    Love the videos. Those cap rivets you used the pliers to set work well with a hammer, 1# round steel puck on one side (about the size of a hocky puck) and hit the other side with a hammer. I use these rivets quite often.

    Well, my new Robbins top arrived and yesterday was the day to tackle this project. Other than a few minor areas of guess work, I was able to follow your video step by step and complete the project in just under 9 hours. The biggest challenge I had was that I accidentally buried the rear window defroster cable behind one of the plastic sidewalls so I had to backtrack a bit to get that issue fixed. Also, Robbins short-changed me 2 long rivets exactly like they did to you, so like you I also had to dive into my private stash of long rivets. You're probably laughing at my 9hr install time, but hey, for a first-timer I'm not complaining, and the end results look good so I'm patting myself (and you) on the back! There are other similar tutorial videos available but yours is hands down the most detailed and thorough ... I seriously would not have even attempted this project if all I had available were the other people's videos ... yours was the only one which left me with the confidence that maybe I really could do this work on my own and save myself $1,500 - $2,000 in professional installation labor. Figured the very least I could do is send you a "Super Thanks"!!!

      P.S. - Ironically I met a guy at Lowes yesterday who also owns a 2006 Miata MX5 and who also desperately needs to replace the top. I sent him the link to your video and told him if he follows your video then he can do all the work himself.

    • @jimwheeler8865
      @jimwheeler8865 2 місяці тому +1

      Sorry ... one more comment. I just used a hammer for the cap rivets until I got to the corner pieces, at which point the hammer was not affective. I tried pliers like you, but my pliers were not big/long enough to reach ... as such, I got a little creative and used a large threaded adjustable C-clamp to squish the 2 pieces together and that worked quite well.

    Thanks to your video, I installed my Robbins top in a 2009 MX5. Everything went pretty well, except for the very last part. That’s the part where you attach the top to the first bow. My top uses to pieces with Velcro. I can’t figure out how it is supposed to go. Robbins has been no help. Any ideas?

      Hello The, Wow, I love hearing good news like this! As far as the problem, I would not really now without seeing it. But I think the big flap from the rear to the front bow does attach by Velcro. Please keep liking and watching!

      I did speak to Doug Robbins at Robbins and he told me how those two pieces were to be installed. His first question to me was why did you decide to do this yourself? My response was that I was quoted $2300 to replace the top from a local shop. He called that outrageous, I agreed. But, with your help, I was able to do it myself.

      Hello Ryu, I am a proud resident of East Texas. The cost depends a lot on how much the person doing the work wants to charge you in your area, their experience and reputation and so forth.
