Hello? This is Hyeseong Jin, a golf master. I always get one-point lessons and practice, and the results are very good. As a result of practicing while enjoying your lessons, I became a golf master in Korea. We will continue to study and practice hard in the future. We will challenge until we become number one in the world. thank you.
Jon your two part series on the trail elbow on takeaway and down swing were absolutely great! I learned a lot. One of the best instructional videos on youtube hands down! Thank you!!
Stumbled on your video series out of frustration with stalled progress and this one particular video did more for my golf swing then the previous hundred articles, subscription videos , and lessons combined. Seems one of my major faults was getting my trail elbow trapped on the downswing and once I ran your drills there was major improvement in distance and consistency. Can't thank you enough and looking forward to going through your series
+mediumdun18 Great news, thanks for getting in touch. I'm very glad to hear of your improvements following my instruction. Keep up the good work and let me know if I can help with online coaching! Kind regards, Jon
Congratulations great video so well explained. David leadbetter did this same drill in the golf swing video in 1990 With the right arm using a golf ball. But I like the idea of the right elbow being central to this movement . I hit from the top and my lead arm is higher than my trail arm at the start of the downswing. I also have a poor transition. Your video on the hips role in the downswing demonstrates beautifully how the right shoulder must not outrace the hips. Thanks John blagg high handicap chalgrave golf club
Very good video. I’ve been coached that golf is a left side swing. I’ve also been coached to feel like I’m skipping a stone. Four video is much clearer in describing how to skip a stone. During the swing should it feel more left or right sided? Thanks
Great vid and exercise, but can you make a video on right wrist or both wrist? Does it right wrist stay bend or cocked? I always don’t know what do to or when to unhinge and hinge again on the release.
+Albany Fx Will do thanks! I have filmed one on the roles of the wrists in the backswing and another on the downswing that would be worth checking out!
with open club face dictating direction to the right first, i m trying with hitting to the left and getting over fade most with all clubs. what could be the reasons, Jon? Thnks.
+Antony Do Hi Anthony, hard to say without seeing you. It just sounds like your path is out to in and therefore left of the clubface aim at impact. This will produce the curve to the right. Check your divot lines
Yes everything you say is true. However to make things a bit easier for me I start my backswing with right elbow inwards. Once locked I take my full back swing to right elbow under my hand. My downswing starts with lead foot down and my elbow returns closer inside to my right hip at max lag of my club; my right forearm arm quickly unfolding at impact. At 70 years old I think I finally got it correct. Would you agree?
The whole issue of the trail elbow has been a struggle for me. I can feel what it's supposed to do using your drill with the lead hand supporting the trail elbow (both the backswing and downswing videos), but without that support I fall back into old habits. Those old habits involve my club going a bit too deep, a relatively flat arm plane, the arms continuing to go back after my shoulders stop rotating and the right elbow probably folding too much and ending up behind me rather than staying more in front of me. That puts me in a difficult position to initiate the downswing with the trail elbow staying back by my side, slightly steepening the club in the transition. As I say, I can get into the proper backswing and downswing positions using the lead hand and arm drill, but not sure how it translates into achieving the right positions and movements in a real swing. I can speculate that the momentum of the club and arms in the backswing just carries me too far around and behind. Any thoughts about how momentum in a full speed swing might affect things and how to fix that? Or do I just keep doing the drill and it will eventually "click"? It's a good video, by the way, on an important topic. Thanks!
Many thanks Dave. I would keep at the exercises and possible slow down the backswing, even feeling a slight pause if that helps. I hope your keeping well and getting some golf in!
I think that you should a) you should consciously realize that your right elbow scythes down toward the point of your right hip in the downswing, and b) you should rehearse this move with your practice swing before you hit the ball. When you hit the ball, you should think of syncing your right elbow to your right hip on the way to impact. Your swing thoughts should be "scything & syncing".
John I enjoy your videos but you are a young flexible man and I am an old bugger of 67 who is not as flexible and I can't keep my right trailing elbow in a vertical position in the back swing plus I can only get my left arm back half way. Can you do a couple of videos for us old inflexible guys?
+Robert Bernard Thanks Robert! Been called many things but not sure I've been called flexible before 😂 . Check this one out ua-cam.com/video/V4Q-jZkXsG8/v-deo.html filmed with Snr golfers in mind!
I have done a lot of videos on this. I would change the release first if curving right? Then path. This will help ua-cam.com/video/ZZqN09G1-ac/v-deo.html I have done lots on drills to stop over the top also. And a good one on leave your hands up if you search 👍🏼
+Nike Golfer the trail elbow should reach straight just post impact rather than before. It doesn't feel a weak move to me, try throwing a ball first the right hand only

Thank you for both your videos. Just what I have been looking for.
Glad to help Graham 👍🏻

Usually this part of the swing is not discussed. So glad to have yr video. And yes, it looks like skimming a flat stone over a pond. Thank you
+Alfred Mol Absolutely, thanks for watching and the comment
The Mystery of the right arm.
Good video.
Cheers : FJN
Thank you
Nice addition to part one, again added to my great drills folder.
Excellent pro; taught me at Brocton, worth a visit or 3 guys, you do get a lot of good solid info from Jon in my opinion. Helped me a great deal.
+keyways1 Thanks very much for your kind comments! Trying to work out who this is from your username on here?
Thank you for this video. Would love to know more about your sim setup?
Hi Robert, I’m not at Drayton anymore. But have just set up a new studio elsewhere. Will be filming in there soon! What info can I help with?
Awesome video! Thanks! That is what I do, move my right elbow behind me when I start down, get stuck, and flip!
Very good Teaching, love your steps
+Mr TONY Many thanks 👍

At least your aware of your faults John, first step in improving 👍🏻
Thank you for another great video Jon

John just thinking can you do a part three incorporating getting body more involved in follow through. Thanks
Sure, start at a slower pace to get the movement of the elbow correct and then start to increase rotational speed!
Great tips many thanks Jon
+Jason Evans Thanks Jason

Great vide, nothing new but extremely well explained, better then most! :-)

Does this work for the Driver as well?
Yes definitely

The ball flight would tell you! If you can create a consistent powerful flight then it must Ben working. Sounds good thought

Nice work .One new sub 👍
Welcome! Thanks Dale 👍🏼
useful video can u help me to improve my swing please
I coach around 35 players online a month. Happy to help if you would like some info? 👍🏻

Glad to hear that Alan 👍🏻
How do I stop coming over the top? I have done it for 30 years.
I have done a lot of videos on this. I would change the release first if curving right? Then path. This will help ua-cam.com/video/ZZqN09G1-ac/v-deo.html I have done lots on drills to stop over the top also. And a good one on leave your hands up if you search 👍🏼
Is this the same on right elbow on a driver? Do u want it extend before impact?
+Albany Fx It depends on shaft lean, the power hitters will still have a little bend in the trail elbow. Definitely something to aim for 👍
Why does it feel so weak to keep the elbow bent?
+Nike Golfer the trail elbow should reach straight just post impact rather than before. It doesn't feel a weak move to me, try throwing a ball first the right hand only
Sometimes I just think of swinging my elbows and take my forearms and hands out of it
