Honestly, the best place in Cuba to photograph this species and the Cuban Emerald. We missed each other by a few months. I went in April; Adrian, his wife and his family are special people helping me make lasting memories at Casa Ana. So excited you got him! Zunzuncito is one amazing hummer!
Great thing to see the bee hummingbird. To go all the way to Cuba from California to see this tiny bird is just amazing. And the fact that such a tiny bird can survive the massive storms and hurricanes there is just purely incredible.
A dream come true! I’m happy you were able to see the bee hummingbird so easily. I know they are uncommon. Just getting to Cuba is a challenge. Well done!
I love that you finally got to see this tiny hummingbird and how excited you got. 220 down now on to #221. Keep it up and thank you for sharing your quest.
Oh my gosh Carol what a treat!! I would love to visit there & see the Bee Hummingbird. Hummingbird. OH MY GOSH I HAVE A NEW BIRD LOVE. I LOVE THIS BIRD❣️Thank you sooooo much for sharing this. God bless
I can't believe how tiny they are! I can't imagine how small the babies are. They're all so colorful and beautiful too! You were definitely in your element, excited and so happy. Im also addicted to classic cars. That looked like a really fun trip. I'm so happy that you visited and shared your adventure with us! Thank you Carole. What a treat❤
AMAZING !!! Thank you Carole ... educational and delightful to watch ... I lost you when old phone broke and glad have found your site again ... love all your videos ... thank you for being such an Advocate for our beautiful Animal Kingdom ... our "Flying Jewells" ... God bless you and all the hard work you do to teach others about these special and amazing wee creatures of beauty ... 😊♥️
Wow, Carol!! What a beautiful little hummingbird, absolutely stunning, colorful like Cuba itself!! I was also thrilled as I saw and photographed a male Calliope Hummingbird, just south of Portland, Oregon, 2 weeks ago. An uncommon visitor. Congrats on successfully photographing this little hummer and continuing your quest 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love the Calliope! This was one of my main hummingbirds when I used to have a place up in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Every once in a while I will see one now in Southern California when it is migrating north.
If you ever get the chance to return to Cuba, don't miss the treat of the Cuban Painted Snails...Which are at risk because of habitat loss, and illegal trade to shell collectors and tourists...Cuba has many different species of flora and fauna not found any where else in the world...All as colorful as its people...That was one wonderful treat...Thanks for sharing...
Congratulations!!! Definitely on my Most Wanted Bird List. If you don’t mind sharing your travel route to Cuba, it would be appreciated. Some birding tours avoid Cuba and it’s become more difficult to get a “educational visa”. With your diligence and medical background, I’m glad you found a way. Then there’s that pesky passport stamp 😊!
I just checked my passport and I can't find a stamp from Cuba. I thought they stamped it, but there is none there. Maybe they use disappearing ink for Americans, haha! Email me and I will give you the strategy.
When I first looked at the video I almost thought it was an Anna's Hummingbird because of the coloring this bee hummingbird has lots of very similar coloring to the Anna's hummingbirds but obviously allot smaller in size. Did you get any other hummingbirds while you were there in Cuba while you were there . Thank you for this great video of the smallest Hummingbird in the world .
I put my feeder out back at the middle of March but didn't see any hummers until about 2wks ago and today is 5/7/23. Three days ago there were 6 hummers flying & fighting over my one feeder (it has 4 holes) anyway, all of sudden the smallest hummer I've ever seen came to my feeder. It was super small. A friend of mine was with me on my porch and said that was the smallest they had ever seen also. We could not believe how small it was!! I'm in central/east Texas. ??? I am going try get a picture but no promises, lol😊
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I will have to figure out who your hosts are. (I presume that’s a B&B or something?) And 220 at this point? Amazing! I am at 6. Definitely newer to this. :) My wife takes a girls’ trip every winter, and I usually pop off on my own somewhere. I am planning a hummingbird photography trip to the Dominican Republic this year, which might expand to Curaçao and Sint Maarten as well. But I am very excited to try and find the Vervain Hummingbird, which is a close second to the Bee for the title of smallest bird. I thought about a trek to Cuba instead, but my wife has wanted to go there for a long time, and so I’ll safe that trip for a time that we can go together. But watching your videos are great food for thought. Thanks!
You mentioned at the 3:04 mark in this video that this specie is the # 220 you have photographed . I lived in Cuba , place I was born in the year 1963 , until the year I left 1971 and never have returned . one is 1 ; two is 1+2 ; three is 1+2+3 ; four is 1+2+3+4 ; five is 1+2+3+....5 ; six is 1+2+3 +....+6 ; seven is 1+2+3+....+7 ; eight is 1+2+3+....+8 ; nine is 1+2+3+...+9 ; ten is 1+2+3+.....10 . 1+3+6+10+15+21+28+36+45+55 = 220 .
I have been feeling hummingbird for 4 years, the population was growing. In mid April I lost most of my guests. I live in Laguna Niguel as you know we had a record breaking rain fall and the hill side are full of blooming flowers. Do you think that the hummingbirds have a better food source, is this the reason for the decline in numbers? What are your thoughts. Thank you, Keith
That is exactly why you aren't seeing many hummingbirds. They are not dependent on your feeders right now because all of the rain brought tons of flowers to SoCal. Don't worry, your hummingbirds will remember where you are and they will be back!
@@HummingbirdSpot she has two eggs in the nest since April 28th and she hasn’t been back in more than 24 hrs. We have a camera on her. I told my husband maybe he has just missed her, but he says he checks the camera often. He’s afraid she is not alive or she felt threatened for some reason.
What a shame all your hummingbirds are not as accessible as these hummingbirds are. It sure would make your life a lot easier. And yes, if I just look at these cars, I would think I was in the states in the 1950s.
How wonderful! I'd love to visit Cuba. Friends say it's very cool, with fabulous birds. You really butchered their name for the little hummingbird, it's pronounced more like; soon-soon-CEE-toe, which translates lto; tiny zoomer.
What an unforgettable experience that must have been. What hummingbird fan has not coveted the chance to see the Bee Humming or Zunzuncito in its natural environment. It's so amazing this magnificent unique smallest bird in the world only appears in the Cuban archipelago. VIVA ZUNZUNCITO!

