How to get Better at Mario Kart: • FULL Beginner Guide | ...
mk8dx inward drift vehicles:
- comet
- yoshi bike
- sport bike
- jet bike
- master cycle
4k subs already yall are amazing ❤ also heres a description of inside drift.
5 bikes (in the description) have inside drift. When you start a drift, they dont turn at first, and then it becomes a regular-looking turn instead of a sideways drift. You cant turn as sharply, and you cant hop to change your direction quickly.
Some 200cc world records use inside drift to take better driving lines (like toads turnpike and paris promenade), but mostly outside drift is used online and in records.
Inside drift is harder to use well, but it is definitely viable in competitive play! Give it a shot, i recommend the yoshi bike (and lots of practice)
Thanks for explaining!
I’m so proud of you! Could you explain look-ahead next?
@@Mr_Spudder yep I keep stopping and I just want to learn to look ahead! I think that should help my times go down!
@@Humulator yeah, it really helps when there is a seamless transition from collecting the item boxes to my first F2L pair.
Wait so inside drift isn't bad? I've been using a combo with inside drift since I got the game and it feels really good to control, especially on 200cc.
As someone who the first time i played MK8 used the comet i guess i just got so used to it & " inside drift " that i dont think i can go back at this point lol finding out that inside drift was so niche & considered more difficult was such a shock to me a few months back. Awesome video ! :))
I always used the master cycle and when I used wiggled for the very first time( I don’t use it I use bidy buggy) I thought it was weird. Now I can’t go back to inside drift lol
this is going to be a bit of a dumb question but why are they called inside and outside drift
I believe it has to do with how the vehicle positions itself when performing a drift. An outside drift vehicle positions the rear of the vehicle towards the opposite direction you are drifting, so if you drift left the rear of the car is positioned right. Inside drift instead commits to that direction you are turning and character leans into that same direction. So if start your drift in the left, instead of the rear being positioned right your character leans into the left and maintain their current alignment when starting the drift.
@@HowlingDoom thank you
Dude same. I always use yoshi bike in the past like 7 years of playing the game and I never knew it was considered wierd to use lol. Iv gotten so used to it its hard to play on a normal kart
As someone who mains inside drift and didn't really know the differences between them, I'm actually kind of annoyed that the style I'm very used to is considered subpar. Kind of makes sense how some tracks seem unfair to me, but I still won't switch to outside drift because I'm so used to inside.
gotta run time trials and optimize ya lines as much as possible.
I love how Shortcut was so chill with his imposter and he basically created an epic rivalry for less than 5 minutes
Tip for using inside drift, think of the track being split down the middle, when using outside drift u start from the side close to the turn and end on the side further from the turn, but it's reversed for inside drift so you go from outside to in(I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I tried my best getting my tip across)
Inward drifting works like motobikes in real life. When you want to take a line, you start from the outside and when the angle of the turn comes you get as close to the inside as possible
Inside Drift is surprisingly underrated but it has a really good niche
Actually no it's not underrated in mk8dl because it sucks
@@tobyzilla2.074 It doesn't suck
@@PhantomOfficial07 go play mario kart wii and try inside drift in that game
i tried to learn inside drift and i ended up forgetting how to do outside drift 😭😭
@@cereal_snakeTake it and it
Yknow I normally never watch just Mario kart content but this is pretty good, sub earned!
Isn’t one of the strats with inward drift to *_not_* always actually _drift?_ I’m trash at it, but it is my understanding that just turning with those bikes is a stronger handling that’s preferred in some cases, for turns where you can’t get much of a mini-turbo boost anyway. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I actually think just turning will actually charge up the mini-turbo, albeit a bit slower! Is that mechanic never useful?

Man this is a great channel! Subbed!
i also think that (ik what ur doing)
As someone who mainly used the sport bike from Mario Kart 8's release all the way to wave 5 of the booster pass (and used the mach bike before in MKWii) I appreciate you at least giving it a shot!
Shortcat hearts A LOT of comments, except the ones that mention the similarities between him and jperm. Kinda makes me think that there’s more to shortcat than meets the eye…

honestly im so used to inside drift that outside drift feels like im slipping all over the place 💀

Playing inside drift is really fun! My main is actually Yoshi Comet.
