Right elbow to belly button was a game changing thought for me. Never realized it but my right arm was stuck behind me resulting in all kinds of mishits. This channel is a gold mine!
I’d bet 70% or more of low handicap players STILL don’t get their hands back in front fast enough during transition. I’ve shot some pretty low numbers over the years and I STILL have to work on it. I blame the 90s golf instruction for teaching people that if you slide, then turn, the hips correctly in transition, they will pull the arms through impact and it’s automatic 😢
Love your instruction and drills. I have been taking lessons for years and I have learned more watching you on UA-cam than I have in person with the many instructors over the years! Your coaching is easy to digest and answers the many questions that I have had regarding the “why.” Thank you for posting your lessons. I am a fan and will continue watching and learning!

Great lesson. This one is great for me because I’m a lefty playing golf righty. So pulling through thinking of back of left arm is awesome! Keep em comin! Thank you!
Me too! This is the only channel I watch now for golf instruction. I’m starting to see the results on course. So hard to bring my range swing to the big show. I get compliments on my short game constantly. I can see the glaring flaws in playing companions.

The left tricep working down, while keeping the right elbow in front has completely changed my game. This move, in combination with the left should initiating the takeaway, has made my swing feel effortless and consistent. Being a left handed player who shoots righty, having the majority of my swing based off the lead side, has helped me tremendously. Another top tier video here!
Im the same I'm left handed but shoot/play golf right handed- do you have any other swing tips/feels that helped? - im a high handicapper but struggle to hit and flight my irons (and with a slice ha!)
I've been combing through UA-cam videos for 3 weeks trying to find something that would help me fix my pull draw. This video did it. Thank you so much sir.
Trying to focus yesterday on keeping my right elbow in front of me (not to the side) I also corrected the fault of coming over the top and when you think about it, it's impossible to come over the top if you keep his elbow in front. You are the best pro I have seen on the net and I have seen many. You live golf and I'm sure you even see mistakes before they happen. Many thanks for this help and others. Please continue. Ha ha! It’s so funny you say that because we actually do! Can’t tell you the number of time to go look at someone and tell them what’s about to happen before it does! We truly appreciate you watching all the way from Thailand! And yes if that right elbow stays working correctly it gets very hard to come over the top!
Another great video Adam and all there is a misconception in downswing where a lot of instructors say the right elbow needs to come into your side but all that is doing is keeping the club behind you and your arms don't have the room to swing through and pass your body like you explain in this video
Great video. I love the semi-real-time lesson feel. The principles are very sound and very well told. Not at all 'leave the hands up and rotate' as per some coach's mantra. Amazing swing from the young lady. Very cool! Can I just ask one thing...why do the hands finish very low and left? Is that something you work on or her own embellishment? What is your stance on that?
I have over 600 golf instruction videos saved on my golf channel. I’ve watched many more. Read all the books from Hogan on… this is a great golf swing video! I took this to the range and with what felt like a half swing, hit the ball 20 yards further on each club. Still have to practice the movement many times to get it ingrained but feel really good with this swing. Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for the kind words and for sharing! This is exactly why we do what do! To help as many people as possible play better golf and enjoy the worlds greatest game more than ever!
I’ve come heavily from the inside and hit blocks and hooks, a little draw on a good timing day! But since trying to pull through with my left arm and feeling like my right arm is just there for the ride it’s straightened me up no end and hitting my irons much crisper. Thanks Adam 👍
Playing golf for 60Y and only now understanding how the arms do different things in the downswing. Getting amazing results - penetrating straight ball flight with the ball sticking on the green.
A SeaChange in my swing. Thank you Adam. I have watched several lessons of yours about this and I was applying it all wrong then I locked into the feeling of driving the nail in to the wall and left hip clearance to "bring the handle around the corner". The past 2 days I could not miss the center of the face from wedge to driver. My ADD limits me but when I feel it, I do not let it go. After I move to SD, I will drive up your way, without needing a lesson and by you a beer. EPIC bro.
Really like this video. I’m pretty new, self-taught, and it’s been difficult for me understanding the downswing. I think the comment “this is where most golfers lose the club face is exactly what I do.. thank you 👍
Focusing on being left arm dominant in my swing has transformed my golf! I use to hit fats, thins and fought the hooks. Now, my ball fight has straightened out and I’m compressing the ball. Thanks Adam !!!!
Thank you for sharing! This is exactly why we do what do! To help as many people as possible play better golf and enjoy the worlds greatest game more than ever!
Hi Adam, just love your coaching style, its almost like getting golf tuition from your psychologist, wish I could afford you as my personal coach, even at my level which is pretty low, I can understand your lessons, Willie.
Amazing learning experience, as a golfer that is right hand dominant, switching to be left arm dominant is going to be exciting life changing experience for me!
Always enjoy your videos and, as always, great stuff in this one too. I may be wrong but it seems like your student is moving the body almost at the same time as her arms in the downswing. Meaning, her weight transfer happens when the arms are coming down instead of re-centering before reaching the top of the swing. So when the body braces at impact, her arms slow down a bit - this is clear in the face on view slo-mo. Am I right?
Great Point. I tried it out. But my Clubface was little open at the impact and i push the ball. How can i square the Clubface? And is the Drill 1:1 for the Driver?
