Once again, Marco's mastery of education shines here. He does a great job of explaining _why_ and _how_ to choose colors -- not just telling you what colors to use. It's very much in the "teach a man to fish" vein. Bravissimo!
This is the most impressive paint job for me, I've collected lizardmen for years and been trying to get better at painting them during lockdown, to see the quality of the paint job you achieved in 3 hours across the whole warband blows my mind, I took longer to paint just the saurus and I'm no where near your level. Thank you so much for the way you explain your process too Marco any more lizards in the future will be greatly appreciated.
These videos are my absolute favorites. I have watched all the speed painting ones multiple times and I am just amazed at your experience and craftsmanship to create these masterpieces, please, never stop!
Helllloooooo guyyyyyyyssss! As soon as I put on the video my partner popped her head in the door and said "Is that Marco?" followed swiftly by "I'm sure you already have all those paints." And she's right, I do. I have learned the way of Marco well. But I don't have the Seraphon... 😉
I am in absolute awe of the color saturation you're able to get on your minis, Marco. Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration and knowledge. You are truly a master, in every sense of the word. You rock!!!
The things you can do in 3 hours. I used one of your videos as reference to paint one of my huge amount of unpainted underworlds warbands (some stormcasts) and I learned a lot. Now I feel like I need to do the same with this, and take away as much as I can from it.
I appreciate this workflow most because I almost never have three or four hours uninterrupted to try back-and-forth artistic experiments. In this video I can point to several places where I could stop between steps after an hour, then come back the next day and pick it right up again.
I watch your painting videos both because of all the useful tips & tricks, but also hearing your Italian accent - It sounds so joyful and makes me happy! 😁
The red undercoat was an inspired choice. Overall, this was a very similar process to the one I did, but I used a green to add variety to the skink blue. Now I'm wishing I had waited to see this!
I'm blown away as always... I'd like to see you tackle a teal and pink/purple neon style scheme to see how you'd lay the groundwork for it. Keep being amazing and keep up that enthusiasm you always carry!
It starts looking great right away! This is amazing, you can get a whole army looking good super quickly and then add the rest of the steps to it over time! 🤩🤩🤩
I followed the chameleon steps for my blood bowl lizards and got the exact effect I wanted for them. Thank you so much for the inspiration and explanation of your technique!
I was being lazy with my painting this week, not feeling inspired at all and then here comes this video. Marco you just restored my productivity just in time for the weekend! The way you always promote speedpainting and the relaxed manner got me to speed up my own painting significantly. First attempt for that were the Iron Golems after watching your video on them.
This is amazing. I think some of the tips are easy to translate: 1. Make a Plan 2. Get all the tools you need for the plan ready. 3. Do as much of it as possible with an airbrush 4. Do everything you can with one color before moving to the next color 5. Use colors with good coverage OR use white to prepare an area for colors with poor coverage 6. Use the same palette of colors on all the models in a group but vary their application slightly 7. Heavy. Body. Acrylics. Buddy. 8. The style of brush stroke you use can convey material quickly without a lot of effort. 9. Glazes for tone. Maybe I missed one or two. But actually applying some of these lessons to get to that level is a whole other thing. The red base for the blue skin looks so good in the finished product but my instinct would've been to cover it entirely. I also have a lot of trouble maintaining any values sketch or undercoat I do with the next layer. It always goes opaque too quickly. At any rate: amazing stuff. Always here for a Marco video. Your #lizarmen is missing a "d" :D Also, we need "Hellooooooo guys" and a "what up is on the channel" shirts.
I've recently just started airbrushing and I've got the new seraphon army box. This video has helped massively and I'm actually pretty happy with what I've managed to do, thanks dude! 😁
Watching my idol painting my favorite unit brings me some kind of feeling of superior respect to this man, as a fan of your works this video is apotheotic.
Phenomenal work! Videos like this one really tickle my urge to branch out from just GW paints and techniques. Looks like airbrush is my next step (and inks!)
