I've come to the party a little late, Alex, but finding your series on the ATEM Mini / Pro super useful, especially the level of detail, clarity and tying up loose ends. You mention using mobile apps as software controllers, also mobiles over wifi. I wonder if you could do an episode specifically on this topic?
This is really helpful! So in theory, instead of buying the network switch, can I just use my orbi router which has multiple ports to do everything you are doing? You only are using the switch to allow for one less cable running across your desk is that correct?
Hey Matt, yes if your router has multiple Ethernet ports in it, just connect one up to your ATEM and then other to your computer. Or connect one to your ATEM and then connect your Mac/PC via WiFi to your router. Both will work fine, and you will be able to control your ATEM over the network :)
I like I like!!! The option to use many devices to control it is extra cool, having a wireless option but phone is dope if doing solo live and setting up away from the computer setup is fantastic.

The diagram made things much clearer. My only question, 'Shouldn't the AMP be able to connect to the internet via the ethernet without having the imac and macbook pro connected via ethernet cable?
Exactly. This is what I wrote to Black Magic. You should be able to stream to the internet without having both PC/Mac and AMP connected to the same network (either through router). I have to bridge connection when I connected my AMP to my laptop direct without router before I was able to stream on to the internet. Shouldn't the AMP automatically use my laptop's internet when connected to it through Ethernet port. You wouldn't take the router to the field if you have to stream an event, would you?

Really glad you're finding the videos useful :) You are correct. The ethernet port on the ATEM Mini only allows for control and does not send a video feed to your control device. The same applies for the ATEM Mini Pro, except it uses the internet connection you provide via the ethernet port to live stream at an RTMP destination. So, with that being said, you're correct that for something like ZOOM you would need to use the USB-C as a webcam output, and therefore can't record from the USB-C at the same time sadly. BUT, you could run something like OBS on that same computer and record the feed in that! Re Workarounds - I wonder if you you to live stream from the ATEM Mini Pro via RTMP to an RTMP Server running on your computer, and then use a virtual webcam to get that into Zoom. The same applies for the ATEM Mini Pro, except it uses the internet connection you provide via the ethernet port to live stream at an RTMP destination. PS Glad you liked the video!
Like your videos, very clear and concise. You should do a video on how to live stream with the mini pro, and make it clear that this is the main difference between the mini and mini pro's ethernet port. The plain mini will not live stream on ethernet

Two main season I recommend using the network for control rather than USB-C: 1) Flexibility and redundancy as with the network you can have multiple devices control the ATEM at once. 2) For ATEM Mini Pro users, it free's up the USB-C port for recording to an external hard drive. I really hope this video has helped! Any questions, just put them below :)

Hi from Puerto Rico! I learn this from you some month ago and now I can use the USB from the Atem Mini Pro to record in a SSD drive and can use an Atem Streaming Bridge to hava an extra HDMI OUT for other things. However, I try to do this same network using a ATT Netgear HotSpot (that has a LAN connector) instead the home router and does not work. I want to have the option to creat a network on location. Is that possible?
regarding the network connection via ethernet from the router to the atem: why does the laptop needs to be connected to the router via cable so the software can recognize the atem? Shouldn´t be the wifi-connection to the laptop be sufficient since both machines are on the same IP this way already?
I have the same question?
Alex! Was wondering if you had any insight on adding ethernet cameras on the network to Atem Mini camera inputs as sources that are switchable. Thanks for your help and insight!
Hey Raymond, sadly this isn't a feature with the ATEM Mini yet. You're only able to bring cameras in over HDMI / SDI at this time. Hope this helps
Great video! It worked wired and wirelessly, but i am not getting no internet connection nomore. My switch is getting internet from my router so im trying to figure out why it isnt working. Or its not possible to do this along with getting internet connection?
Once I've setup the Atem mini pro iso on the network switcher can I connect NDI cameras to the switcher and connect/control them without using the hard wired HDMI inputs
Hey Alex, great video thank you.
Atem mini pro on the network and a client with one computer who wants to be able to use the control software and program view. Possible?
Using ethernet instead of USB-C, does it recognize the Atem as an external webcam... for using in a Skype or Zoom call? Thanks for the vídeo... much clear using a switcher!!!
Hey good question. Unfortunately not, the ethernet port on the ATEM Mini only allows for control and does not send a video feed to your control device. The same applies for the ATEM Mini Pro, except it uses the internet connection you provide via the ethernet port to live stream at an RTMP destination.
PS Glad you liked the video!
