I’m doing December declutter and I will be tackling things by category. Yesterday I took care of mail. Today I declutterred throw pillows. Tomorrow will be books. I’ve been declutterring for over two years now. 😬
My new decluttering habit is: when I get an Amazon delivery (way too many!) instead of recycling the box I have to fill it with items to take to the thrift store...items in/items out!
I like that/your take on it. A lot of people say if you buy a new sweater get rid of a sweater. If you buy 2 new pairs of jeans let 2 pair go. I collect mugs. I love my mugs. I use my mugs. So I don't want to get rid of a mug. But maybe I can declutter a pair of shoes I wore once and just don't want them. Or a book already read and I don't re-read books. Or mis matched/odd plates. Does anyone else have those? TFS
@@lauraann7816 Yes! Your idea is great! I wouldn't get rid of anything that truly brings you joy. I don't have any particular items I fill my Amazon box with, I just know I have many items that can be donated when I am bringing more into the house. Today I took a medium size box of clothes to the thrift store that I never wear. I have done that several times, so my closet is pared down to only 1) items that actually fit, and 2) items I know I will wear.
2 days ago while going through random 💩 I found a sweatshirt that says Super Grandpa on it. I bought it for my daughter to give my dad when she was little. I lost my daughter in 2007 in an accident. My mom died suddenly in 2018. My dad lost his 3-year battle with cancer 86 DAYS LATER. I washed the sweatshirt and I am wearing it while watching you. I understand your point and agree with it. But Super Grandpa will be staying with me ❤
My heart is breaking for you! That is a lot of loss, and I am with you on this one. If that sweatshirt brings you comfort and peace, it is serving you. I wouldn’t declutter it either. I have beautiful things from my mom that hold much deeper meaning and memories for me which I will never part with.
When I wake up in the morning, I need to assume it is going to be a good day, instead of assuming something bad is going to happen. I need to declutter y negative thought and embrace positivity.
My main goal for decluttering & simplifying my life is because having to sort through my parents belongings & other family members, I don't want that to be my kids inheritance. I have seen too many families torn apart over the fighting that goes on due to stuff. I have already spoken with my kids & told them if there is anything that they want of mine, let me know now. Otherwise it's gotta go. It has been an ongoing decluttering process for the past few years & I have much more to go, but like I said... it's a process. I have many projects that I've saved for my retirement years which I no longer have the desire nor ambition to do. It's become a fantasy life and it's time to let go of that season & move on. Much of the "stuff" that I have spent money & time acquiring, I could've probably survived without. In fact, I know I could have. Thanks for this reminder for me to keep on decluttering & simplifying my life.
I share the same reason for wanting to declutter. I really don’t want my kids to have to spend there time going through my things. I would rather send them on a trip together.
Yes! I cleaned out my closet! I cleaned out our pantry! I also donated furniture that served no purpose. I have two more closets to clean. It’s a very freeing feeling!
I declutter my whole apartment in early 2024. There was a lot of my mother’s things (I lost her in 2015) that I let go. My anxiety and panic attacks are better now that there is no chaos in my space. Everything has a place and everything is in its place. Thank you for your tips. I just found your channel and I really like your calm manner and your content. Melissa from Indiana.
Since I decluttered my vanity, I LOVE looking at it again. All that perfume! I stuck the excess in a bin in the closet, just to see if I can live without them, and yes, I think I will. After Christmas I am decluttering every room. It's so freeing! Thank you for confirming what I'm planning on doing! Hugs, Jeanie xxoo
Yes, out of the blue, suddenly your channel came into my feed tonight, what timing!!!! (As if the Universe knows I needed to hear this right now!!!!) I listened to every word you uttered and I took notes mentally! I even rewind a few times just to hear it on repeat again! I have to do just everything you mentioned! Declutter and purge! Start a new year, a new season with a clean slate! It’s overwhelming but I have to cut up the chores into bite size so I can keep it up and not lose my motivation! It’ll be some epic tasks because I’ve move from a large home to a small condo and my things are everywhere I lay eyes on!!! Haven’t the motivation to organize it all but I will do it now that I have your suggestions, it’s the nudge I needed! Thanks! 😂😢😅
Today, just set your eyes on one area of clutter and work on that!! Now that you have downsized, use that to truly downsize your life!! Make way for all of the great things to come!!
Wow! I think you were listening in to my conversation with my cousin yesterday! I was trying to encourage her to do just what you talked about, but you say it oh-so-much better than me! I am passing this along to her today, as well as posting it to the Fitness Countdown group I facilitate (we all love you!) as the first December session. Thank you for a 'keeper' post! 💝It's a gift to us all!
A loved ones clothing who has passed away can be turned into a nice square pillow…. One 18”x18” pillow using that crazy patterned sweatshirt or flannel shirt from grandpa can be nice. If you have multiple clothing items, consider a few pillows for your kids if it would be from their grandparent. I wish I would have done that instead of tossing my grandmother’s dress. ❤
You are too cute with the baking sheet story!!! Oh did i laugh! One year, i gifted brand new baking sheets to my 2 friends and told them to get rid of an old one. They were thrilled! They thought it was a great gift idea.
New subscribers here after your channel showed up on my feed tonight!! Exactly what I needed to complete in the next two months ( starting now ) Declutter and purge!! Thanks for the reminder! 😂😀
As I pull out my Christmas boxes (lots of them) I do have trouble (actually can’t do it) decluttering and “getting rid” of anything. I am thinking (it’s my plan) to have my adult children to go thru it all once I retire BEFORE I donate to goodwill because many of the items were my grandmother’s decor, and some stuff is new but not sure if they would like the items for their houses at Christmas.
Is there a school or senior’s centre nearby ? They are always looking for supplies and hopefully it will make it easier for you if you know things will get used and bring joy to other people.
Yet here I am regretting giving away the red sweater I got rid of 2 years ago. Why does my brain work this way? I'm trying to not buy more hangers so if I get something, then 1-5 things I already have need to go out.
I admit, digitizing has been a slow transition for me. I have been working on growing with the times and not. fighting change, but this particular area has been the hardest!! My husband is working on it though!
Go digital with all of your bills - solves a lot of the mail problem. Unasked for catalogs - easy - trash 'em. Or if you have time to waste, call each one and tell them to remove you. I had to threaten AARP with the Attorney General if they continued to send me one more unsolicited email, post card, piece of junk mail to try to get me to subscribe to their crap membership. Zero memberships here - waste of money.
What will you be decluttering this week???

My sister made me a pillowcase out of one of our dad's shirts after he passed. I like to hug it and it doesn't take up too much space
That is beautiful!!! I would have someone do that if I lost my husband! I hope to never need that service.
I made a quilt and pillow cases from my late husbands' shirts, and let go of the rest of them.

If you don't want to iron, you could try putting it in the dryer with an ice cube for 10 or 15 minutes, then removing it immediately
I have tried that. It works with most things, but not that shirt!!! Ugh!

We have been working on digitizing our bills. We are fortunate to not have a lot of bills, but some companies have been slow to make the transition.
