Ya Allah, Briyani Mohd Shah. Briyani paling sedap pada saya lah. Dekat Selangor KL ni, merata dah cuba even Restoran Briyani Batu Pahat di sini. Tapi rasanya tetap berbeza. Bila nak berakhir pandemik ni.
Batu pahat beriani definitely differ from indian beriani. I heard stories that the recipes were leaked by malay chefs employed by the johor's sultan. Thanks for showing the spots. 💪🐂🐐
huuuuuge tubs of rice! Like feeding an army haha. hahaha run out of everything it's so busy. next time you'll be eating straight out of those huge pots 😂 "he's eating again" 😂😂 WTF poison noodles! great marketing. That plate looks really filling, so much stuff on it then the sauce too.
Wonderful expansion of what finger food can be. Wait...that's a half dish? I think NFL teams must be their main clientele if that's the case. 4:53 The Greg eye-bug. You could do a whole retrospective episode just on those instances. Jumi got close at 5:20...but not the whole way. Oh, and the early Coltrane-style sound for the poison pasta (which looks awesome)...love that sound as well as what looks awesome. And slurping bone marrow! You're breaking down our food knowledge boundaries again.
My hometown is in Muar, so here are the dishes that you should try and get mouth watered...hahahaha: 1) Satay Warisan 2) Mee Bandung 3) Soto ayam/kambing 4) Mee Rebus 5) Lontong 6) Asam Pedas Gerai No. 10, Rojak Petis and Lai Chee Kang (Tanjung Mas) near the Muar River, yoc can come here for lunch 7) Kopi 434 near Pagoh Express Bus Station 8) R&H Cafe at Jalan Temenggong Ahmad, here you can try different delicacies and snacks like Mee Siput, Tauhu Bakar and Roti Manja
The mutton bryani looks so yummy! You know... I had just had my meal but your video still makes me salivate... what the heck?! 😱😅 By the way... what is that you called "laksa leafs"? Is it what we call "daun kesum" (not "daun ketum"! 😂)? "Mee racun", eh? 😂😂😂 Look at that massive "gearbox" meat! No wonder it's called "mee racun"! I think I'll go for that racun noodles than mee bandung...
That asam pedas with kepala ikan wowww! Greg is enjoying his ikan so much and Linda is just watching next to him 🤣 Can imagine how good that spicy and sour soup of that fish dish 👌🏻
For a one day food tour like this it all depends on the dishes we order. Usually we prepare by fasting for longer from the night before. By the end, we were just sharing the same dish instead of ordering one each. The beriani was really filling
Yo digging the new style of your food tours gives a better feel for the places that you're visiting! Nice to start off with a healthy dosage of briyanni n Dahl before all the excitement. Tomato spicy noodles sounds good, would have been nice dry like a mee goreng but ya know that marrow is where it's at! Lamb shanks are the best!
Thanks a lot, guys! That is good to know - think we will incorporate more of that when we can. It was perfect to do with it being a road trip. That biryani was so hefty to start off - that’s why we needed that break in the middle 😂. Yesss love lamb shanks
man i hope Linda brought you to Parit Raja which is nearer to Kluang first, but Batu Pahat still ok haha, Parit Raja also has many legendary eating places, definitely try checking it out, its a haven for students around the area even though no students now, cheap and incredible food, with rm3 can eat till full, if wan more varieties, at most you only need spend rm5, if wan up a bit more it wont even burst your wallet, i definitely miss it there
Ahh thank you for the suggestion! We decided on Batu Pahat after hearing about the beriani and mee racun. Parit Raja sounds great - maybe we will visit someday
When you say mee racun, that got me 😱 Don’t eat racun guys!! 🤣🤣 Haha we get it, we also use that word for more positive and bold meaning in Indonesian sentence. This mee racun is next level guys! A straw to suck out the bone marrow, that is awesome 🤩
There's lots and lots places more for you to enjoy the local food abd some with nice views facing the sea. You guys should make another trip to batu pahat and don't forget to try the horseshoe crab meal as well
I like how you incorporated your trip to your destination. I'm so jealous to be in sandals life. That's a good problem to have, stay open until you run out of food. Seriously, the cinematic road trip elements really adds to your videos.
Thank you for that feedback. Glad you like those cinematic road trip elements to the video. Haha we are very spoiled to be able to wear sandals and shorts. Also out of necessity to stay in warm climates for less heavy clothes to carry 😂
Welcome to Batu Pahat, my hometown. You guys covered the famous halal food in that short road trip, you can also try asam pedas at Parit Jawa, Muar, a stone throw from Batu Pahat border. Personally I do not like Mohd Shah because of the excess oil but thats me only, glad you love the food.
