It took me until now to realize this but, Ford bringing back the giant gasser V8 is the coolest thing ever! Like come on we haven't had a low rumbling gas hog V8 since the days if the 454 or even then 460
What about the GM 8.1 vortec 🤔
You forgot about the Vortec 8100, which was basically a stroked and slightly moder.nized version of the 454 and was offered in GM's 3/4 ton or larger trucks until 2009. Still, it's been a long time since we've had a mainstream production "big block" V8. One could probably make a pretty good argument for Dodge's V10 being a "big block" but it certainly doesn't have the same rumble.
@@SeanHarlow ford had a v10 also
@@sevirz13 Yeah, but I wouldn't call it a "big block" because it's pretty much just a 5.4 with two extra cylinders stuck on the back, and the 5.4 itself is pretty much just a stroked 4.6, so in my book the entire modular family falls under the small block category,
That said I have now found out that the Dodge V10 is actually based on the LA family V8s, just they also stroked it so the relationship to the 5.9 wasn't as obvious to someone not looking for that detail. I retract my suggestion that the Dodge V10 was a big block.
@@SeanHarlow Defenetily, the 8496 is one of my favorite motors! I thought it fell under 454 cause its almost the same! Even then though, the 496 was ended in 2009, and the Magnum V10 ended in 2003. We haven't had a truly massive V8 since then!
They’re gonna sell a crap ton of the 7.3’s! Low maintenance, set up for longevity, and way lower initial cost.
Ya I don't think there has been this much interest in any HD truck in a long time. Every time Ram or Ford ups the power on their diesels there is a small demographic that jumps on them but not anywhere near the amount of interest from all kinds of people who really work their trucks that there is in this 7.3
Yea I feel like the 6.2 might be losing a lot of sales, maybe enough for ford to decide to discontinue it.
What size fuel tank on those F550? Thanks!
Earthroamer uses the 550 I believe for their builds for the ultimate off road camper.
I have two F-350's from the 90's. One has the 7.3 IDI and the other I swapped in a 12v Cummins. I tow a 20k pound gooseneck several times a year and if I was to be looking for a new truck, I'd be looking really hard at a new XL F-350 DRW with the 7.3 gas engine.
Looks like it will get work done 👍🏽
He’s what I find most impressive. Ford invited (I’m assuming invited) UA-cam auto journalists to this event. Basically here’s our toys, come play and tell the world what you think.
That 7.3 gaser that Ford is putting in it's HD trucks is an awesome engine. I loved the big 454 and 460. Those in a big engines were awesome. You sure didn't get very good mileage but, could do the job. Thanks for sharing JD, I enjoyed the video review.
I don’t think I’ll ever need a truck of this magnitude, but I like trucks. Especially Ford F series trucks. Nice review.
You can get some work done with that one
Awesome video
straight pipe it, do it.
do it now.
The 7.3 gas is imo the best engine they have made. Not a ford fan but if I got one I’d get the 7.3 easy pick for me
The 7.3 is a good idea to get away from emissions but I still don't know if it's worth $2k above the 6.2. They output similar ish numbers but the 7.3 does it at lower rpm. It kinda makes sense to have the 7.3 in a dump truck though if you wanna get away from emissions.
Anxious to see the F600...
I Still wish that there was an option for a manual transmission.
Those days are over
What is the axle rating on a 2020 F-350 dually 4x4 cab and chassis with 169 wheelbase ? I know it has HVW of 14000 Thankyou great video 👍
Finally a bigger screen in a ford
My F350 SRW had a bit of a rough ride unladen, but rides much better once I brought up the gross weight to just under 10,000 lbs.
Wow I would’ve never guessed that it was a big block
MattyG 724 it’s not.
I would only say get a class 4 or 5 truck for towing if you are doing it commercially, say either for construction, large scale lawncare or hotshotting. The same way a class 3 dually pickup will handle towing that 30k trailer just fine a few times a year, or a half ton could tow 10k+ every now and then. And we all know the powertrains are no longer the limiting factors for almost all towing situations, but now the brakes, suspension and curb weight of the tow vehicle.
I would like to hear your pros and cons of a 5th wheel vs bumper hitched trailer.
I want one for hauling wood.. would be great big loads and easy traveling bush roads also hard to get places
No 6 speed manual transmission 🙃
haven't had since 2010. less than 1 percent of truck sales.
this is why I have a RAM 2018 3500 DRW diesel 4x4 crew cab with the G-56
XLT should have the chrome alcoa wheels?
