MvC needs assets to reuse. The more, the better! With X-Men '97 reviving interest in the 90s era X-Men, going back to this well seems good. If you've never gone through the rosters before, Capcom reused assets from other games for *every installment*. That legendary 52 (I think) fighter roster for MvC2? Like, 10 were new and the rest came from the other Capcom-made Marvel titles, the Darkstalkers games, the Street Fighter Alpha series, etc.
@@KamisamanoOtaku. On the other hand, though, you can't just do the same thing you did in the 90's and 2000's anymore lest you end up with a Marvel VS Capcom Infinite situation where comic book style models don't lend themselves well to being reused in a completely different artstyle and engine.

It just makes me happy that all the Marvel versus Capcom games are actually affordable now. I know retro game pricing can be high, but paying 200+ for a PS2 copy of MVC2 is a crime and im glad Capcom is putting this out. Seriously i cannot be any happier.

Speaking as someone who has access to these games via Fightcade, and emulation, I'm very thankful for your explanation for as to why people don't want to go that route. Besides, these games shouldn't be relegated to Fightcade, and emulation.

Since this has been announced my 9-year-old and myself have played hundreds of marvel versus Capcom 2 games on my PC. He has gotten so into it that he is almost excited as I am for the re-release. This is exactly why this collection is such a big deal for the new age.

My thinking for a new, 2D fighting collection is the following:
-Alpha 2 Gold
-Alpha 3 Max
-Darkstalkers Chronicle The Chaos Tower
-Saturday Night Slam Masters
-Muscle Bomber Duo
-Ring of Destruction
-Sengoku Basara X
-Capcom Fighting Evolution
-Mega Man The Power Battle
-Mega Man 2 The Power Fighters
Other than that, give us the 3D fighters, a CVS collection, and a Steet Fighter EX collection!

I'd love to play Fighting Evolution. Such a trainwreck.
They just need to roll the Alpha games into one. Just add all the stages, gameplay styles and other content of Alpha 1 and 2 to Alpha 3 Max. Keep the arcade modes compartmentalized, so that everyone can continue to play the games as they were, while also adding a custom/remix mode that allows you to create your favorite combination of elements (for example: Alpha 2 arcade trajectory, using Alpha 1 gameplay and taking place on Alpha 3 stages).
They should've done the same with MvC and CvS.

I think something people should include when talking about the "Fighting Collection" series is the "Capcom Beat em Up Bundle". In mind that's like, the groundwork for these collections since they have so much of the same UI and sound design in stuff like the menus.
I just kinda lump all these collections together in my head.
The fighting collections, the Street fighter 30th anniversary, the beat em up bundle, the Megaman Legacy collections and the Ace Attorney collections.
@@Exlayer-pk8hy That’s fair, I’m kinda weird about it cuz I pair the SF30th one and the MMLC ones together but NOT with the other ones since they’re weren’t made in-house by Capcom. Cant speak on the AA ones though haha
@@NightWarriorX4 The first AA collection was the first collection Capcom put out in general, it doesnt have any of the fancy bonus features the other collections have, it's just the games in a pack.
But the other 3 AA collections they've put out has just as much bonus features as the fighting collections.

That pizza analogy is exactly me trying to set up PCSX2 for the first time recently, I just wanna play Dot Hack and a bunch of other games man, I don't know what I'm doing with this program.
Also, I am so unbelievably excited for this collection, I'm probably even going to play online despite me being horrible, which is why I usually never play online in fighting games.

It’s SOOOOO crazy that we got this Marvel vs Capcom Collection at the Nintendo Direct last month, because I literally predicted that there was gonna be a CAPCOM VS SNK COLLECTION being shown at this Direct (Even though I KNEW that wasn’t going to happen); and that was basically because of Terry and Mai being added to Street Fighter 6. But the fact that we got a MARVEL VS CAPCOM COLLECTION instead is just as exciting too. So technically, I got what I wanted.😅 Thanks for your input Thorgi.😎👍🏾

