The BEST Inward Drift Combo in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 вер 2023
- Inward drift (or inside drift) is one of 2 drifting styles in MK8DX. Most vehicles use outward drift (sliding), and 5 vehicles use inward drift (sharp turn). These vehicles are:
- Comet
- Yoshi Bike
- Sport Bike
- Jet Bike
- Master Cycle

Real shortcat character
DK
Funky kong
definitely funky Kong
Diddy Kong
Why did they pick the monstrosity Peachette?
One of the biggest advantages on inward drift is that you don't lose any speed when you drift, so you can outrun a blue shell a lot easier
I didn't know that! What I did know for outward drift is that on 200cc you want to neutral drift (don't touch the control stick) as much as possible to outrun blue shells, because neutral drifting is faster than holding a drifting angle
drift more than you turn!
this is really fascinating, thanks for letting me know! that *is* a huge advantage
Actually, it all relies on some builds. Some tyres like the rollers and button/leaf tyres make you lose a bit of acceleration while monster and cushion don’t seem to do so.
You can actually figure it out by hearing the engine sound while riding the Sports Bike or even Yoshi bike, not so sure about the rest.
@@JustAbnegator Really? This is fascinating, I'd love to know more about the fine details of inward drift!
As a person who used to main Rosalina on Yoshibike. The mindset is basically always be drifting. Drift to realign, drift to get the coin. Drift to get the box. Drift to take the shroomless cut.
What will always feel weird is how *early* you start drifting for a corner. Everyone else is basically drifting as they come up on the turn. When your inside drift is starts halfway down the track.
It does feel amazing to master, regardless.
As an Inside Drift user I can safely say this: after a while we just sorta _get it,_ like we simply know how our vehicles work, and to be honest it's hard to switch back to outward drifting after getting used to it
I've worried about it being weird to switch back, but I've used outside drift for so long that it's fine 😅
@@Shortcat321 Yeah for me it was the opposite, I've used inside drifting since before the DLC even dropped, and even now that I am much better at the game I still struggle with outside drifting even after trying to return to it
That's true. And I love to see that there are more inside dirfters around.
I can confirm that I've played inward for so long that I genuinely cannot play outward drift anymore. I'm like a complete beginner to outward drift now and I want to switch but its difficult
i've noticed that it's difficult switching between the two when beating all the time trials
To clarify inside vs outside drift, the way I understand it (with my limited game design knowledge) is that outside drift reduces the traction on the back wheels, which causes the back of the vehicle to swing out, which then turns the vehicle sideways as the back wheel tries to overtake the front wheel (in rear wheel drive).
With inside drift the back wheel gains more traction, turning it into a stronger pivot point, which then allows for much sharper turns, however that extra traction also makes it nearly impossible to counter steer once your direction is locked in.
Basically outside drift tends to be superior because it can take very tight corners and very wide ones, due to the fact that you have control over the angle of your bike. This flexibility is required in most tracks. That's why there's only a few tracks that are considered to be inside drift tracks. Inside drift however does allow for really tight racing lines, if the track allows for it.
It should also be said that inward drifting has less motion than outward drifting, as your whole vehicle isn't swinging out, which lets you make more subtle adjustments to your line, which could be useful in a handful of scenario's.
One goes inward, one goes outward. Boom. There's your answer.
I agree with the overall assessment but you’re ignoring the micro-adjust meant nature of inward drift. For non boost drifts I have more control over my line in terms of reacting to situations. Regular drifters are better suited to complex turns overall but it’s much harder to react on the fly without it seriously punishing you, at least that’s how I feel.
I miss Mario kart Wii, where the difference was bigger.
Bikes had wheelies and only blue sparks. And being hit while wheelie-ing was super-punishing. The inward drift has been more balanced in 8, where there’s a delay before the inward movement starts. However, using inward it’s very easy to get to full speed, and get out of the way of danger.
@@GODhandCooper "It should also be said that inward drifting has less motion than outward drifting, as your whole vehicle isn't swinging out, which lets you make more subtle adjustments to your line, '
this is pretty much how it works in real life, if you google motogp races the racers use sport bikes (or inside drifting bikes in mario kart terms) and they literally drag their kneepads at the ground to turn sharper, its insane
11:30 I want to point out something here: See how he held the bomb behind him to deflect the red without letting go? In-drift can do this pretty much all the time whereas out-drift has to let go of the bomb early if they’re drifting, otherwise the bomb will likely hit themselves. Just a fun little tech fact brought to you by an in-drift main (medium Mii, Yoshi Bike, Sponge Tires, Paper Glider)!
