The XV8 is the workhorse of the T'au Empire in lore if not on tabletop, in order to achieve the rank of Shas'ui (basically a Seargent) you need 4 years of experience and to pass the requisite trial by fire, this is also true for XV25 Stealth Suit teams. Assuming that only 1 in 10 succeed in either of these suggests that on a T'au world with a population of 1 Trillion assuming an equal split in the population of the five castes (The most unreasonable statistic here given that Fire and Earth caste individuals canonically have a higher population that the air and water castes not to mention the Ethereals.) 1 Trillion divided by 5 is 200 Billion, 200 billion divided by 10 is Twenty Billion so at minimum that one world has twenty billion soldiers qualified to operate an XV8 and considering how important they are to T'au doctrine you'd better believe they have those suits on hand, hell even if they could only equip half their qualified pilots with an XV8 that's still 10 BILLION suits. How many Space Marines are there in the galaxy again? 1 million? 2 if we're being REALLY generous. And they typically come to battle at company strength (if that) and rarely at full chapter strength so for a codex compliant chapter that's 100 marines of 1000 total (happy to see guilliman agrees the codex needs some updates) Yeah the Imperium can TOTALLY take the T'au empire you guys it'd only need like, 5 chapters of space marines and a couple billion guardsmen NO WORRIES right?
Ah, but big numbers are hard for writers to understand!
The numbers of 40k are far from accurate, but I do agree that there are probably far more XV8s out there than the lore would portray
Seems like Scott Steiner math
Tau battlesuits are some of the the most fun to homebrew imo
Tau-Slaanesh, anyone?
@@lostbutfreesoul Well if the Farsight Enclaves can get a little Khorne in em, I don’t see why not. Personally I’d rather see Tzeentch take the initiative with the Tau Empire though. I don’t think Nurgle and Slaanesh would find it as easy to gain a foothold
@@sagenod440 I think the ethereals actively discourage or outright prevent chaos corruption within the Tau. Makes sense considering their lore, but I guarantee GW will retcon this when it's time for more money.
Indeed, there's a lot of freedom to be found in building up your own versions
Tau get meme'd on a lot but it's genuinely impressive how they've managed to not only survive but thrive in the grim dank of the 41st
It is right to say they have been enslaved by their ethereals? they are the reason for the progress, perhaps?
That's perhaps me seeing what is not there.
Love to all 💯❤️😈🤖🇬🇧🫡
Indeed, most other aliens get squashed fairly early on in their stories, but not the Tau
I am loving the monday uploads and at this length. Makes the morning work drudge bearable
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think Battlesuit ZZ is an underrated sequel to Zeta Battlesuit, but honestly Battlesuit 0083 Stardust Memory is still my favorite.
I like Cha's Counterattack
@@armin8306 Have you seen the newest movie Battlesuit H'a T'au Wai? Talk about a greater than good movie.
Battlesuit 0083 where an Inquisitor stole a Battlesuit with cyclonic torpedo
Honestly, I think if I was an imperial citizen, I would probably try and go live with the Tau
Heresy! You shall taste the emperors wrath!
I was looking for a 40k analogue of the concept of _"class enemy"_ for my reply - and would almost have typed something about a _"race enemy"_ before I realized the unintended undertones and abandoned the idea.. 😅
Sadly, me too.
The Tau had me at 'labor saving devices'😂
Face the wall.
@tharkunableLoL, your response was both affirming and punitive. I like your style.
I love tau fire warrior armor. Fell in love with it since the video game so many years ago.
Me too, I haven't played that game in years, but it was very fun back in the day
Thank you!
What I appreciate is the way you tell the sermon and the use of words. With a nice voice in the ear, soothing and relaxing, the story carries your thoughts.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
"NOOO YOU CAN'T BLOW MY MOSTLY MELEE ARMY OFF THE TABLE FROM ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE MAP!"
