  • This is just a basic, traditional machinist's chest build video. Here's a link to where I purchased the hardware: gerstnerusa.co...

    Very nicely done Sir , your way of installing the felt liners is brilliant !👍 the only thing I'd do differently if I were to build one for my self
    would be to change the hardware to a darker version of aged antique brass or even a cast iron which would blend in with the Walnut
    even better (imho) I'm not really a fan for shiny chrome with wood / 🙏🙏😸😺

    That's just beautiful, thanks for sharing! I might scale this down somewhat for a jewellery box. And wow, _great_ tip for gluing the material to a precut backer before inserting it, I always make a meal of that step! 👍

    Greetings from across the pond. Loved watching the video so much I've watched it at least 3 times and will again. I wish I'd found this before starting on my solid cherry version. I'm also using gerstner products. Can you tell me what size holes you drilled for the front panel locking pins and springs? Keep up the sawdust making kind regards Paul

    I'd definitely love to see this done primarily with hand tools! 👍

      The originals are made with machine tools, and the correct joints (NOT the ones used here) would be very difficult by hand. Gerstner have a video showing manufacture.

      @memilanuk 2 місяці тому

      @@Tensquaremetreworkshop I realize that.
      But he did say he's done them by hand in the past, and asked if we'd like to see that. Hence my post.

      @Tensquaremetreworkshop 2 місяці тому

      @@memilanuk Ahh, so you want to see the wrong joints made by hand? The original is very much an engineer's approach to woodwork. It all goes together without fixings (apart from the furniture) and interlocks beautifully. They use veneered ply for back, bottom and inside bottom, so that wood movement does not interfere with the machined approach. They have been making them for almost 100 years- a testament to the design.

      @@memilanuk In this case, yes. It is a beautiful and logical construction. Why change it? A pastiche.

    Nice piece, but you whipped through the build a little too quickly to really understand what you were doing in some steps. I hope you do a slower edit of this build with a little more detail. I reckon a 20-30min version would do your skills more justice. Really nice job thouugh. This type of tool chest is on my project to do list