Notice that this can also be done with outward drift karts, but requires going at good speed and taking sharp drifts, and even so it’s pretty unreliable so yeah, inward drifts are better for that
@@Rhapsody-. yeeah, it can be done more easily on 200cc
what?
i've always held my bombs out with outwards drift and never had it hit myself lol
@@StalinkTz it mostly happens at slower speeds/while drifting
@@Vouniern oh alright
If Nintendo added the wheelie mechanic from MK Wii, to inward drift bikes, that would balance out the vehicles perfectly.
And Yet, That made the inward drift bikes OP😅
@@pavelac3175the inside drifting in mkw was broken, the wheelies were also amazing but that’s not the main reason. Inside drift is far worse in mk8 so wheelies would be a good addition to balance it out
@@SaumonMirshahii actually like inside drift in mk8dx, the only thing that brothers me is the way your drift delays, if it was instant like in wii but had that predetermined line like in 8 and having to brake drift to take tight turns it would be a lot better, being much more similar to real motogp, and they could limit inside drift bikes to normal mini turbos but give them wheelies
And for outside drift bikes give them super mini turbos and slower wheelies, then they couls have two ways of drift for karts, one that would be the usual outside drift maybe a little more exagerated and the other one being more like gripping with a fwd car and give atvs the capability of mantaining most of their speed in the off road
I’ve recently tried to play outward drift after being a yoshi bike main for a year, and the way you played in this video is exactly how I felt
Ive just explored the mario Kart community few days ago and I love the positivity and non-toxicity coming from youtubers like you, JPG, TWD etc. Turns out i lost my game back then but im really considering buying it again :)
hope you get back in to it brother, nothing quite like some mario kart
Inside drift was the dominant form on Mario Kart Wii, with the best bikes like the Mach bike and Flame runner both being inside drift bikes.
They were difficult to master, but once you did the crazy sharp turns you could pull if you memorized the right lines made them basically essential picks for competitive play. That's why I personally liked them over karts, much higher skill ceiling to master and when they worked.... they worked very well.
It's been such a shame that mario kart 8's inside drift bikes just don't have the same feel they did in Mario Kart Wii. Even things like the Yoshi bike, relative to their predecessors like the mach bike feel so floaty and difficult to control. Inside drift used to be a precision tool meant for the most skilled players. Now it's just a much crappier alternative option!
i love the way you show your thinking and explain your descisions as you go, it makes it so much easier for me as a beginner to pick up on all the different possibilities and strategies you can go for
For years my main in this game was DK on the Conet without ever knowing what inward drift was, so when I started using outward drift again, I had to learn it all over.
Another big advantage of inward drift is that you are often holding a much tighter drift so your mini turbo charges up a lot faster
Crazy good as always, cool vibes ,not too crazy reactions and just being a normal person….Wonderfull!!!
crazy how inward drift was the best class and meta in mk wii, and in this its the most overlooked forgotton one
Love your channel, and your voice, with all your personality! Awesome content, all the way from the START of your channel to this day! ❤
Always a good time when shortcat uploads
this is seriously the best mk8d channel.
these vids are sooo entertaining thank you shortcat!
After watching this, I went and played some worldwide with the Yoshi Bike. I had played it before a long time ago but you helped me found a new appreciation for it! First few games were rough but once I got used to it it became the longest I've played and the most fun I've had in a while. I loved inside drift in MKWii but was always a bit disappointed in how it was implemented in this game until now.
The only thing I'm less keen of is that I've also been learning some important shortcuts (like Mushroom Gorge gap cut) recently and I'm not sure how many are possible or easy with inside drift and I'm not sure if guides for them are very prevalent.
I was so happy yesterday when they announced Funky is coming back to Mario Kart! Although get ready to see lobbies full of funky-flame bike again...
That was easily the most CHAOTIC yoshi valley race I have ever seen
As someone whose favourite game of all time is Mario Kart Wii, playing inside drift bikes in this game will always be painful for me
I dunno what it is about these videos, but they are so chill I love them lmao
Heyo Shortcat,
I'm almost caught up to all your videos. I started playing MK8D 1 month ago and your videos were the first one to pop up in my feed, and been watching them ever since. Thanks to your tips and tricks, I'm now almost at 10k VR and still rising, but here's the thing. I'm a Dry Bowser Yoshi Bike main. So I had to improvise quite a lot (because your tips are based on outside drift) but I'm doing pretty well.
I'm not much of a commenter, but just wanted to point this out.
Wow, 10k is impressive! Congrats!
As a mii hyrule bike main I would like to congratulate you on 10k vr
i use rosalina on the comet because mario kart wii made me an inside drifter for life, and you did really well for someone that doesnt play inside drift at all.
