Come on.
Imagine being a Rouge Trader and not having a Sister of battle bobblehead doll that shakes their bolter and sword on your spaceship's dashboard.
... and that's the right road to walk!
* Rogue
@@cavemanbum man, I can't even start to express how little I care, but I will try: so little I'm not even going to edit, but just enough to tell you to fuck right off.
Sister of Bobble?
@@Alkhalim nice
Just imagine a skillfully crafted terrain board with cartoon-like gothic ruins and a clash of two grimcute armies. That's just some next level s**t.
I want that
Just imagine a "real" 40k battle and these guys charge into the fray. Enough to make a Hive Tyrant have an oopsy poopsy.
I honestly don't think this'll affect future wh40k because gw comes out with new minis all the time and they're all grimdark. The chibi is just for fun
I think most people screaming about "40k loosing it's grimdark" often forget 40k was originally self aware satire
Like you always say yourself: They're not finished until they have a base...
Many moons ago, in the early naughts, when there was a local GW store, one guy had "The Emperor's Clown Posse" space marine chapter. They were all painted up in clown colors, and converted with floppy shoes, pie launchers, seltzer bottle sprayers, etc. I loved it.
Man, these new Squats aren't what I expected.
Bro, such an underrated comment 👏
Does 40k have room for all this cuteness? My guy, have you SEEN like 70% of all 40k fanart?
"In the grim darkness of the far future there is only....CHIBIS!"
What destroys grimdark is having the imperium always being seen in the right.
THIS
then read other books? :D
Let me go find all 2 books that aren’t imperium POV because you know there’s just a treasure trove of content out there for xenos and other factions
Get over it, peoeple are humans and will generally favor humans and the human POV.
You completely missed my point but go off with the room temp bro
This seems like something that would make a good sequal.
Turn the chibis into grimdark lol.
Like I did with my sister's My Little Ponies. I got into so much trouble for that, but it was totally worth it.
@@arespaulson414 I am fairly sure that counts as one man's dystopia already nefore you Grimdarked it.
People always forget that at it's Grim Darkest core, everything in 40K is tongue in cheek about it's absurdity.
Exactly! I wish some people got that memo...
I legit like them.
Fictional stuff shouldn't always be taken a 100% seriously
One person's kawaii is another person's grimdark... and vice-versa... I'll jump on the chibi war-wagon once they start doing xenos :3
grim dark is so kawaii ☠
"who a cute little hive tyrant you are yes you are"
You know you are jello over chibi slaanesh's kawaii level.
As someone whose interest in the hobby goes back to the late 80s, I find it a bit strange that there is an element in the community who don't understand, or have forgotten, that despite all the grimdark dystopia, 40K is supposed to be fun. The Universe itself takes a satirical swipe of real world issues such as far right politics, evangelical theocracies, personality cults, and all the rest of it. And this started right from the beginning. The name Rogue Trader was taken from dubious practices in the financial world, ol' Ghazghkull' full name is a riff on 80's UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and his Boyz are basically football hooligans who menaced football grounds all over the country the 70s and 80"s. There's loads more and makes an interesting read. I love the look of these little fellers and they have the feel of the early minis with their goofiness. I also own the Nurgle plushie courtesy of my grandson. Lets have more of this sort of thing please just to remind us of the fun we are supposed to be having.
The original setting was very
I remember sitting through 20 minutes of a 45 minute whinge about how Games Workshop's artwork had lost its way and is no longer grim dark enough. Presumably, the humorous charisma vacuum presenting this video had never picked up a codex pre-4th edition, because I own the second edition Tyranids codex...and there is some hilariously goofy shit in there. It just seems that some people have forgotten that grim dark is supposed to be over-the-top ridiculous....or more likely they want the universe to take itself super-seriously so that they'll look like something more than grown adults that collect and paint toys. As a grown adult who DOES collect and paint toys, I can confirm that trying to take yourself really seriously when you do does not make other people take you seriously at all!! 🤣
Ah yeah, the "satirical take" argument. The 40k is somewhat realistic in the way that humanity is attacked from everywhere. Its a defensiv position. If the individual had freedoms and rights, the Imperium of men would instantly crumble.
