Exactly what you say here: I wanted 200 because I wanted them to be small but I get nervous at the thought of having to maintain 200 locs since I do want to do it myself. I just got 162 starter locs (comb coils) installed yesterday and like you I think I will find it to be a happy medium for me! I hope mine start to look like yours! They're gorgeous!
The 160s were way easier to manage than the 200s for sure! Although, at some times I still think it was too many but I didn’t want my locs any thicker than that. I hope you enjoy your loc journey/experience!
I mentained mine and wanted at least 350 and counted 244 after combining some locs I am heartbroken and want a do over but don’t want the start over again.
I'm at 163. I'm excited

I love your locs & our journey a little similar, but I’ve been loc’d for 3yrs. I have 179 locs & I started with 222 locs, I still wanna combine more to get 140-150 though. Also, didn’t realize that some ppl believe counting them is bad luck. Weird🙃

The breakdown of the number was amazing. I just started my locs. I have 272 and the number adds to 11 and when I looked it up it said that the angels are telling me to take action and make a radical shift in my life so dope.
The number was really important to me this time around. 11 is a master number and has a beautiful meaning. Best of wishes on your loc journey! You’re gonna have so much versatility with the amount you have.

They were skinny maybe because you kept retwisting them lol let them be. I have 107 and they’re thick

I agree! With my first set, 3 important numbers added up to five and only added to my uncertainty and need/want to take them down. I’m glad I started over.

I chose 163 for me. It's to honor my grandma who had 88 trips around the sun, honor myself as I lock for my 50th and honor my children- I became a mom at 25. 1+6+3 is a perfect 10. Cool!!!

I'm 15 male and my dad gave me starter coils after i had braids for the first time and i have 28, Im so worried that it's not going to look good 😭😭
I want to get micro locs, but I want them really small where they’ll eventually mimic like loose hair. My hair is 4A fine and low density but I’m not sure if 150-180 is enough
150-180 wont give you the look you want for micro locs. You’re gonna want to up that number to get that specific look. You could try looking at creators with a 300+ loc range. Your number will come down to the size of your head and the other things you mentioned like density. I’m sure you’ll love them! Micro locs are so versatile and beautiful.

I have been considering going with locs for my thick natural hair. Love the length of yours. What's the best way to start and how do I know of the loctician I find knows what they are doing!
Thank you! I think the best way to start would be whatever works best for your hair type. I’ve never been to a loctician so I’m not sure of how’d you know but go with your gut feeling, always.

See, that’s a good reason to try and gauge the amount you have as well…for styling purposes!
People only count locs for the sake of the hair volume or density to the size of the person's head itself. Thass it.
Those are reasons as well. Not the only reasons, seeing that the number itself was important to me in my case.

New Subbie here and you and your locs are beautiful. I recently decided to start my locs and steer away from loc extensions this time. This journey has been interesting and not for the weak but I am enjoying it thus far. Watching ladies like yourself has definitely helped the transition.

I have 122 so I say 109 because yours look just a tad bit thicker in the parts than mine.
Come through 122! The ones one back are smaller because of my hair being thicker, and the front is a tad bit bigger due to it being fine in that area.