I use inward all the time and im glad your fining starting to see how fun and good it can be
its always a good time when shortcat posts!
I was waiting for a video like this :)
I became an Inside Drift Main because I felt(and still mostly feel) that Regular Drift just doesn't feel all that great. After a drift I don't feel like I have control over my direction as the cart doesn't really straighten out in the way the camera looks.
95% of the time I am naturally more in control on Inside Drift. The other 5% are in suboptimal situations like getting bumped(especially on Light Blue Shy Guy), getting stuck on a wall, etc.. Also, if the Blooper shows up on tracks like Rainbow Road and Neo Bowser City just accept the better Items you'll pull after falling off.
This college thesis is brought to you in part by an Inside Drift Main who should've gone to sleep 6 hours ago.
In your short about inward drifting I commented yesterday about making a guide since I only know how to inward drift properly as I didn't even know there was a difference when I started playing, so I'm going to pretend like this video is for me thank you
I've been using inward drift for last couple of years and I think you figured it out better than I did haha. I actually use this exact combo (but I'm a blue yoshi), I'm not a big winner but it's just really fun to drive.
I use to use vehicles with the slide drift, but when I learned the sport bikes had a different drift style I decided to use them. At first it was weird, so I switched off it for a bit, but now exclusively use the sport bikes for all tracks. Also exclusively race using Lemmy as my character with the Yoshi Bike/Azure Rollers/Bowser Kite combo primarily~
There are a few tracks i exclusively use inward drift on because of very particular properties involving how it handles drifting just after landing from a jump. I've noticed that inward drift on coconut mall particularly helps a lot with the sharp stairwell turns after tricking off a fountain, and that low mini turbo inward drift charges mini turbos on shorter sharp turns remarkably quickly
that yoshi island race was brutal I’d probably stop playing for the rest of the day if that was me
GG's! Apparently I was in this lobby with you! This was such a fun lobby and it was fun racing you! Love the Yoshi on Yoshi bike combo btw, looks great! ;p
What abilities does a magic chicken have
@@keysmash_roa I lay magical golden eggs which grants wishes or something like that
Inward drift mains, rise! So happy to see Shortcat make more videos including it. Gotta love it!
As an inside drift main, I find this very entertaining
I like using; Yoshi, Yoshi bike, Sponge tires, and the paraglider.
As somone whose only just gotten into this I've been doing inward drift the whole time - I use my mii of the orange rocket bike and the little red wheels - and the plain glider cause I like the look - now I'm having to learn 'normal' drift
@@beefmeatloaf Using inside drift for your whole life kinda drives you away (No pun intended) for "Normal" drift, I agree.
I’m confused what is the difference between the 2 drift and which is better
@@chickenwithbarbecue Neither drift is really better it's more so what you prefer. Inside drift is on a few bikes like the yoshi bike, master cycle, and a few more. Inside drift like a really sharp turn where as outside drift is like a wide turn. I'm not really sure how else to explain it so I hope this helps.
You should do a collab with jperm
Why
as an inward drift main, I'm honestly impressed
He’s back❤❤❤
I main inward drift. Idk why but I just can’t use outside drift. Might be because I grew up playing wii, or more likely 9 year old me picked the sports bike because he thought it looked cool and now 9 years later I haven’t looked back
My combo is luigi + sports bike + blue rollers + cloud glider
I know it’s not what everyone is using but it’s good I swear
The cope is real
A man’s cope will never die
Same here
with inside I got into the top 0.5% on warios goldmine 200cc
rosalina, spots bike, azur Roller,
Don't ask me how I did that
Link, Master Cycle, Cyber Slick, Hylian Kite. I picked that combo when I was still a casual, but now it's the only bike I know how to play.
I play Rosa with the comet red rollers and the paper glider
I'm happy about funky Kong appearing he was my favorite character in mkwii
SHORTCAT you are the reason why I started playing Mario kart again! You are so funny and I’m making a video on you if that’s ok!
Dude wake up Shortcat just uploaded
Day one of asking for the worst inward drift combo
master cycle metal wheels heavyweight?
Inward drift is super fun to play with once you get good at it, i like it. The only thing i dont like is how you cant bounce a million times to take a corner sharp when going slow
as an mkwii lover this makes me happy
#1 mariokart UA-camr🔥🔥
Omg I see my mii in your video Idk how I haven't noticed you lmao I love your videos
I’ve been using inward drift since a kid so I’m used to it completely
I think this was my exact build when playing. First time playing it was very odd to get used to but it was fun.