@@AlexPettitt I am having a problem with this. Could you please walk through for me on this. Thanks Alex
Like your videos, very clear and concise. You should do a video on how to live stream with the mini pro, and make it clear that this is the main difference between the mini and mini pro's ethernet port. The plain mini will not live stream on ethernet
4:27 Atem Mini shows but does not connect. ATEM and Mac Book (Pro M1) are connected to the same network via Ethernet (no Wifi). An ideas for trouble shooting?
Great Video and Explanation. May I ask what the tool for the presentation (mind map) you used was?
LOVE your videos friend. Since you're asking for video suggestions, I'm wondering if you could make a SUPER simple for absolute beginners, best practices kind of video.
You can add four HDMI Embedders which gives you 6 stereo Audio inputs or four mono + 4 stereo inputs. In combination with one of the cheap multichannel Behringer mixers with line out option it is not only a pretty powerful little camera switcher but also a powerful audio tool.
The Black Magic connected to Canon 800d any help connecting the devices and will different cannon cameras like 800d and 750d work with the mini at the same time please ...
can you use the webcam posibility of the atem on your macbook, when it‘s connected over the lan cable to your network. and use then the usb-c port on the atem to record on an external ssd drive?
I can see the ATEM mini listed on the software, but it won't connect to it as you show in the video. Any thoughts or fixes.
Does one need a network switcher to power this whole setup effectively with ethernet? and if so, which network switcher do you recommend?
Hi alex I have the atem mini and I wanted to set it up through obs I tried to do this following your video but I'm getting nothing at all ? 2 webvam cameras and a soundsource from my dj controller but no sound and no picture? If I use the webcam on there own and my soundsource direct into my laptop all work fine! Obviously it must not br setup properly but I'm not having any luck at all....can you help? 😢
Any way to use the atem as a webcam througgh Ethernet? Or does it have to be the usb c to see it in OBS. And can you stream with it but also use it as a webcam
I was about to ask the same question
Thanks for the content! I have an Atem Mini and will be connecting it via my local network. Do I still need the usb connection for streaming software like vmix?
How can I see the multi camera view on the Mac book ?! Do I need to use a separate Mac book for it ?! Or can use the same one for the software control as well as multi view ?
Two main season I recommend using the network for control rather than USB-C: 1) Flexibility and redundancy as with the network you can have multiple devices control the ATEM at once. 2) For ATEM Mini Pro users, it free's up the USB-C port for recording to an external hard drive. I really hope this video has helped! Any questions, just put them below :)
Thank you !!!
Quick question ? Is there an a way to view Multi-view through an app via the Internet ?
@@Snailmale7 There is, but it would require taking the HDMI output from the ATEM Mini Pro into a capture card on another computer and then bringing that into something like Zoom for example. Bit janky, but would technically work
Alex Pettitt Thanks ! I’ll stay with plan A - hdmi into a TV
@@AlexPettitt I wonder if there's a device you can get that would take that feed and broadcast it over the network? Kinda like via NDI. Maybe that could work. Or maybe create a video feed visible over a web browser through say "[your IP]/ndi.html" - any ideas on those?
Thank you, Alex. I learn a lot from you videos recently. I am using ATEM Mini Pro with the ethernet. The connection was good, but when I tried to do UA-cam livestream, it still remained as offline. I am using Window 10. Using it with Macbook Pro has no problem though.
The device you use to control the ATEM Mini Pro with will have no impact on the RTMP stream output as this is handled on the ATEM Mini Pro itself. So I’d say the issue may be with your internet’s upload speed or your live stream settings maybe? Hope this helps
Much appreciated Alex, great explanation thanks
Hi, is there a way to get the Atem Mini Pro iso into OBS over the network connections. Thanks
@alex pettitte
Hi I like your video, please can you send me a link to the lights you used in the background.
Thanks in advance
Thanks @AlexPettitt for this. I've tried the workflow with my AMP ISO and is working but I can't connected to OBS via ethernet, and I need the usb to record the ISO channels. Any tip on how to connect the atem mini pro iso via ethernet to obs? thanks
Will using the Ethernet cable method allow OBS to communicate with the ATEM mini PRO like the USBC method does?
The Atem doesn't like some computers and the program has a flicker when the computer is switched to . Can I use ethernet from the computer to have a full screen on the Atem without the flicker? thanks in advance!!
I'm struggling with the ethernet connection. (1) I have an unmanaged Netgear switch but can't connect; i don't really want a router because someone else is leading the Zoom Meeting on their laptop, (2) does it need to use CAT 6? thank you
There is POE splitter and power that is connected to POE switch... can i use that and power the ATEM with it instead using the power supply adapter? ...
