Greek freddo espresso (how to make it at home)

  • Greek freddo espresso is a very popular coffee enjoyed especially during the summer.
    You can read the written recipe here: www.thehungrybites.com/freddo...
    To make it, you'll need two doses of freshly brewed espresso coffee and lots of ice. You can add sugar according to your liking. For plain (sketo) freddo you don't add any sugar. For a medium freddo you'll add 2 teaspoons of sugar and for a sweet freddo you'll add 3-4 teaspoons of sugar. You can also replace the sugar with another king of sweetener.
    You get the best results using a frother, but you can also make it with a shaker, like I show you here. Try it and let me know if you liked it!

    After 8 months in Greece, Freddo Espresso Sketo has become my new favourite. I'm now also trying to make it at home. Very nice video, thanks! I'm still confused a bit about the ice cubes though, like other comments before. What happened to the four ice cubs you put into the shaker? In the final freddo espresso, I only see the additional two ice cubes in the glass, but not the initial four ice cubs from the shaker dropping into the glass. They can't have dissolved by just shaking for a few seconds.

    • @TheHungryBites
      @TheHungryBites  3 роки тому +10

      Hi Robert,
      Shaking is more than a few seconds (the video is edited). You should shake until the shaker feels very cold. By that time the ice cubes will probably be very small, that's why you add some more in the glass

    After owning plenty coffee machines like this one (with capsules ) and being Greek , I can say for sure that if you do not have a professional coffee machine and professional grade ice you can a get a satisfying result. But it is more than nothing obviously. And just a tip, the smaller the opening of the straw the better. You will thank me

Also, not all pods are even recyclable, aluminium ones are but not all plastic ones and even aluminium ones, like the Nespresso ones for example can only be recycled by Nespresso themselves. That was the case at least last time I researched the subject. I guess more and more companies try to make their pods easily recyclable so maybe that won't be a problem anymore.
      One thing I didn't know however is that these pods are pretty good alternatives if we take into account the energy savings of heating up only the necessary amount of water for an espresso and the actual coffee-beans savings.
