    Regarding stomach issues, I found that when I was there eating mostly Romanian food and homecooked food, my stomach was fine; I haven't felt better! No preservatives, all fresh mostly farm to table. Once I came back to USA, back to problems. Can't wait to head back to my surrogate home! As far as restaraunts, Caru' cu Bere was very good in Bucharest. I cannot remember the name of the place in Brasov. All the other places I ate other than home and restaurants were at the farmers markets.

      @@TheAdventuringArtists
      In the following, i detail how it's made, if you're curious, and maybe will clear some of the "taboo"-ness off it. I haven't done it personally, but my grandma used to. As I recall:
      It's actually made from the stomach of the cow and it goes through multiple processes before getting in the ciorba:
      -after it's taken out, it's cleaned with water;
      -(even washed with limestone powder);
      -rubbed with something abrasive (like cracked corn or coarse salt) and brushed;
      -then it's kept in vinegar and baking soda (and possibly onion) to whiten it;
      -then it's boiled;
      -the inner membrane is removed (so that you only eat the muscle, not the membrane that was in contact with the contents of the stomach);
      -it goes through the above to get to this is the state (in which it's usually sold in stores);
      -when the actual stock for the soup is prepared, the stomach is boiled again, separately (even with multiple water changes);
      -they are only combined towards the very end when the sour cream, egg yolks and the final adjustments are made.
      Hope this helps brush some skepticism away.😁

      Ciorba de burta is such a mentality thing, literally the only thing staying in your way of trying it is your brain simply from knowing what it is. I've seen foreigners try it without knowing what it was and they said it was good and they even liked the sour taste of the broth, but once they were told, they were immediately disgusted. Similar to this, my aunt told me about a friend she had that tried fried frog legs. They told him it was chicken and he ate it all up, but once he found out it was frog, many months later actually, he instantly got so sick that he had to throw up. I mean, it's interesting how it's just all in our heads.

    Those are not intestines in the "Ciorba de burta", it is the very stomach wall of the cow.
    The translation would be "Stomach/Belly soup".
    Also, you can put a small spoon of vinegar to go with it. It is usually very fat.

    I so much appreciate people who appreciate my country - thank you very much. Just like you, I am also a gourmet, so I can give some advice and useful info:
    The tripe sour soup is in fact not intestines, it is beef stomach (muscle) and it is the one that goes perfectly with the hot peppers you got from the market, although I would have chosen the smaller ones, dark green and with some brownish stripes - those are REALLY hot. This type of soup also goes very well with a little sour cream and a little vinegar (one teaspoon for a portion) mixed inside and of course pretty warm (almost hot).
    You probably left Romania already, but here is a suggestion for the next time you’ll come - “The Dacians Farm” - it is not far from Bucharest and I see you don’t have to rent a car to get there, as you come in your van. Here is another gourmet, Mark Wiens, who was there and was blown away (just a preview of what would have waited for you there):
    ua-cam.com/video/kd0FRDkHqPc/v-deo.html
    As for prices, a few years ago they used to be at maximum one quarter from what they are now. You guys are a little late, but you know what they say - better late than never … I am positive you don’t regret one second.
    Thank you very much.
    Salutations from a Romanian brother …

    Ciorba de burta is actually made with stomach, not intenstines and if maybe it felt a bit off it's because we usually season it with vinegar/garlic sauce (mujdei) to taste right before eatining it.

    17:37 Sarmale can also be eaten with sour cream above them. Some restaurants gives ya sour cream (to put it yourself) ..but some others (like from that place from the video) don't / didn't 😁 Sour cream is excellent on sarmale especially if your sarmale are hot or warm and the sour cream is cold-ish. Tastes pretty good togheter but can also make the sarmale less hot 😁 (if they were cooked recently or warmed up by them). Next time if you revisit Romania and eat ,,sarmale'' again ..try with sour cream too 😉

The Romanian hospitality is off the charts- my favorite European country to visit (much cheaper than other European countries). And I almost forgot- the best deserts I've had in 20+ countries I've visited so far. They're not very sweet which means you can savor all the ingredients a lot more. I miss Romanian food so much!

