To this day, it still blows my mind how Christian Linke, one of the co directors of Arcane, wrote and sang Curse of the Sad Mummy, is basically the reason League music videos and themes exists, and that he started out from Riot Support.
Riot really knows how to scout new talent and get the best out of them

When imagine dragons made enemy for arcane, they where first shown bits of the art, story arc, story premise and character designs, and that made them fired up to work on it and put themselves into their craft

For me, Get Jinxed was my first LoL song. I remember listening to it on the bus to intermediate school in 2015. Forever my favorite LoL song. I guess I was one of the annoying "I've been here since day one" people for Jinx. Then, Arcane came out and everyone was a Jinx fan.
I feel that. As someone who started League in Season 1, Jinx was one of my go tos when she was released. Now it's so normal to say you're a Jinx fan. So I get it XD

Typically the music videos they make are either to introduce a new skin line (K/DA and Pentakill) or to pump the players up for worlds (Rise, Phoenix, Warriors, etc), so that's probably why a lot of them sound similar: they serve a specific purpose. They do make animated shorts that dive into the lore of the champions that are just as well animated, so Jonas could check those out of he's interested.
Yes, the curse of the sad mummy is an example of one that's more of an animated short! Generally there is also the hype "it's a new year and time for a new adventure" song

@@ness576 Yeah I hated that. League music really isn't made to have unique beats like other songs are. It's the lyrics that hit hard. And a lot of references. Like Faker almost always being in the worlds videos. Like ignite actually having real games in the video (with highlights you remember from the games), and songs like the cursed mummy ofc that really hits home if you know a little lore.

When you play League, there's so much in these songs. First of all, because they are characters you can play in League, so there are links to their lore and their ingame abilities in the lyrics and clips. For the Worlds musics, there are also links to professional players, events that have happened in previous competitions, their favourite champions with whom they have marked the competitive scene. Riot Games' songs/videos are cool... but when you're a gamer they're even more enjoyable !

I think the key point is these are anthems. The point is that it’s one step away from being the same song every year. It’s a really cool way of being fresh but keeping the same feel. I think that’s why stare walking is not as well received, it needed more brass and gusto.
Star Walkin' and Ignite by Zedd were great songs but not so great Worlds theme songs. Still I grew to love them.
Riot does such absolutely astounding work on everything except the game, lol. The animation in particular blows my mind every time with the world class level it’s always at.

for the amumu song they didnt like the out of tune piano , but the out of tune piano was intentional because it was based on amumus theme where everything arround him is cursed , the out of tune piano was intentionally put there to add a deaper detail in the music.

Lightbringer is my fav song from Pentakill and the acoustic version is just chef's kiss. But I'm a sucker for acoustic versions I don't know why.

I think what makes the song great is that the stories is about the characters, players and story we know. So the theme make it all more relatable and enjoyable, which gives more to the whole song

You mentioned loving Arcane but you missed that the Jinx song you reacted to is actually played in Arcane. Jinx vibes to it while doing some tinkering while Silko is freaking out behind her. It's such a mood lol

The whole video was a disaster. I felt that if there was someone with them to explain the story and characters they would have appreciated more some of the songs and not totally miss the point. Even the music references they made were mostly weak and unfounded.

I wish they were given a little more context for the different songs. Like "these specific ones all sound the same" yeah, because most of those ones were made for worlds championship. Also, missing literally all the season start music? Which not only has a totally different (more soundtrack/instrumental sounding with strings and a voice or two on top) vibe but also slaps in its own right? Also, what about non-league (valo/other arcane than just enemy) music? Definitely lots of music here to do a part two.
I think this is the first time they didn't have Imagine Dragons do the theme for Worlds. Got Lil Nas X this time and it's great.

IG only did one WORLDS song, it's not cool they gave this year's WORLDS song to a generic pop producer that makes music that fades into obscurity, and then treat it like it's the first and best thing they ever did. Lil Nas was the wrong choice for WORLDS this year, should have been the performance song.

@@MagiciteHeart If you watch Arcane - behind the scene series (5 videos) on LoL chanel, you will know Riot game have their own producer, composer for Worlds anthem. Their teams are super talented.
Pentakill is just a normal band for me, I was pretty blown away as I started playing League and found out that it's Riots first band. By now they got 3 Albums and so much variety in every song. Sometimes it's even core, pretty good stuff
A lot of the impact of these songs comes from the lore. For example as we fall is about the creation of varus who is a playable character in the game. It’s a really sad story and the song actually tells the story quite well.
Fun fact: Riot Games has launched an album of copyright-free lo-fi music designed for online creators.