I'm surprised you didn't bring it up, but with X-Men 97 being released, a new wave of fans for the exact same interpretations of these characters present within Marvel Versus Capcom has been founded. I'm sure they, as a casual audience, would be interested in purchasing this game based on that alone
As someone who is a massive fan of the MCU (watched all the movies and shows and went to the opening weekend of Endgame), i SO AGREE with you about Marvel trying to make every game MCU adjacent! I love the movies and characters, yes, but I want games that use other source materials other than the movies! That's why I loved "Ultimate Alliance 3" so much; they literally pulled from almost every corner of the super hero world, and they were all interacting with each other, even the deep cut characters! Let Marvel games be their own entities, not reliant on major movies for cross promotional purposes! That's also why I loved these classic fighters so much; it got me to learn more about the other Marvel characters beyond the Avengers and Spider-man! So much so that when I saw "Multiverse of Madness", even if the movie called him "Gargantos", I kept calling him "Shuma Gorath" because of these games. So you betcha I SCREAMED when this was announced as I kept predicting it ever since "X-Men 97" finished its season! And will pick this up as soon as they announce the date...

You saying that the Fighting Collecting is a whole series aged super well. A few minutes ago the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 was announced with both Capcom vs SNK games, both Power Stone games, Project Justice, Plasma Sword, Capcom Fighting Evolution, and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
Unfortunately I saw it summed up best that while Fighting Game and FGC fans were ecstatic, the Nintendo crowd was going "Oh, okay cool. That's a thing I guess".
6:07 When I pre ordered my copy for the Switch, I had to get it from Best Buy because the pre orders at Target were sold out. I'd call that a HUGE success.

Imagine this re-release leads to not only a new MvC, but the return of Ruby Heart, the original character who as far as I know was made for MvC2 and has never appeared since.

Ruby Heart, Sonson who is the granddaughter to the OG Sonson who was the lead protagonist of his own action-platformer title that Capcom released back in the 80s, and the fun-loving living cactus from Mexico Amingo were originally created to be characters in a 4th mainline Darkstalkers title but when that title sadly never came to pass Capcom decided to put them into MvC2.
@@BIGNOSEPOPPA Hayato was the lead protagonist of Star Gladiator a 3D sci-fi themed fighting game that Capcom did that had a sequel that had him and June's daughter as the lead protagonist yeah the Star Gladiator sequel had a time-travel plot.
On the one hand, I literally screamed "IT'S MAHVEL BABY" when this got announced. The future of Capcom fighting games look brighter than ever.
On the other hand, the actual reason the MVC collection isn't coming to Xbox is because the game is being made on the MT Framework engine and that isn't supported on Xbox Series X or PS5. The PS4 version can be played on PS5 due to backwards compatibility, but Xbox demands that games on Xbox One that don't come to XSX at least be optimized. It's possible Capcom felt it wasn't worth it trying to get the Xbone version right and just focus on Switch, PS4 and Steam, similar to how Monster Hunter Stories 2 and the Battle Network Legacy Collection skipped Xbox.
Which stings a little since I bought the last fighting collection on Xbox specifically for Darkstalkers

@@deeta000 I recommend Killer Instinct for a fighting game on Xbox one.
This collection has the potential to win over the casual market in a way that the last Capcom fighting collection never could. Sure you could show somebody a picture of the Darkstalkers characters and they might think it looks sick and pick up the collection themselves, but there are just as many people that would reject Darkstalkers on account of it being an old fighting game, which are notoriously hard to get into. Compare that to Marvel versus Capcom where some parent is probably gonna end up having to buy this for their kid because the kids saw Spider-Man on the box and asked for it. This very well might be a case of Disney/MCU shills doing some good.
I buy fighting games to play BY MYSELF in the single player content, maybe come back after a year or 2 on a new character if I feel like it. The big reason I don't just pirate old fighting games is because the modern re-releases give me the combo lists and a practice mode so I can know how a character plays before I mess around in the arcade ladder. I don't wanna fight a bunch of experts online.
I'd love more content like this! Lower-effort audio-focused stuff feels like the perfect way to tide viewers over while waiting for bigger projects, and you've got a gift for keeping people hooked with your voice alone.

A point not often brought up:
For MOST of these titles (basically, all the games before MvC1), there has NEVER been an arcade-perfect version available to play at home. For CotA, MSH, XMvSF, and MSHvSF, the best you got was either...
1) A terrible PSX port with 80% of the animation frames hacked out, not being to play 2v2 battles unless you went into a special mode that could handle it ONLY if you played nothing but Mirror Matches because the PSX had so little RAM it couldn't load 4 characters into memory, or
2) You had to buy a Sega Saturn with an IMPORTED RAM cartridge, and even then you only got about three-quarters of the way to the true arcade experience... after blowing the equivalent of about a grand in today's money for the privilege.
Now we're getting Arcade Perfect versions of all four of those titles. No more missing animations. No more special tag mode/mirror match nonsense. No need to buy a 3rd party RAM stick. All this, with full online functionality and training modes and artwork and other goodies thrown in, for only *$7 per game* (if you include the Punisher).
Simply Marvelous. I cannot wait.