"Haha Riptide goes brrrrrr"
Man, I love these guys!
30:25 Dedication to using hard points? Well, not quite so dedicated anymore. In the new 10th edition codex, our crisis suits now come premade and with very little customization options.
Great Video!
Ah I didn't actually know that, what a shame! I always try to keep the vids fairly in line with tabletop rules, but I wasn't aware of that change, damn!
@@Scholarslore Oh, I didn't mean there was anything wrong with the statement. Technically, in the lore, the XV8 suits still use hardpoints as it's the same chassis just equipped with different loadouts. It's just that in previous codex editions with the tabletop rules, we players were always free to design our own crisis suits using hardpoints and weapon/equipment options. In 10th, they now only give use predefined and named configurations now which is a bit of a shame because it feels like we lost a bit of our flavor with the latest codex.
@@87Kyrosanyes and no, honestly I never saw anyone run anything save for Cyclic Ion Blasters.
The new profiles are actually pretty useful but I do agree in that units of 3 without shield generators is a high risk high reward situation
A Leagues of Votann video would be great 👍🏻
I do not think, they have enough lore yet. I do not understand why GW even bothered to bring them back, when they did not give them anything, no books, hardly any lore. And you find almost more lore in Necromunda than in the rest of 40K on Votan.
@@haraldbredsdorff2699I think because it’s so limited that you could fit literally all of it into a single 40 minute video rather than multiple videos for the more fleshed out factions - in and out, SHORT and sweet
@@johnsavage9633SHORT!?
There's very little official lore on them at the moment, but I am waiting intently for some new stuff to come out to really flesh out a video on them
@@Scholarslore we’ll get another 200 imperium novels before we get a squat novel
This was so fascinating to listen towards, and I really like it how venerable the voice became at 33:17 - 33:38 (Well done on this!) Would love to see more of calmer talks in the future!
Thank you, I'll try to adjust the model to be more in line with that!
Mate your videos are ☝🏻. Please more longer form content like this, the emperor demands it.
Thank you, and will do, plenty more of the longer stuff to come
I was literally just thinking a new video should be up sometime soon.
Riptide in lore: extremely expensive prototype deployed by Ethereal personal orders
Riptide in game: go-to workhorse that is taken as much as the army size allows, with the cost similar to regular Hammerhead.
It made me sad when the Tau went... bigger.
I fell in love with the rail-gun vehicle and infantry...
Felt so betrayed when it all went 'what large model can we sell them today?'
100%, the lore:tabletop relationship doesn't really work with riptides
I always bring at least two in my lists. They have never let me down
The Tau are my favourite by far.
So versatile
Ahhh a sermon to accompany a coffee ☕️
Ahh what I'd do for a cup of recaff now. Nope, just training, sermon, then more training for this Guardsman.
Cheers mate ☕
Good idea.
Favourite vid so far - and yes I'm biased haha. Great job man!
Thank you!
Okay, marathon over, I'm on my fifth beer, and I think I'm gonna save this for the morning. Thanks.
perfect video, the length makes it even better. Hope you're moving into long form. the voice is perfect for it now.
out of all of the tau suits i think my favourite by far is the ghostkeel
Love listening to your stuff while painting
Thank you love your content as always 🙏
these xenos are an enigma, they advanced rapidly in a blink of a geological eye, they managed to take many of our rightful worlds in the eastern fringe and the gulf, and now they have mech suits and are advancing within imperial space.
Best faction in WH40k.
A blessing from the God-Emperor himself.
You're the best mate
Saving this one to listen to while I assemble my Kroot-looted power suits.
Beautifully done, thank you.
hell yeah i was just playing boltgun lets goooooo
Its 2024 and you said let's go.
Best game ever hope they make more.
@@nathanworthington4451we all know what year it is, Nathan. Someone else's vocabulary won't hurt you, I promise
@@jurj97 Who's vocabulary? DaBaby?
