  • If your diamond stone is not cutting quickly (i.e., sharpening your tool) chances are it needs a good cleaning. From our video, you can see how easy it is to keep your DMT sharpeners clean and ready for your dull knives, pruners, chisels, router bits...well, all your edges!

    FYI i have found that a paper towel is not a great idea. Especially on coarse stones it will leave behind a bunch of fibers from the paper towel.

      One of a few items that I buy from Harbor Freight! I'd never heard of it before, but happened upon it while looking over their selection of sanding belts. I bought a stick after "Googling" its purpose and have since discovered all sorts of uses for it. Great tip!

    I have a stone that has not been cleaned in years, and has really built in grime, would all of these work to clean it?

    • @DmtsharpSharpeners
      @DmtsharpSharpeners  8 років тому +1

      Yes. Apply w/an abrasive cleanser (ajax,comet, bon ami) and water, scrub w/a brush and rinse clean. Then wipe down to dry thoroughly and store dry.

      Do you recommend blowing with compressed air to fully dry the stone after cleaning? I am wondering if small amounts of water being left in the recessed holes after wiping the surface dry with a cloth is a concern?

    I have a red one I would like to know if it's good for straight razors?

    • @RealFunFuneral976
      @RealFunFuneral976 2 роки тому +1

      No the red is a 600 grit. You need to hit the 1200 green and then at least a 3000 to 8000 grit, plus a strop. In essence the 600 would be 5 to 10 x's less the sharpening power a cut throat blade would need for a proper edge.

    I really like my DMT diamond products but why don't you clearly mark them with their grit size?? I took some indelible marker and wrote what they are on the sides but I think it should be a company standard to do this.

    • @DmtsharpSharpeners
      @DmtsharpSharpeners  8 років тому

      +Pat M All grits are color coded and the grit charts are indicated on the packaging and on our web site.

      @chascocameraclubcamera657 6 років тому

      I too like my stone, and I also used a marker to write the grit size on the stone. It would be helpful if the company would do the same. A color code doesn't make the grit size very clear.

    If you take care of your stones properly, all you need is some water and a toothbrush to keep it clean. If you have to take a wire brush to it, you need to question your technique or do regular cleaning. There is no reason it should get caked up to that point. Unless you just have money to throw away. I can't believe a company rep actually suggested using a paper towel to clean with. That is a horrible idea and only serves to further clog the stone. If plain water doesn't work, a toothbrush or similar is all you need. The eraser is also a bad idea unless you are cleaning a ceramic stone or stick.
