FINALLY! The Squier Sonic Mustang HH guitar review & demo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лис 2024
- This is the Squier Sonic Mustang HH in California Blue. It's a $200 guitar. Sometimes it's on sale for $180. Sometimes it's on sale for $160. Sometimes you can find one used for $100. Sometimes you have to choose.
I actually got this guitar for free from my old job. They had a dumb rewards program as an incentive for a job well done because paying better was out of the question. Anyway, you could spend those rewards points on various junk, including a couple different guitars. But free is a misnomer because the value of the guitar was considered income on my paycheck so I paid taxes on it. ANYWAY ...
Not only am I giving away this very Squier Sonic Mustang HH to one lucky winner (edit: I gave it away on this livestream ua-cam.com/users/li..., but I'm also finally answering the all important question: "Karol, do you prefer the single coil Sonic Mustang or the humbucker Sonic Mustang?" Literally every single person who ever lived has asked me this. I don't know why it's so important, but as a man of the people I give you what you want.

Just converted a Classic Vibe Jaguar to Cobain specs and the thing RIPS! This Mustang would be a great addition to the collection for my Nirvana tribute band!
@@sirmattyboy oh heck yeah! Nirvana's the best 🤘 I recently reviewed a Jag-Stang on the channel
Not gonna lie I got my affinity Squier tele for 200 back in 2019 and at first I was planning to change the pick ups but it’s still kicking it and never had an issue! I am a firm believer in the player makes the instrument !
Affinitys are sweet! I've got an Affinity Strat HSS review on the channel and still own that guitar.
@austinzusi9021 I totally agree. No matter what guitar I play, I still sound like me.
Love your teleprompter!
Your playing always makes these guitars sound great.
Thank you!
Thank you for all the work you put into reviews and helping us to be better informed on gear!
you're welcome 🤘
My favorite equipment this year? Bought a 79 dollar Fojill Tele on Amazon, drilled it for a string through, swapped out the neck for a cheap 24.75 inch tele neck from Amazon, put locking tuners and compensated saddles on it. So, now it's a relatively short scale tele and it sounds good. Have a brachial plexus injury, so really love short scale guitars like this Sonic Mustang. Whoever wins it should have fun playing it. 😊😊
Those are some interesting mods! 🤘
You are SOOOOoooo cool, no sales hype or BS. I LOVE the fact that you're not a gear snob. You get it, good enough is good enough, but you understand personal preferences. I wish Fender understood that. I prefer the California Blue color guitar, but it would be even more attractive with a Maple fretboard. If I win this guitar, I'll have to buy a red one, so I switch out the necks. Then I'll sell the red one with the dark fretboard so I'll be able to upgrade the pickups.
Wish me luck!!!!!
I was actually looking into getting one of these sonic series mustangs recently and saw your video on the single coil version and now you’re giving one away! Very kind of you. My favorite gear bought this year was a squier standard telecaster, it’s the first fender guitar I’ve personally owned and I love it to death now, part of why I’ve been looking into getting a mustang lately.
My favorite piece of equipment so far this year would either be my 66 fender showman head or 1 of two sg standards.
I just purchased this year my first actual electric with my own money. A Squier Affinity Strat from 2013. Been looking at Sonic Mustangs before that, I kinda fell in love with Mustangs with its uniqueness, the short scale and the hard tail is very comfortable for me, but kinda wasn't able to get it. Mustangs are really nice! I've been looking at your reviews of it a lot. Thank you for a really well done video. ^_^
My favorite guitar I have is my Rogue ST-3. We got a good deal on it. I put alot of work into it. So, it's my lil baby.
Always feels good when you put some sweat equity into your gear 🤘
Squires are super reliable, my modded squire Stratocaster barely ever goes out of tune when I play, and it sounds great.
@@trollerheaven their newer ones seem to have better quality control than in the fairly recent past as well
My favorite piece of gear is a 90’s Peavey Predator that I found in the trash one night walking home from work. Slowly restored it. It’s nothing crazy, but it has a story and was a good find.
That's a really cool find!
I enjoy watching your videos!👍
Karol, I appreciate your videos! I feel that your content is always honest and that you care about your subscribers, and the choices that they make if/when they buy something that you have reviewed. My favorite piece of gear is my Boss GT-1 guitar effects processor/looper.
Thank you! Cannot go wrong with a Boss 🤘
I picked up a PRS MT15 a few months ago and absolutely love it. The two channels really make it a very versatile amp.