I remember that Waluigi stadium loss! It was the end of an era, but at least you're more free from the stress of keeping that streak going!
Ya know i looked it up and i found that Daisy and Yoshi have the same stats, now i can use my favorite character!
Such good video's 😊
As an inside drift main, I can confirm you actually did very good for not playing inside drift much. Also, for some reason, I find it really hard to snake.
Liking and subscribing because I love yoshi yoshi
You took my combo! The Yoshi on Yoshi with Rollers!😂
To get better at inward drifting i think it is best to lean closer to the outward wall as the sharp turns may get onto grass
When we needed him the most, he returned with another banger video
We still need the older version of him.
I have legit been using inward drift since mkwii i had no idea that people struggle THIS much with it lmao
Speakig of wii i think that a mk wii video would be very fun ! Also, good job as always
Nice just what I wanted
That villager was doing the wait at the start challenge
2:32 that blue shell was totally derping out
Nice W on waluigi stadium as usual!
Shortcat, something i need to be known, the amount of mini-turbo you get from a given drift is a lot more dependent on how tightly you turn, given this, turning tighter generally gives the ability to produce better mini-turbo boosts. Additionally you recieve little to no benefit from beginning a drift as early as you do and it actually can be harmful in the event that something hits you as the forward movement of the spin-out animation is more likely to make you go off the track.
We love yoshi
Since hopping and easier mini turbo management is such a help to outward drifters, the best way to balance inward drifting would be to give it a different bonus auxiliary bonus surely.
Shortcats awakening to inside drift is unfolding
Bro too god for inward drift
Not me thinking he opened the video with "today we're gonna be on n word drift" 💀
i love the video and i want to know if you were ever going to do competitive lounge again?
I've used inward drift so much that I actually dislike outward drift now.
0:53. In this worldwide appears my favourite combo in your right
Koopa, Sport Bike, Wooden Tires, Paraglider.
This carried to about 10-12k on the Wii U version of this game while playing online. I love inside drift so much, there's something about that just feels right
Ladies and gentlemen…the streak has returned!!
Inward drift is actually amazing frontrunning since you can take tighter lines than everyone else in certain situations.
Turnpike runners: "Am I a joke to you?"
Surely, the natural continuation to this is "Can I win with the WORST inside drift combo | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe"
I feel like it's a lot easier to explain what "inward drift" is by just saying "it's the drifting that sport bikes use"
More inward drift plz🙏
There are lines for closed turns like the first consecutive in rainbow road, but most of them comes from taking the curve from the most far part os the first curve, then you have to mannouver very quickly and keep calm even if it looks like you are going to fall
New vid W oh and do a collab with hydriex
The student becomes the master…
I think I might have started playing the game on inward drift without realizing cuz now I can’t bring myself to play anything else 😭
It’s really good though!! Sharp turns become your best friends with it
Who knows, maybe the upcoming wave 6 will give inside drift frames the buffs they need to put them more on par with outside drift. Maybe we'll even see the return of Funky Kong inside drift as a competitive choice.
I see you having this problem as well, so I figure I should point it out: I have been an inward drift main since day 1 on deluxe, and I always seem to have a problem making it to the double item boxes. I think it's because those boxes appear at the wider parts of turns, and inward obviously has a hard time drifiting outward.
A tip with how you tried the yoshi valley bridge. So when you’re in that situation you want to let go then immediately drift again. That will let you smooth out your drift hopefully this helps
So cool. I love you shortcat! Next time plz play with me can you?
Great video! I was just wanting to record my mario kart 8 deluxe footage myself but don't know how to do it. Could you please tell me how you record it?
Could you please make more inward drift videos?
Came here from shorts. I never wanna leave.
I remember switching off my main combo to try to play Mario with the standard kart and such for the fun of it and being completely thrown off and struggled to do anything
You see, I’ve been using the master cycle since day 1 and I had 0 clue about anything Mario kart until I started recently getting back into it, so I basically just conditioned myself into thinking inside drift was just the regular way to play
Inward drift is the only way to play for me. 💪🏼❤
Thank you for being one of the few people who acknowledge inside drift mains exist🥲
I main Shyguy, Jet Bike, Retro tires, and the MKTV Parafoil
How do you do glider vectoring w/o turning on motion control? Or do you always have them turned on? Anyways nice vid
Shortcat you should play some MKWii with Troy!! It would be such an amazing vid
Inward drift tip from someone whos dad races motorcycles:
right turns-
Start far left b4 turn
Turn tightly to cut the corner
You can easily pass outward drifters in bendy tracks!!!
Yoshi circuit is SO FUN with inward!
Can you do a handcam/finger tricks guide?
