I have been hoping we’d get an update for this. WOW! Who knew the world we’d be living in when this arrived. Hope you and all your viewers and fans are healthy, happy and safe and sane.
I am building a 1/350 TOS Enterprise watching all your build series’s on it and they are very helpful! Thanks Boyd and I am really enjoying this build!
Nice the color is amazing I'm a die hard trek fan I'm excited to see the old girl come together keep up the great work boyd ....u and ur family be safe 🖖
Thanks Boyd. I love using these paints. I think the company’s should send you a bonus check. You’ve single handedly sold every bottle of heather gray and faded jade in existence. :)
Awesome news!! The live shows are coming back!! Thanks to you and Kenny and others for giving us a much needed fun distraction during these crazy times! Thanks man. :)
Love those acrylic paints! Thanks for the heads up on the colors!! Also, looking forward to the new show. Any day is good for an old retired guy like me! Never thought I would ever hear myself say that!! LOL
I appreciate the well wishes. I don’t have the patience to work with spray paints but can appreciate the attention to detail and safety measures required to do it safely and cleanly. One of my hobbies is wood working which is dusty and finished a project with French polish so I can appreciate your work from that perspective. I hope you’re stocked up on face masked and cartridges!
Completely missed this last update from April 3rd, nice to get to watch it through. Amazing to see how well the water-based paint covered the piece. Nice idea of using the tripod from the utility work-lights as a base. Looking forward to seeing updates as they are made.
I grew up watching the low quality repeats of Star Trek in the early 70's. And to me the hull color looked like a light biege. So when I got my very first 1701 kit that's exactly what I did was paint it beige. (I thought it looked good too).. It's so nice now to know exactly what the color should be if I ever build another one
I must be either weird, in a bad mood, or the rest of the world has gone mad while I stay sane, but the monotony is to the point of literally putting to sleep, and with such an awesome and exciting subject, I can’t imagine why not show more of the project and less of the builder.
Awesome video! Super excited for the new live shows. One of the things that came with my Paasche airbrush set was a fat needle and 3-4" fan tip. Can paint large areas with thick paint, but can go through it rather quick.
Awesome to hear that you are coming back to love shows!! I won't be missing them :) I love the ideas you have for displaying that big Enterprise it is going to be really cool. Enjoyed watching the paint mixing too and totally agree a small airbrush doesn't make sense on that big gal. Cannot wait to see you live buddy!!
Thanks Kenny, it's not going to be a formal show, you're already doing a great job with yours. Just casual bench work and chatting with the viewers along the way. I want to make sure I'm not streaming at the same time you are on your scheduled times. Have to get with you on that.
I'm working on a 1:350 refit version right now. Just finished the arboretum, shuttle bay and officers lounge. Gonna start the saucer and other things tomorrow.
Boyd did you ever do anymore videos in this series, I can’t seem to find any. I am especially interested in how you did the orange bussard covers and the matching of the rest of the paint colors too.
Nice update Boyd,it's a pity the resin Reliant project stalled,i still have my kit to build, but really would have been nice to have some photo etch to bling up the details. Stay safe buddy.
Ta da. 1. Love your channel. 2. I don't mean to sound like a Prick, and I have little room to talk as I have not done near as much as you on YT with displaying My modeling talents, but I and others are wondering if you got burned out on this project, and or when you might be working on it again. 3. Also, I think there is one other modeler on YT that was building this model, and If memory serves me right who ever produced these models don't make them any longer. 4. I started an Archery company, and I sell custom Archery bows, which is slightly off the point with Star Trek, and or Modeling, however in making our custom bows, we purchased 4 3D printers and are looking at purchasing some larger ones in the near future. So the idea of making a 1/72 scale Constitution class TOS Starship is one step closer to being a possibility for me. I have already scaled plans for all 3 ships from the show several years ago, and was surprised at the 13 foot and quarter inch length of the Constitution class was how large it would be in 1/72 scale. The Romulan Bird of Prey (Balance or Terror, TOS) in contrast is near 3 feet long x 4 feet wide x 19 inches tall. Yea they really made them look quite larger for the TV screen. I do think with the world filling up with 3D printers there can be and will be some cool modeling projects coming about. both in scratch build, and model kits/parts. Anyway, if I start building I think the Romulan first as it is the smallest and would be a good test to start with, I will make some logs. I just have to balance it in with My string tying for the bows, and the painting/assembly for the archery. That is work though and hobbies can also be work, but they should be fun as well. Keep on a modeling, and I will be in touch. Great channel you have going here, I will endeavor to get mine into focus as well.
