Excellent mountain tutorial and of course, entertaining as usual!! You make it look so easy. I swore I wouldn't do another mountain but you've convinced me to give it another go! Wish me luck!
If you’re not happy with how it comes out, simply scrape away and start over. Remember, canvases cost 💰 🤑lol. I want to see a mountain painting from you when you’re satisfied.
Thank you so much! I feel blessed to get feedback like this. So if you give it a try, please get back to me and let me know how you did, send in a picture if you want or if you have any questions on something I wasn't specific about don't hesitate to ask. Have a Happy new year and a happy painting 😊
The way you correct things that you dont like is awesome, I usually dont learn from my mistakes but in your videos i carefully watch how you change and correct things on the fly, it is just great!!
Thank you very much! And you can do that with almost anything you paint and not just mountains. They say oils are the most forgiving medium and you not only have to learn how that works obviously but believe it’s possible. Which was my original mistake. I used to paint acrylics and that’s easy to fix because you can simply paint over anything you want once it dries. So I was confident painting like that and wasn’t afraid to make mistakes because I knew and believed it could be corrected. So after some practice with oils, I just had to apply the same attitude once I figured out how it works.
You're very welcome. I remember what it was like to be a beginner myself and so this is just me answering my own questions and sharing with the world what I have learned. Thank you for the feedback and happy painting and new year to you 😊
You should have seen the mountains I painted when I first tried. I would show them to depressed people just to make them laugh. But thank you and I'm glad to be of help and I really appreciate the support and feedback...I got a haircut earlier in the week lol
Kenny, you are such a good teacher! You keep it fun and light. I've watched soooo many videos and tutorials my eyes are about to cross. LOL I've enjoyed and learned something from almost all but you go a lot further with making sure you get across what you are doing. You take your time and break it down in simple terms that anyone can understand. I am going to start working on just my mountains, clouds, trees, and water to get the practice. Then I will put it all together. I have been painting with acrylics but know that I am going to enjoy the oil so much more. Acrylics........... I like it but it's not forgiving at all. When you are a beginner it's easy to become frustrated. I've gotten almost all my supplies and can't wait to get started. Thank you so much for all you do. You are an amazing artist and have such a good heart for those of us who need to be led by the hand to learn!
Lisa, thank you so much again for stopping by. And believe it or not I came from a background of acrylics before I began with oils. Never wanted to get into oils because I was discouraged myself and I do have to say it is indeed more forgiving. You just got to believe that and most importantly believe in yourself. In time, with lots of practice and patience, I strongly believe everyone has the potential to be a great artist. That’s my message. I’m only sorry I can’t upload more content a little faster and more often but believe me, you keep watching I’ll keep posting. I appreciate your support and kind words very much 👍
I would like to thank you for your videos. I have ben practicing for about 4 to 5 years wasting so many canvases and paint. You don't leave anything out.i can finally paint mountains ect.
Tina, thank you so much for the nice words and support. Always remember that any time and any chance you get to practice is not a waste. You can only go up from each time 👍

Marlene, thank you so much for the feedback and support not just here but on Facebook too! You keep painting, learning, and enjoying, and I’ll keep creating. You and your family have a happy, safe, and wonderful thanksgiving 😊
Maria, thank you so much my friend. Remember, I take submissions of paintings from everyone and I show them off in my videos, so if you ever want your work featured just send me a picture. Otherwise happy painting to you and always keep it fun 😊

@@Kennysgreasypaint Thank you so much for that! I might just take you up on that. I really appreciate it. That’s very kind of you! I saw I got an extra sub and wondered where it came from, UA-cam doesn’t always show who subbed. It’s not always easy getting content out is it. Cheers mate.

Thank you so much, bruv! I haven’t used watercolors since I was a kid and honestly if I had more time, I would give it a serious try again. I heard it’s actually quite difficult so I would be up for the challenge. So maybe one day hopefully lol. But please let me know how you do once you give oils a go. Again, I appreciate you 🍻

I appreciate you so much for saying that, thank you! And I always try to look out for the beginners and make it sound easy to enter the wonderful world of painting 😊
I have watched your "How to paint mountains using the wet of wet technique" several times and appreciate you showing the three different methods for painting mountains and highlighting them. My breaks are getting better with the knife, but there continues to be a large roll of paint at the beginning. Is it due to the angle of the knife, or not applying enough pressure? Or, is there another reason and is there a solution?
Hey, friend, first off let me just thank you for watching the video and checking the channel out. And great question! So your roll of paint on your knife will depend on how much or far you drag your knife through it. I would say it’s best to lessen your load as you can always add more and just pick it back up to your canvas where you left off. Later on this year I do plan to make a follow up to this video, and I shall bring this solution up in the visual. Thanks again so much and remember to keep practicing!
I thicken my paint with corn starch as it helps break up the paint when painting snowy mountains with the knife. Seems to make it a little lumpy and breaks up smears.
That is very interesting. Never heard of using corn starch to thicken it up but it would make sense I imagine. Like I always say, it only helps to get and stay creative like that. 👍
Hello, Marie. Thank you for your question. So this style of painting that I do on ALL the videos on my channel is known as “wet on wet”. Which means the technique depends on the paint staying wet throughout the whole duration of the painting process. Even when working with the knife.
Wonderful! And I would be interested in seeing it afterwards. I tell all my subs to send me over their work and I will feature it in my paint along videos. Happy painting to you and thank you 😊
I made a practice board from a birch board and three coats of valspar acrylic white. When I am finished, I scrape off the paint and wipe it with a baby wipe. Fresh “canvas”
@@jgb5814 Yes indeed. Oil paint on top of oil paint is still fine even if the old layer is dry. Thanks so much for your question and feel free to let me know how it turns out 👍
Hey great question! So for this specific technique and style of painting, a very thick consistency of oil paints is required. Winsor & Newton or Gamblin are good brands. The liquid white base coat does indeed help move and blend the firm paint around the canvas. Aside from the Bob Ross brand, you can get the brand from Hobby Lobby, Grumbacher, or even make your own liquid white with linseed oil and your titanium white, mixing those with a 50/50 ratio. I hope that helps and please let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks again
I just cant get the mountain snow to break up nicely. I have wiped off my mountain now four times. Snow looks flat and wide as a knife and it just looks like "icing a cake". Desperate and frustrated! More I try the worse it gets!
Alright let’s retrace some common steps that might be the issue. When you start off your canvas with your first coat of liquid white, is it applied thin and even? Too much of it won’t allow your paint to break even if you’re moving the knife correctly. Also, what brand of paint are you using? It should be thick otherwise it won’t work.
@@Kennysgreasypaint Thanks! Yes the liquid white layer is very thin and as I needed to wipe off the paint from the mountains 4 times today I wiped itwith toilet paper very dry just in case. I use Lefranc Bourgeois oil paints, works wonderfully on everything else. I got my mountains in the end pretty good, I used the knife as I use it when doing those thin white water lines on the shore, so basically making multiple lines and from there carefully making the knife wider little by little. And then I kinda got the technique on my hand but still it is very difficult. Unbelievably hard even if it looks so easy to do 😜
@@hungrycamperfilms I never tried that brand of paint myself but even so, with everything prepped and done right, the practice part is something that depends on you and every artist alone. So keep at it. Remember, if I can do it, so can you lol 👍
Thanks. And I used to do acrylics in the past. Discovered oils and just how much more forgiving they were about two or two and a half years ago. How about you?