Until blooper
Or cheese land
Or Neo Bowser
Or dragon driftway 200
Or literally any other traction course ever
The inside drift struggle 😭 it is fun tho
@@Shortcat321same with cubing I love it do you
One good inside drift combo is Yoshi/Daisy class, Comet, Roller and Balloon Glider. Comet has by far the best stats for inside drifting.
A fellow comet enjoyer I see
Yoshi Bike also has the same stats as Comet.
I genuinely thought the meta was inside drift cause I always thought that the sharper turns would be better. Learning it was not as good was a shock
I can’t believe you played with the real shortcat!
I was maining inside drift since the game came out and I never got used to outside drift. Realizing that inside drift is niche and so many people struggle with it seems so unreal for me, since I struggle with outside drift a lot.
It’s kinda sad how inside drift died. It was so good and op on the wii
tbh u could rlly make it big as a youtuber, keep it up man
As someone who pretty much exclusively plays inside drift and never bothered to learn outside drift this was a fun perspective
I normally play on inside drift and didn't know there was a different but did realize that I was a bit worse with the other bike I would use and stopped using it. I normally use my mii, master cycle (and tried using the mastercycle 0 only to not like it, also it was slower in speed), off-road (normally retro but occasionally normal), and the hylian glider.
Inside drift funky, sport bike, slim tires and wario wing, my beloved combo
4710 Subscriber, glad I found you!
Very high quality video, love it.
inside drift growing on you as you had more practice was cool to watch; I always loved to play Link in full hyrulean bike :D
How did Mario Kart Wii's meta of inside drift bikes fall so far?
Another interesting thing is that in mkwii, inside drift is even better thanks to wheelies. Since after a drift, you come out facing the direction of the wheelie
O, is that the yoshi bike? I loooove the yoshi biiiiiikkkeeee
Wait, this is just how I normally play…
I main inside drift and the main problem I have with it is the low traction combos.
With an example with yoshi yoshi bike slick tires (I just like the way the slick looks) when I start a drift mainly when effected by bloopers, my drift will start to look like an outside drift.
It’s not really a problem just more of a complaint.
Let's Go Baby! Inside drifters have optimized stats now!
No one talking about the fact Shortcat found another Shortcat in the same room lol
I notice some of these people you played with. I play this game too much oml
My main combo is funky Kong sports bike (which has inside drift)
i use cat peach sport bike cyber slick and peach parasol, not because its good or anything i just like how they look lol
Good thing you uploaded, had nothing more to watch from you man.
one time i asked my much more knowledgeable girlfriend what inside drift means and i decided to use it
when i got 10th she was mad at me lol
When I do solo play, I typically play with an inside drifting kart because it’s so much fun compared to regular karts. Inside lines can go crazy online.
i dont even play this game, im just watching because his happiness is so cuteee
you cant turn. YOU CANT TURN. THE WHOLE COOL THING ABOUT INSIDE DRIFT WAS IT COULD TURN (on mkwii)

I actually main medium mii, yoshi bike, sponge, paper glider as I’ve noticed the extra traction helps a TON for in-drift especially. Always cool to see in-drift videos for MK8!
i (used to) main metal mario on the yoshi bike with animal crossing tires, and the paper glider
I've been a inside drift user since the Wii and Wii U days and I still main it today.
So I'm glad to see people are trying them out a bit more these days because I do believe they are very underrated and slept on.
That said I do think inside drifters has some massive issues that makes them worse in most cases over outside drifters, mainly due to these 6 issues.
1) They require you to know the map since you can't see what's is around the corner so you are more likely to hit a banana mid drift.
2) They simply don't drift sharp enough so certain maps like Dragon driftway and Bowser Neon city requires you to hit the breaks constantly even on 150cc.
3) they are alot less forgiving if you get stuck in grass or hit a wall since they will basically toss you in some random direction at times and they can't save themselves to correct their direction with jumping like outsiders can.
