Nick has such "evil doll in a movie" energy, Matteo is the teen babysitter who's played by a full grown adult, and we're all the child caught in the narrative.
I often think Matteo cant stop himself from commenting Nick's outfits because they are so awesome and he wishes he could pulled them off. Maybe im just talking about myself and proyecting into him 😅. That top was gorgeous.
Love how this turned more-so into art school and music school talk. As a former art college student, they were very right when they said the fine arts are more about LEARNING & experiencing. You don’t go there to make Picasso’s. You go to learn art history, techniques & tools you have available to make art, what you want to try to say with art, start to find your voice… oh I could go on. Suffice it to say: even five years felt like just the tip of the iceberg for fine arts and digital art school for me. But I loved it, still!
Most opera people/fans don't really talk about it because they know that 99% of the world hates their music. You just kind of get used to it. Matteo is the odd exception... he seems to have a musical theatre attitude towards opera.
This is not a diss to nick but Nick could have done literally nothing with his life and just lies and I could not tell the difference. He somehow knows nothing and yet can talk like he understands the subject until he slips up. I do want to hear him and Matteo sing together
I really, really appreciate that Nick isn't pretentious about his musical experience. I am a classically trained musician, but I couldn't pursue it professionally, because the pretentious attitudes that come with it completely ruins it.
I studied bassoon at Indian University in Bloomington, IN in the 80's. It's a HUGE music school with a strong focus on opera singers. SO MANY of my voice major friends would leave their lessons crying. I think it's a combination of the teachers being hard, but even more, just the dramatic nature of the opera students.... lol Our instrument teachers were hard too, but we didn't cry. LMAO
In my first year of music school to study opera performance, my accompaniast said something, just behind the curtain for a studio recital, like “your technique isn’t great, and you’re a weak person.” It was deliberate, meant to harden me. It did, years later. As a grad student in the (ha ha ha ha) highly lucrative field of literature, I had reconstructive facial surgery after a disfiguring accident and was expected by the best voice teacher I’ve ever had to keep the scheduled lesson, with gauze packed in my face. I kept the lesson. He was kind, maybe because he grew up in Siberia, and used the lesson for vowel focus and lack of resonant space. Voice teachers/coaches/ accompaniasts can be intentionally brutal and argue that the experience fortifies green performers. That approach didn’t work for me. What bolsters me now, as a person, is that I was told I could sing well, even if my face was damaged and my resonant spaces were full of gauze. No need to break a student. Life will break them. Insist they keep the lesson to let them see how strong they are.
Matteo singing "A Whole New World" in Nick's voice (at 10:55) ... the most hilarious, brilliant, nasally sound clip that I didn't know I needed. I laughed so hard I went into a coughing fit.
Yes to a Christmas show! Nick you can sing whatever you want. However, Matteo has to sing the crowd favorites such as: " I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas", "Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer", "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", "Redneck Twelve Days of Christmas, "The Chipmonk Song (Christmas Don't be Late"), and "Santa Baby".
A perfect duet for Matteo and Nick : "Au fond du Temple Saint" from Les Pecheurs de Perles . A beautiful friendship duet for a tenor and baritone. Id gladly pay for that .
Just me rushing to find the video of Nick singing? Bravo! 👏 This whole conversation resonates so much with me, I sang my whole life , I studied jazz while having rock bands and it the discipline, the theory and competition was hard but never regretted it! and I’m now a singer and singing teacher! Matteo you have range!!!
They are wonderful guys. I get a certain vibe from Matteo whenever Nick is around... "Nick?! How is it possible you can exist like this?!" Nick is the perfect muse for Matteo (and maybe Liza too.) 😁
Nick, my youtube algorithm brought up a video of you singing Vecchia zimarra, senti from a number of years ago and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. You sing beautifully ⭐️ Time for a baritone/bass duet🙏
OMG you two boys are so obviously IN LOVE! I mean, you even talk about each other when the other is not around (see other podcasts, etc). Jesus!... put a ring on it already!!! Adorable!!! Enjoy... enjoy. X -Daniel
I had a similar art school experience, I had little to no training before college and it unlocked so much love for it! I went to a trad college, and spent 97.4% of my time in the art building.
I would buy a ticket to see you. I’m sure there are many who would buy tickets. You should do it. Why don’t you combine music and comedy…. You are both so good at both!
I was about to say Nick’s choice of masters was just plain insanity but it seems to have led him to where he is today so praise Celine for this beautiful serendipity.
