- In this video we explore the lessons learned from recreating Tale of Us - Heart of Darkness in Ableton Live. This is a classic minimalist deep house style track with 4 signature synthesizer approaches that we can analyse and learn from.
Link to the original track: • Tale of Us - Heart of ... (we can't play the original in the video for copyright reasons sadly - all music in the video is a remake from scratch!)

High quality content as always Underdog, many thanks, and please keep it up. I have a request for a future video. Could you try to break down what's going on in this remix by one of my favourite producers AU5 ua-cam.com/video/mwjY1ybayZ8/v-deo.html
In particular, I'm thinking about after the build-up, it seems all tracks except the beats are over-compressed, or? It would be interesting to hear your "analysis" of it.
Thanks in advance.
if you want you can take my tracks got over 50 online as bad examples for something ^^
This man has singlehandedly reignited my flame for producing music and has leveled up my game like never before.
If this is the quality of stuff that he posts for free on UA-cam I cannot begin to imagine how much more he gives to his students.
Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to sign up for his stuff because it's going to be 100% worth it.
Thank you Oscar.
⚡⚡⚡ heck yes
Me to bro, I had not produced anything for about 3 years when one of your videos appeared in my recommended. Now I am on Abelton again daily. Big love and thanks for the videos.
He is a great teacher in producing of music, I have took a course the industrial techno, it's really great course and excellent approach. Recommending this course who is like techno! Appreciate it Oscar for this course!
Anyone who manages to refer to Lord of the Rings in their tutorial is a winner in my opinion!
I love it :)
haha totally nailed it !
Yay! Thanks for this! You already know that the GTA soundtrack was how I discovered Tale of Us. I used to abandon missions so I could keep driving and listening to the music, and then I'd pause the game to see who's making these banging tunes. And I saw it was always Tale of Us. I even thought at the time that it was a fake in-game artist for the soundtrack. But then I looked them up and saw they're a huge deal. Stupid me. 🙄
I love the way how you genuinely realized about the heart beat while making the video
That glassy operator synth is a master stroke.
It`s when I came back and played GTA after a few years of break that I bought a nightclub and randomly booked Tale Of Us and boom I own a Subsequent 37 and am a fan of Techno now !
Incredible turorial, your way of teaching makes the difficult easy. It would be great if you did a Christian Löffler tutorial. Greetings.
I thank god and youtube's algorythm I found your channel. Thank you so much and please keep making this kind of content, you are an incredible mentor!
I'm really glad UA-cam recommended me your channel. Your work is amazing. Wish you the best
Really enjoyed this deconstruction. But then I’ve always loved Tale of Us since seeing them headline Ushuaia a few years back. Thanks for a great insight into the production.
Hey Oscar, now that I have seen a couple of your videos, I have to admit, that you do a really really awesome work here for the people with valuable suggestions. In my case you are the perfect fit for my inspiration. Furthermore you are not blaming companies or people, which is a huge plus! Keep that philosophy, it will bring you further. Thank you so much and best greetz over here from Berlin!
Thanks Tim, glad to hear it resonates! 💚
Superb video! Very informative. Thank you
I've been obsessed with this song ever since I heard it from the GTA V radio, thanks for doing an analysis
Спасибо вам за такое полезное видео.Желаю вам искрени процветания и продвижения вашего канала.
Okay, this is my favourite episode yet. Takes me back to your "Deconstructed" episode!
OG material 😂
One of the best videos for sure.
i dont understand why this channel has just 64k subs. Amazing work.
i've been looking for a vid like this for agesssss, i wanted to step up my production and felt like it was lacking a bit and u sir have widened my perspective, giving me a push in the right direction!
Glad it helped!
Nice one Oscar. That baseline really reminded me of Ryuchi Sakamoto’s ‘End of Europe’ made famous as an intro often used by DJ Dave Clarke.
Fantastique tutorial again, thank you so much, 🙏!
Focus here was clearly composition, not sound design (and extremely well done), but some explanation on the distortion of the synth would still be beneficial-it‘s so characteristic here and contributes so much to the sound design, furthermore its used on at least 2 of the synth, but they don‘t swamp the frequency range- masterly! If you could add a video on this, would be great too-I find it really difficult to not have too much „salt in the soup“ and keep the balance between amount of instruments and distortion of the single element-
Thanks again for this great tutorial 👍
//ah! I see you point to it as „glassy shimmers“,-okay cool, that will complete it! 😁
Really great stuff... I´ve been learning a lot watching these videos. Great way of explaining step by step... Hopefully you can review later on some of Recondite tracks as i try to understand how to create something similar. Thank you, Oscar!
Pretty sure they'll have to include one of your track in the next GTA ;-) You delivered again haha
Thank you Oscar for your content! You're a great teacher!
