Cool, was researching getting one of these for use on the rivers around here without dogs, wasn't expecting to find a video on a sailing channel. Thinking for using it for day trips with my 3 y.o., maybe solo camping too. I have cross country skis too, but something about this appeals to me.
They can be pretty versatile. If you have even one dog, you could certainly use it for camping...or just push it. It seems people find my channel from various adventure types. I do a lot of sailing but my focus is adventures that are in reach for more people...like sailing a cheap boat on an multi day trip. If you haven't yet, you might check out my playlists to see the other themes.
Thanks! It was really fun. I think I like dogsledding in small scale better than with a huge team. It's more intimate and easier to get out there fast.
Hello. Yes I have. I've seen one and it looked like a cool, affordable, lightweight option. Our friends had these kicksleds, which worked out well. My wife also has a folding Danler Husky Buggy sled that she uses with small teams.
That's called a snub line and is used for tying off the dog team to a tree, sign post, car, etc. when stopped or releasing to start. Some mushers prefer to wrap it around the handlebars, and some prefer to let it drag as a last ditch way to avoid losing the team if they fall off. It's probably not necessary for a small kicksled team, but it's a habit.
If you're looking for a kicksled this is an Esla brand. I'm not sure where you're located but if you're in the US there aren't many places selling. This one is from Ely BIke and Kicksled in Ely, Minnesota. They do ship. They also sell the pieces to attach a dog and to add a brake.

Looks like fun! Very COLD fun!
It actually wasn't that cold the day we were out. It's pposed to be -20 tonight and -30 this weekend though so no more kicksledding until after that.

You have some great camera angles! I had to watch it twice.
Thank you. That's a good compliment!
That looks like a blast! Great vid. Lovin' those dogs!

Have you heard of making a kicksled from a pair of x-country skiis?

I forgot to introduce the two kicksledders. My wife, Liz, is in green and our friend and co-owner of Ely Bike and Kicksled is in blue.
Great to see others people dog sledding
Yeah! We have a small team that we use with the kicksled, a small folding toboggan, skis, or with a scooter.
This would be a great exercise for my Australian Shepherd's. They have way too much energy.
Ha. Yes herding breeds can be pretty active. Our heart dog, Jumar, was a border collie and was one of the best lead dogs my wife and I ever ran.
What is the long rope for that drags behind the Kicksled?

I am looking for something for my husky