I'd go to that Christmas concert in a heartbeat - and I don't even like most Christmas music. Plus, Nick could wear the lovely blouse from this episode, it's got a very Christmassy vibe
Oh, I am so glad you guys did a 15 minute talk on opera. Nick, I have been waiting to hear you sing and use the beautiful voice and training. You have been blessed with. Mateo, I did not realize you were also trained, love that❤. I love so many genres of music. my daughters and I share the love of theater. I would encourage you to sing seriously for a few moments to bless us with what each of you have been given❣️ you both have a way of bringing light to darkness in this crazy place we live. I am so grateful that my daughter loves and listens to you both. she has been at your live shows. Christmas show? Absolutely… That would be fabulous! If we could not make it, but had a way to buy a ticket and watch it… Consider….🐶😻☮️✝️💜
Listened to this as the podcast and then tuned in to see nick’s shirt. Matteo’s impressions of nick around 11 mins in are so accurate I thought it was nick on the audio only version
I was a classical vocal performance major, and I, too, have forgotten how to breathe properly 😬 I didn't have formal lessons until I got to college, either... If I weren't so unfashionable and have such short legs, I'd feel like I might be Nick's twin.
As a classical musician, I know what Nick is talking about. It’s really easy to get jaded with the dynamics of the field. I know many super talented people who decided to earn a living outside of music, in order to preserve their love for it. As for myself, while it’s a struggle, I’m grateful that music is my passion and my job. I have tried other fields, but always wanted to get back to music
Ok so I'm an opera composer here and when saw this I clicked immediately and then the hesitant "um" being harmonized not even 30 seconds in...I've clicked on the right podcast
I am here for Matteo in that T-shirt... and of course the topic and Nick's schooling 🏫❤ I went to art school in NYC. The day I graduated i didn't have a clue as what do to for a profession...😮
i 100% agree with Nick. I wanted to be a music teacher because I loved music and was pretty good at it, but college really made me second guess things - honestly, I think it was a number of things, but a big thing was High School didn't prepare me well.
Haven't watched it yet gonna watch later but how much does Matteo sing in this hahaha... That man finds any excuse to sing I can't imagine when it's the actual topic
You guys should make a video of you two singing opera, but a funny parody of an opera song As I'm writing this I just remembered that Adam Sandler has already done this... but it'd be interesting to see with people who professionally sang
I went to an arts high school for theatre and I had the same experience as Nick. I started loving acting and by the end of school I pretty much never wanted to act on a stage again.
Mixing pods up now BUT regarding the Christmas Show, I would definitely watch that here or on the Patreon. Here’s the mix: Matteo is in Northern California, Sacramento mid-December and I believe Cathy Mitchell lives in Valley Springs about 1 hr away. Wouldn’t it be great if Matteo & crew could spend one day with Cathy in her studio kitchens in Valley Springs? Schedule it for Dec 13th the one day between shows. I am working on getting a contact for her to invite her to watch Matteo’s content on her work. Sorry for mixing my pods.. Love you two. Nick your version of Vecchia Zimmarra Senti was a tear jerker. So lovely and angelic 🕊️
I think this is the first episode where they stuck to the main topic for the whole 15 minutes 👏👏👏
Kudos tho, it takes trixie and katya 5 seasons to do that
Nick *IMMEDIATELY* retracting to make it known he did not accidentally give Matteo a compliment 😂😂😂. I mean…. it’s par for the course here
New Nick lore unlocked 🔓
Who knew?!
Because, of course he has a master's in opera. Why wouldn't he?! 🤣
It unlocks a dialogue option later
Nick fighting for his life to not sing and matteo poking him to sing was so funny
"just because youre singing when no one asks you to, doesnt mean youre singing" 🤣
that was one of my favorite lines here! :)
@@nomadchica
lol he trolled Matteo in one line🥰
Nick has such "evil doll in a movie" energy, Matteo is the teen babysitter who's played by a full grown adult, and we're all the child caught in the narrative.
As a broke person, would you be able to give up a clip of you two singing together? I would love to hear it. That duet is one of my favorites.
I also enjoy the opera Lakme.
Same 😭 I would love to see/hear it but I don't have that kinda throw away money to see one video lol
yes! this!
as a human with a degree in opera i DO not use, this tickled my every fancy - i freaking love y’all.
please god put on a christmas show
I often think Matteo cant stop himself from commenting Nick's outfits because they are so awesome and he wishes he could pulled them off. Maybe im just talking about myself and proyecting into him 😅. That top was gorgeous.
Nick’s gorgeous blouses aaaalways trigger Matteo’s internalized homophobia so fast I live
Best episode yet. I like seeing that each of you have depth.
