This looks great! My wife and I are trying to design a hobbit styled Airbnb outside of Bend, Oregon. We've been trying to figure out how we would do the walls, but this was a really informative video that we might just follow suit! Thank you for sharing!
This is so far the best I have ever seen and your work is amazing and realistic. Just wondering what kind of powder did you use to sprinkle? Not to mention your skill is next level.
I think I was recommended your channel because I was looking at stone-look wallpaper on Amazon. You're very talented and very handsome as well! I enjoyed watching!
You're too talented to have inly 2 videos... I was just curious I would like this application outside on my foundation walls what would you suggest I use to seal that please
Very impressive! I noticed you used crumpled tin foil to create some texture over the plastic? I've got a small man cave where I will attempt to do this method I'm sure without the same artistic talent you have. I also liked the faux door! Thanks for sharing your talent.
Thank you for watching, and for your kind words, you are correct about the crumpled foil, it creates ridges and cracks and more details, if you will try this method it is the simplest way to create cool looking stone, and the least expensive one.
did you just put this over the painted concrete block? Did you do anything to prime the surface to get the mortar to stick to the painted concrete block?
Thank you for watching . Masonry mortar mix , by quikrete . Tile Grouts , unsanded or sanded 3 different colors . Concrete acrylic sealant gloss , by Behr.
This turned out great! Love it! I've been trying to find techniques to get this same look on pavers. Would the colored grout hold up outside in the elements? Or other ideas for getting splashes of color? I thought of maybe mixing up some small batches of brown and charcoal colored and swirling it around with the standard grey.
Thank you for watching!! For the pavers you can buy cement colorants and mix 3 different colors in separate containers , when mixing for the pavers just add one of each colors without mixing it too much . Or just sprinkle tile grout or powder concrete colorant on top of the pavers while they are wet .
@@simpleconstruction132 That is indeed one of the techniques I was going to try. I've got a list of techniques from all these vids I've watched! I'm going for a flagstone look, organic shape/color, no flat surfaces, etc. I don't have stamps like I often see used to accomplish this look. I'm going to try with the use of forms, so mine will be upside down. Using scrap wood to define the profile, getting rid of all the flat & smooth surfaces by chipping, carving, gluing random stuff to the inside and bottom of forms, possibly sand or scrap cloth to build up areas, and then simply covering with a tarp to create a non-stick form surface. Hoping that will produce an organic shape that I can easily release once it's set.
@@myjunkmail007 for 14 years I use small sprayer (electric or air) with 14 colours, sprayed on but firstly in the mix to get background colours #StoneFX
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this. We’re looking to do this in our living room. Question: is it ok to apply a mortar mixture onto wood/drywall or is cinder/cement wall preferred?
Will this work over styrofoam forms that were used to pour the concrete foundation walls? Will it stand up as exteriors walls. Beautiful work. Thank you
Thank you for watching. Depending on the wall surface that you are using you need to do base coat , for the masonry wall you can just trowel on light coat of masonry mortar mix , or tile adhesive cement for better adhesion, if you want to install on the drywall or plaster you can either install metal lath and base coat , or 1/4" cement board and scratch coat or base coat with the same materials as mentioned above, for this video i have used 2bags of masonry mortar mix, total cost $14 . Also for better adhesion of the final coat you can wet base coat with the sponge or paint brush.
@@simpleconstruction132Thank you! I finally found your answer on base coat for concrete board! So appreciated! Can you tell me the concrete stain brand you would recommend as for a paver?
That's a lot of weight you are trusting drywall to hold. You can take steel mesh and screw it through the drywall into the studs then pull the mesh off the wall a little so mortar can get behind it then make this.
It’s a bit misleading to say that all you need is tools and the mortar mix when you have clearly applied something else onto these walls prior to putting the mortar on, yet it’s not mentioned in the video. So, what was it that you have first put on the wall and then covered up in mortar?
Alright time to work on transforming the basement into the batcave

Great video! How many pounds of masonry mortar mix do I need per square foot?
So helpful, can’t wait to try!
Absolutely amazing, was looking for something like that and I found you. Bravo 👏 👏 👏
This video gives me confidence I can do this! What's the colored stuff you're throwing on top...is that concrete dye?
What do you apply to the wall before the concrete mud?

Wondering if this would work on a drywall wall (vs block).
You could if you nail up galvanized steel mesh. Can get it in the flooring department at Home Depot or a builders supply store
It looks great! Thanks for sharing. I'm planning to try something like this soon and your video helped.
Awesome work. I do a similar finish covering foam insulation cut into stone pieces

Beautifully done! Thank you for sharing this process.
So is that the same mortar smeared onto the cinder blocks as a flat base to build the rocks on?
What are the powders you are using to add color?
You just apply the mortar on the wall? No primer or anything like that before?
Following!

Did you have to apply thin mortar layer to cinder blocks?
I ❤️ the look & it’s economical!
Would this work straight on plywood?
idk but I would cover the plywood with cement board. it's porous so it would hold a lot better for sure.
Great job man
nice creativity brother ...greetings from australia
What is the colored white and clay powdered stuff you splash on to the mortar?
that's what I was wondering
Really good job!
Was the dusting just cement? How’d you add colour to dusting? Thanks looks great
You can buy color mixes for concrete or mortar. They come in powders like that.
Awesome, God bless you
Will this work over styrofoam forms that were used to pour the concrete foundation walls? Will it stand up as exteriors walls. Beautiful work. Thank you
Lovely job❤
That is awesome!
Impressed... Did you prep a wall before applying the mortar?
what did you use to add the color? the brown and white dust?
it is tile grout that was used leftovers from previous tile projects.
thank you for watching .
Wow!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this is exactly what I was looking for. Absolutely gorgeous
How did he prep the wall for this diy? Or concrete sticks to anything without trouble?

Hi. Great video!! Could you tell me what is the first layer you put ? Is mortar aswell? How it was applied? Wall Needs water or preparation
It looks like he has a thin layer of mortar as a base but he hasn’t answered what it is for sure
we love to see it
It looks great. You're throwing that mix Like a pro! It would have been nice if you actually explained what you are doing and using.
would time be good for exterir wall, and if so how to perve most/mold
Yo it was amazing
That's sooo cool
Man, I wonder if my dry wall can support all that.
What is the thin underlay of grey? (you can see it during 1:33-1:40) Is a base coat necessary under the mortar? I can't wait to try this!
Hi . thank you for watching . I used same masonry mortar , for the base coat and different color tile grouts, for the final colors .
Phenomenal job! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching
