and Long Tall Salley. They were famous for winning close games. Back then sometimes defense actually WON CHAMPIONSHIPS. That era is gone. Offense wins championships now...

People counted Daly's time with the Cavs as a failure? Lol They were owned at that time by the guy who traded all the draft picks away. Train wreck ownership and franchise.

And facing all this robust hard dudes in training every day. That's where this shy sensitive young folk become Dennis Rodman... Salley, Mahorn, Laimbeer (the most hated player of the league, beloved by the Pistons Fans)...
Once Rodman led the league with 18.2 rebounds a game. The 2nd had only 13.8 rb/g.

I mean... I still start laughing out loudly when I remember being told for the first time how Isiah Thomas - that diva - broke his hand during scrimmages.
The story goes that Isiah Thomas had been fouled by Bill Laimbeer. When Laimbeer turned and slowly walked away Thomas got mad at him and hit Laimbeer with his fist on the back of his head.
That's how Isiah Thomas broke his hand.