@@TrekWorks Thank You for the reply. LOL, I assume the people that made the Bridge for the model kit can 3D print you a 158 scale Shuttle Craft for it, if they already didn't. If not give me a holler and I will see if I can pop one out on My chemical printer. Honestly I am about a hairlength away from getting My business partner excited enough about the Idea of designing a 158 scale TOS Romulan BOP. I have the plans for 1/72 as I have mentioned before, but I also have the 3D model of the ships in Blender files. So all I would need to do is run the scale measurements so we can STL close loop the parts, and then make the parts to fit into the size range to put together like a puzzle. Easy right. The scaling wouldn't be hard. The design for the printer would be. I don't know. If we start working on it. I will post. Peace out Boyd. Eldan at Blue Dragon Archery.
A little at a time but it'll get there the same in the end ;) Been meaning to ask you, do you do much flying either RC or the real deal around the Beaumont TX area?
@@TrekWorks Hey man! I've been up here and there in the Cessna flying from a airport in the next county. As for RC stuff,I've got back into my planes ,choppers, and a boat.☺
Nice plan! What about some sort of ball joint to ‘pose’ the model at different angles? Like on a camera tripod. You can tighten it down at various cool poses.
You could do the console in the style of the original series control panels on the bridge. To reduce glare, the screen could be recessed an inch or two. That would allow you to make a cover in the style of the old buttons for de-powered static mode.
Looks like this is on the back burner. Any news regarding progress? Much can be learned regarding why things stopped as well as how they proceeded. Your comments would be interesting.
As always your builds and videos are outstanding. I have a word of caution however regarding your tall stand. I have and use the stand with the lights from the home improvement store. I find that when the stand is extended as you are proposing it can be top heavy and can tip. I would be concerned that with the additional weight and height of the model that there would be a potential hazard of it getting tipped over especially if people are interacting with it. You might want to consider a way to secure the legs to a wider base with some weight or heft to balance it better.
Thank you for sharing that color mix .I will use it on my DDC colonial Viper MKII . I still have to find 1/17 scale decals . Any Ideas on where to look ?
Do you know where the guy bought a 72 inch version from? Any idea on cost? I'm a bit worried about the tripod stand and it falling/tipping over. I guess you can always throw some sandbags on the legs of the tripod. Thanks for answering the questions if you see them and know the answer :P
Boyd: Will there be more of these videos on your progress with the 72 inch Starship Enterprise NCC-1701? I'm dying to see your progress. (Also, can you mention where you were able to buy the 72 inch model kit). I've not been able to find one anywhere. Blessings. John
Hey Boyd luv the channel and all the helpful tips, thanks! Just curious though and sorry if I missed it in another video, but why did you switch paints? What happened to the the auto paint you use to use and mix up? Do you still use it? Is it a matter of what type of material you are working with? Maybe another video on the subject? Take care and thanks.
I’m hoping to build my first model and have chosen the 1/350 TOS model. Would using the smaller airbrush you showed in the video be an okay substitute as long as I distance it enough to prevent running?
It's carbon fiber, a lot lighter than plastic or fiberglass. Should only be in the 20-30 lb range. Pretty good considering the 8 foot Refit model weighed north of 300 lbs not counting the massive pedestal it's mounted on.
Amazing. You said you're in the process of doing 2 TOS 350 Enterprise builds. Are you still doing Commissions for them? I've tried emailing several times with no answer.
Lacquer is pretty outdated these days. Acrylics are much better being less resistant to scratches and cracking and fading over time. Also the water based acrylics are completely non toxic.