4) on 200CC they really struggle a lot more that outside drifters (not saying they are bad you can 100% make em work)
5) they are usually not that great at shortcuts.
6) they are hard hit by slippery maps and bloopers.
There is a reason why inside drifters aren't used for time trials.
Imo for insiders to truly shine, a buff to how sharp they can turn is needed, to compensate for this a reduction to quickly they gain mini-turbo stacks would be 100% justified.
I think making inside drifters turn as sharp on heavies as babies can right now would be a good start, and then from there mid weight would turn sharper, and babies even sharper.
maybe more than this needed, but its a good start.
for the second point, you can actually do those turns without braking, it just depends on how you enter the turn.
for online, inward drift has a couple big advantages over outside too. When drifting around a turn, you have a really great angle to throw shells back and look backwards that karts just don't have
@@placidmink2537 Ohh for sure, but it hardly worth it over not being able to see what's around the corner in front of you.
But you're right its def one advantage Insiders has but when I'm mid drift I usually try and focus more on not hitting a banana around the corner, since I can't see it.
@@placidmink2537 even if you turn in a very good time, there are certain times where breaking is necessary, or else you will end up taking a biiiiig curve, so for heavies you will fall off the stage, mid weight will barely make it, and babies will also barely be able to, but respectable. (hence i think heavies should be able to drift as sharp as babies can rn)
so yes you're right you might still be on the track but you will have been passed by literally all the other racers before you're back to the mid road.
Yeah its so strange how hard they nerfed the handling for inside drift. They already nerfed it by adding the portion at the start of the drift where you can't turn
As always, a rlly entertaining vid and I’m happy there are fake ‘shortcats’ because it means that you’re getting popular
I've been maining the Comet ever since I read an old MK8 guidebook showing a lot of world records that used it, but I've only just learned what inside drift is! That explains why it always feels so weird trying to drift with most other vehicles lol
i used to main inside drift but i stopped using it recently because you can’t do tricks like super bounce, correction hopping, mini turbo tricks (i think), and some shortcuts. soft drifting is broken though, as you can snake with ease and take turns super well. i love it, and if they add those mechanics back i’m definitely switching back
They punished inward bikes a little too hard in this game imo. I really hope they improve the drifting in future patches but that seem very unlikely tho.
as an inside drifter this was a comforting watch to know that i'm justified in struggling with some tricks and courses
Inside drift is love.
It feels so good making all these meta players lose just because I take all curves sharper and cleaner than them. I'm long at the point where I feel outside drift is the weird one
Jet bike forever!
Agreed! It’s so funny at like the end of the race to take the turn better then them and win 😂
Yes Jet Bike forever!! 🧡
back in the MKWII days I used inside drift a lot, I really felt that it was the superior choice, but now playing MK8D I had to swap to outside drift because most of the time you really feel like you get punished for using inside drift in this tracks
They nerfed the handling so hard on inside drift. They also buffed outside drift to not do the sideways momentum thing from Wii.
I'd absolutely love a flamerunner DLC. Maybe a bit more balanced than in Wii though.
No
With the way "inside drifting" is in this game it wouldn't even be broken
13:04 That is so funny. Already an imposter because you have such hardcore fans, I'm crying. 😭✋
Inside drift is so wierd... but i love it. It takes a little bit to get used to. However once i got used to it i kinda prefer it over the regular drifting. Its hard to go back to the old drifting for me, except for 200cc depending on the track.
And for the mini turbos i have no issue getting them but i do use yoshi for the most part.
Yeah there's a way to get mini turbos, and its not the way I'm doing it. On outside drift, you can simply turn sharper than necessary, and hop to realign. On inside drift, you can't do that, so I think I should just be holding a straight drift near the end for more charge.
