Watching these lock miters getting cut and put together is oddly satisfying to me (just using the term from the video, woodworking noob here). Cool video, great humidor!
Very well done. As a metal fabricator who works with precise measurements I can really appreciate how much care you take to make this. I want to start working with wood a bit more. My idea is to make humidor like yours but to clad the exterior in brass or copper in homage to my sheet metal working background.
I thought I was pretty good with my woodworking skills but after watching this...I have a lot of work to do. Incredible work start to finish!! AWESOME!!!!!
Wow! Amazing work! I just got into woodworking about 6 months. This video really inspires me to make a couple humidors for gifts. Thanks for the vid! Keep em coming. Subscribed
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video. I just love it. (Don’t know if you can see who has watched it the most out of your viewers, but I reckon I’d be right up there.) Would love to see another with commentary!
Thank you! If I ever have a commission to make another humidor, I’ll definitely do another one with a voiceover. This is one of my earliest videos, before I was doing commentary.
That’s a gorgeous box, im trying to make a humidor soon myself, I’m sure it’ll take quite a few hours to build something far simpler than yours… but it’s better than buying a “humidor” and receiving a pine box lol…. Madness. Excellent quality video 👍
Absolutely beautiful work. As a cigar smoker I’d suggest a few minor things. Ditch the analog hygrometer (they are junk and inaccurate). No one uses florists foam so ditch those and make a sleeve for boveda packs in the top. Love the veneer work.
The guy who commissioned it wanted those for aesthetic purposes. I think his plan was always to stick boveda packs in the bottom along with a digital hygrometer. That is also why the other moisture packs can be removed without a trace that they were there.
New subscriber. What a beautiful work of art, great job! I would be honored to store my cigar collection in that humidor. I found that time lapse videos documenting my boat restoration used significantly less data and can be easier to edit vs. real time video.
I just built some white oak and grenadillo boxes for my groomsmen.... This is amazing work. I couldn't believe what an endeavor a few nice boxes was, but this humidor is on an entirely different level. I know the nice tools make a big difference, but it's clear you are a real artist. Well done, and where can I buy one?
Hello! Amazing job!!! I would like to know the brand of the hand planer, I've never seen one with the lateral guide you have. And also what type of glue do you use for the decorative layer on the top? Thanks in advance!!!!
Outstanding work, I am impressed. I do have a question. It looks like your top and bottom are solid lumber rather than veneered ply. Have you has any issues with expansion?
Actually the top and bottom are veneered ply. The solid Spanish cedar panels float in the lining. I sold this, so I can’t put eyes on it myself, but the guy who bought it told me a few weeks ago that it was functioning perfectly.
@@catspawcustoms Good deal, I figured you used veneered ply but wasn't sure. I've built several humidors myself but nothing on the level you're doing. It really is impressive. Thanks for sharing your work
Before the video was able to load, i read your comment first. I was confused when you mentioned "patience" then I played the video and it said: Day 1. Oh boy
I’ve got a Jet 3hp collector with a 25’ hose I move when needed for the larger machines. I plan to build a bigger shop in a few years and then I’ll have dedicated ducting. I also use a Festool CT26 for the small tools, and a pen old rigid shopvac for a few things with 2” ports. Dust goes to the dump.
The box came out beautifully, in spite of the early setback. I made a humidor and lined it with Spanish Cedar also. Since it was made for sale I didn't season it. after several months I noticed that some sap was leaching out of the boards. Has this happened to you? If so how did you fix it? Also, Andrew Crawford in the UK makes some beautiful brass hinges that require a straight forward mortising cut on the router table. Saves a lot of tie over quadrant hinges.
I am not aware of any sap leaching out of the wood. But this was a sale item. I haven’t heard of any issues though. Lest I heard from the buyer was it was operating perfectly after the first six months.
The Spanish cedar doesn’t move hardly at all, and the solid sides are only 7-8” wide so even if they did, it would be a minuscule amount. The veneer is about 1/32” thick so that will flex with the cedar as well. If the sides were thinner, I’d probably do a veneer layer on the inside to counteract cupping, but at 3/4” thick, they aren’t going to cup. The top and bottom panels were veneered onto plywood and the Spanish Cedar panels float. The end-grain on them was also sealed to keep as much moisture out.
That particular humidor was $1500 plus shipping. It was pretty big as humidors go. Something smaller would be cheaper, or something only lined in Spanish cedar, rather than entirely in the cedar would be cheaper.
Hi, do you have links for the gear you used? I would love to use the same stuff for one I’m making. I can’t seem to find anything online like the hygrometer you’ve used.
Well done, brother.

Outstanding! At first I thought you were going a little overboard. But then the quality and beauty became clear.
Inspiring, mind blown, so much knowledge, patience and skill went into the build and the documentation of it. Thanks!

I like the brass tag with the serial number. I may steal that one.