“His virbraro is too fast. There I said it” never change Matteo
Nick's blouse is giving Lady Elaine Fairchilde from Mr Rogers 😂
I love her so much.
😂
YES
Bet.
Nick's being a bass is representation for all of us basses that are unclockable do to the gay voice

Why am I surprised that Nick has a master's in opera?!
Moi aussi.
Exact same
Most opera people/fans don't really talk about it because they know that 99% of the world hates their music.
Me too. But love the guy more and more. Never liked blouses, but Nick has good taste and pulls them off. No effort
I love the color of Nick's top today. It's a very flattering tone for his complexion.
Nick revealing his past has changed my entire world view.
That throwback shade on astrology just made me chuckle 😂
"Did I say he could do it well?"...Love you Nick you're too funny🤣😂😅
I really, really appreciate that Nick isn't pretentious about his musical experience. I am a classically trained musician, but I couldn't pursue it professionally, because the pretentious attitudes that come with it completely ruins it.
Me too! Your comment personifies my experience as well 😂

No need to break a student. Life will break them. Insist they keep the lesson to let them see how strong they are.
This was your best episode. I love hearing artists discuss their process and history.
I didn’t know that Nick was actually trained to do anything. Can’t wait to hear Lakme.
I love, love, love this! I would definitely want to see (and I'd pay) you two sing - Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah, whatever!
Maybe even Shrove Tuesday or Arbor Day?’
Matteo singing "A Whole New World" in Nick's voice (at 10:55) ... the most hilarious, brilliant, nasally sound clip that I didn't know I needed. I laughed so hard I went into a coughing fit.

My roomate saw me watching this and said "omg is that gilmore girls?" She thought nick was Loreli
As an opera singer this is the best thing ever!! Love you guys
Nick looked like a sick victorian child in his opera youtube video and now he simply look like the ghost of that child but yassified
Apt characterization.
Yassified 🤣
I *just* SANG
I live in Italy and would stay up all night need be just to hear Nick sing!
This might be the most serious conversation you've ever had.
omg 5:53... Nick having flashbacks to his lessons... the TRAUMA of Voice Teachers 🙃
Please please please post the duet! ❤
Love this podcast. I'm hoping to see Matteo in North Carolina in October
Matteo's voice is one of a kind. I would never have though he was a bass until I heard those low notes. Wow.
A perfect duet for Matteo and Nick : "Au fond du Temple Saint" from Les Pecheurs de Perles . A beautiful friendship duet for a tenor and baritone. Id gladly pay for that .
Just me rushing to find the video of Nick singing? Bravo! 👏
This whole conversation resonates so much with me, I sang my whole life , I studied jazz while having rock bands and it the discipline, the theory and competition was hard but never regretted it! and I’m now a singer and singing teacher! Matteo you have range!!!
WHOA!!!!! As a lifelong choir performer, I can confirm that Matteo can make his voice go REALLY deep, and still sound good. I'm kinda blown away here!
I find it amazing how different your singing voices and speaking voices are. It's fascinating.
I would so drive to NYC just to see you guys do a Christmas show. That sounds amazing!
The harmonizing after the Handmaid's Tale comment 😂😂😂
I just graduated from an art school a few months ago and yall perfectly summed up the experience
You two are delightful!
This is the most interesting discussion I've seen you have.
God damn, y'all keep getting better and better. Love to see it!
Living for the first seconds when Nick sets the timer.
OMG you two boys are so obviously IN LOVE! I mean, you even talk about each other when the other is not around (see other podcasts, etc). Jesus!... put a ring on it already!!! Adorable!!! Enjoy... enjoy. X -Daniel
I can only see them as old husband and wife with their podcast as a reboot of "The Bickersons," I swear.
Nick and Matteo do the Flower Duet from Lakmé?? This sounds nuts and makes my whole day.
So pumped to see you in P-Town!!! I’ve had to miss your shows for years and now can finally make one!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I had a similar art school experience, I had little to no training before college and it unlocked so much love for it! I went to a trad college, and spent 97.4% of my time in the art building.
I don't know shit about opera, but I'm excited to be serenaded by my favorites! From Squidward to opera! 😊❤
Love this! I was a music school student too (classical trombone though) I really felt you, Nick, on the "I don't know about doing all this for money"
Oh! I would pay money to see you guys do a Christmas music special! Seriously!
Nick: “Because I’m a monster.”
Nick 0.1 sec later: “hi everyone, we have a Patreon…plz give us money 🥺🥹”
😂
Oh hi, Nick. I totally forgot we were at MSM together. Lolz.
