Hi Scotty, I put a twin turbo 1UZ in my VK about 16 years ago and modified my rocker cover to clear the booster. Slightly cut it down and welded on some alloy plate to make it step down for the clearance I needed. Just another option for you. Cheers.
@@STREETMACHINETV Another option is a hydro booster, they are expensive though. I had the same issue with a VVTi in a 90 series prado, just accepted the fact I have to remove booster and master to change #8 spark plug.
@@STREETMACHINETV Obviously a solution would present itself eventually, but I'm relieved and stoked that you've found it! This thing is going to be bloody ace when she's done! I can't wait. Cheers Scotty, rock on mate "-)
Well done scotty. Would love to see more aussie collabs with bcw, skid factory, mcm, haltech etc take something to the yanks get the Cleeter crew onto it and have an aussie vs yanks in something haha
If I remember correctly Al from the skid factory ran into a similar issue and used a Subaru booster and master cylinder to solve it. The booster pushed the master cylinder out farther from the firewall but was several inches smaller in diameter.
Retro power in the UK recently made some billet Valve covers for a 1UZ they fitted to a BJ / FJ45 Landcruiser - maybe they might send you the file so you could adjust it to fit around the booster and also accommodate the coil on plug conversion - worth a try.
Scotty you'll get it.on that note cars or combustion engines been around since 1886 and its still Chuck's a spanner in the works thats why we do it all for sense of accomplishment.peace
Just thinking scotty mate the rocker cover on the brake booster side, if internally you have enough room, then cut away enough space for the rocker cover to move around while the engine is running and clear the brake booster as well, easier than replacing the brake booster i would think IMO. 👌👌👍👍🚗🚗😀😀😎😎
By memory a fella out on Barry St Bayswater converted a VN and he had same issue ,mods to sump and engine mounts to drop it a inch or two to clear booster and manifold /header issues ,good luck bud im sure you will sort it ,not a huge issue
Hi Scotty i have done a commodore 1uz conversion. i Had to run k frame spacers drops the engine down more. But you can run the Willwood kit if needed. But not the best on the street
I had to cut a corner off my rocker cover, and ali weld a plate over to fig my 1uz into VS SS. But then the engine came forward to get the 3" turbo down pipe past the fire wall. To get the mod plate, must have 20mm from the body of the car.
This build is definitely giving me inspiration and helping me troubleshoot my own build of a 1995 Lexcen Sedan with a 93 Soarer 1UZFE swap, have both cars waiting to do the swap. While mine wont be a modified engine (just a straight swap over) knowing about these clearance issues and geniune Toyota parts from Dubai really helps! Can I ask Scotty, what did you source for the front sump swap over and did you get the oil pickup relocator with the front sump parts?
HydroBoost for the brake MC maybe? Looking good though Scotty. Such a pain when you have to wait for parts that you didn't think would be required. Good thing it's not a daily driver cos then that'd really suck!!!
They're such good looking motors especially all cleaned up and blasted like that. Any tips on how you got the front sump? Its been a major hurdle I've had in progressing with my build as the only ones i find have an asking price more than what i paid for my whole 1uz motor and box 😢
Can you guys go more in depth with the ice blasting process for the manifold crossovers? I’ve seen them use dry ice blasting on old Porsche undersides and it brings them up better than new.
Also, for exhaust manifolds, do a pair of logs and run them to the front of the engine so you can fit a single G30-770 turbo for RIDICULOUS boost response and big-block torque output throughout the entire rev range...
That would be way too small, it'll choke the shit out of it, sure it'll have great response but the back pressure in the exhaust housing will be huge and a 4-litre turbo with that boost response will not make for a good streeter.
Scotty, the K26's are supposed to go over the powerlines not inside the Carnage workshop! Looks like you go through a few pairs, the soles must be soft compound racing rubber.
Good episode Scotty. You're having trouble fitting it in a commo bay? I picked a 91 ls400 for $225 as a donor for my Gemini wags and after buying and setting up a m90 on the 1uz I quickly realised how small the gems bay is in comparison to the 1u. With the 1uz sold the gem's now getting a 253 built to 'street machine's little league' build spec's.
These seem like a real no fuss engine that could probably fly you to the moon and back. Wonder how it’d go slotting into a classic Holden. It looks quite wide at the top!
Engine looks good in the wagon, shame about the bloody booster bro! Hope a smaller one can be found. Personally I’d use that transmission ( 400) out of Trolvo as it has proved it can handle a good hard kicking.
cut the mounts and lower the engine as the new intake looks like you will be cutting a hole in the bonnet but then a old school b&m super charger would look nice on the 1uz
Was the price fair on that oil pump ? Actually I'd be keen as to see wts been spent on all the carnage cars that would be sick an GD for ppl to grasp what it takes to make things fast
I own a 3uz 4.3 Crown Majesta and I must ask. How come you ordered from Dubai as opposed to locally? Was it cheaper to get parts from Dubai? genuinely curious.
Being a turbo engine would it not be better to just find the smallest booster that bolts up and run a vac can somewhere? The engine does look good in the bay tho Scotty 👍
The 1UZ factory haha. Al n Woody have done a couple of 1UZ conversions on the channel plus all the other conversions Al has done in the past. Definitely someone I would ask if I was stuck with a conversion.
@STREETMACHINETV I thought I posted a link to the willwood master cylinder that deletes the booster. UA-cam must have taken it down but there is a willwood option
I havent gone through all the comments, but one of the "old" fixes for problem like this came from a Gemini. Most will be tired by now...but there should be a modern alternative. Or go completely Back to the Future and breach out a remote VH44!!
I would not change a part because of a bad thread. Instead I wold give it a try to fix it with heli-coil insert. They are stronger than original threads in aluminium and you save money and time for ordering parts.
I like the idea of the Lexen being a registered street driven car. Luv the challenges you tackle Scotty with your builds.❤
Huge respect Scottie ! Building your own engines and doing your own conversions!