Unrelated, but for Halloween this year, a Build the Roster for a Killer Instinct sequel similar to the one you made for Darkstalkers in the past would be awesome. It'd be cool to look through Microsoft's properties to find fitting guest characters. Plus, it works with Halloween given the amount of monsters in the KI franchise.
Would probably be a "Let's Make A Sequel" video, though the thing about the guest characters would still be the biggest part of the whole thing since the 2013 reboot already featured three guest characters from other Microsoft IP's: Rash from Battletoads, Arbiter from HALO 5, and General Raam from Gears of War 1. (You know the Dragonborn would be there, though.)

I don't think the ownership of any of the Tatsunoko characters has changed since it released. If anything it would probably be less complicated now.
I'm surprised you made no mention of X-Men '97 and how popular that show is. I'm sure many casual players will now buy this collection simply because it has those classic 90's X-Men character designs on the front cover. X-Men '97 & MvC Collection coming out in the same year is NO coincidence.

I love everything you talked about in this video but you did forget a couple of things that should be mentioned.
On the mindset of Casual Fans, Marvel coming back is perfectly timed because earlier this year Disney dropped X-Men 97 on Disney plus and introduced a bunch of New fans to the Best Marvel TV or film product since Endgame. And those casual fans include the children of old fans. It did well enough that its getting a Season 2 and 3 and they are rereleasing the Arcade1up with an X-Men 97 Skin and its got a upcoming custom stool release too. Also comic Accurate costume Wolverine will be in Deadpool 3 dropping later this month. So X-Men came back and lit the world on fire with how good it was and now they are releasing a collection of games with those characters in it that can be bought on Switch which has the biggest playerbase in the world currently and their parents likely remember these games and can share those memories with their kids. So its got a Good Show Backing it, Nostalgia, and a Massive Audience thats wants it Bad.
All Helping Make this good. Plus once those kids and casuals play this game they will see all of like Mega Man, and Street Fighter Characters, and think I like this guy or these ones and i want to try their games, which boosts the playerbase of their main games and other collections making more money.
And even if kids didnt watch X-Men 97, or dont know what Ryu and Ken's Story is. They can see them and think Oh! Hes in Smash Bros! Which makes them want to play it and then they go to SF6 and sees that Terry is joining that game and think Oh! Hes from Smash Bros Too! now i can make them fight in this game that looks even cooler! Thats how you make Longterm New Fans.

To add to the point of FC and how most people are not gonna bother with it out of sheer hassle, I've seen others go the extreme opposite route by saying "Alright then, just go play the games on original hardware; old consoles and the like! You just need those old systems (which can vary in price), old copies of the game that are probably still in high demand, some new cables, a CRT or a scaler; and heck, you could also go for some expensive arcade boards, some Superguns, power supplies and..." and then every casual out there's just gonna go either "STOP! Not dealing with all that either..." or "...WTF is a Supergun???" (I've been in these situations before, I would know...)

Oh man, I remember my younger teenage years, during the summer, I'd head up to the local college's gameroom once a day. They had arcade cabinets which were only 25cents to play for most of them (Daytona was 50 cents). That was crazy cheap, especially in Hawaii when everything cost way more. So with a dollar's worth of quarters in my pocket, I'd play fighting games. Some days, I'd burn out and be done in half an hour. If I was on a roll, I'd spend an hour to two. And Marvel vs Capcom 1 was one of those titles I spent a ton of time on (King of Fighters 2001 was the other, I believe. It had the dude with the razor cape/cloak.). So I am 100% in favor of this collection.
And I'm one of those people who know what Figthcade is but I don't use. I'm very much a console (and now mostly Switch) gamer.