I use comet and standard wheels/glider and it has decent stats and I find it really fun to play. Before this I used to pick my kart combo based purely off of what I think looks cool so I'd almost always pick bad combos
At around the 14 minute mark i couldn't stop laughing at you hitting the dry Bowser 4 times haha
Hello! I've been practicing speedcubing for a while now and have achieved a consistent solve time of under 13 seconds using the CFOP method. However, I'm currently contemplating whether or not I should devote my time and energy towards learning the ZBLL method in order to improve my solve times even further. I was wondering if you could share your personal thoughts and experiences on whether ZBLL is a viable method to learn, considering its potential effectiveness and the level of time and effort required to master it. Any insights you could provide would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
dont, zbll isnt worth it until you’re like world class

@@squirrelcubed31415 I am aware
I never realized the Yoshi Bike opens its hand depending on the direction you're turining and opens both of its hands when airborne, actually adorable
4:57 how did you get more rating than the guy in first?
Because he has a lower vr he gained more
When using inside drift vehicles, go for heavier characters, such as Wario or Warluigi with acceleration glider and rollers / GLA tires. Mini turbo is not that important in these circumstances, but speed really is.
i love this channel so much, your commentary is great and every vid is really entertaining. i hope to see this channel grow so much!

I started using inside drift just to mess with my friends a while back, but I’ve mained yoshi bike for so long now that I can hardly use outside drift anymore
Sometimes I use inside drift for when I’m beating time trial ghosts in a course with many jagged turns, like Toad Harbor, or icy tracks, like Sherbet Land.
Dude I had no clue you only have 6 videos and 5k subscribers, I thought you made it already 😂 you’re set to grow, the videos are great, entraining, and you are a great person by the sound of it, love your vids, will be watching forever.
Ive been using the Sport Bike since like 2018 lol, seeing someone struggle with how the drift feels (as someone who thinks its the best form of drifting in MK8) makes me wonder if ive just gotten too used to playing MK8 like its MKWii
I think this form of drifting isn't bad at all, but Nintendo really screwed with the turning sharpness and the camera angle.
@Shortcat I guess I understand not liking the camera angling (albeit I've never really noticed it was bad) but the sharp turning is what I always really liked about inside drifting bikes. Idk. Let's me race very tight and strict lines which nobody else takes and gives me a sort of upper hand advantage because of it
There are definitely advantages, and taking different lines from everybody else is pretty sweet to avoid items!
inside drift requires diferent timing, drift later than normal.
I’m so confused. Is ‘inside drift’ just the way bikes drift in the game?
oh god is this why im bad? ive been playing with inside drift this whole time
this guy is defo j perm
@Shortcat321 if you have issues with inside drift commit to the turn but carefully tilt the stick away from the direction your going instead of to control the drift.
@23:35 is he referring to the lighting coming from the top of the clouds? I never really considered it til he brought it up. .... but wouldn't the sun be above the clouds anyhow and cast a shadow underneath? am I missing something here?
the one thing i wish they fixed for inside drift is the camera. just turn it a bit more towards the curve, you would at least see whats infront of you
That would be so nice
I hope you get Yoshi Circuit, in my personal experience you can smoke that track with inward drift
When playing inside drift, the camera doesnt adjust to your drifting angle.
In my opinion thats what sucks the most, because as long as you dont know the entire course from memory, you just dont see where you going.
Outside drift is a lot better for looking into a corner. Am I the only one who hears outside drift is a lot better for lookahead? Congrats on 1.5M subs
I don't even have this game, but I watched the whole video in a hypnotized state
i just switched to karts from inside drift and OMG its so much better!
I had no idea what inside drift was until I looked it up because of this video. I'm simply too stubborn to use anything but my boy Link and his master cycle tho. I don't even care, style over function lol. I think I'm decent at it at least.
To be honest in mario kart 8 I've learned the hard way to NEVER USE INSIDE DRIFT!!! In mario kart 8 because it sucks while in mario kart wii inside drift is pretty fun to use
Tbh I like the looks of my insider drifter kart and now that I’m used to it I can never go back
One day I’ll try to learn outside drift
I only recently started looking into advaced techniques for mario kart and dident know inside drift wasent normal
drinking game: take a shot every time he says “inside drift”
I hated inside drift bikes for the absolute longest time. However, ever since I reached the 200cc Grand Prix races, I've realized they are pretty much the only bikes in the game that can drift "normally" at such speeds. I've kind of fallen in love with the Master Cycle ever since.