Watching this episode invoked a memory of my favorite aunts arguing at my cousin's wedding.
I would buy a ticket to see you. I’m sure there are many who would buy tickets. You should do it. Why don’t you combine music and comedy…. You are both so good at both!
Combining those is a good idea! Sort of high/low-ish culture.
I love seeing Nick talk in a serious way about opera. Woulda been nice for a little sample, but hey. I takes em where I can gets em.
Gotta acknowledge how many compliments Nick is throwing at Matteo in this ep, love the growth ❤
Yes I want a Christmas Concert Thank you!!
Listened to this as the podcast and then tuned in to see nick’s shirt. Matteo’s impressions of nick around 11 mins in are so accurate I thought it was nick on the audio only version
La La La LAAAAHHH! How are these two friends amazes me and entertains me all at the same time!
Not only would I buy tickets to a Christmas show, I'd even volunteer to be the west coast accompanist or conductor!
This is ironically a great introductory episode for you two! More lore discussion and no tangents!
Matteo is a music wizard. Nick is a music sorcerer.
I was a classical vocal performance major, and I, too, have forgotten how to breathe properly 😬
I didn't have formal lessons until I got to college, either... If I weren't so unfashionable and have such short legs, I'd feel like I might be Nick's twin.
So, sing on studio recordings!
I also majored in classical vocal performance, and I hate “supporting myself” with the diaphragm. If I’m singing for myself/for fun, I won’t do it 😂😂
As a classical musician, I know what Nick is talking about.
Opera? Matteo is going to be so insufferable and knowledgeable about this and I’m grateful ☺️
Ok so I'm an opera composer here and when saw this I clicked immediately and then the hesitant "um" being harmonized not even 30 seconds in...I've clicked on the right podcast
I'd have pictured Nick as M. Butterfly instead of The Barber of Seville! Nice conversation gentlemen.
Really enjoy you guys arguing about EVERYTHING LOL
I'm here for Nick's wardrobe 😊😂
Making Thursday better one episode at a time! 😂💙
I am here for Matteo in that T-shirt... and of course the topic and Nick's schooling 🏫❤ I went to art school in NYC. The day I graduated i didn't have a clue as what do to for a profession...😮
You guys are the light that cracks me up every time ❤
As always, Chris was the star of the show!
I just can't get enough! More Chris Please!
YES- Thursday just got better with this!
i 100% agree with Nick. I wanted to be a music teacher because I loved music and was pretty good at it, but college really made me second guess things - honestly, I think it was a number of things, but a big thing was High School didn't prepare me well.
Columbia College alum, here. We didn't need frats in the Downtown Chicago higher education scene. We had Cal's and the South Loop Club. lol
I was just watching the Simpsons and the topic reminded me of the waiters from the Singing Sirloin. Perhaps Nick and Matteo in another life..? 🤔
Only the real ones know the Singing Sirloin. 💯
Nick you sound so beautiful signing opera!
I could listen to them talk about their art & music school experiences for forever. But I'm biased bc I have BFA in Musical Theatre. 😅
Matteo, your voice was making my speakers reverberate. Really cool.
I would looove to see yall do a Christmas show!! But also Matteo singing old man river! 😂❤
I couldn't afford to travel to a concert, but I could afford to watch a Christmas concert on patreon, and I absolutely would!
Haven't watched it yet gonna watch later but how much does Matteo sing in this hahaha... That man finds any excuse to sing I can't imagine when it's the actual topic
the whole time i'm expecting nick to sing like a real note like matteo and nothing! cmon man sing! i'd pay for a ticket!
You guys should make a video of you two singing opera, but a funny parody of an opera song
As I'm writing this I just remembered that Adam Sandler has already done this... but it'd be interesting to see with people who professionally sang
I’m seeing Mateo in San Francisco in December so that would be the perfect time for a little Christmas music lol
I went to an arts high school for theatre and I had the same experience as Nick. I started loving acting and by the end of school I pretty much never wanted to act on a stage again.
My only thought when I saw the topic was "the girls are gonna fight!!!"
We can hear Matteo’s voice on the Patreon add this week! 😂
Mixing pods up now BUT regarding the Christmas Show, I would definitely watch that here or on the Patreon.
Here’s the mix: Matteo is in Northern California, Sacramento mid-December and I believe Cathy Mitchell lives in Valley Springs about 1 hr away. Love you two. Nick your version of Vecchia Zimmarra Senti was a tear jerker. So lovely and angelic 🕊️
Wow, that salt and pepper look on Matteo! Love the gray!