I think Hideaki Itsuno has more pull than we think at Capcom. What I mean by that is that he is an extremely competent, extremely loyal, extremely professional and talented veteran director for the company. Most big names at Capcom jumped ship out of frustrations after the closure of Clover Studio or after the rough early 2010s. Itsuno has stayed with the company and never badmouthed it or delivered a half-assed project in the good or the bad days.
DMC5, like Dragon's Dogma II, happened mainly because Itsuno wanted to make them. I think that says a lot about how much they value him.
I know everyone wants a new Rival Schools, and I do too, but the thought of Itsuno directing a new Darkstalkers came to mind and you just know he would knock it out of the park too.
I know it's not going to happen but I wish they would make an option to be able to put Laura Kinney (X-23) over metal wolverine so we can actually get 56 different characters

They were probably working on this collection before Xmen 97 even came out, but the huge success of that show did probably help for sure.

Marvel Entertainment was also dissolved in 2023, and they were previously stated to be the reason behind the X-Men and FF getting killed off in other media, including MvCI. Marvel Games (which was part of Marvel Entertainment) was absorbed into Disney Interactive and that brought the possibility with Capcom again. Also, Marvel Studios regained the film rights to both teams in 2019 when Disney bought 20th century Fox.

This deserves a treatment like what the Darkstalkers collection got, so you can play as MVC2 characters with an Infinity Gem system or team WOG Thanos with MVC2 Thanos with the Cross Assault system. There's enough code and assets in this retro collection to compile a massive, deep, fun, competitive game here, like in the spirit of Capcom Fighting Evolution...but good.
In the case of the Ace Attorney re releases, it also lead to games that hadn't been localized in the West, finally being released.

I do totally understand you point and to a degree I do agree, that competitive and casual players live in totally different worlds sometimes but I do think maybe we are straw manning millions of people that are gonna buy this game and are super oblivious to fighting games otherwise. I think videos like this are fun and I’m glad to hear your opinion! it’s always funny to me to hear people talk like they live in the walls at capcom hq, fun theory tho! I wanna see a new X-men Vs Street fighter! X-men is launching like 9billion new comics this year and there are a ton of street fighter characters we still wanna see that might not make it to 6! My darling. My first love. I haven't touched you since you were an actual new arcade release. Then you got replaced by Marvel vs Capcom 1 and were carted away forever, lost and forgotten.
Look I love MvC2 same as everyone but it's playing this, or Children of the Atom, that never really got arcade perfect ports before that really makes me happy. They could have charged the same price for just MvC2 and we all would have paid it. But they gave us the other games too. That's amazing.
Oh and emulation, roms, etc, can all bugger off. Sorry, I'm not young anymore. I don't have the time or interest to do homework and maintnence on a PC just to play a game. I'm not buying special hardware adapters or whatever to get an arcade stick to work on a computer. I haven't even owned a desktop PC since the invention of tablets and the rise of cheap disposible netbooks.
PCs will just never be a place for me. I've spent too many long nights fixing hardware failures, debugging issues, reinstalling OS's, doing safe restores, virus scans, etc. I once had to rewrite the bios for a PC, overnight, with little idea of what I was doing, based largely on notes I had made on a napkin, because I got a rootkit on someone elses computer and needed it to go away before dawn. And all that aside I've had three or four of the damn things just... die. Short out. Explode. Go away. All for random unavoidable things beyond my control.

Totally true. I’m 45 and have been playing fighting games my entire life - and I have no idea how Fightcade works or any inclination to use it. This official Capcom release is a big win regardless if we get a new Marvel game in my lifetime or not.

This channel has gotten me interested in old Capcom titles. And while the Fighting Collections and Arcade Stadium have been a big help, the old Capcom series ive really wanted to check out is the Breath of Fire games, which aren't officially available anywhere. Come on Capcom, bring it back.
I guess Capcom shifting more towards collections checks out, but I'm still skeptical after the first fighting collection came out, and not even a month later 6 of those games were added to the arcade stadium.

I didn’t know what fightcade was until this video.
After the announcement I’ve started looking into so much of the history of old capcom fighting games. I think out of all of them your videos are darkstalkers sold me on characters like Morrigan, Lilith, Jon, Lord Raptor, and BB Hood. I tried watching every video on Darkstalkers from fighting game history, to smash concepts, to memes, to death battles and character analysis. Debating between picking the game up for Steam or Switch.
I’m actually thinking about double dipping on Switch and PS4 PHYSICALLY!

To be honest, I have never tried to use Fightcade. I don't want to have to relearn how to install emulated games to a new emulator. I just stick to my old emulators that I already have (I'm not really into online gameplay too) with WinKawaks for XMCOTA to MvC1 games, and PCSX2 for MvC2 PS2 game.
So you really hit the nail exactly on the head with the Fightcade/casual gamer rant over there...