Brilliant video, so many useful snippets of info.
My MacBook Pro broke down a few years ago and I own a Chromebook now, with no Ableton of course. Your videos make me want to get back into music production. Awesome stuff.
Always going to be thinking of LOTR when making BANGERS from now on lol. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for giving your time
Awesome done Oscar.. 😍😍
Congratulations!!
It's Dope for producers!
Very good tutorial!
another crazy good one vid! maybe one of my fav! big thanks !
I love watching your videos man. You're a very very good teacher man. I never skip your videos either always set aside the time to complete from beginning to end 🙏
Thanks man! 💚 glad you like them!
Zalig man hoe ge dit alles hebt uitgewerkt, ik bedoel alles, channel, music, cursussen, nice one!
Thanks man :D
Thanks. Amazing content dude
Grrrrreat content, editing and storytelling! So much usable info in this amount of time, thank you! 🙏🏻
Just one thing; They slayed the dragon 60 years before leaving the Shire with the ring (which happened in "The Hobbit") Loved the analogy, though!
😁 I realised it as I was saying it. 💙
Great video! You've given me some ideas to try
Great vid, inspiring tips. I use the same tactics when I write my Live Techno tracks using just 1 x MC-707. 👍😎
This with Vinewood Blues o Trevor's Dream also from the Gta Soundtrack will be amaazing!
Great tutorial, you’re the best 🔥 thanx 🙏🕺🏻
That’s a heartbeat of a heart with severe myocarditis and arrhythmia! 😂
Your Videos are super helpfull Big Thx ✌️👍
Great channel! Please continue with the amazing content.
I'll do my best :D
loved the vid, All the tale of us gta tracks are good, love to see more tracks broke down
Gracias !
The Tale of us track is a copy of an Oliver Hunteman track called tranquilizer, only a few notes change
YOU WANNA CATHY MELODY? I GOTCHU
mate I really like your videos (I think I watched them all by now).
one suggestion, if I may, without sounding too out of place here: get rid of that "thunder-ish" drum when something gets written on the screen. I don't think it makes your videos any better. The magic is in the way you explain everything. kudos for that!
thanks again Oscar
Have u ever heard please stay by matthieu faubourg? I've been trying to break down that melody for a while.
sounds more like demouse, great video by the way
nice one man!!! can you make one of sidechaining bass? its not the same sidechain in other genres than in Melodic techno we need some tutorials :c please boss!!!!
Its like the original but so much better
Hello, this video is really masterpiece, with a whole bag of information, thanks, maybe you could do this kind of video how to make Adana Twins - The Curve like track?
Thoughts on doing a track analysis of Peter Van Hoesen "Trim the Facts", I know he uses a lot of modular gear for his sound design but I'm curious what you thing about this track and it's components.
Tale of Us 👌
YESSS we do that 😎
You should another one of these with gta 4 theme song
Огрмное спасибо!
Hi Oscar, I went to sign up for your Deep Dive course, but is showing it is sold out. I have sent two emails to yourselves, with no reply as of yet. Was just wondering when your next Deep Dive course will be available ? Thanks
Hi Paul! Sorry for the delay in responding, I'll respond in the next day :) Indeed the September class is at full capacity now, next one will be in January.
@@OscarUnderdog No problem at all Oscar, I understand you are probably busy. That's great I shall sign up for January. Thank you for clarifying that for me.
Whoa this is a weird video analysis. Nice!
Weird but nice, that's my target niche right there 👀😁
@@OscarUnderdog Lmao. Are you a fan of Grand Theft Auto 5 or did you or somebody come across this production music track in the game?
GOD U ARE SO HANDSOOME AND ASMART :D
maybe as an Idea.. Imaginando always include the Ablteon projekt file
Why did you use a frequency shifter on the snare rather than just transpose it in the sampler?
Hey Josh! I can't totally remember in this case, but it depends on your goal: I wanted the snare to sound darker & a bit degraded, not necessarily pitched down. But pitching down would have been a good thing to try as well!
Deconstruct black coffee tracks please...
oh damn, he isnt the brazzers guy..
I have a tiny little request please, the hard bang sound effect gets a little too repetitive sometimes, if you could use some variations, that would really be awesome! Thank you a lot!
yo this sounds a lot like that song... can't remember the name :c
^^
I considered signing up for your classes, but 1000€ is simply too much for an online course dear Oscar!
what ableton skin is this ?
Just the default for me! Didnt change it at all. Default light skin I think!
@@OscarUnderdog Okay… Mine seems different LOL thanks for the response anyway! Great videos 😁
🌈🌈🌈
Please do a Boris Brejcha tutorial🙏🏻
There is no dragon in the lord of the rings !!!!!! Sorry the Tolkien fan in me got the better :D