This reminds me of David Attenborough. Very soothing to listen to.
I kind of want to see a Tau version of a Macross battleship.
Thanks @Scholar's Lore
As somebody who remembers DoW: Dark Crusade, I am a sucker vor them old XV15 stealth suits with a nice XV25 as squad leader.
So happy good ol' XV15 get mentioned by our skill adorned and beloved Iterator! :3
Your Lore lullaby never fails to conjure welcome sleep, when all else fails.
I hope you love your job. 🥰
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
The original Dawn of war was my first introduction to 40k, so I do have a real soft spot for any unit/lore which was represented in those games!
But I do enjoy this, even though it isn't my job I still get a lot of satisfaction out of making these videos, but again, thank you for the kind words
I gotta say, my reaction to finding out Your videos are voiced by AI was very mixed. On one hand as an illustrator I have a strongly negative opinion on generative AI, but on the other ive done some research and Your case is a rather welcome exception. Not only is the voice not based on any living person, You put a lot of work into creating and tweaking the model into something i genuinely enjoy listening to, not to mention the debatably most important part of the experience, the writing is still done by You as far as i understand, and that writing is by far one of the best out there. Additionally im thankful for Your usage of manmade art for the visuals, even though i imagine the urge to use ai for this task is strong
All that said, in the end i still enjoy Your content and i see it as a prime example on how ai is not all bad in terms of performance art, while remaining ethical and i can confidently say i enjoy Your work.
Robotech called and said they want their mechs back...
Robotech can't say shit about having original mechs.
Power rangers zords you say?
They need to ask Battletech, but they aren't gonna give them back now that Harmony Gold got told off.
I love how most people don’t even realize that the Tau’s "greater good" is no better or less authoritarian than the "imperial truth".
Nobody cares when one provides bread and safe place to sleep and the other makes you a servitor.
@@Rssika considering that the imperium of man is thousand and thousand of billions living soul strong, one can only assume that people are fed wouldn’t you think?
@@simonbrosseau1783 Wow, corpse starch. Great.
"Hey do your best to do the best for the whole" vs "If you stand at the wrong place you will be lobotimized or killed"
@@Connordaboss45 Exactly. Being tau empire citizen or maybe living in human enclave in squat space is probably the best deal baseline human can have in 40k, bar none.
I had to go back and check the date this was posted.
... broadsides, welding two full bore Railguns. Remember those?
Hate on the Tau as much as you want, but their true strength is that they are advancing and actively producing equipment and weapons that are beginning to near the heights of old Imperial tech, while the Imperium is holding on to relics they can rarely replace, let alone have active factory lines of. In attrition wise, and just the fact the Tau nurtures active development in tech means they will out supply / out tech the Imperium eventually. My big question is will their AI and tech turn on their empire like what happened to humanity, and if it does happen, what will the collateral damage be?
The tau will soon realise, once in the presence of the god-emperor!
Pls make a tutorial on your workflow someday
Xenotic huh? Dropping some random XENOS that sounds awesome on us huh? Okay let's go
you would think they would just place auxiliary sensors behind armor plating that can retract of pop off in case of the head being removed.
It would be better than peaking out a slit in the front.....
thats not exactly far beyond normal technology there lol
I say the scholar knows more about xenos then a good imperial servant should.
Better to know your enemy so you know how best to destroy them while avoiding their tricks in turn! ;D
Hmmmm, a most heretical accusation!
Tau are possibly even more horrifying than any other faction. Psychic Clockwork Orange communists. Love em.
TAU VIDEO! OH YEA BABY! FOR THE GREATER GOOD!!!
Could you imagine the Tau and Imperium teaming up? They could defeat anything
25:09 Never heard of a Tau called Ernest… 😂
Shirley you just be joking! 😉
@@UGNAvalondon't call me Shirley...
1:23:55
I wonder if this is an official artwork. I don't think we've ever seen the actual cockpit of a Crisis suit ~
more than capable enough .....