Oh yes heard about the asam pedas at Parit Jawa. We went to Muar earlier this week but didn’t make it there. Muar was awesome! Ahh good to know. We chose to go there over Power - do you prefer their beriani? Was a tough choice. Thank you!
You guys should do a ask me anything. Especially cause so many people are new to your channel. My question is how much of the foods you buy do you actually eat when filming? You guys still carry around your tupperware?? My money is on yes :) I peep that backpack Greg!
Haha maybe we will someday! Actually we don’t since we usually film places on different days now that we have the time to do it. This was a rare day that we filmed all of it but we reduced our portions at each place. Only one plate of noodles for us at the last spot 😂 The backpack is where we stash our camera gear, extra masks and such
Hey Greg and Jumi!! So cool that you're in Batu Pahat on a road trip with friends. Love that the rice has lots of aromatics. We love creaminess in sauces too. The fish head with that rice too... YUM!!
The first place, was it basmati rice? It made me hungry for the Indian rice with the white raisins. The second; ohhh WOW! That fish dish!!! Every time you said; fish head, I thought grouper cheeks!! LOL!! Really liked the veggies in the noodle dish. For some reason, I am surprised at lamb being a dish there. Goes to show how much I appreciate your channel!!
Believe it was basmati rice! Definitely long grain. This one was on the sweeter side, even without having raisins. Fish head is so good! Love the cheek meat too. It was really interesting to have that big gearbox in there with the sweet and spicy gravy for the noodles along with the veggies. We appreciate getting our veggies in whenever possible 😂
Oh gosh I was at doubt when I see the name Mee Racun, definitely got my attention haha! Love bone marrow, drinking the bone marrow out of the straw... yes please! Mmmmh that lamb! I'm salivating!
Next time if you come to Batu Pahat, do come to my house.. My mum made the best Acar Buah (fruit pickles)..and also fish head curry is her specialty too.. There are other Asam Pedas restaurants you should try as well 😊😊
Yes agree Greg, that dish looks heavy, by the time I finish with the bone marrow I would be ready for a nap, one of those that you know when you go to sleep but you don't know when you gonna wake up lol 😆
There are. Even if there aren't or if they are out of clean ones, you can always ask for them. My husband always do that. 😄 He's been in Malaysia for more than 10 years now but still couldn't get use to using his hands to eat. 😆🤭
Malaysia got some creative names for its food!
It does! Gearbox and mee racun are two of the best ones we’ve heard
Man, it seems it's been ages since we saw you cooking 😂😂 enjoyed that episode !
Haha thanks, guys! Can’t believe that was like 5 months ago now
Seriously impressed with Greg's knowledge of the different spices👍
Thanks, guys!! I just love spices and so many foods here are heavy on great spices like these
Oh my goodness... when you scooped the fish meat + sauce over the rice... I’m not even kidding I drooled LOL
😂😂😂 yesss! Sooo good combined like that
Ooo biryani!! Looks like an awesome way to start the day haha those spices in there 😍
It was! Loved seeing all the spices in there
Linda was the one you told me about over the phone right :) she taking you places 😍😋😋😋
Yup! Linda is awesome 😁 She was down for a food road trip
Haha omg that is a freakin huge half fish head!!!! It’s GIANT
Right?? Can only imagine the full size!
Awesome day of eating. Love those food road trips in Malaysia. So fun!
Thanks, guys! We are so happy we decided to stay longer in Johor and visit some of the smaller towns outside of JB
You guys are wasting no time in Malaysia. Road trips are meant to make as many food stops as possible. Haha
Nope! We are maxing out as best we can since we are here for so long

The pro fish-eater always order the head!!!
The head is where it’s at!!
Ohhh yes nasi kambing :) - can see already how braised it was. Thats what I thought cardamon, cinnamon - so no cumin i see 😁
The kambing was so good! Nice change of pace from biryani we’re used to
huuuuuge tubs of rice! Like feeding an army haha. hahaha run out of everything it's so busy. next time you'll be eating straight out of those huge pots 😂 "he's eating again" 😂😂 WTF poison noodles! great marketing. That plate looks really filling, so much stuff on it then the sauce too.
Haha true! They really need them for the big crowds. Just picturing eating from those huge pots 😂😂
The mee racun was good stuff!
That plate of noodles is life. It reminds us of spaghetti con pollo back home. You're getting your veggies on. Oh lamb, nice.
So much going on in that plate!
"He's Eating Again", be a great shirt for Jumi to wear.
😂😂😂 true! That was a great line from Linda
And great choice to go to YANA ASAM PEDAS!!!!!!!!!