That's actually what we're going to do. After looking at every option it actually seemed to the simplest way of solving the issue.

Yeah i was going to comment this, i remember seeing that and seemed like a good solution.
Booster issue aside... HOW BLOODY GOOD DOES IT LOOK IN THERE! Great stuff mate, this is going to be such a cool car.
Looks great doesn't it.
I think this is my favourite project yet. Something hilariously cool about an all ‘Yota V8 Commy. Great donk in a classic Aussie family wagon.
Fantastic build, loving it.
Take care of yourself Scotty, you didn't sound 100% when the new pump showed up.
Al has a wealth of knowledge.

This is always the best way to start my Friday morning.
Uppp the Lexan..... Wow thought ild never say that 😂😂😅 recently picked up a factory 5 speed vn shell tossing up what to throw in it
Look at shifting engine over to the side a bit. As Al from Skid Factory explained, Holden did that when they put the LS into the VT - VZ.

U could use a booster out of a Gemini mate there pretty small would obviously have to mod the bolt holes to fit it properly
Blood donation and carnage day! Love your vid Scotty! Plus 1 for the shoe sponsor
You need a VS V6 plastic booster, much smaller than the big dual metal one

We got the complete set-up, sump, pick-up, baffle, etc. We found it on gumtree, not sure what it was out of.
willwood master cylinder booster delete kit OR
cal custom black single 7 booster which is way more compact

Well done from New Zealand..

Yes I have. It was a Carnage Plus episode called 20 things you didn't know about Scotty, or something like that
Very cool! The wagon toyota should have built!

Did CRS mention brake booster issue? maybe the mounts are flipped the wrong way or something easy
As other have mentioned, clearance the rocker cover was the most common fix for the issue, its what i did for my 1uz vl

Definitely much wider than a pushrod - but not the worst wide load offender for a 32 valve OHC V8, that's for sure.
Engine looks good in the wagon, shame about the bloody booster bro! Hope a smaller one can be found. Personally I’d use that transmission ( 400) out of Trolvo as it has proved it can handle a good hard kicking.

They're marked driver side and passenger
WHERE CAN YOU GET DUNLOP K26's now
cut the mounts and lower the engine as the new intake looks like you will be cutting a hole in the bonnet but then a old school b&m super charger would look nice on the 1uz
Sump doesn't have enough clearance
Try holden Gemini brake booster there allot smaller then the commodore
Would the plastic booster from a later VS be better ? I think they are thinner lenght wise , but they could be larger in circumference
Bound to be some good options out there from the GM parts bin.
Scotty ingenuity😁🇭🇲
Quickest fix is a booster delete, then you have a consistent brake pedal no matter what manifold pressure.
Good investment, hope it pays off in the future
