This took place at Tushino Airfield outside Moscow , the only place big enough to hold the crowd estimated to be 1.6 million people ! The song is about the Story of Moses and the 10 Plagues in the bible . Metallica are James Hetfield rhythm guitar and vocals , Lars Ulrich Drums , Kirk Hammett lead guitar and backing vocals , current bassist is Robert Trujillo , in this video the bassist is Jason Newstead who replaced Cliff Burton after Cliff was killed in a freak tour bus accident when the band was on tour in Sweden supporting the Master of Puppets album on Sept 27 1986. #RIPCliff

Yes, Passover is what the song is about. The movie The Ten Commandments is what it was inspired by. Lambs blood painted door, I shall pass...Passover. Which is relevant for both Jewish and Christian faiths. Awesome song, like the movie. Alot of passion and drama

Every time he saw more of the crowd I was dying. Tears were rolling down my face. The first time I ever saw Metallica live was Monsters of Rock, 1988. As they were leaving the stage my brother yelled, "James Hetfield!" He turned to us and waved. I snapped a picture. It was awesome. I saw them live 4 more times afterwards. All during the 80's and 90's.

@@traceeseventyone9040 I saw them 3 times between 89 and 91. There aren’t too many artist in history that out as much effort into their shows as Metallica. They seriously do all they possibly can do to make their fans happy and give them an experience they can’t forget. Each time I saw them, they played hard, and pretty much non stop for 2 hours and left the stage. The crowd hit louder and louder after they left the stage. They were off stage for about 10 minutes, probably changing into some dry clothes, catching their breath, and pounding some cold beers, except for Lars, who most likely, based on what everybody knew at the time, was chopping up and taking a few gaggers of the pure Colombian straight to the head.(don’t care, won’t judge, his business.
Enough of us in the crowd knew that if we could keep the energy and decibel level high enough, for long enough, we would get an encore. Holy shit! All three times I saw them, they came out and played an encore for at least another half hour and played ferociously. I’ve never seen a band put so much effort and energy into a show. They did that thousands of times all over the world. They deserve any accolades and praise they get.
World class performers of master class music and unmatched work ethic.

Should watch this again on sunday, this is the heaviest metal sermon you'll get.... it's the book of Exodus up to Passover, just from the viewpoint of the angel of death sent to ruin the Egyptians.
It's literally a heavy metal bible story.

One thing you need to realise is that metal at that time had 0 talentless musicians period. Every member of each band was a master of his or her craft. Also we had no tricks like auto tune. Being at a gig was a real pleasure and privilege. As for memories, I'm now 47 I will take them memories to the grave with me. They where the best days of my life.

It stars Charleston Heston as Moses and Yul Brenner as Ramses. You should see the movie and the listen to this song again. Because it's the movie told from the perspective of death itself.

Personal fave is Harvester of Sorrow. You could *feel* the band had cranked it to Eleven, and ripped the [bleep]ing knobs off. 🤟

Revenue- no my friend- this was a free concert. A collection of metal/hard rock bands being the first bands from the free world allowed into Russia! Epic event. This was the free worlds welcome to the Russian people to freedom. Western culture was banned from these people for years. Most probably had no idea what they were in for!

Ah, the story of the Jewish deliverance from being slaves in Egypt to after 40 years of wandering the desert and founded Israel. In a nutshell: Creeping Death is the story of the Jewish holiday Passover and the creeping death was the 10th and final plague that G-D beset upon the Pharaoh "Death of the first born sons of Egypt". It was the death of the Pharaohs son that convinced him to free the slaves after 9 other plagues and to Leave with Moses. The story doesn't end there, but it's the first thing I play at my Seders! :)

Songs are dark yea. But their really cool guys. Their new bass player is a Native American Mexican mix. He's bad azz. They just find energy (it's so complex stuff, and they have ballads too.) Just good guys and a great band.

lol it's in the title of the video my guy, they're in Moscow. This is right after the USSR/Soviet Union had fallen. There is between 1mill-1.7million ppl in the crowd. Also this song is about the Story of Moses/Angel of Death from the Angel of Death's perspective. My favorite Metallica song by far, Blackened and And Justice for All are close 2nd and 3rd tho

Thank you brother for reacting to that song. The song is written about the Bible story of god coming after the pharaoh and his people after Moses came and the plagues were sent by god. Last resort was that the destroyer came to take them but went by the houses with lambs blood painted on the doors. Check out the lyrics and the scripture it’s pretty cool and an epic song of that day

In case you didn’t know what this song is about, it’s about the Old Testament story of when the Angel Of Death aka Creeping Death was sent by God to kill the first born child of every family including Pharaoh’s. The only way a child would get spared is by painting their door with lamb’s blood so the Angel of Death will just pass by them.