Nice! 🤘
This video is really cool, and man, that Mustang really looks great 😭 that slick, thin body is my thing. I've been an avid Nirvana listener when I was younger when I was in 8th grade (and now I'm in college, still playing all the music I loved)
Earlier this year I bought a piece of gear that I don't regret and it's the Marshall Valvestate 2000, I fell in love how it sounded when I plug in, and up to this day I use it as a go-to for practicing or finding my correct tone. And that really saturated tone (whether I'm playing clean or overdriven) from the tube amp is a chef's kiss for me.
Loved the video, really gave an intricate and interesting explanation on what this guitar is.
thank you, good luck 🤘
Is that single coil already routed to install humbukers on it? Whats under the hood? Asking just in case the red one is not available with hums. I like that color.
I don't believe it is routed for humbuckers, but I don't remember. But yeah, stock the Dakota Red only comes with single coils
Thanks for the great videos! I appreciate the effort that you put into them! My favorite piece of gear that I purchased this year is my Valeton GP-100 multi effects pedal. It has enabled me to "get out of a rut" with regard to my sound.
My favorite piece of gear is my Epiphone 1959. I remove the pickup covers and glipped the magnet in the neck and swapped the knobs to make it a little more Greeney.
Thorough and helpful review on this guitar. Thanks for sharing!
Favorite Piece of gear was the Tease SBH-HD. I have tough times finding Teles I bond with. They are killer guitars, have strats and super strats to.
Love these videos, Karol. thanks for doing REAL reviews, gonna be sorry to see you go.
My favorite piece of gear is probably my flamma fx 10 headphone amp. It has helped me write a lot of riffs, and the drum machine is a great addition.
I'll have to check that out! I wouldn't mind having an external drum machine again
Realizing my Squier Affinity Telecaster cost more than that, yet arrived with rough fret ends! Does have a belly curve though, and a lovely vintage burst finish. For a while I thought I may have made a mistake, but as I learn it has really grown on me.
Yeah, that will happen unfortunately. I like the Affinitys but ... Debut Series is good enough for a first guitar and then Classic Vibes are *great* if you want to save for a better guitar. The middle ground of the Affinity is a weird spot to be in for Squier now.
My favorite gear is the line 6 helix... I can use anything with it, and it sounds amazing!
My favorite piece of gear so far this year I’ve bought is probably my Fender cd 60s acoustic, my very first guitar. I have an electric silvertone that I’m slowly restoring and upgrading so I can experience electric guitar as well while I’m learning. Great videos, really appreciate your work.
I've had a silvertone in my cart for probably a year ... they look so cool 🤘
The only gear I have right now is a blackstar little tiny baby amp. I just sold my only guitar for rent money and have been desperately fawning over these as a replacement when I become slightly more rich than I am now (who knows when that’ll be). It would be soooooooo very cool if I could win this, but I’ve never been lucky before, so fingers crossed that changes now!!!
Really enjoyed how thorough these reviews are. They’ve solidified my desire to own one myself either way!
My favorite piece of gear is my Ibanez TS-808HW. The cost was ridiculous but I definitely love the tones I get out of it.
1st Good luck to everyone - this year I purchased a NU-X MG30 and I've owned a number of processors over the years and this one is fantastic.. thanks for the chance to win! 🇺🇸greatest country🇺🇸 keep rocking dude!
Checking out their website right now, the mg-30 looks cool 🤘
My favorite piece of gear that I bought this year is a Donner QST-1. It's one of the best strat style guitars I've ever played. Just found out about your channel, really enjoy your content. Wishing you and your channel great success!
The Mackie 1202vlz pro is my favorite gear of the year. Paired with some powered monitors I need no amp and can mix any stuff together.
The blue one with white pickguard and single coils would be the one, with the dark fretboard. Just for the looks.
Favorite piece of gear you ask?
Boss Sy-1 for sure. Golden ticket for writing.
best piece(s) of gear I got was a random group of tools from Amazon that I use for set ups. A little mallet, file, painters tape and some super fine steel wool levels a lot of gear up.
nice! there are definitely some good cheap tools on Amazon
I recently started back to playing electric guitar by getting a stratocaster affinity pack on Facebook market and I love the whole package, the frontman 10 distortion button is my favorite feature!!
@@skatin_T sweet! 🤘
The MS450 Mitchell is my favorite. I sold my Gibson and don’t miss it a bit. I was glad to see your positive review.
oh heck yeah I love the MS450 🤘
My favorite gear this year is a used PRS SE with a pair of P90 pickups. Second favorite was an upgrade loaded pickguard from Guitar Fetish that I dropped into a strat style kit I'd built a while back.
