    Greetings Katie and Parker, There are so many Captains of newly owned OC boats leave the dock before checking everything. Then you hear about the accidents they have. I extremely proud of you both for being smart cookies! Happy Sailing ⛵ So sad to see Katie sick.

    take out the mast? just tape new cables to the old ones and pull them out the top of the mast. you can fish tape at least one new cable up there?

    • @ghislaindevouton5301
      @ghislaindevouton5301 Рік тому

      Yep work perfectly as long as you have a cable in place that sticks out on both ends. I'd add a runner at the same time so if you lose one cable the runner is your back up.

    Your video and editing skills are outstanding! As a viewer from the beginning I miss exploring with you both - as I’m sure you do. No fun though being in a remote location with a mechanical problem…good luck sorting it all out. Onward!

    As I watch your adventures, I appreciate both of you as sailors and people. When you diagnosed the wiring for the masthead lights, I was impressed. When Katie took you up the mast, I was impressed. Many may not know the effort required to safely take someone up the mast. You both did a great job. Now you need to get Katie up the mast to work on something.

    Fabulous video, Parker fixing a ground on the masthead light. Katie, the inside curtains looked marvelous, we love oxyclean. Buying a new boat is stressful, relocating to Panama, we are all praying Katie's antibiotics for multiple infection's help and her health improves soon.

    The more I see people dealing with big boat maintenance, the more I appreciate my Sunfish!

    • @williamstreet4304
      @williamstreet4304 8 місяців тому +1

      LOL! Do you not have a tri-color on the Sunfish? I'd hate to try to go up that mast. My first sailboat was a Dolphin Sr. It's a 14' lateen rigged dinghy much like a Sunfish. What an easy and joyful sailing experience! I don't want to cross the Atlantic on one. But it was so much fun. Greater displacement creates greater problems and greater costs.

      @@williamstreet4304 yep, a nice purple/yellow/white sail, a red and white sail, and a couple of white racing sails.
      No, I wouldn’t sail it across the ocean, but it is great for camp cruising the east coast barrier islands!

  • @bitsurfr46

    Thanks for explaining why you're not sailing. A good choice no doubt. Lately, I see more videos on UA-cam channels about fixing boats than sailing. The fantasy about buying a boat and sailing into the sunset just isn't realistic. Boats require much more maintenance than a house on land does.

    Antibiotic use can upset the bacteria balance both in the gut and "other areas" causing yeast infections that would normally be kept at bay by normal flora. Hope by publishing Kate is through this.

  • @rentiap
    @rentiap Рік тому +1

    After taking antibiotics. It is essential to replace and get that friendly flora back into your gut, and especially back into that environment "below".
    Katie not feeling well is not acceptable. Hope you are feeling better.

    we can definitely see that Katie is not feeling well at all. A boat life is something that’s not for everybody, some people like it, some people don’t. I think you need to talk about this and work something out. I can see that she is not happy. She is very brave however I feel that she won’t hold together for much longer.

    Hey guys, my name is john and I had an idea for the throat infection. My step mom worked as a teacher and always got throat infections and had to take a higher and higher dosage and stronger antibiotics until they had to administer them in a hospital. a natural doctor told them that Garlic is a natural antibiotic. It may not be as fast acting but our bodies dont get accustomed to it's effect so as to weaken it. I have to admit that it isnt my favorite method since garlic smell comes out of your pours and you will smell like garlic for a while. My dad and step mom have never failed to get rid of infection this way. take a clove of garlic, peal it and slice in very thin slices and then take a couple slices and put it on tongue and let the juice of the garlic run down your throat. do every 4 hours slices.

    Duralac, Tef-Gel or other products are used for boats to stop dissimilar metal corrosion. The aluminum will continue to deteriorate if not coated to separate the stainless steel pieces from touching it because it is the softer metal.
    Galvanic corrosion is an electrochemical reaction between two or more different metals. The metals must be different because one must be more chemically active (or less stable) than the others for a reaction to take place. When we talk about galvanic corrosion, we're talking about electrical exchange. All metals have electrical potential because all atoms have electrons, which have an electrochemical charge.
    Galvanic corrosion of the more chemically active metal can occur whenever two or more dissimilar metals that are "grounded" (connected by actually touching each other, or through a wire or metal part) are immersed in a conductive solution (any liquid that can transfer electricity). Anything but pure water is conductive. Saltwater, freshwater with high mineral content, and polluted freshwater are very conductive, and conductivity goes up with water temperature. That's one reason why boats in Florida experience more corrosion than boats in Maine.
    The simplest example of galvanic corrosion, and the most applicable, is an aluminum lower unit with a stainless steel propeller. The aluminum is the more chemically active metal (the anode), and the stainless steel is the less chemically active metal (the cathode). Several things happen at the same time:

    I get the part about the cover not being removable without removing the mast (a dumb design IMO - instead of slide in it should snap in - it's not structural & is not exposed to weather, so I can't see a reason it needs to be so permanently affixed until the mast is removed but that's a mast design issue not relevant/helpful, just an aside).
    BUT why does that mean you can't re-wire until you pull the mast? electricians pull new wire (or new pull string used to pull new wire) through conduit attaching new to old & pulling old through the conduit all the time - the mast is just a big conduit. I would hope all wires running through the mast are free-floating/not bound to/bundled with other wires so wires can be replaced individually?
    I obviously don't know boats - my experience is with residential/commercial construction, but surely there's a way to replace the wires without pulling the mast? even if you have to drill a hole in that cover below the surface of the cabin floor for better access?

    Sure hope you feel better soon!!! I've always been plagued with ear infections my whole life. To make matters worse, I've been allergic to penicillin and all their derivatives as well. Always a challenge to then find something that works as those drugs have always been the "go to" from the Drs. Thanks as always for sharing things not only directly related to the boat but also life abroad in general (like the Drs and associated costs). Still very much a part of what this life can be like, and I am looking forward to the day I can as well! Just curious, is there a reason behind the two windexs? Thanks for having my name at the end! I feel famous now and can check that off of my bucket list. It's like the credits at the end of a movie (Random Guy #22) :-) Take best of care!!!
