I’m a new amateur “mechanic,” fixing up a 2003 Ranger. Making a lot of mistakes, but getting better snd better. Currently redoing the entire brake system. This video helped, thanks!
I gotta ask man what do I need to buy if the cable thats like center area on the driver side snaps. I know thats odd wording hope you see this and can reply soon
Four cables make up the parking brake system. Front cable attaches to pedal, then Intermediate cable connects front to rear right cable and rear left attaches to rear right. It sounds like what you need is the Intermediate cable. Go to Orielly Auto parts website and input your license plate or VIN number to ensure you get the correct fit results as these are specific depending on wheelbase, bed length etc. I got the BrakeBest cables from Orielly this way.
@@DustyDingus quick question. Did u have to run both lines up to front. Or is there a junction midpoint. Thinking of just cutting them both out. But replacing dosnt look so bad. Only thing is everything has been a fight on my dads 2003 ranger. Ny state salt !
There is a front, intermediate, and 2 rear cables. One coupler connects drivers rear to passenger rear, the next connects passenger rear to intermediate, then there is another coupler that connects front to intermediate. I only had to replace the 2 rear cables.
Which one? I just put in my vin number on the website (orielly I think but also check advance and AutoZone) and then search for parking brake cable and it should tell you what fits. I replaced both rears. The lengths are specific to wheel base, cab size etc
Technically, rear driver connects to rear passenger, rear passenger connects to middle with the clamp shown at 9:00 At 13:38 you can see the bracket that attaches rear driver to rear passenger already transferred to the new cable. I hope this helps, if I could post pictures here I would but if you email me at dustydingusyt@gmail.com I would be happy to help further
Thanks for the video, just changed both rear cables on my 2002 ranger.

@@DustyDingus thanks so much. Is union for back right over transfer case in rear.
@@stephenmetz2044 no it's just along the outside of the frame on the driver's side, just look underneath you can't miss it
You wouldn’t happen to have the part number for that line by chance?
Which one?

Dude, your driveshaft is pointing backwards. The boot should stay on the upper side, to prevent damage. The longer part should bolt to the rear diff.
Hm. I've never had it out. Couldn't find anything definitive online which way it should be though
The only part of this video I needed to see wasn't even shown. Sigh. Need to see how the 2 rear cables attach to middle cable

@@DustyDingus thanks Dusty, I was able to figure it out. Looks like I'm missing the connecting bracket.
