    Yes to everything in this video, particularly the message: if you’re going to do this stream, project and record at the same time: get the “Extreme” versions. I’ve been struggling with the Mini Pro ISO and Streaming Bridge and additional capture cards, exactly as described in this video and each project I do I realize all of my hastles would have been solved (elegantly) with the Extreme version and now I’ll need to retool. I wish other Atem reviewers had been this clear on the limits of the Mini Pro versions. Zephan nailed the issue perfectly here.

      @AnthonyTwigWheeler And thank you Anthony for summarizing what Zephan said. I was just about to write a long winded comment asking Zephan for clarification. Now, your comment is 4 months old. I am curious, would the newly released GoSee Stream Deck do what you want? It cost less than a Steaming Bridge.

      @@nwabugwuebube7804 the hdmi connection on your computer is not an input and cannot capture video. It’s an output meant for outputting a signal from your computer to a monitor. I think you were using that improperly. You need a USB-C data cable from the atem to the computer.

    Thanks for this. I liked the explanation about the extreme and ISO capabilities. We've used the mini Pro for over 2 years now and we've hit the limitations you mentioned.
    Would most probably go for the extereme ISO since I want to do a recording of all the camera views at the same time as I live stream the program output.
    Meanwhile, what are your thoughts on the video output coming from the USB output versus the HDMI? Someone mentioned the HDMI output will be better and lead to less lag since it can be fed to another dedicated graphics card or capture card on a computer. Does it matter?
    Also, are there alternative switchers that one can use to do program switching and simultaneous recording of all views?

      Interesting.
      My current goal is to try to get higher quality video output for livestreaming and recording of church services.
      A tech guy saw our setup and suggested we get video directly from HDMI output not USB.
      Our setup was us bringing 2 PTZ cameras into the ATEM mini pro, and then taking the USB out into the computer as a webcam. The HDMI out was used as a multiview monitor out. The USB webcam input was imported into easyworship (a church presentation software) as a video feed background over which text and lyrics were overlayed. The program output from the presentation software was then sent to NDI and then OBS received the overlayed video using its own NDI plugin. We then started OBS virtual camera and used it as a video source for zoom.
      The tech guy came to church recently and found the setup horrendous. Admittedly, there was lag in the video output shown on the church TVs 😊 . He's trying to help us minimize the lag and that's where my questions are coming from. He thinks bringing the video out through HDMI into the computer's computer card will be better.
      So sorry to bother you with all the details. Just thinking out loud hoping to get some help. Thanks a lot.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  Місяць тому

      @ that setup is pretty rough. You’re taking already compressed video (USB) into a software (easyworship), then outputting NDI (depending which flavor of NDI - also compressed more), then OBS is compressing it as a webcam output. So yea. Lots of stuff happening there.
      HDMI out into a capture card would help but it’s only creating more problems. For starters you’re on a mini pro so you only have one hdmi output so you’d have to kill off having a multiview. Additionally you’re bringing this into Zoom so unless you have a 1080p enabled account it’s going to get crushed before being sent out.
      Regardless I think you should consider reworking your setup and getting out of Zoom and using a legit encoded signal.

    Hi there! Great video! I actually own a Zoom F6 audio recorder. Do you have any experience using it alongside an ATEM switcher? If so, would you recommend the combo? Thanks!

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 місяці тому

      I can't say that I've used the F6 but there's no reason why it wouldn't work. It's made more for field recording and multitrack so it would be better served on a production shoot where you need to record all those separate tracks to handle in post production later. But it looks like it has an unbalanced 3.5mm line output so just make sure your ATEM is set up for Line instead of Mic in the ATEM Software Control settings and you should be ok. I always recommend having a backup and testing first.

    Hi Zephan, what about the Osee Gostream Duet, seems good but doesn't have ISO. Is there any other switcher close to that feature set? Can a freelancer get away not recording ISOs?

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  7 місяців тому +2

      The Osee is an interesting option. Personally since I’m using these professionally I much prefer a device that has a large user base where I can get my questions answered. I found the Osee to be plastic-y more so than the atem but certainly feature rich. Recording ISOs is up to you and a choice depending on your line of work. I have clients that specifically request it and being able to record ISOs as a backup for in-camera recordings especially at a time where Sandisk is under fire for their faulty drives, I’m always going to lean towards having more than one backup of any recording.

    • @FightFlixTv
      @FightFlixTv 7 місяців тому

      @@zephanmoses Hmm, i find the ATEMs are much more buggy than the OSEE. My ISO recordings never worked for more than 3 hours on my atems even after trying the recommended drives from BM. Very finicky HDMI issues that never occur on the OSEE. USB randomly quits working with ATEM software control, forced to bring a router mobile. Osee finally added desktop control and now has an SDI model with fans. I haven't heard of one person saying their osee overheated so I'm fine with their original plastic design. Plus you get NDI, preview buttons, and a lot of stuff BM never implemented for way less cost.

    I've had an atem mini pro iso for a few years and started to buy another for use in another setting... I love the ISO recording. It saves time BUT the audio, mic inputs, has all of a sudden started sounding boxy.. almost as if the sound is compressed... After hours of trying to find a solution the only solution I've found is to not use the audio. Oh and I am aware of setting it to line input when using a pre amp or mixer... But the built in mic pres are not boxy sounding... It has to be something in the last update.
    I also won't be buying another ATEM.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  Місяць тому

      Hmm, have you checked in your audio panel within the atem software control to ensure that no EQ has been enabled on any of the inputs? Additionally, are you finding the audio to be distorted on the livestream, the recording or both? Sometimes poor results occur during recording when you aren't using a SSD that is on the Blackmagic approved list such as the Samsung T7 (you'd need the T7 shield to properly sustain the read and write speeds for a best possible recording).
      One last thing to note, there's a lot in the chain everything from the mic all the way to the recording. There could be audio mixers, wireless interference and so many other things at play here that you'd have to debunk before blaming it on the atem.

    • @nakipila1318
      @nakipila1318 4 місяці тому

      True - but I'm concerned about the quality issues in it. 1) it becomes very hot 2) some reviews said it failed after a few uses and 3) support for this overseas and they are not responsive. The 295 USD price is attractive but were it to fail, it's going to be a pain to get any kind of support on it.
      On the other hand, in the US capitalist market, the BMD has cleverly or should I say slyly designed the ATEM Mini Pro with these limitations so that users will be forced to either go up 2 levels (to Extreme model) or buy the bridge (almost cost of a Mini Pro) to workaround the limitation. If Osee were to up their game, I am sure many would jump ship. Reminds me of Intel taking consumers for granted with high prices until Ryzen came and forced Intel to get in shape. For now, my workflow has been to use OBS and record to disk which suffices for my needs.
