Probably the worst station design ever done by the MTA. The time required to transfer from/to LIRR to subway or MN, let alone just getting out of the station, is insane. It completely ruins the hope of getting ridership because the commute time is a joke.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I am planning a video just to time the walk time without making any stops to buy tickets and using elavator instead of escalators. Similar comments about deep subway stations. The most efficient are the ones just below street level

@@ridetrainz I think that if they had installed express elevators direct from the platforms to the concourses, it would have mitigated some of the pain and hassle involved. I went through the station on purpose in November just to try it out and was shocked by how bad the layout was. I also noticed that the MTA dialed back the number of trains meant to serve it severely, which might explain why it was a ghost station even during the rush hour on a weekday.

All of you seem to forget how much existing infrastructure they had to work around to begin with.

Grand Central Madison is usually packed during rush. Just people use Penn mainly for the better transfers.

Another thing is getting to MNRR is actually easy. There are exits leading into the 45th and 47th st passages. Can take about 4-6 minutes depending on what MNRR track you need to get to and what car you get off.

I have never been there but it looks to me like they should put in some moving walkways. That's a long walk just to get to your train. And fill in the missing ticket machines. Why cheap out on ticket machines? Those are relatively cheap.

Yes it is a long walk. There are closer entries north of the station. Not sure about ticket machines, perhaps because of online tickets buying

@@ridetrainz Well you had to wait for that one ticket machine. So they should have at least one more. I just find it really strange that they spent $11 billion on this project, but they don't want to spend a few thousand more for ticket machines. Relying solely on online purchasing is a big weakness. McDonald's the other day lost $20 million in sales when the software for their ordering kiosks crashed worldwide, and they had no backup system. I could see something like that happening here. Even a simple cell phone outage could make it difficult if not impossible for people to buy tickets. It would create long lines at those ticket windows.