    La Mama used to be great, but we tried it last year and earlier this year and it's just not the same.
    Hanul lui Manuc is to be avoided as well.
    On your next trip ask the locals if there are any events in the parks in Bucharest. We tried the food in Parc IOR, from a sort of a pop-up restaurant and it was amazing (traditional Romania food).
    Did you try the covrigi? It's the plain pretzel.
    If you want coffee, next time try "The Coffee Shop". They have a few around town, but the one we like the best is on Mosilor, not too far from Obor

    They gave you bread near those ciorbe / ciorbas 😁
    Usually romanian people loves eating bread ..so we tend to eat bread (bites) when eating ciorba too.
    (same goes for mici ..we also take some bread bites) 😁

    In case you plan to come again by van, go to a supermarket and buy canned sarmale & varieties of ciorba (I only buy the Scandia Sibiu brand). Helps you stay on budget, no fridge is needed to keep them unless opened & they taste really good. Add fresh herbs, sour cream or Greek yogurt.

    the tripe soup in Romania is usually eaten with some sour cream and garlic&vinegar based garnish or some fresh hot green chilli. to make the overall food a little bit more sour and spicy. that's when all the amazing flavour punches your mouth and tastes amazing.
    as a Romanian I like tripe soup but I don't eat the intestines.
    I basically use a filter to seperate the soup from meat whenever my mom cooks tripe soup.

    3:03 Best paired with a Romanian beer ..... and then it says "Tuborg" on the cup. :D But, ok, maybe they had a surplus of cups they had to use up one way or another. :)
    5:19 If you wanted to save money, you could've taken the metro (subway) from Obor to Old Town. Take line M1 from Obor station towards Pantelimon/Republica, get off at Piata Victoriei (Victory Square), switch to line M2 towards Berceni and get off at Piata Unirii -- and, boom, you're right in the Old Town. A single-ride ticket is only 3 lei ($0.65 / €0.60). :) Even cheaper with a 10-trip card (20 lei, so 2 lei per trip, or $0.45 / €0.40). :)
    5:50 Hanu lui Manuc does have good food, but it's correspondingly overpriced. It's worth straying from the tourist traps and try some of the hidden gems, e.g. the restaurant Bucătărașul. They have a variey of lunch menus for 25 lei ($5.50 / €5.00). If you're really on a budget, I can also suggest the student canteens associated with the universities / higher education institutions in Bucharest. Although primarily aimed at, well, students, they _are_ open to the general public as well. You can easilyu score a bowl of soup, main course, side and drink for less than 10 lei ($2.20 / €2.00). Here's one, just to give you an example: social.ase.ro/cantina/ :) In similar vein, there're also several canteens in the business areas of the city, e.g. Preciziei or Pipera. Close to the metro, too, so you won't be completely in the arse end of the city, hehehe. :)
    10:28 Props for trying, but _bună ziua_ is pronounced more like "BOON-uh ZEE-wa". :)
    11:35 Ufff...electric scooters. The plague and scourge of Bucharest. The locals riding them always think they own the sidewalk (yeah, they don't even bother keeping themselves on the road) and have no hesitation whatsoever to zoom past you, or furiously ring the bell a la "get off the sidewalk, dumb pedestrians!". And the rest of us just have to jump aside and run for our lives. :(
    14:12 _Ciorbă_ is in fact a loanword from Ottoman Turkish (çorba), which itself comes from Persian šōrbā. You'll find it in several other languages, e.g. South Slavic чорба (čorba) or Russian шурпа (šurpa). Tripe soup is not a uniquelz Romanian dish -- in Polish, for example, it's flaki and can be served in a variety of ways, e.g. in chicken broth, or in a tomato-peppery sauce. :)

      Real traditional food it’s not only in Maramures ,it’s in fact all over the country ,every region has its own traditional food which differs from region to region ,to say that food in Maramures it’s more traditional or better it’s wrong ,not to mention that even the traditional food it’s cooked differently in different parts of the country !

    Man, you are very nice. I laughed heartily when I saw you eating raw peppers!:))) I like that you're popular and not one of those with your nose up. If I could give a piece of advice. Avoid the city centers, they are expensive and you don't see the true value of a people. If you have the opportunity, go to the villages. We say that "eternity was born in the village". There you will eat truly traditional food, much more than what is available in the city. Romanians are warm people and you will surely have pleasant memories sprinkled with a lot of alcohol (palinca, wine, beer):))