@@LordGriebenschmalz do you really think 40k isn't satire? yes, the imperium often has justifications, but that doesn't mean the things it does are correct or right. let's take the inquisition, their role makes sense and would probably be valuable to humanity, but they are so corrupt and awful that while they burn innocents, geanstealer cults and chaos cults pop up on just about every world. The Worship of tech has led to 10,000 years of stagnation instead of progress. "the imperium would instantly crumble" the imperium IS crumbling, that is the point.
The fact you used far right ....we know who u are.
@@warhammered6485 the hell are you on about lol
I'm very glad you made this video cause I saw Commissar Gamza throw a fit on these models and that made me feel shite. Glad to see you showed some love and care to them!
Commissar Gamza is a toxic tryhard. I blocked his channel on my feed.
As an owner of several Cthulhu plushies, I agree :)
there you go Jay. awesome messaging there. 👍 in the immortal words of Baldemort: let's have fun.
The minis really look good. I'm blown by the hair you did on the sister.
I honestly kinda like it un-ironically. Their silly and fun, that's what it's about.Youve done really well
For a few years I felt they where turning away from grimdark. But so some of the warcry kits and black Templars has made me reconsider.
Great painting, honest positive perspective, AND bonus chibi juggling? Instant EOB classic
Old hammer was much more goofy than 'grim dark'. The current theme of 40k came about in 3rd edition. People who complain about non grimdark merely don't know what they're talking about.
These turned out really nice, even better than I expected after seeing the original simple toy paint quality
Very cool video and the minis came out great! Although a wise man once said that no mini is finished until the base is done
Yo that Sister looked AWESOME with your paint job
If we make spice merine big, they buy!
Me yes yes yes, sisters of battle!
Never got why people think 40k can do different tones. Marvel does everything from extreme works for adults only to cartoons for toddlers.
I don't think it's the different tones. I think it's that alot of people see how other hobbies and things they love have been hit hard by political actors and compromises made for it to appeal to mass markets and they worry that's going to happen to 40K. Which I can't say I blame them.
@@GusOfTheDorks 40K has always been political. It started as satire and has continued to be satire. The problem is there are people that don't get the satire and the contrast.
@@mgzukows I never said there hasn't been politics and satire in 40K. Anyone who plays orks or noise marines can tell you that. Im just saying some people worry about certain political actors (like those obsessed with feminism or political correctness) coming in and changing things in bad ways. Like making any shade of politics loudy overt instead of subtle or trying to introduce ideologies that clash with current 40K or try to outright subvert what people like and what makes 40K special.
@@mgzukows People like this are exactly who we need to watch out for. These are the types of phrases these bad actors use to weasel their parasitic ideology into everything. "____ has always been political"...40k is not and never has been political.
I dunno. I kinda got into 40k by accident. Wandered in because I thought it was a gaming store, saw all the little figures and thought it was neat but I thought it was kinda just big armored dudes and that wasn’t really my thing. No shade to space marines, but I don’t really connect with an army of guys. The store manager showed me the Drukhari and I fell in love.
I just think the new focus of GW on making something for everyone and welcoming in people who weren’t usually “part of the fandom” is pretty awesome and without that hand extended I would’ve missed it.
I don't care for the Chibis. But then, I don't care for any Chibis of any sort. They just aren't my thing. However, I am glad that they exist for the people out there who do like them. The Chibis don't hurt me or the setting, and if they bring a little ray of sunshine into someone's life, great! ALSO- you guys should have photoshopped a Commissar hat onto Nick in the little bit at the end. That would have been SO GRIM DARK. And hilarious. And Warranted.
Wait. W40k was supposed to be grimdark? Is that a kind of imperium joke that i'm too ork to understand?