Thank you, but sorry, no plans exist for that one.
Gracias por compartir
Wow just WOW!!!! Just out of curiosity what would it cost for you to make one for someone?
Thanks! I don’t take commissions anymore but if I did for this it would be maybe $1500 - $2000 depending on whatever materials costs are these days.
Beautiful work and loved the integration of the humidifier. Can you tell me what brand of humidifier you used and where it can be obtained?
Thank you! It is a FUNEW cigar humidifier that I got on Amazon.com. They don’t appear to be available anymore.
Craftsmanship at its finest
Thank you!
paul reed Thank you!
Beautiful box! Great design. Be interested to know what the backing was on the veneer.
It was just paper backed veneer, commercially available
Great work 👍 May you training me at your place?!

Hello! Amazing job!!! I would like to know the brand of the hand planer, I've never seen one with the lateral guide you have. And also what type of glue do you use for the decorative layer on the top? Thanks in advance!!!!
I assume you mean the Lee Valley/Veritas shooting plane, and the glue was Gel contact cement.
Love the Spaceballs reference....

Hi… it is amazing job👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻. You make it with your heart ❤️. We see that. It is possible to order one from you?
Thank you. Unfortunately not at this time. My backlog is far to long to accept any new orders.
wow. I actually watched that all the way through. I can do some decent stuff, but I sure don't have that level of patience.

I love your shop. I'm just starting to build mine. I will have to get into a dust collection system. What do you do with your dust?
I’ve got a Jet 3hp collector with a 25’ hose I move when needed for the larger machines. I plan to build a bigger shop in a few years and then I’ll have dedicated ducting. I also use a Festool CT26 for the small tools, and a pen old rigid shopvac for a few things with 2” ports. Dust goes to the dump.
Incredible craftsmanship! How can I buy one of your Humidors?
Thank you for the praise. I’ve got a pretty busy schedule for at least the next year or so, so I’m not taking any new clients now.
That’s like 10k worth of labor.
new sub. rad
this is absolutely awesome. incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail. well done! do you sell these?
Thank you, and yes, though they are all made custom to order.
@@catspawcustoms what’s something like this cost?
@@matt02468 One that size with those materials, $1,500 depending on where it is shipped to.
@@catspawcustoms I was keeping track of material costs and the labor hours you referenced. You should be selling a box like this for no less than $2k
@@billballeza377 true, but not many people respect what handmade, custom work is worth.
Wow. nice humidor. What is the thickness of cedar wood used for inner lining?
Thank you. The lining is 1/4” thick.
Shit. I thought I was accomplishing something by making a coupe shelves out of acrylic for a couple of pelican cases.
Damn nice job.
Thank you!
Did you just buy the water pack or whatever those things are that are magnetic on the lid separately?
I got them on Amazon.
Now that’s what I call I humidor !
Can I buy it?????
Thank you for the praise. You can commission one, but I am starting to have quite a backlog of pending jobs again.
Been interested in building one. But.. Can i use solid stock for the exterior and line it with Spanish cedar ?.
You definitely could.
Wow!

Did you coat the insides of your outer box with something to limit wood movement due to the veneer on the outside? Or is the cedar solid enough?
The Spanish cedar doesn’t move hardly at all, and the solid sides are only 7-8” wide so even if they did, it would be a minuscule amount. The veneer is about 1/32” thick so that will flex with the cedar as well. Amazing work!! Do you sell these humidors?
I do, amongst many other items. If you’re interested in a humidor similar to this or different, email me at catspawcustoms@gmail.com.
Nice....
others woods for this project? any suggestion
The thing about a humidor is anything on the outside is fine, but the inside really has to be the Spanish Cedar.
Were the top and bottom pieces also Spanish cedar? Or was it plywood to avoid wood movement?
Thanks!
There were a couple layers. Floating spanish cedar on the inside and plywood for the outer part, to prevent movement issues.
🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Cat's Paw, may I ask what you have used to seal the endgrain of the board near @3:13? Regular Woodglue?
Yes, regular wood glue.
Very nice humidor. Where do you get the hygrometer and humidity packs?
Those came off Amazon
@@catspawcustoms ok thank you
top!
How much such gorgeous humidor would cost ?
That particular humidor was $1500 plus shipping. It was pretty big as humidors go. Something smaller would be cheaper, or something only lined in Spanish cedar, rather than entirely in the cedar would be cheaper.
What is the tool being used around the 9:40 mark? It seems like a convenient thing to have on the job site
Digital angle gauge. It has a magnet in the base.
Very nice work. Where did you git your hinges.
Thank you, I got the hinged from woodcraft.com. They’re Brusso quadrant hinges.
@@catspawcustoms Thanks for the quick reply. Those look very beefy
Hi, do you have links for the gear you used? I would love to use the same stuff for one I’m making. I can’t seem to find anything online like the hygrometer you’ve used.
Sorry, I don’t have links. This was made two years ago. I got the parts on amazon so if they still sell them it shouldn’t be too hard to find.
