Returning From Blackpool In A Santa Hat In My Eurostar SL | Radio Issues & Traffic | Let's Go Flying

- The return flight from Blackpool featuring lots of traffic and an annoying radio fault. I also talk through how I navigate the Manchester Low Level Route safely.
Really enjoyed this and the perspective it gives of how peaceful solo-flying is! Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more👍🏼😊
Edit: A landing so smooth not even a jenga tower would fall over!
Haha that’s a good one - I’ve not heard that before! Thank you for your support - I’m really pleased you enjoy the videos!
Nice! I, too, used to like flying on good days in the winter when the air is dense and flying controls are crisp and positive. Great for aerobatics! I remember high pressure days in winter where the inversion topped out around 1,500 feet - poor viz below that but then one popped out of it and you could see forever - the mountains of the Lake District and of North wales looking near enough to touch. The only problem was - no heater in the Chipmunk so it could get bluddy cold!
I like your lookout for 'where to go if the engine stops' when in the LLR. I used to do the same; most times I went flying it was west from Barton then down the LLR to Crewe and south from there. I once met the BBMF coming the other way at Winsford, Manchester calling us to each other as opposite direction traffic. As the Lancaster confirmed "we have the chippy" the Spitfire on its left wingtip peeled off, did a perfect barrel roll as a salute, then straight back onto the Lanc's wing. Made my day!
My avatar of me in the Chippy was taken at Kenyon Hall Farm BTW.

Thanks for watching again Vince! Sounds incredible - memories to last a lifetime there! I didn’t realise the Chipmunk didn’t have a heater though! I did wonder about that photo - and now I know! Happy holidays sir!
@@LetsGoFlying And all the best for the season to you & yours matey!
The front seat in the Chippy wasn't too bad in Winter if you wrapped up well, but the back seat was icy being away from the firewall and with a wicked draught curling under the back of the canopy. The 2 hour 'safe' fuel endurance (9 gallons per side, 6 gallons per hour consumption - obviously quite a bit more if you did aeros) was in winter about the physical 'cold soak' limit for the back seat. We used to share flights, one being P1 outbound and in the front, then swap for the return.
Summer flights with the canopy slid back were superb!
Please keep bringing us these superb videos - it keeps the memories alive for old gits like me!

Good eye spotting the other aircraft Nick! I like the plane, all metal, low wings providing great views for other traffic and no need to tip the wing before a turn. Feels much different I bet from the last aircraft, swifter as well. Thanks for the ride and be well.
I enjoyed that video! Also, really helpful with regard to the LLC… for some reason I find the concept intimidating, but you seem quite comfortable & at home with routing in & around it 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it can be an intimidating piece of airspace - it’s almost like a tunnel as it’s got a floor, sides and a roof! Sometimes when it’s busy it can be a bit lairy but they have just approved a change to the airspace there which means it will be easier and safer for all very soon which is exciting! Don’t let it put you off though - it’s very easy!
Merry Christmas and a happy new year Nick. Looking forward to more of your videos in 25.
Same to you. Thank you! 🙏
Thought I had commented on this Nick? Maybe I am confused over the outbound leg! Great stuff. Looking forward to your 2025 adventures. 😎
Ha yes this was the return leg! You did indeed comment on part 1! Same to you Tim - looking forward to seeing more of your adventures. We must meet up for a cup of tea/breakfast/lunch somewhere when the weather turns for the better. Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year!
It's not really felt like Christmas for a while now Nick, no snow and we are getting older
Hope you and Anna and Faith have a brilliant day though 🎄🎁🍽️❄️🧑🏼🎄🤶🏼
Have a great Christmas too Phil! Thanks for watching 😊
Excellent video. I intend to have my first flight next week and is looking forward to capturing the ATC using a GoPro12. How are you doing that in your flight?
M6 motoway would be a option to land but might have a few car insurance claims 🤣
I’d definitely sooner aim for a very short field. I’d rather hit a hedge at 30mph than risk being hit by a car/truck!
@@LetsGoFlying yes 👍
👍
Cheers Steve!
Oh wow, you braved the Santa hat again.😂 what if your head gets itchy? Because I see your head set is over the hat.
Haha I did and it definitely did have some itchy moments. It smelled funny too - like chemicals from the factory it came out of so I was half expecting to have some kind of rash on my head from it but luckily I didn’t 😂
What was the radio/intercom issue and the solution?
The terminals were a bit grubby so I cleaned them and the sockets and it seems to have done the job!
A very enjoyable vlog. I'm with you all the way on available places to land, especially flying the low level route. You do a great job which also keeps your confidence levels up 👌🏻 Of course you always have the M6 as a last resort in a heavily built up area with nowhere else to go... just avoid the bridges! 🫣 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! Yes it’s my biggest concern with the corridor - limited landing options if the donkey stops so I try and mitigate it by going “field to field” as well as practising forced landings to keep me sharp. Not sure I’d fancy my chances on the M6 with the standard of driving down there being what it is 🤣
@@LetsGoFlying 🤣 fair comment!
What airport did u land in there ?
How can I come on a flight?
I don’t do trial flights but you can book one with your local flying school by finding your nearest and giving them a ring. That’s how I got started and I’ve not looked back since!
Hi good morning you really nedd to get some Doublebase Gell for that itchy knee befofe it gets worse cos it surly will ! Hope you and Anna have a great Christmas looking forward to seeing you both in the New Year .
@@LetsGoFlying I don't want to do a trial. I just wanna come for a laugh lol
Another nice video, thank you.
A suggestion - if possible inserting a Sky Demon image showing your route and position at intervals makes it easier to follow what's happening.
I don't know how difficult that is to do though.
Thanks again for posting your videos.
Great idea. I need to start doing this - thank you for the suggestion I think it’s a really good idea! Thank you for watching as well 🙏