Impressive for a gas engine . ☺👍👍✔🌎🐬✨🌠
Speaking of trucks, Big Truck Big RV have you ever seen an ATC Aluminum Toy Hauler travel trailer? I recently saw one up close at the RV show here in Cleveland Ohio and I was wondering about 3 things. 1) I was wondering could my 2008 gas engine Smart Fourtwo be hauled in one? 2) the All Pro RV rep said that the trailer without options weighs 7,000 lbs ,but when I questioned him about adding options like rooftop solar panels, lithium batteries, a generator, what would the trailer weigh before I even included the weight of my Smart fourtwo, bedding, clothing, water and other supplies, he couldn't even give me a guess. So should i be worried if the rep couldn't answer the question? 3) when questioned the rep said that no matter what this trailer ( and there are 5 different size trailers ),no matter the size, and what Toy/car I chose to haul in it would be half-ton truck towable. Should I believe him even though every fiber of my being not to especially after watching all of your videos on travel trailers, Fifth wheels, Toy hauler fifth wheels and Toy Hauler travel trailers, and even different size and syles of trucks. So what kind of Truck should I be looking at buying if I decide to buy an ATC Aluminum ToyHauler travel Trailer, if the empty weight is 7,000 lbs and then I add a Smart Fourtwo car plus all the necessary supplies and such. Should I be looking at a 3/4 ton truck or a 1 ton truck or does the length plus the cargo weight make a difference when choosing a truck to haul it?And what do you think of an ATC Toy Hauler travel trailer? I don't need it to be super fancy on the inside ,because I plan on being outside most of the time. Thoughts please.
Hold up did I see a power seat for the driver side on that f550? I never knew regular cabs could get a power seat option.
They even offer heated seat on the XLT premium package for chassis cabs. Once you start building and pricing them you realize how seriously Ford takes work trucks.
Would make for a nice town cruiser.
Would look right with a salt hopper in back and a V plow up front.......and in Canada in January
Hell yeah brother
The end shots, looks like someone fitted car tyres to the truck, they look way undersized for the wheel well.
That's because you're looking at a 4wd, medium duty truck. Aesthetics come secondary to the necessities that make it a 500 series work truck.
450s and 550s have looked that way since they changed the front end back in 05. The big fender flares are to accommodate a wider axle than the 350s
Did they put the 10-speed in that truck? I wish someone would make a hauler body that looks like a pickup bed. The F450 pickup is awesome but I don't believe that EGR & DPF with give me the reliability that I need for the places that I want to travel.
Yes, the 10 speed will be offered up to the F-600, the 650 and 750 retain the old 6 speed.
Were you able to get out on the road and see how the power was?
May want to check what TFL truck found on their dyno results for the 7.3L before claiming something is “dyno certified”.
Dyno certified is referring to the cab and chassis trucks being derated not that Ford ( or ram or gm) claim exact power output at the rear wheels.
Do you remember the truck Hemi. The 392ci. That's the 6.4 now. The car Hemi was the 426ci.
Another Big ford truck Big RV episode.
Still enjoy them, somewhat.
We have that same truck at my job, but is a year older and the gasser option is just not powerful enough. Already gone through 3 motors and 2 transmissions😬😬
This 2020 should come with the new Gidzila 7.3L and brand new 10 transmition,,,
Dies the truck at ur work has the same motor & transmition???😕
Why carpet? Trucks should make carpet a special order option. Rubber floors should be standard. I don’t drive in house shoes, I wear my muddy work boots.
No no rubber makes it feel cheap and carpet adds one more thing to dampen road noises.
What is the difference in longevity between the 6.7 and the 7.3? I'm trying to decide which will be the engine for me
The lead engine stated that the 7.3 with its forged steel crank, 4-bolt and crossbolt mains, variable displacement oil pump, and pushrod design are centered around reliability, low operational cost and maintenance. Outright performance was secondary.
APGJuggernaut I can guarantee you it will be less problematic than a diesel out of warranty!
Check out the Rev n Evan channel on UA-cam they tear apart one and have the most content of the Godzilla motor
On the topic of a regular cab dually, do you think that configuration can handle a large 5th wheel (~38ft) the same as a longer wheel base dually? I’ve just heard that the longer wheelbase base makes for a more stable tow.