Great thing to see the bee hummingbird. To go all the way to Cuba from California to see this tiny bird is just amazing. And the fact that such a tiny bird can survive the massive storms and hurricanes there is just purely incredible.
Yes, you're right how they survive such tempests? It's a 🤔 wonder.
A dream come true! I’m happy you were able to see the bee hummingbird so easily. I know they are uncommon. Just getting to Cuba is a challenge. Well done!
We'll done indeed! Thank you, Carole and William!!!

Love Carole's reaction when she first sees that stunning hummingbird. Bee hummies are just so cute!!!
1:53 The colors are spectacular and out of this world. It's like looking through a Kaleidoscope
That's a good analogy! Agreed outstanding colors.
I just got back from Cuba on Saturday May 6th.

Even Fidel would have to approve of Carole and the Hummingbird Spot 😀🥰

I think I saw one in Florida over 20 years ago. I thought it was a bumblebee at first.

WOW! Amazing bird. Thank you so much!
Wow beautiful birds ❤❤❤
Wow....what an incredible experience
I love your videos. 😊
I have tropical fish that are about the same size as this bird so I can get a sense of just how miniscule they are! 😊🐝 🐦 ❤
Adorable, I should have searched them out when I was in Cuba on 2 previous trips.
Beautiful!
Thanks!
love this birds
& they come in so many colors.
Great for you!! Congrats
Beautiful 😍
Amazing…❤
Excelent!!! ❤❤❤
THAT WAS A PARTY of a video!!!
Yes, I wanted to dance every time we were editing it!
WoW ! :) How cool was that ?!?! :)
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Look how old the cars are. That's what lack of trade and freedom do to a country. Loving these Hummingbirds.
My newest favorite.
Mine too!

Try to get a picture. It might have been a migrating Calliope Hummingbird. That's the smallest hummer that comes into the US.
@@HummingbirdSpot I definitely will try and get a picture! Thank you for your reply!❤

I wonder if they're bigger or smaller than a Clear Wing Hummingbird Moth?
No idea!
Are you going to bring a book out about them.
Maybe someday when I have photographed all of them.
I have been feeling hummingbird for 4 years, the population was growing. In mid April I lost most of my guests. I did not realize that they were so bright blue on the back.
Like a turquoise stone!
How long will a Hummingbird mama leave her eggs? My hummingbird mama doesn’t seem to spend much time at her nest.
If there is only one egg, she will not spend much time there until she lays the second egg.
So I saw a beehummer mixed with lucifers here in PHX AZ his purple gorget went passed his feet while sitting EBABCOCK
Imagine how tiny their eggs are.
Can someone tell me how hummingbird get pregnant??