I feel like it's important to know that this is all part of a massive universe and everything here means something in the game. The music videos are related to the characters and their stories.
Sometimes they're also related to the pro players of the game and their accomplishments or mistakes. Like when you see the guys being haunted by a character, it's because this character cost them a title or they made a misplay while playing it in a very important match in the past.
For us nerds who play the game, it is insanely engaging. Guaranteed chills when they put this much time and effort (and money) into telling their / our story.
Yeah I love the hype behind each year worlds song, and love to see all the Easter eggs that appear on video
If you wanna make part 2 I recommend Awaken, Warriors as the newer version what they did, Burning Bright, The Call, Bring Home the Glory. Some of my favorites
I love these songs, I didn't even know they existed, so thanks for this video! I feel like you should make a video about the entire Arcane soundtrack, as that's just as insane, they hired all these amazing people to write songs for them, for example I just love Sting's What Could Have Been
'As We Fall' definitely gets better when you have context of the full character. Some songs just end up sounding a lot better when you are aware of the inevitable tragedy it details. Personally didn't like the song at first, but once I checked out the lore, I listened to the song again and it was a much better experience.
thats how i feel about the curse of the sad mummy, if you dont know about amumu beforehand and are just focused on the music i feel like it can be kind of underwhelming and not very impactful.

I think what makes some of the songs good when they aren't like lyrically or musically that amazing compared to others is the story or lore behind it. Like "As We Fall" is not that musically great but the lore and story behind it gets me every time.
Phoenix is actually one of my favorite videos of theirs, but that is because it connects with a lot of my personal struggles over the last few years. Learning to continue to trust yourself through challenges, essentially. Very relevant to my life.
Get Jinxed is so good, and very fitting for the character. KDA have definitely been pretty stellar since their first hit, I hope we do get more of them.
Part 2 with valorant this time, would be epic

I think the actual character music is way better than the poppy promotional stuff. Every champion they release to the game has their own theme which is usually really good.
Definitely needs a part 2, you guys missed a lot of good tracks like Everything Goes On, The Call, Warriors (2020 version), What could've been, Playground and a whole bunch of other Arcane songs, remaining K/DA songs etc. There's also a lot of champion themes that are great too.
Plus things like the Valor at songs. There all pretty good too

I love these songs and highkey listen to them A LOT - especially for motivation in studying LOL. Makes you feel like you are a protagonist and an absolute badass, and pushes me to keep trying. Just an interesting fact: arcane was so big that in China they had a whole theme song for it. It's called gu yong zhe by Eason Chen, and it's also absolutely incredible! Not sure if Joel will ever see this comment, but if he does I hope he can react to the song because it's also an extremely powerful and fantastic one.
I hate listening to Amumu’s song, it makes me cry. You have no idea how much I bawled my eyes out the first time I heard and saw the MV. Poor guy just want a friend.

for the metal part its called pentakill and it was the first band type content they made like k/da they have 2 more albums and the 3th one was amazing
I think it's kinda important to remember that most of the times, these songs are released a year apart from each other, so the fact that they sound kinda the same is not something bad. Actually, I think that when we get something different, the fanbase rejects it, like with the Lil Nas X song.

I'm not saying that the song is bad or good. It's just that there is this specific "aesthetic" that people expect.

well phoenix is one of those songs that ppl always think it's meh the first time and then it gets more and more epic the more you listen to it, especially when you learn of the backstories of the featured players and how well they fit with the lyrics

There are champion specific songs that feel like the character (ex. Amumu's song and Jinx's song). Then there are songs that are seasonal aka the championship songs and cinematics. There are also bands/ groups in league of legends. KPOP, Metal, Hip-hop etc. Some songs are champion/character skin specific like the star guardian songs. It is interesting how they can make music and have it relate to so many different things. They have championship hype songs to sad tales and they all pretty much make sense.
Petition for a second part. There are more songs which really hits right....

Yeah, at one point they even started to complain about all the Worlds songs sounding "samey" and I was just waiting for Worlds Collide to show up being completely different. And then it just didn't show up. Also Awaken is definitely top tier stuff.

As we fall always gets me emotional and the call makes me feel i had just learned my fate and I have to embark on journey to face it.
Fun fact: Christian Linke, the co creator of Arcane, composed and sung Amummu's song and was a former member of the German rock band Panik, which probably added some gravitas when pitching Arcane to his bosses at Riot. There's a funny tweet about him recording the 'scream' in that song on a Sunday when nobody was in the office so nobody freaked out thinking he was being tortured.
One of my favorite Riot Games songs is "Playground" by Bea Miller for Arcane series.