I’m looking at the 2020+ F350 DRW with a 7.3l 4.30 rear end to get that 20,000lb+ tow rating. I want an extended cab, but I’m not sure it’s worth the extra $2,500 in cost since I don’t tow often. If the regular cab DRW can tow a big 5th wheel safely, I think I’d be ok with that.
CombativeThames FYI, the GCWR is the same regardless of wheelbase for the F350 and F450. So the standard cab 2wd will have the highest tow rating since it is a lighter truck and wheelbase doesn’t seem to play into the ratings either way. This is for 5th Wheel/Gooseneck towing.
Combative The shorter wheelbase is MORE manueverable in tight quarters !!!!
Crew cab?
Didi they have a F-600 there? I believe they are the same size and 21,000 GVWR.
My buddy has an F-1000 with the 2.3 4 banger turbo. Now what?
Fanciest interior of a dump truck ever.
Talking about Big Trucks, what about buying a Semi (Peterbilt, Mack, Freightliner...) to pull a 5th Wheel? Weight of the rig would not be an issue, carry an extra 100 gallons of water behind the cab for boondocking (or whatever). It works for Super C's, but what about 5th Wheels?
Edit: oops, been a couple years but you already answered my question. ua-cam.com/video/ov6t0XRR49g/v-deo.html
Throw a 10' Boss vee plow & call it a day . 80k
Por qué ford no vende éstos modelo maa equipo y bonitos en México
Who is this for? If I'm putting 15K pounds in my truck wouldn't it be better to have a diesel?
Blzt
Many business owners don’t want a diesel. These trucks tend to idle A LOT while on the job and that’s not good for emissions on a modern diesel. Plus the maintenance cost.
For example. My 2017 F550 V10 has 50440 miles, its total engine hours are 4454 and 2984 of those hours are idling.
gas motors can handle 15k easy
@@scottback3020 if you're constantly idling your truck that's actually a plus for the diesel. I live so far north that it gets cold enough where if you are able to start your truck at - 50, you don't turn it off.
@@85square yeah but the wear and tear on a gas job is much higher than a high compression diesel engine
@@blzt3206 idling use to be a plus for diesels, but modern diesel engines will plug up the egr, and shorten the life of the dpf if they are idled constantly.
The savings on cost over the diesel will buy a lot of gasoline. This engine is really geared for fleets or municipalities that need the job done cheep, not fast.
Does it get the 10 speed transmission or is it the 6 speed?
I imagine it gets the 10 speed like all of the other 7.3 equipped models.
Went onto the Ford website and did find that the cab on chassis get the 10 speed.
10 speed but if requires pto it’s a 6 speed
Ok, no e450 only has 4 leaf springs..
Is the v10 still an option?
I don't think so I think the 7.3 was meant to replace it I think the v10 is only available now in Mexico
Hi have a nice day alright good to know
It was phase out in the mid 2010s
@@rustypliers74 NOPE !!!! Was still offered in the 550 650 and the big motor home chassis !!!!
Wilbur Finnigan I'll be damned thank you for the knowledge
"7.3 is a really great engine." How do you know? It's so new to market how can anyone know. Because Ford invented you to play with toys is why. I love Fords but will never buy the 1st year of any new engine model.
Considering the 7.3 is something like 50 year old tech, it's much more likely it'll be very reliable.
@@dzortizi1 50 years huh?
@@gen-x-zeke8446 you tell me. How long has the 454 been around? Just throwing out a number.
@@dzortizi1 Off the top of my head, I would say around 1970...ish, until around 1996-'97. That would be around 27 years. I think they has a time where they put one into a '70-'73...ish Chevelle after the 396, not that the 396 was not enough. Listen bud, I love cars and engines andf have known them for a long time ( I am 42 in April) so it's all we had was big V-8's. My Favorite was the 455 we has in the big maroon Oldsmobile. A true torque monster and magnificent ride. I'm 100% honest.
I can't remember who made the first "Big Block" but of course they're going to share similar DNA if you will, BUT that is Okay. Ford hit a homerun here with this motor and in 25 years, the "Son of 460" will still come up in conversations like we're doing now. Look at the bright side. I am a Ford guy, but like I mentioned, my favorite engine growing up was a 455. in '76 it had 245 H.P. (I'd have to research torque numbers). I am 99% sure it was a "Oldsmobile engine".