YES Finally I see Marco paint something other than human like race or demon! Seriously waiting for more animal mini projects and was was happy to see Seraphon as it is my very first army
The speed paint videos are definitely my favourite. Always learn something new. What medium are you using to thin the contrast paints there? Is it the ‘contrast’ medium or regular mixing medium?
Absolutely amazing stuff Marco! Wish I had half your control of the airbrush, let alone your regular brush control. I couldn't get one looking that good no matter how much time I spent, let alone 6 of them in 3 hours. You are a true magician!
Marco tocayo italiano! Sigue asi! Buen trabajo!
This guy can paint an entire warband in three hours at a higher level that I paint a single one in a day. This is some kind of black magic, I'm sure of it!
This.. I guess.. is talent.. something that I definitely don’t have.. like you say.. a week 4 figures.. daily couple hours.. still unfinished and far gar away from this beautiful finish.. colours..
It's called "knowing what you're doing"... it's mainly the result of a ton of experience and experimentation. I'm a professional illustrator and artist and I draw and paint stuff in a fraction of the time it takes others (who are also really good) to do the same. The key is the experience and knowing what you're doing, because once you have reached that level you know exactly which steps will give you which result AND which steps you can leave out because they aren't necessary. The same goes for painting miniatures, there's a lot of stuff people do that isn't necessary and therefore costs time, but doesn't give you any better results. Blending wet paints on a model is much faster than doing layering for instance. And the wet blending also gives you a more professional looking result. You are basically doing less work while also increasing the quality of the result. There are tons of these things in drawing, painting, painting miniatures etc., in any artistic activity basically. (probably also in all kinds of other fields like mechanics etc. but I don't know, I'm not an engineer :D)
@@barbarusbloodshed6347 Yep, exactly. It's generally accepted that it takes between 10,000 and 20,000 hours of time to become a master of any skill. That's what separates hobbiests from professionals. I can 3D model 50x faster than a layperson because I've done it all day, five days a week, for 16 years (Oh god...). Similarly, I would expect a professional painter to paint 50x faster than me because they've put the hours in. People often discount the efforts others have put into things that most consider "hobby talents".
At first I though, hmm starting with red, interesting choice. Then as each step progressed I was more and more amazed at the result. Beautiful work as always Marco and your enthusiasm is always so refreshing. Keep up the incredible work.
I seriously have to take a deeper look into your patreon and its content. Need to challenge myself more, because i stopped learning and still am far away from the quality i wont to be at for speed painting! :)
Marco… I truly don’t understand how it’s possible to execute this in 3-4 hours haha. I already had one of these guys completely done, but I wanted to do the rest of them in basically your scheme, so I started yesterday. Airbrushed the skin tones and the feathers, took me 1-2 hours. Today I sat down at 1:30 to do all the brush work… factoring out breaks, I’m at roughly 5 additional hours and I’m not even close to done! I feel like I spend so much time fixing mistakes and finding all sorts of new details every time I pick up one of the models. How can I possibly organize things better to get to a place where I’m knocking out warbands in just a handful of hours?
I have not missed a single of your video but this speedpaint is among the most spectacular I've seen from you. Quick question - your workflow usually incorporates adding definition using oil washes, but not in this case. Can you explain why you chose not to rely on oils this time around? Cheers and looking forward to seeing more!
I just learnt a lot, thanks. I'd been wondering how to go from the value sketch and slight refinement to the finished pieces I often see. This was really informative. I'd been too scared of losing what I'd made with the airbrush to make the contrasting areas pop. I'll be mindful of that going forward.
Hello painters! Love this speed painting technique! Any advice of which pre-shade colour used with main skin/scale colour as anthracite grey (dark grey)? With colours, use chromatic circle should help but with grey or dark it seems a little bit difficult... Thanks!
Great great great tutorial!!! How do you avoid coffee stains using contrast paints on sections instead of the all over wash? Is it a matter of medium? Grazzie mille!!!

Oh most certainly. It is such a delight to watch the videos due to the fact that theyre well supported with theory and "why" it works.