Wow great video, moving the trail elbow to the belly button and the lead arm dominance make a lot of sense. Always thought the trail arm was more dominant thru the swing
Watching this video something clicked after long time of erratic ball striking this actually clicked with me the elbow in front makes such solid strike
Hi John, at minute 4:55 you achieve the power position with right elbow almost at your belly button. I have two questions. First, at this position, club is totally parallel to ground, and club head perpendicular to ground. How do you achieve ending up hitting the ball totally at the right position in short period of time? Yes, I guess is about hip rotation, but this last impact stage is never explained properly, and looks difficult to do without losing power and accuracy. Second, I never heard about abdominal power and tension at the same position on minute 4:55. Do we have to feel also tension and power on our abdomen? Thanks a lot.
Just found your channel and it's eye opening! I have trouble on the course when my right arm takes over and my swing becomes handsy. Will this left arm lead drill help? Or are there other ways to fix it?
Isn’t that causing the opening of the face heaps at impact? When I do that ball always go to the right. Am I not rotating completely or do I need to change wrist angle to square up the face.
Happens to me too. Typically because I'm standing up early and arms take over. Yes, constant rotation and hand path will take care of that. Hope this helps
Adam, I am not sure you will even see this comment at this late stage but your "dream swing" golfer's right elbow never gets in front of her belly button. I did a frame by frame analysis of her swing, and her right elbow stays in front of her right hip at impact. And at the full release, with both arms straight, her belly button is far left of her right elbow, actually equidistant between the two elbows. In fact, I believe your suggestion of right elbow in front of the belly button before impact tends to prevent a timely start of the release of the club into impact, thereby producing the push you are trying to avoid. I am quite interested in hearing your reply.
John Jacobs said “watch any top golfer and notice how fast his arms separate from his right shoulder as the downswing begins.” Flick and Toski emphasized left arm dominance. Of course body rotation has to be there, but neglecting the arms ( especially the left arm ) is a rabbit hole to be avoided. Please trust me, I’ve been there.🙁 Get that left arm off your chest! Thanks for a real nice instruction video.
I started chipping with that right elbow connected, and just gradually working back to a fuller swing while trying to maintain that connection. I feel like I'm maintaining that impact position and just letting my lower body rotate. I realized I've been losing my connection at the top, resulting in all kinds of mishits. Staying connected has so far been a total eureka moment for me.
REally that is the best way to do build that into your swing - just keep working through the functional swing plane - with your arms and the body rotating together - keep doing that and gradually increase the speed at which you rotate - and you pretty much have it - from there - just reach a little - back and forward - and you got it
it's the fascia line underneath the right arm pit when executed correctly if you feel the left shoulder that is the assist in deceleration of club as the body fascia lines unwind. For me if I feel left shoulder if feels like I overstretched in backswing and overswing in release of club... overstretching an action doesn't necessarily lead to more power or speed
I developed a sore shoulder (probably tendonitis) caused by pulling too much with my lead arm and shoulder. My lead side is my dominant side. I believe there needs to be a balance.
Hey Adam love the video! Question 🙋♂️ Everytime I take videos of myself, I do a pretty decent job of keeping the elbow in and the club parallel, however, I notice that my hands have to snap to release the club and I have the tendency to hit slightly thin. How do I release the club from that parallel position? Is it possible because my elbow is too stuck to my side and it breaks down causing me to snap at the ball?
I too have to really fight hard to avoid the thin shots using Adam's swing. For me it's either a breakdown of the left arm from locked and straight throughout or the spine angle changing more upright in the rotation to strike.
Are you still hitting ground after ball so ball needs to be slightly further forward or are you starting to stand up. I worked on staying down causing a thick strike and going the other way. I was also gripping too tight. Game of millimeters...
When the club is parallel to the ground during the downswing how do you square the club face from there? Seems like a lot to do within a short distance.
I naturally did this with irons by feeling like I shortened my swing. I need this with driver because I get stalled out I can’t remember last time I really timed up and got through a driver. Been missing in both directions with driver. But yes I can feel I lose my arms with the driver
Im left handed and play golf right handed and im already too far the other way on this sensation. I need to feel less left arm pull so my right can catch up or its block city

Im the same and was slicing but now work on keeping my left elbow in, to stop coming over the top. My natural shot is either straight or slight fade. Most lefties I talk too are right handed until using both together like a golf swing.
Hey. My right elbow seems to be stuck on my side and at impact both my arms collapse and a have a major flip. Should I feel like I start the down swing with my arms
@@PorzakGolf Thank you!! I'll give it a try. So glad I found your videos!! Extremely helpful - excellent job of describing the "feels" associated with the proper moves.
Doesn’t it seem odd to think/feel/be left arm dominant about the swing when you are naturally right handed for everything else? I’ve always struggled with that as a concept. It seems suboptimal. It seems like the best idea would be to have your dominant arm be the lead arm if that’s the arm that should be the primarily focus of the motion.

Try keeping your right palm facing the ground as you move through the golf ball, that will keep the face more square.

Does the same apply for the driver?
Yes you just have to stay behind a little bit more with a driver and you will feel the clubhead release a little bit more through the golf ball!
I like the feeling of keeping trail hand facing skyward in transition. That keeps the elbow leading.
The three feels that are really helping me at the moment are
Hammer the nail
Keep hands close to body
Keep rotating