Sweet! I still haven't purchased anything from GuitarFetish, but I've been thinking about doing some mods to the Debut Strat so maybe it's time
My next project is to mod a strat style guitar with a set of PTB tone controls like G&L uses. I've only been playing for a bit over a year, but have tinkered with electronics for over fifty years, so I've been enjoying that side of thing in addition to learning to play.
Favorite piece of gear this year: somebody on craigslist was getting rid of a PRS SE hollowbody with Piezo for an absurd price, and it was a stretch, but I had to get it. It's very nice. It doesn't scratch every itch and I need beater guitars, but it's very versatile and fun.
I love to hear about Craigslist & Marketplace finds! I never seem to come across the good ones, but I'm glad they're out there
@@ArtOfShredYT Yeah, I'm in a large city so there's an active enough CL scene. I've even managed to find a couple pieces of gear in walking distance.
Thank you for the contest! My favorites are the md200 I got last week for 60$ on ebay and my esp ltd te
That's a great deal, nice find! 🤘
I'm 68 and decided to learn the guitar. I have a Zager DAD80CEOM acoustic guitar, as well as 30 low priced electric guitars. Plan to modify.
30 electric guitars?! Whoa haha 🤘
I am really liking my Epiphone SG standard, and it is my favorite purchase this year.
A classic! 🤘The SG Standard can't be beat
I’m thinking about getting myself the humbucker version and dropping in a seymour Duncan JB in the bridge I have the pickup already
Karol, besides the amazing Mitchell MS450 that your videos helped me to get. This year I got the Spark 40 amp and a cry baby wah pedal, amazing combo to practice and jam, I love to play drowning pool’s songs because they have a lot of wah wah pedal effect on them🎸🎸🤘🏻
Heck yeah! Great combo of gear 🤘
My favorite purchased gear is the Spark 40, based on Karol's excellent review.
heck yeah! such a fun amp
Got into this channel about 2 months ago! My favorite piece of gear I bought was my Squier Strat that I'm currently trying to mod.
Nice, good luck 🤘
I haven't bought any gear for quite a while but my last purchase was a Katana Mark II 50 and it is probably my favorite piece of gear to date. Maybe, someday, I'll be able to get a tube amp!!!
Nice amp! Unless you're recording or playing live I personally think tube amps are pointless. If you're happy with what you have that's all that matters.
Karol, your info helped me get a discounted Mitchell MS450!!
Nice! Still too bad they discontinued it :/
Would a tortoise shell pickguard look good on this one? or that blue wouldn't match it? Also, does that 24 scale neck stands lowering onlt the 6th string to B? to play soundgarden like songs (rusty cage)
It might be difficult to take it to B without cutting the nut slots wider for the fatter strings. The strings might also be floppier than normal, but of course it's all possible.
Don't know if tortoise shell would look good to you. All personal preference.
My favorite piece of gear I’ve gotten this year is definitely my ampero stomp 🔥
I'm taking a look at their website right now, looks like fun 🤘
I have a Surf Green version so one this could be a cool modding version! I really want a P90 guitar so thats probably what I would do.
My favorite piece of gear I just got recently was the behringer super fuzz pedal!
that's a good one! I have it, too
Good luck to me and the Jim dandy parlor guitar I picked up in the spring that fits in perfectly beside my bed and won’t wake the neighbors.
Sweet! Good to be mindful of the neighbors 🤘
Hey Karol, thanks for the great content! Your mitchell videos sold me on getting an MS400 which is one of my all time favorites in my collection.
@@programmableorangebox7579 sweet! You're the 4th or 5th person to mention the MS450 (I'm assuming that's the one you're referring to). Happy to help! 🤘
@@ArtOfShredYT I was originally looking at getting the MS450 but I found a great deal on an MS400 which is the predecessor. It has pretty much the same specs but made in China instead of Vietnam. Great guitar for the price!
@@programmableorangebox7579 oh! I gotcha, thanks for clarifying
Bought a Fender Player Plus Meteora® HH last year but had to sell it because I lost my job. Thanks for the giveaway and your channel!!
Damn, sorry about the job loss. It's rough out there! Good luck!
Wow, that is so cool ! Love your reviews, count me in for this awesome giveaway ! Cheers
Thanks for setting up the give away! Favorite gear that I'm looking forward to getting is the Spark 40. Slowly but surely lol
Oh nice! I love the Spark 40, but the Spark 2 just started pre-orders and I'm itching to get my hands one one. 🤘
got a spark go last month and I'm loving the portability
I'm a big fan of the Spark GO 🤘
The SG Junior was definitely my favorite purchase!
