Forge your own adventure! Is what other sailors say.
Keep the spray good you will need it
"Either this is incredibly stupid, or probably the most amazing thing I've ever done." These two things are not mutually exclusive; it could be both! 😄
I will hang around and watch the transformation, keep the dream alive bro!
Thank you I know you’re going to be in awe when you see how cheap we are able to bring it back and how amazing it’s going to look !
How much you pay. I also buy a boat without to see it on 1year old photos. But was an Amel Kirk 36 foot only for 1k. Curious how much you pay
That will be in a upcoming video lol we can’t give it all away yet haha
@@Derekrebuilds yes yes :D:D:D
More brave than I! 😮
This boat is a total dumpster fire. Needs a new everything. You could sink $75K into it and not notice much difference.
No it doesn’t lol ! You will be surprised how little it has taken to get her up and going !
Tomvuthepimp I bet you're fun at parties, NOT.
not true . he will spend 2-10k depend on engine and sails . but also second hand sails for this size boat is around 200-400 dolars . engine if broken an electric 2-4 k . dont know how you come with 75 k . but probably you can not fix anything yourself .
and if you want someone to do the jobs for you then even 1 milion is not enouth
@@SailingTerra $2K-$10K? You are in dream land. Some type of auto pilot is a MUST. A CPT wheel auto pilot alone will cost $2K. A Hydrovane is $6K. 50K-$75K would be a correct number to make it a SAFE ocean cruiser. A Dometic fridge is $1000. Sailor James spent $40K and thats with people giving him free stuff. An engine rebuild can be $8K. Good condition used sails from Bacon Sails are around $800. New rigging is $3K/$4K. On and on and on. Also time is not free. Do you want to spend years in boat yards doing projects or do you want to sail? I enjoy working in my boat. But I dont want to spend my life doing it.
@@SOLDOZER probably you never restored an old boat. I am on my 3rh project. And can tell you aways can buy a second hand autopilot and everthink. For an old boat. Some people don't valiu money and are rich . But other can make it with less. And if you are more handy like me you can build almost everthink and fix everthink yourself.
Sam Holmes is the best - good luck - what did you pay for it?
I think a little elbow grease would go a long way. Looks like you came out ok, be less reckless in the future.
Where is the fun in that haha
Subscriber 201….nice looking forward to this!
Hell yea thank you so much ! I promise it’s going to be good and so much to come !
omg another guy who bought a first boat and plans to sail around the world. ugh.
i worry about you man. just go slow for a long while. Sam Holmes has had a world of experience.
Hahah it’s okay buddy ! Don’t worry lol
LOL we are 3 guys buying our first boats , too. 3 boats of course and we will go around the world as an flottilla. LOL. Sounds grazy? Good! We will do it anyway.
@@sailingpilots he’ll yea that’s awesome !
Don’t pressure wash! It will force water into places that should never get wet!
It’s doable. Good basic skills and application will get this done. Subscribed.
Sell it and buy the J24 moored next to it
I just bought a Tanzer 22 The only problem I see is I might have to drop the fixed keel 🤯
I bought my current boat sight unseen with no survey. Half a million dollars. Two years later and it worked out well! I would never advise anyone else to do it however.
Right I know the feeling ! I can’t wait to upload the other videos for yall to see how this turned out !
Before you start on the cosmetics, get it out of the water and see what it's like underneath. Get any issues there dealt with first.
Boy Howdy! Looks like you got a can of worms!
I hope you have a lot of money.
I am Sure you have heard of how to make a billionaire a millionaire. Buy a Boat or Run for Office. Ooo! And the word "Boat" means "Brake Out Another Thousand "
You have a Ton of work ahead of you. Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing the Boat 🚢 back in brand new shape soon.
Until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
Hope to see your sails on the Horizon someday from my lanai. Cheers 🍻
Yea I have some work but not as bad as people are going to think . It’s really in good shape and y’all will see that soon ! Can’t wait to show ya !thank you for the following as well . It means a lot !
He'll ya, Sam Holmes is my inspiration as well. A modern day hero. Don't give 2 shots about those pretty couples on thier 500k yachts.
Hahah right like they have good videos but they don’t sail Sam and Eric just kill it when it comes to sailing videos
"bold" is not the word I would be using!
LOL
I wouldn’t either lol in all reality lol 😂
Live life to the fullest and screw the haters!
The best way to live !
Nice vessel. I solo sailed my boat to catalina ten days after I got her. I am also fixing her up to do whatever other sailing channel tries to do. good luck!.
I’ll be following!
Awesome!!!
Saw another channel with an older boat that needed a lot, they said never pressure wash the deck. Can force water into places one doesn't want water
That’s for sure if the boat is weak !
keep the boat simple don't invest a lot in new thinks . do everything yourself . make the boat an investment to learn you will make thausand of mistakes ,and after traveling the world you will find a better boat . and then you have the necessary knowledge.
cost vs problems vs your abilities My best wishes
Cost is cheap and problems aren’t much or big and abilities are way above average lol been building cars, planes my whole life lol
@@Derekrebuilds wasn't meant as a slam. just a general statement best wishes on your adventure...I'll stay tuned
That's a bold move cotton, let's see how this plays out. Good luck hombre.
I like 12 volt chest freezers. Run it on ECO and leave your binoculars, charts, and camera in the boat fridge dry and warm. An air cooled diesel? No salt water to break things. Let the boat motor run a sawmill. A CB radio. An isolations switch . No batteries in parallel.
You're on drugs. A CB radio? Yeah...lot of good that will do. You can talk to truckers in an emergency.
Get some lessons. Good luck. Your welcome!
Love to see new sailors start their journey, im on board with. Just subscribed
Welcome aboard and thank you so much ! I can’t wait !
Great to see another project in the making - look forward to seeing your progress. Might not be the cheapest way to get sailing in the end but have fun with the process and it will all be worth it☺️
Thank you for watching and following! Yes it’s a great deal of fun the videos have already been filmed but we had time because the time in between was so far I wanted to make it easier for people to watch. I hope you like the videos and please leave much feedback!
@@Derekrebuilds probably smart to film a lot of content before publishing - I am finding it hard to work on the boat and publish frequently at the same time🙈😅
@@sailingwyn yep that’s what we did!
My first boat was 31 foot after 1,2 year ungraded to 36 amel kirk. After 2 more years to a catamaran 50 foot all. Projects. You will need to start. And on the way you will Grow. My plan is not travel the world but live full time on a boat for next 10-10 years. Bigger the boat more comfort. And more easy to sail.
That’s amazing ! Yea I want to travel the world full time and life full time on my bit but we will be going over all that soon .
@@Derekrebuilds i mean i also travel the world full time and having a bigger boat make thinks much easyer . where are you located ?
@@SailingTerra we are based in fl as of right now
Go for it wish I was in the US, I be there every day helping you.
Thanks ! It’s going to be a blast ! Where are you from ?
I'm currently sitting in my narrowboat I built in England but I miss sailing so I'm looking for a boat in the uk here to live on.
Boat in the US are much much cheaper then here.
@@rachelmoore5703 that’s amazing ! And yes they are you can find so many here for free as well ready to go! You should make some videos on your boat now. I’m sure not only my self would love to see it !
