GREAT video!!!! I've done this repair and THIS is the only video I've seen that actually tells it like it is. Several other videos sugar-coat the repair to make it look WAY easier than it actually is. Don't get me wrong...the repair is TOTALLY do-able...it just takes plenty of patience. Other videos try to make it look easy just so people will buy their kit...don't let their videos deceive you. You need to at least be technologically inclined. GOOD JOB GUYS!!!!!
I would suggest that anyone trying to replace the screen for the first time should try connecting the old lcd wire first so that the can figure out how much force and which placement to use. It will also help avoid bending the new lcd wire. Thumbs up this to help all the newbies.
Thank you, I repaired iPod according to your video. Following steps helped me with white screen: "While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple sign."
Hey Mate, This is a fantastic video to help the untrained like myself. It took quite a while to accomplish, especially the digitiser cable but watching the video over and over gave me the right position. I got the white screen of death but another search and another youtube video got me through that. Thanks again. My son will be on this within minutes of me taking the clamps off. Cheers.
After watching this video about ten times I was able to fix my daughters ipod with a replacement screen and toolkit ordered from gadgetmenders. I got the infamous white screen on power up but resetting (push and hold power and home butttons for about 10 seconds) cleared it right up. Thanx
Excellent precise detailed instructions ! One hour and back up and running great vid providing step by step details Recommended if your about to change iPod touch 4th gen screen Cheers
Thanks for posting these instructions. I was able to replace my screen. I did get the white screen at the end but I reset the itouch after it came back it worked correctly.
I have actually fixed a broken screen on a computer with little difficultly! I have fixed MILLIONS of laptops but this is, hands down, the HARDEST thing I have EVER done! If you mess this up once, it's more money to pay! If you don't know what you're doing, just pay the 70 bucks to apple and be done with it. Great video and I did mange to get the screen working but it took me a full THREE hours to do it and it was almost IMPOSSIBLE!
You should install it after the larger metal insert in the middle portion or the iPod. It can be difficult to snap in back in place but as long as it sits on top of the camera it will serve the purpose.
Okay, my itouched worked find after, I screwed up and didn't really apply adhesive correctly but that's my fault, I want to also point out the screw sizes are different, that's what really messed me up as well, but if I were more organized everything would have went smoothly, every works so I'm happy, thanks gadetmenders!
open it again and locate the 3 battery terminal beneath the metal cover, locate the +3.7 volt terminal using a multimeter (from memory its the one on the right as you look at it ) short this terminal briefly to ground ( the metal plate sorounding the home button will do ) then plug into charger and withing seconds you should get your confirmation beep and then screen shows charging, wait a min or so and it will boot up,Has worked for me on more than a few occasions hope it helps...goodluck..:)
We recommend the clamps and heat gun or hair dryer but you can improvise without them. The new screen, if ordered from our website, will include the pre-cut adhesive strips.
Great video, very professional but I'm wondering why you don't transfer the metal bracket from the old glass....I didn't do this once as I completely forgot and got one of those high spots you speak of which caused some dead pixels so I think transferring this bracket would seriously reduce the risk of this happening just as a little tip:-D...keep up the good work!
Yeah that's the bracket alright, watched a lot of different videos for this same repair and no seems to do this...not only will it reduce the risk of the LCD hitting something it gives a better hold for the assembly up at the top as there is not much of a platform for the adhesive tape there.I normally take a picture of the bracket on the old glass and use this as a position guide when sticking it to the new one...works a treat!:-D
Great tut ! Thanks :) One question though, the clamps used; I see them on your website but shipping is 20 dollars to my country (NL). Could you please tell me the measurements, so I can find a local alternative ? (or offer an alternative way of sending it ?)
Many heat guns only offer a single setting so there isn't a set temperature I can say. But do be sure to keep the heat gun moving. Heating a single area for too long at a variety of temperature ranges can cause damage beyond repair.
The home button flex cable may need to be replaced. The power button part of the power/volume flex cable was likely torn. The usual location is just behind the power button on the inside of the iPod. It happens when you pull up the board to access the digitizer port and it catches this cable.
For the touch issue, check the digitizer cable and ensure it is securely snapped into place. This is the cable that plugs in under the board. The power button issue is due to a torn power/volume flex cable.
My hubby has built boards for a heart monitor project so he'll know what to do, this yellow piece that was broken can it be fixed or a whole new piece replaced.
This is truly a great video, but I have a few concerns and/or ideas, you should include audio in all of your video, also, zoom in with more quality and try to zoom in on the parts where you are working near the logic board, as it is hard for us to see, thank you though for the how to, it's going to help
This is likely due to a damaged power/volume flex cable which you can find on our website. This part requires soldering and can be fairly difficult to install.
Do you need to put the metal housing bit for the rear-facing camera back on before you put the large metal insert back on? Cause I just finished putting all the screws back in only to realize the metal housing for the camera won't reinstall properly. You never mention putting it back on in the video...
You must replace the part by intertwining it in place, gluing it to the volume and power metal pieces, and solder the three connections. This cable can be found on our website.
I have tried this to... but thanks anyway!! I think i may have a faulty screen! I am going to try and buy a new one and see if thats works any other advice? before i purchase a screen?
thank you i did everything right except on bottom left corner i almost pulled red wire out but black wire is out.what was that for..now just waiting for my glasss digitizer lcd screen
This video rightly points to some potential problems that may arise as a result of trying to disassemble the ipod to prepare for installing the new screen. However, I think the visual details on how to avoid damaging the so-called volume flex cable are under-done. My advice would be to first attempt the disassembly (readying the ipod for the screen replacement) BEFORE buying the new screen (in case you damage the volume cable and end up having to send it in for professional repair). My volume flex cable adhered quite strongly to the top of the cover resulting in a tear at the 90 degree bend in the cable when I tried to lift up the cover - very little force is necessary to achieve this goof. In order to get the bulky plastic tool (provided by GadgetMenders) underneath the cover at this point, you cannot really avoid ripping the cable if you do what is shown in the video. That tool also was rendered useless because the thin plastic part just broke off into my ipod when I put any force on it whatsoever during earlier steps to loosen the cover. The way the ipod is being handled in the video at this point gives little indication of the care that is needed to avoid ripping that cable when you lift up on the metal cover. So, my advice would be: do not attempt to lift up on the cover on this corner at all until you have thoroughly loosened all the adhesive with the heat gun/blow dryer. How much time and heat is required is not clear (from the video) to me but you should probably try to over-do it somewhat on the heat during this phase. Secondly, find a thin but somewhat blunt tool to slide in on an angle from right to left between the cover and the flex cable. A very thin dissecting needle might do the trick here. Bottom line, before you lift up that cover at all, you need to have that power cable completely separated from it so as not to exert any stress on the cable as you lift. As I mentioned above, this is a much more delicate operation than would be indicated by the handling shown in this video.
Fantastic video. Good instructions. I had the problem with the white screen as well and superegomaniac12's advice worked. All I had to do was hold the power button and the home button until the screen went black and kept holding until the apple logo came up. Thanks for your help.
the little cable on the metal insert for the home button - my little metal dome thing that "clicks" the button (best seen at 5:02 under the heat gun) the copper ring about 2 mm wide with a little green dot in the middle i dont have it it is gone do i need it to make the home button work ? and if so can i buy the metal insert? i tried to make a video to show what it is but i cant put it on here i can email it if you dont understand what it is im talking about
I used this tutorial today, and it was quite good, exept i'd like to point out that i'm pretty sure you ruined the back camera, by tearing the copper connecting the bottom of the silver thingy to the camera. Just like to point that out for anyone else in case you think of ripping yours too.
Try resetting the device by holding the power button and home button simultaneously for 7-10 seconds. If the power button was damaged this will not work and you would have to wait until the battery died completely before you can get it to power up. It's also possible that the board suffered damage during the install.