Wait, which one? Yungblood?
@@ArtOfShredYT Boffum
Stumbled on your channel while searching for reviews of this guitar.
Great video! Looking forward to seeing who the winners are :)
good luck!
Great video Karol! Thank you for setting up a cool giveaway! Thats a sweet mustang and neat color too!
Trey
Thank you!
Just got an Expressive E Osmose - remains to be seen if it’s a keeper for me 🎹 🙂
Dude, I just found your channel a couple of weeks ago. I actually found it because of your Facebook Marketplace post. I immediately subscribed. I’m cheering for you, I really hope you find renewed passion for the channel. If not, I’m cheering you on for whatever you do find to be your next move! My favorite equipment is my Ibanez Gio Mikro that I bought off of Facebook marketplace for $25. New strings, some adjustments and fret leveling was required, but now it rocks!
Happy to hear the Marketplace posts are working 🤘 That's a wild deal you found for the Mikro. I seem to never find good deals on Marketplace.
i bought a used 2007 ibanez rg250 galaxy black its the lowest action guitar i own, also the dimarizo pick ups have such a good attack sound.
Nice! Those are good guitars
Very cool guitar! They did it again.
Favorite piece of gear purchased this year has got to be the Donner Triple Threat! Inspired a little budget board :)
That pedal seems to be getting a lot of love lately!
I just found your channel a few days back I really enjoy watching your videos
thanks!
My favorite piece of gear is my Squier 40th Anniversary strat
that's a good one :)
@@ArtOfShredYT it feels and sounds better than it should for what I paid it was on sale. I got the seafoam green version
Good luck to everyone, but especially me :) I just moved at the beginning of the month and had to downsize (I sold my seafoam green SX Liquid and a sparkly green tele from Leo Jaymz), so there's some room on the guitar rack. Maybe for a blue Squier? Hmmm! Cheers :)
These look super fun!
My favorite piece of gear that I bought this year was a Harley Benton HB-35 Plus (an amazing 335 copy). I also bought a Melody Maker from you a couple of months ago. I'm now avoiding Facebook marketplace to save money.
Avoiding Marketplace is a good idea 🤣
favorite piece of gear bought this year: vintage suzuki omnichord
oh sweet, something different 🤘
My favorite gear - squire telecaster classic vibe 50s😁
Heck yeah! I love mine 🤘
I think my favorite gear I got was that mitchell you recommended from guitar center on a crazy sale.
I think you're the 3rd person in these comments to mention the MS450. It's so good!
@@ArtOfShredYT I snagged a number of deals over time from stuff you sent notices on in your newsletter, but for some reason that ms450 is my favorite.
My favourite piece of gear that I’m looking to buy is Line6 Pod Go 😍
Hey Karol.. wasn't going to enter but figured WTH.. favorite gear is my Spark Mini practice amp that I got for my birthday last year.. tre' cool
Nice! 🤘
Always cool to see another giving away guitar's. Some are so into themselves. They say, i can never give away a guitar. Thryre missing out.
That's smart of those others. I can't afford to run this channel so I'm going out with a bang. I guess.
Favorite gear purchased this year would be my first guitar. Epiphone SG Classic Worn P90 Inverness Green.
Oh nice, I like that green. I nearly purchased one to review last year, but decided against it
@@ArtOfShredYTI ended up buying an Epiphone SG Limited Edition but Pelham Blue, after watching your review also.
Im convinced , maybe if im good ill buy one for christmas 😊
I bought a player series duo sonic and it sounds great.
While blue is my favorite color, my black and red beveled bc rich warlock is my favorite guitar.
I had a warlock bass back in my younger days 🤘
Recently bought a 2004 squire strat as a project, currently fighting with the trem bridge. Added two extra springs and it's still not sitting level. Have 10s on so I don't think it's that. Any ideas?
Not sure off hand. I'd need to take a look at it
How to choose from single coil or Humbs? Easy peasy, get p90s 😅 honestly it's such a hard choice, both so nice.
always P90s as the tiebreaker 😆
Hey Karol! Love your videos! My favorite piece of gear this year is a tie: I got a Boss Katana Go, which I really enjoy; and second, I bought a Firefly LP style guitar from the Bald Shredder last month. Keep up the good work, and cheers to you!