These songs are all so much more impactful if you know the characters (both League characters and League players) that are being portrayed. Several of the songs are absolute Jams and get me hyped AF and seeing the videos absolutely intensifies the feeling. Especially love the Worlds songs and the intense meaning in the videos, not mention the genius inclusion of the players on their most well known champions/champions they played in previous Worlds tournaments.
Idk if it has allready been said, but: The songs that you guys said remind you of Imagine Dragons, are usually the songs they use for Worlds (Lil Nas X did the one for this year) they are to hype us up for the World championship every year and kinda always have the same(ish) vibe.
The songs from KD/A and Pentakill are a in game pop group (KD/A) and a heavy metal band (Pentakill). The lore behind the groups are really fun and last year they came with an amazing new album for pentakill imo. They also did an online concert kinda thing, was really well thought of.
Might be fun for you guys to dive in to the lore behind the groups and listen to more songs (Lightbringer is one of my favourites)

I don’t really like it but that’s probably mostly because I had to listen to the instrumental version 100 times in game before I went to UA-cam and checked the full version out and hearing something with lyrics you didn’t know it had for the first time is pretty weird

A) The song is way too long (clocking in at 8 minutes I think), making it really unfit for just a short look into it
B) The song really shines in contrast to the rest of the album as a piece of orchestral metal. On its own it's actually not that great (unless you're familiar with the League lore)
C) The song REALLY shines when you try and map it onto the story of the Ruination, with the climax of the song coming in right before it ends. The climax itself doesn't hit even remotely as hard without the buildup though, because the song itself tells a story.
D) Fun easter egg for anyone who isn't familiar with Riot too much and maybe reading this: Some of these songs feature the "theme" songs of certain characters from the game as Leitmotifs or something similar. The Blade of the Ruined King song is actually featured in the theme song of the Ruined King character as they both straight up just use the exact same climax to tell the exact same story. Goosebumps all over when it hits (for me, obviously your mileage may vary).

That guy who was animated in most of their Worlds' songs is Faker.
The most successful player of all time and also changed the way people played the game in the early days and inspired many to pick it up and go pro. He is a living legend in the Pro gaming scene and a God of this game so to speak

The remix from Carpenter Brut of "Phoenix" is insanely good btw. This has exactly the "edge" that is missing in the original
All of these songs are literally my favorite songs that I've listened to on repeat for the past three years straight. I don't listen to them as often, but everytime I hear any of them all the dopamine starts flowing. I know they all sound pretty similar, but I guess I have a type... My favorite is GIANTS by True Damage, but Misfit Toys is a close second.

Cool thing about the Legends Never Die one is that the characters in the video are actually training, and getting stronger - it has more impact when you've played the game but yeah it's dope.

@@simplyepic3258 they hyped it up for ages only for it to be the same kind of event we've had in the past, the story for the event was rushed and cliche, and the rewards completely broke towards the end of the event so they gave them out for free meaning people worked towards them for nothing
I was surprised at how much I ended up loving the soundtrack for Arcane, every single song really grew on me. Especially Guns for hire, easily my favourite. Hearing that along with the scene it plays over never gets old ❤
It is interesting because some of these songs are from alternate universes where the champions are is music groups such as pentakill, kda and true damage. where as the others are mostly ffrom the standard game. It is why some are backing tracks to epic animations and others are performances. Also the guy you said was a really good player the third time was wrong but the first two was faker pretty much undeniably the greatest league of legends pro of all time.
The missing part into you going of analyzing the songs themselves, is that these songs are indeed like a wedding cake, layers upon layer of a lot more then just the song, its about the characters they represent, the players in them, the story around the game crossed with reality, its like taking everything and mixing it up into a very well or pretty good animation with a pretty good or very good song. Riot hits money with these, cause it invokes a lot of feelings for anyone who follows the game, the competitive scene, that has hundreds of hours played with some of these characters. See them come alive and celebrated in these songs makes the hit
I love Zedd's early work, and despite Ignite being from around that same time, I can tell he didn't try very hard on it.
honestly, i'm a zedd fan, so when i saw zedd and league together, i was excited. but it was kind of a letdown. i can enjoy it, but i will say it's not one of the strongest songs (though it does hit about midway, the first half was a bit less strong)
Them screaming "GIVE US THE ANIME" on the Burn It All Down MV is a mood.😂😂 I would literally watch that 😭

"Legends never die" and "Phoenix" are both extremely legendary. Definitely both songs that already entered the hall of fame! Every Gamer does know those songs!

It's crazy how Riot, a game developer/publisher company, put a lot of efforts into their songs, arguably more than what they put into their games

amongst all of the songs, KDA Popstar, Enemy, Villain, TD are my fav especially Villain..
that song is crazy good, and if u listen to it with headphones on sounded a bit creepy with the voice circling u + the 2 voices..
The worlds theme's are great, but i personally enjoy the music from the cinematics, Warrior (the 2wei and Edda Hayes cover of Imagine Dragons), The Call, and Awaken, i love to see their toughts on those and throw Star Walkin' in there since it wasn't included in this video

You should check out more of the champion themes. That's where the creative team gets more creative liberties. Also, they attempt to capture the vibe of specific champions, so there's more variation.

even tho im 11 months late i will say it anyways. the first song are for Worlds - a LoL tournament and all of those Worlds songs are motivational to motivate the players before the tournament