Thanks a bunch. I followed this step by step and everything works (besides the camera but i don't care that much). You saved me about $200!
Thanks!!!! i work at a gameshop and now i know how to repair every handheld device!!!!
You helped me out very much!!!

Thank you so much for posting this video! I fixed my daughters ipod touch with no problems at all and no experience. Thanks so much x
I have to say I found this really helpful in Repairing my Screen and loved how you talked me through step by step
Your video is a big help. I was able to get this done for my son and I feel great for having accomplished it. Thank you!
Excellent precise detailed instructions ! One hour and back up and running great vid providing step by step details Recommended if your about to change iPod touch 4th gen screen

Thank you very much for this video! I was able to replace the screen on my wife's iPod and your video was very helpful.

Brilliant! took my time, got all the right accessories and it worked a charm. definitely on eof the more trickier repairs. Thanks for the video.
Never mind! It works! I just had to plug it in!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
Thanks a lot this worked very well, even though it took 3 hours compared to the 12 in the video. I took it slow but it worked and saved me $75!!!
It was better than any other video on you tube like this
I cannot speak for "ALL" sellers, you can feel confident knowing you will get a good product by purchasing from us.
This was soo helpful. thank u soo much for posting this haha :) my dad is fixing it tonight :)
just fixed my one, followed all the Tip and Ticks, thanks man.. :)

your brilliant u told me nice and slowly how to do it and it made sence keep up the great work thanx mate
Cheers for the vid, followed to every detail and all fixed
Great Video! Very helpful. Thank you for sharing.....One of the best in UA-cam.
Thanks man, Worked a treat. That effing touch screen wire was a sod to get back in tho!
thanks for your help. think that you should stress the bottom speaker more in your videos however becuase the blue and red cable break very easily