Sweet! I need to check out a Katana Go at some point. 🤘
I bought a used PRS Santana SE because it has a 24.5 inch scale for my small hands. The Sonic Mustang may be better for me because the Santana neck is bit too thick for me.
The Santana SE is pretty nice. Good luck 🤘
Almost bought this exactly in yellow but Guitar center kept going outa stock. 😢 This blue's pretty sharp too tho.
First of all, great video! Now, I wanted to buy my first electric guitar and my main choices are: (1) this Squier, (2) the ESP LTD MH-10 and (3) the Harley Benton ST-20HH Active SBK. Which one do you think is the best option? Thanks for your videos man, really appreciate them
MH-10 is discontinued but if you can find a used one for cheap you'll probably like it! They have similarities (2 humbucker pickups) but are still different guitars (e.g. the Mustang's neck has a shorter scale length).
Edit: I see you added another guitar to the mix. I still haven't played any Harley Bentons but that one looks pretty cool! I honestly don't think you'll hate any of these, but the LTD and the HB are more similar so if you're looking for the metal look/sound you should probably go with one of those.
@@ArtOfShredYT Thank you so much! Also, keep up the great work, your videos are very helpful for beginners (especially for people like me who are broke and need to spend money very carefully hahah)
Cool video. I've wanted a mustang for ages
Fav gear ive gotten this year are my kali lp6 v2 monitors
Hey there’s that great strap again, thanks Karol!
It's my favorite strap now 🤣
Me too!
the Fender Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster is my favorite i sold my Donner dcj-1000 to help with rent but this one looks nice
I have a modded white bullet (zebra hot hums, black pearl guard, dressed frets) I got as a project during lockdown and a lime green sonic SS I picked up in December. I like them both feel wise but the sonic is going g to need some better pickups eventually. Any recommendations on something that won't cost more than the guitar? 😂
That blue is gorgeous!
Hmm, something that won't cost more than the guitar? If you want made in the USA then bootstrappickups.com/ If you want other then really any of the cheap brands like GFS should be alright although I've never personally tried GFS yet. I would just toss a Super Distortion ($100 or less) in the bridge and call it a day.
oh wait I just realized you meant the single coil ... scratch that Super Distortion rec 😆
I lived under a flight path near Toronto Airport (Pearson) for over 10 years. Especially in the summer, conversations stopped for a moment while a plane was descending to land. 😊 I like that guitar, but living in Canada, I don't think I am eligible to enter.
Oof, yeah that's rough. I used to live even closer to the airport and it was worse than it is now but it's still not ideal for filming.
One day maybe I'll be able to do international giveaways, but I definitely can't afford that right now. 🤘
Hey Karol - thanks for you honest reviews and commitment to transparency. Hoping I win that beautiful guitar but if not my first statement remains true. Stay authentic, older folks like myself thirst for honesty and authenticity. Im a self taught player but not much of a guitar fixer upper kind of guy - sounds like the squire is ready to go and rock the world - I volunteer to be the navigator 🙂.
Thanks, Mike! Good luck 🤘
like the fact that you review more affordable equipment .I am interested in a Big Lou cobra have you reviewed them yet?
No, I'd never heard of big lou guitars until now
Karol, I've enjoyed your reviews and videos. I loved your reviews on both the Sonic Mustangs, and have been trying to decide whether to buy one or both. Lol... My favorite purchase this year wasn't a guitar, it was a bass, a Squier CV Jaguar bass. I really love the 32" scale and it sounds real good. I hope you keep the channel going, but will understand if you step away. Thank you for your hard work and time spent doing this.
CVs are so nice! 🤘
@ArtOfShredYT yes, no matter if they're a guitar or bass. Great to upgrade, good bang for the buck, and good quality.
Hi!! been a fan of this channel for about a year, i’ve been really looking forward to this giveaway when i heard about it on tiktok! i’m a big fan of mustangs, and i’ve been specifically trying to get that model in that color haha! i’ve tried to buy it secondhand 3 times but got stood up. it’s cool though, life happens. another cool thing that makes me want this guitar is the skunk stripe, because my band is called skunk 😁. anyway, my favorite piece of gear i bought this year is a little practice amp that i take with me everywhere.
Thanks for the content. Last video had me rolling. Take your time and release in your own schedule and speak your mind. Thanks for putting out great content. I have not received the recent email. Hopefully soon.
Thank you!
Hey Karol, I know the channel's been a grind and that you're likely winding it down. I've been enjoying your videos and email for about a year or so and want to let you know that I've appreciated your work. God bless you in whatever you wind up doing.
Thank you 🤘