The final minute, is gold. The hobby is not a battle ground (Warhammer is, but isn't the point...).
We are different people, but all we want is fun.
Liking the video for that pre-intro alone it was hilarious
Love the final hair on the gun nun! Good job!
The minis had more bright colors than Disney back in 2nd ed and were squashed etc... and I loved it. Still miss things like hazard stripes and red color on Ultramarines.
The lore is where you found the darkness and I liked that too but there was often a dark humor and general "strangeness" in the writing that I often miss today.
Plush Cthulhu appreciates your position in this matter.
NYARG'L PHTAH!
I think the less grim dark stuff is a good gateway for people to get into the hobby, for one reason or another. Be it a younger family member or a spouse who may see it as a daunting universe to dive into. Either way, GW making some product lines less grimdark doesn't really make any difference to my daily enjoyment of the established lore and tabletop.
Personally this would be great for kids to get into the hobby it's slowly moving from grim dark but the hobby is still alive and if your worried about grim dark make paint jobs be more grim dark and boom no changes to your part of the hobby 😁
Thank you kindly for finally do this project. Now, I'm wondering if I will paint mines, as these cuties are ready to be painted! ^^
Those look fun, and look like great practice for painting
Hatwed is the Emperwers gweatest gift to humanity.
-Chibi Space Marine.
YES. I've been waiting for this one for a while.
Impressed by the paint sticking
Good video, I'm definitely painting some of my chibi models when I get more painting skill
I vaguely remember these. Blind bagged minifigs that I think were designed in Japan, and came out at the same time as the Space Marine action figure produced by Ban Dai.
The Ultra Marine was my favourite after it was painted by you. Looks amazing. They were all cool though.
After seeing this, I totally wanna see two Chibi armies duking it on the tabletop!
Awesome stuff! I started on the Grey Knight first but only go as far as priming the entire thing black!
I thought you ran out of stuff to talk about? Bring out your Godzilla merchandise!!! 🙌🙌🙌
To be fair, nurglings have always been cute.
Great video Jay.
Seriously..... fantastic job.
Wow.
A full sisters of battle Chibi army is very interesting :)
But if nothing else a couple character models as Chibi would be amazing to see.
Look up 'Siblings of Conflict'
I really didnt expect you to make them look so cool
I have the chibi spacemarine advent calendar and it was so cool I am very happy with purchase
Yes, yes, we do want those people! Please! I work in this industry and everyday deal with "veteran" and "original" hobbyists complaining about all the new players and different directions Games Workshop are taking their IP to attract a new and younger audience. I hear that they aren't caring about their original "core" fans (nonsense). It's tiring explaining to them that without the new people in Warhammer there would be NO MORE WARHAMMER. Celebrate the hobby in your own way for sure, but don't encroach on others and what they enjoy with your negativity! I'm almost 40, have been into Warhammer and Wargaming for 20+ years and have the Skitarii Chibi on my desk at work! Thanks for being such a positive force in the increasingly negative UA-cam scene Jay and Nick!
I want GW to lean into this and release some actual chibi minis, not just collectables. Even just a limited run April Fools thing, like a little versus box. Chibi orks versus chibi krieg so it's something that already exists reproduced for comedy rather than mocking an army by their "box" being cute genestealers eating adorable terminators or something.
Heres the thing about it if it makes u happy and smile u do not need to prove it to anyone else i love these guys Little miniatures of Them Grimdark is not the only thing that matter it what makes us happy Is the most important thing
that ultramarine looks amazing
The juggling skills be real!
Ok, I really wasn't giving those chibis a second look before, but after you painted them I might just begin to like them : ).
Very cool cute little project.
the admech came out so good!
I now know what to make my skitari infantry with.
Wholesome as always
I got the grey knight from a gacha machine in Sapporo like 2 years ago, he has been pulled apart and is 20% miliput at this point from smoothing out so many details and stuff to make him into a usable inquisition character. I maybe have too many incomplete projects.