So, as a mechanical engineer, machinist, automotive machinist having fully machined and built over 3000 engines including precision balancing on Sterwart Warner, Balance Technology, Hines, and CWT balancers, I am not sure where you come from. However, I would not refer to the 7.3 as a beast, especially as an owner or seven Super Duty Diesels from 2000 through 2017. These are beasts. The 7.3 barely compares to a carbureted 454 BB Chevy. Give me an example of the value other than a daily driver when compared to a work-producing truck with a 6.7. The numbers do not add up. No one in their right mind would put a dump box on a chassis cab to NOT do daily hauling and work. Therefore, 6.7 is the value. Tell me I’m wrong. 😊🤷♂️
10,000 dollar option for the 6.7 thats the value
The truck definitely needs a full air ride rear suspension. In the front would be good also
Its a SB not a BB
Right! Idk why everyone thinks this is a big block lol. It’s classified as an oversquare small block!
IMHO without the diesel that truck loaded to the max I don't see it being able to get out of it's own way.
Myles Hansel it’s all about the gearing . I think this comes with 4:30 gears .
Why? Are you planning to drag race it? Has much more hp and close to same torque of even diesels of days gone by. Say 20 years or os ago. I would take my chances depending on how I would use the truck. That is after they get about a year of shake down. I never buy anything the first year it is out.
@@larryselfridge6733 that 550. Most likely comes standard 4.88 gears. Easpically with 10spd.
Well, at least you stated it's your opinion, sparing me the time to explain how you're wrong.
@@mrhangfire1 I'm willing to learn, explain?
I don't like how they're so high off the ground. We have a 550 at work and it is a pain. We also have a F700 low pro, A 97 with a 12 valve Cummins. I'll take that over the 550 anyday
It's lame not to buy a diesel in a work truck.....for just mileage alone
Not really from a company perspective they rather have gas trucks. All our 3/4 tons for our techs are gassers. Less maintenance
Mileage? The 6.6-8mpg I get out of my f550 at $2.50 a gallon is hardly a savings. Pay more for a motor, that is more costly to repair, and gets about the same mileage full or empty. I often would rather have the gas engine, get better mileage overall, cheaper gas, and usually not that much less pulling power. You can argue longevity, but that is only relevant if you are doing highway miles, since the truck is usually wiped out long before that engine goes. I can still replace the gas engine cheaper than the initial cost of the diesel motor off the sales lot. The one thing this video stated was that this truck has the greatest torque in it's class, but they did not state if it was compared to the diesel or all motors available, so we don't know exactly what they determine the "class' to be.
meat and potatoes...Thx !
:-))) :-)))
We don’t need no diesel junk
These have to be the roughest riding and most gas guzzling trucks I've ever driven. Unloaded you won't even get 300km per tank. Loaded you're lucky to hit 200 hauling 1/10th it's max load.
Not a big block. Big ci small block.
I thought it be cool to see a 7.3 V10 gasser anybody??
What's interesting?? Just another one of those Hollywood High Roller car salesman videos displaying its fancy interior features and totally wasteful electronics. Make it more interesting show its full maximum load capacity under normal working conditions what its strengths and weaknesses are capable of doing
I don’t understand why anyone would by a F550 gas engine.
Yoy obviously dont know many different types of work
James Anderson educate me then, who specifically needs a F550 with a gas motor?
Landscaping companies, tree cutting companies, anyone starting out that needs a big truck but dont want the extra maintenance with a diesel. Should i keep going? Lol
James Anderson none of those guys buy a 7.3, they would buy a used diesel before a gas F550 because they pull goosenecks with skid steers and compact excavators that the 7.3 doesn’t have enough power to handle. Plus, have you seen the mpg specs? Pulling 17k lbs the real world numbers are 3-4 mpg which is pathetically pitiful.
@@zfilmmaker were do you get your information from your dad? i haul 3 tons of stone with a bobcat on a trailer with my boss' dump bed 350 and it has the 5.4 triton lol also take that truck nd haul 23 nd 25ft trailers even with a 250 6.2, also use 450 nd 550 diesels. I live in the real world that 7.3 is a beast, if your company buys used diesels its a sad day to tell you that your common sense was lost
Who cares about a dump truck. Tired of seeing nothing but Fords here
show us some other trucks beside Ford all the time.