The Tau would be annoying to deal with (material and cost of lives) but the imperium could ultimately crush them if the other distractions would leave well enough alone.
Multiple chapters would die, probably several titan legions, and unknown amount of guard regiments as well. Just to destroy an empire that is mostly peaceful with them. The imperium would fall shortly afterwards once any other threat realized how weakened the imperium was
@@Connordaboss45 And all would be glorious martyrs for the Emperor. The blood of mankind is His to spend as He sees fit.
@@AC20sAkimbo Emperor would probably face plant that the imperium ended itself to destroy one xenos empire
@@Connordaboss45 No. its just a matter of scale. What would be disastrous to a smaller empire is what the Imperium eats up because mass scale casualties is all they know.
@@AC20sAkimbo the imperium lost 3 companies of space marines , 4 guard regiments, and a titan legion to fail to take Taros. Multiply that for every single planet they'd try and take.
Looks like .ore toys for warch Fortress Fairious point to capture study and intergrate into my forces, my kill teams are highly skilled at using xenos tech, im sure my tech priests will find a way for Astartes to use these battlesuits
There is lore and content in the Warhammer 40k universe for at least 2 decades of game developing but what we have is ...card games, rts games, turn based strategy games, some stupid linear shooting game and a pretty cool co op but not much else...
Does the AI Narrator have a name?
No, the Imperium wouldn't have ordered more pilots to be trained if a weapon's system was releasing too much radiation for the operators. That would be inefficient since pilots are a long term training program. They would cybernetically and genetically modify the pilots to tolerate the radiation, like the Skitarri are.
There are guard units that huff paint before battle because it makes them fight better. The imperium would definitely throw lives away to further a military campaign
@@Connordaboss45 Oh, it does, but in specific ways.

@Scholar's Lore: You sir, have out done yourself. You are truly blessed...by Gord AND Mork
Wit bout dem gurlz? Sey now da custodians
13:55 helldivers lol?
Ah, yes. The xxnumbernumber suit. EVEN BETTER than the XV-8. The XV-8 is great, i assure you! A truly magnificent marvel of technology, NEVER to be surpassed... except by... EVERYTHING ELSE. Which brings us to Xsomethingorother! Better in every way than the Xblahblah, which is better EVEN than the Xp87, which IS TWICE THE SIZE and power as the other suit, WHICH IS THE ELITEST, POWERFULLYEST BESTEST EVAR!
Which reminds me of THE NEWEST Astartes models, who are EVEN BETTEREST than THE BESTEST, which, ofcourse, being itself, plunged it into a recursive loop, SWALLOWING OLD GODS AND NEW, which is ok i guess.
Oh, AND it's INCREDIBLY RAAAARE (which make it VAAAAUABLE) so it is naturally BETTER (Not AT ALL an indication of it being a poor fit and phased out). If you have something SO GOOOOD you wouldn't make more than three, right?
Is this what an AI having a mental breakdown looks like?
😅the closest thing to the good guys 40k has
Is that background music from RE4??
Not quite the save room ambience
Somethings not right, these guys developed as a species way too quickly. Them Ethereals are acolytes for something sinister.
Everything in 40K isn't right.
O wisest of Scholars, why do the Tau choose to name their battlesuits using Earth letters and numbers?
The Tau hired some guy named James Workshop to make up the names
Translation Convention? In-universe, they could very well be labeled “Ahks-Veth Shessa” Battlesuits for all we know. 🤷♂️
Tau can speak Gothic so its likely ambassador told them their names in Gothic and they have tau names in their own language
this... sounds almost like admiration...
could the venerable scholar have turned to heresy?
I shall inform the nearest arbites posthaste!
Ethereals are necrons that have reverted back to flesh
How do you build a fission reactor powered battlesuit and not account for all the fucking radiation. That’s a comically massive oversight.
Skitarii: Cries in binary.