Awesome video :) Can it be like this.... ATEM mini Pro is connected via Ethernet cable & your Macbook is connected to the router via wifi ?. Thanks :)
Great question
Looking to make this purchase and needing to know about connectivity with NDI devices over the network
Hi Patrick, it's not possible unless you look to purchase NDI to HDMI decoders. The ATEM Mini has no NDI capabilities built in. Hope this helps
great help thanks Dave
Have you tried using laptop internet to use to live stream?
Also have you tried using the phones internet to hotspot on laptop then using the atem to stream?
Hi Alex, thanks for the video! What ports does the ATEM Mini Extreme SDI use? Is it UDP9910?
Whoa! great.
Do you have any recommendation to be able to connect long distance cameras to the Atem mini? We're struggling with hdmi long cables. The Atem just detect 1 50ft hdmi cable.
Cheers (again) Alex!
I was wondering if I could direct connect from the Atem Mini Pro Ethernet port to a USB Ethernet adapter to my MacBook Pro. I was shocked I could do this and the Software Control recognized it. Frees up my USB C port on the Atem for a SSD for recording.
I play Drums and do multicam. So can I just connect a SanDisk SSD Eternal drive to the Atem mini pro iso directly ? Then after recording my drum song, disconnect the SanDisk drive from ATEM , then connect SanDisk to my Apple M2 Mac Mini to use Black Magic software to edit my angles , etc ?
Thanks Alex! which app do you use on iPhone to control the Mini Pro?
I'm pretty sure Strata can, although I will point out I haven't tested this yet...but I see no reason why it shouldn't
I use atemosc on the mac and TouchOSC on the iPhone. Works Fine.
Hello Alex
I'm new to streaming. My ATEM Mini Extreme Iso works ok at home with my router, but I did a test at a customer site and could not connect to their network. I had the ATEM, and Macbook Pro all connected through a switcher to their network and we accessed the network from my Laptop entering the network details with password. Can you advise on the correct way to do this?
Many thanks
Peter
Alex, fantastic video, one of the best I've seen . You obviously know your stuff and you articulate it very well, congrats! My question is a bit off topic, so no pressure if you can't answer, but I'd be interested to know your thoughts about hardware switchers (like the ATEM Mini Pro) versus a software solution like vMix, for example. Any insights you may have would be greatly appreciated, cheers mate!
Is there anything you have to do in the network settings?
Also, if you are not at home or location with a dedicated router, could you use a hotspot that has an Ethernet port in place of the router? Thank you. Your video was very informational and much needed. I did a search just to get this information. The diagram you had was also five star.
Ok this is great but... If I don't need an Internet connection and I want to connect straight computer to ATEM to control through the software and have the usb c port recording to an external hard drive, can I do that? If yes how? I tried but didn't work. I need to record an orchestra and I will not have the need of internet to bring my router. In the other had, if this just work that way, can I use the router just for connection even if doesn't have internet? Thanks!!!
Good video, well explained! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Alex RE: 4:08
I had 3 locations where the automatic DHCP saw and connected to the control software. But I had one location that didn't see it, how do I get that manual IP - ive not got it to work when it doesn't see the device name.
Is it my computer's IP address or the AMP address I need to imput. How do I get the proper IP number.
Is there a standard IP number I should be typing in.
Alex, thanks for your vídeos. I conect the atem to the router but i cant see it in my laptop thru wifi, it is necessary to connect both atem and laptop by cable to a Network switch?
How is the Atem getting that Manual IP? How do we ensure that it is on the same subnet as the computer and router?
Hey Alex do you have any idea on the ATEM TV Studio HD and Strata Lite control? I do get my ATEM Mini Pro to work but the TV Studio just won’t budge!
Hi. My setup is the same as yours , but with Desktop/windows 10. I use a streaming service (StreamYard). It seems that if we Bring up streamyard it recognizes the blackmagic fine. I there are not issues. However (on same computer)if I then start the ATEM PRO software it steps on the Streamyard connection and I get something like rolling video as if the configuration has been hosed. Nut if start the ATEM MINI Pro software on a separate computer there are no issues with my streaming connection. Any suggestions?
Is it possible to use ethernet port as webcam in pro version? I want to use usb c port for recording and ethernet as webcam for streaming via computer app.
Thanks man! Great advice.
Thanks for the diagram! It really helped me quickly understand your setup! 🥳
Thanks so much for making my life easier. Such a clear and concise job! awesome explanation!
Hey Alex, I've recently bought the ATEM Mini Pro and I'm loving your videos, including the one on adding graphics. One thing that I'd love to understand better (and see a video on) is upstream vs downstream, DVE, why is the Stinger greyed out - and can it be used, and generally using 'native' graphics (rather than with Singular Pro) as I've been hitting some snags when trying to use PNG or TGA files with alpha channels.