thanks for video it has a lot of great hints and tips along the way very helpful i would of broke lots of bits without it cheers
thanks man, I repair my ipod with this tutorial, I was 4 hours LOL
We recommend the clamps and heat gun or hair dryer but you can improvise without them. The new screen, if ordered from our website, will include the pre-cut adhesive strips.
Sorry man, it was my laptop screwing up. thanks though, my ipod needs repairing so you really helped, cheers :)
Worked great, thanks for the pointers!!!
This is likely the power/volume flex cable which you can find on our website. This part requires soldering and can be fairly difficult to install.
@Daiiisssy try a reset. hold home button and the power button together.
@ThinkingwithPortals0 The LCD may have damaged during installation. The best thing I can recommend is to try a new screen assembly.
This is the power/volume flex cable which you can find on our website. This part requires soldering and can be fairly difficult to install.

thanks for your help fixed my ipod screen thanks to you .thank you
It's best to remove all the old adhesive and reapply new. The screens available on our website all include pre-cut adhesive strips.
You can find the pre-cut adhesive on our website. Also, our replacement screens all include the tape.
Thanks guys, this helped a lot.
does what your using to keep the screen together work just as good as adhesive? really would like to know be for i start taking anything apart
Yes, you may need to bend the casing back in order to fit the new screen.
Is the metal bracket you are talking about the metal camera shield at the top on the iPod over the camera that's about 3 cm by 1cm large?
OMG! thanks u man, i have the screen red now and is VERY COOL!! THANKS YOU!
Thanks..helped a lot. The only thing was, I got a white screen when testing... minor panic until I did a reset
Thanks for the video though, i followed it and all is good again!
Really helpful just one question does all your iPods data stay on it or is it a good idea to back it up first
Gooooood, watching all this comments, I don't know if I should try this myself.
The home button flex cable may need to be replaced. The power button part of the power/volume flex cable was likely torn. The usual location is just behind the power button on the inside of the iPod. It happens when you pull up the board to access the digitizer port and it catches this cable.
thank you man, worked perfectly.
Yes, it should snap securely into place. Don't force it, however, because that could result in unwanted damage.
Where did you get the extra screen and what was the first tool you used on it?
thanks man didnt know where to plug in outer screen now i do
Thank you very much, keep up the work
It's okay if it tore just be sure the individual pieces are touching. To be honest, it will function without the tape but it's a good precaution.
Is the Wi-Fi cable connected to the screen or does it just get stuck to the screen?
I had the same issue with an ipod of mine after it got wet. I replaced the digitizer and it now works completely.
For the touch issue, check the digitizer cable and ensure it is securely snapped into place. This is the cable that plugs in under the board. The power button issue is due to a torn power/volume flex cable.
does the adhesive strips come with the tool kit?
whats the name of the heating tool you used, and how do i know if its just the glass from my ipod that needs to be repaired.
My hubby has built boards for a heart monitor project so he'll know what to do, this yellow piece that was broken can it be fixed or a whole new piece replaced.
If it's extreme then it can. You can bend the casing back in place.
where do we get the screen at and what is the cost ? i am in UK, tks
The Best Video Ever !!!! THX

did you put back the little metal piece that goes in front of the camera?
What kind or screws are they? Are they the 5 point pentalobe or philips?
This is likely due to a damaged power/volume flex cable which you can find on our website. This part requires soldering and can be fairly difficult to install.
does the repare kit come with a heater for the adhesive
Do you need to put the metal housing bit for the rear-facing camera back on before you put the large metal insert back on? Cause I just finished putting all the screws back in only to realize the metal housing for the camera won't reinstall properly. You never mention putting it back on in the video...
it worked for me thanks man :)
I tore the cable you talk about at 7:30, how can I replace all that now....?
You must replace the part by intertwining it in place, gluing it to the volume and power metal pieces, and solder the three connections. This cable can be found on our website.
very useful, thank you for the tutorial (:
Check the digitizer cable and ensure it is securely snapped into place. This is the cable that plugs in under the board.
I have tried this to... but thanks anyway!! I think i may have a faulty screen! I am going to try and buy a new one and see if thats works any other advice? before i purchase a screen?
Very good job, thanks
Will silicone work if I carefully apply it to the edges to stick the screen on?
can you use double sided tape instead of that adhesive stuff u used please respond fast
thank you i did everything right except on bottom left corner i almost pulled red wire out but black wire is out.what was that for..now just waiting for my glasss digitizer lcd screen

how long should i use the heat gun to soften the adhesive along the edges and around what temperature should i have it?
Do we have to take the tape off that came w/ it?
It's possible this could fix the touchscreen issue but not a guarantee. The replacement screen does include a new digitizer which detects the touch.

do u live in yuma? my ipod broke :( i was wondering if u can fix mine its the 4g? how long would it take? how much money?
do you have to put the golden copper tape back on the lcd screen ?

By replacing the digitizer will the touch screen work?
Thank you. I was able to do it.
Does the different color screens come with a digitizer?