Wow that went well. Good pre painted base coats, it's almost like they want you to paint them.
Gamza and his goons would absolutely hate you.
So they redid the old metal sculpts in rubbery plastic with ever so slightly larger heads? ;)
maybe it's time to 3d print a kawaii chaos army...
The chibis look good! (Except for the floppy floppy swords)
Grimdark
/grime-dork/
Adjective
1. A Zorn palette coloured John Blanche illustration, in a rusted tin can, floating down a sewer pipe, with a rat on it, with a laser for an eye.
2. Portmanteau word derived from the tagline of the Warhammer 40k universe, similar to frenemy, chillax, or brunch.
"In the grim darkness of the far future there is only uguu."
The world is grimdark enough, gimme some wholesome chibi 40k. I’m buying these good boys and girls asap, too cute !
Considering that the Orks exist in general, there's always a tongue in cheek element to the universe. So a chibi line is just a bit of fun for the shelf.
Now I want an ork chibi for my desk.
I actually really like the chibis, I think that they're really cute and they seem like a good way to get young children into the game (the chibi space marine has the same base size as a primaris space marine) like training wheels for them before they start building and gluing
Also they seem really fun painting projects, at my local gw they have a shelf full of painted chibi models, and they were actually really cool looking lol
I totaly like those chibi models! Already bought some STL a while ago and printed them on my FDM printer waiting on my pile of shame to be painted (hopefully soon 😸👍)
3d printers are great for the mcfarlane models too. The community has made tons of stl files to convert your marine into almost any chapter loyalist or traitor
Nobody:
Games workshop: Do you guys want Chibi figures?
The tone of 40K is all over.
On one hand everything GW release officially is all GRIMDARK.
But then we have the memes……
Hell even Dawn of War Dark Crusade had campy fun with the characters.
I actually do chibis and small character sculpts in the sea of scale anime booba sculptors that seem to get all the attention, so great to hear about the last thing! as well as the painting thing, since doing too much anime style sculpt kind of got me lost in too simple way of coloring.
Happy little clouds
I love these models. I saw them on Etsy or some site that was similar. There are a lot of them in different themes, vampires and werewolves, zombies and "angels of death", so cute and still bad ass.
Points for Biollante being the best Kaiju
I'm still mad how under represented the imperial guard is especially since they are a monumental factor in keeping the imperium alive.
oh hell yeah a fellow godzilla vs biolante fan
😂🤣😂 On Point Jay! Thank you!!😇👍🤣
This video was so wholesome! The models all look fantastic、AMAZINGJob!
no its not wrong to take a little lightheartedness out of our hobbies its important to live first and smile i think being able to smile with your hobby Is The best thing
Where is the chibie tyranid?
Take the assassin of the base and put it on the legal base size
I love cute in grimdark it's a great contrast that matches.
For the assassin, it looks like you could pop it off that base and put it on a normal sized base.
To me 40k is more of a dark comedy then anything else.
Wha?! This can't be.. THIS HERESY!! THIS IS HEREESSYYY!!!!! NOOoooo!!
I wonder how a chibi Guardsmen looks like.
My favorite is that the people who like grimdark the most are usually the least grimdark people.
“When I get home from my job at Wendy’s I’m gonna paint some dystopian soldiers”
Huge improvement :)
I really like these chibis btw, they are cute and don't hurt the grimderp at all in my opinion. Not like fanart did it first anyway ;)
"get right on that"...it ONLY took 4 months for this video to come out, LUL
Aye, the video is here
I think the evesor assassin chibi is really funny, sure no one in the 42nd millennium cares much for the Geneva convention (with some notable exceptions) but the evesor assassin is the epitome of the words "acceptable causality"
thats why i love them
Man I need to try his ultramarines scheme
A tiny part of me wanted the chili marine to join the eternal crusade
“This is serious business”
Mate we collect plastic soldiers
now I wanna see the chibi models fight plushie Biolante
