I'm thankful I found your channel, Ryky. As corny as that sounds. Been a trying year, but I started knife sharpening to try and get knives super sharp. But I found out that I have a passion for it, and part of that reason is you. You're a genuinely nice guy and easy to watch and enjoy your commentary while I sharpen all of my knives over and over again (I need a brick because the don't get dull far enough. Haha) so I'm sharpening while watching your videos and it's like hanging out and sharpening with you, so thanks again man. Many hours of videos watched some sharpening and taking a break from all the worries of life. Have a great rest of the year, Ryky. Stay awesome.

Ryky, I have only been following you for a short time, but I have learned so much from you. The sharpening of your knives, your selection and upkeep of the stones, and your appreciation of both classic knives to the copies and budget knives of this current market. Thank you for your videos and you kind and open heart. I have watched hours of your videos and look forward to hours more. I’m glad you and yours are doing well this Thanksgiving. God bless you and your family and keep up the great work.

This is probably my favorite youtube channel. I have been following your channel for at least two years, now. I was wary of being a patreon supporter - mainly because I don't have any money just yet! lol - but that will change soon, and I had been burned in the past. You have been fairly transparent with your life, not that I would expect you to be, but it is quite refreshing & speaks to your humility. Thank you. - Neil

    Hi Ryk,
You have been an re inspiration for me mate.
I shall explain if I may...
In 2005 I was sharpening knives part time using stones and a jig.
I was getting pretty good at it too.
Then, my beautiful lady was sick at home with two small boys and decided to cook pumpkin soup.
She chose the biggest Mundial in the set.
I don’t know how but the knife got stuck and she opened the inside of her forearm in the process of freeing it.
The cut missed just about everything important, yet the surgeon stopped counting at 200 stitches.
She is fine and has a superb scar.
    I LOST MY SHARPENING MOJO!
Didn’t touch My stones, sold The jig.
    Mate, you brought me back.
I have binge watched your channel and I have found my burr again.
    I am thankful to you.
    Gracias amigo.
    Matt in Tasmania

Thank you, I am grateful for content producers, the tutorials and information available on the internet is so much greater than the 90s even by 2010 finding information was often extremely thin.
Now we clearly see the potential for the internet being a source of good information growing in leaps, like the dream we once held that the internet would be wonderful not a dumpster fire.
**Your work is a gift, again
    thank you.!
I am sorry that UA-cam has treated UA-camrs so badly, every year it gets worse, treating content producers as a source of profit, rather than with the respect one would show to the people who make it all possible. Without you there would be no you-tube, sadly self defeating. Now an Amazon wannabe. Clearly pushing content producers to promote products to sell, UA-cam is turning itself into a shopping network.

I hope the people that burglarized your studio/office were caught and appropriately punished. If not, I hope it happens soon. I've only seen a couple of your videos and I'm not a blade-sharpening or knife enthusiast but the videos that I did see I found to be very informative and helpful and for that, I thank you. The fact that you posted THIS particular video reveals the source of your success - a combination of gratitude and humility (not being humiliated but being humble and not boastful). I wish you further continued success and hope that the criminals got (or will get) what they deserve.

Hi. Big fan since I've been looking for a good JAPENESE knife and been watching knife sharpening videos. Yours is by far the best. Because of your 'top 5 list ' I was on your website and wanted to buy either the Tojiro "Zen Black" VG10 or the Moritaka Homono Aogami. Do you advise a beginner to buy such a knife? Should i also buy a standard sharpening stone? Also just for interest sake, are the knives on your website pre-used by you, or direct from the craftsmen in Japan?
PS. So excites to see your top 5 for 2020.
    Keep up the great videos!!!

Have you ever tested any local knives like Dexter? Dexter sponsors another youtuber i follow named Landshark and you can get 20% discount on those knives if you use the code. Not now but maybe in a few years i might invest in some good knives. For now i just use what i have and take notes and pointers from guys like you. Would be nice to see a little review on some basic knife brands you can find in Canada and America. Good sets etc. I think i agree with your wife, the parry knife might be the end all for me, but i need to get one first to try it lol. The knives i use right now are just whatever i got at a thrift store in Toronto 13 years ago and now that im learning about different knives i want to move up and buy ones that are purpose built like a chef knife, a good fillet knife, parry, i think thats it. Gonna go cheap to find the best shaped knife, and after i get comfortable then i can buy something of quality after i learn to respect the knife that suits me.

Ryky, you should definately look at Simply Safe for your office. It will save you headaches in the future. I know you dont do sponsored videos, but its good security system for your office. There are many channels that have promo codes to get a discount, but "stradman" and "dde" is the one that I have top of mind. That will get you 10% and a hd camera for free. Don't quote me on that, but its worth taking a look at it.

I know this is a day late but I have to say you shouldn't make any distinction between your Patrons and the people that gave to the Go Fund me account opened to replace your equipment. The money given is to support you as an ARTIST. Art (and you are creating workable art, by creating sharper knives and sharing your technique and your knowledge) have very, very slim margins. What you do is often the first thing to be eliminated/marginalized in economic down-turns. We, your fans, love what you do and we derive value from you continuing to do what you do. Accept payment from the people who want to help you continue to do it. You've earned that admiration and support. That Go Fund me page isn't a hand-out at all. You earned the money to buy your equipment and it was stolen from you. Receiving money to help replace that keeps you creating the content we enjoy. We thank you and I encourage you to take that money and keep going. I accept your thanks and extend my thanks to you for encouraging me to stick with trying to learn how to sharpen my knives with stones.

Are you going to take kendo lessons so your bamboo cutting is straight and fast? Or a knife making class? Happy Thanksgiving.
