This was a great time and just the beginning for the women who fight in full contact medieval combat. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. Great job on the documentary!!!

I'm showing this to my wife..... Once she's done in the kitchen.... And I'm not joking or trying to be snide, I'm up here with the kids while she's making lunch. You really will inspire her.

Hell yeah! You killed it out there, i know it’s a bit late to the party for me to say so but it’s about time we had some girls out there kickin ass and representing the one part of our country that isn’t falling to pieces. Way to go girl. I aspire myself to make it out onto the field one day, and though I’m a dude I still think what y’all do is inspiring. Gender and identity don’t make a bit of difference when you’re head to toe in battle rattle and denting the shit out of someone’s helm with a poleaxe =]

The U.S.A. might not have a "european" medieval history but many Americans have ancestors that come from countries that did.

Nice little documentary piece, shame it's 2 years out of date. The caliber of female fighters at IMCF in 2016 is amazing, they really are very skilled & well trained and they could easily a lot of male fighters easily.
Hopefully the BBC will continue to cover the sport in more detail in the future, Maybe have some reporters up in Denmark at next years IMCF covering the English & Scottish teams.

Cross-dressing was a form of heresy at the time, however, but it was not the only thing she was put on trial for. After all, she was a peasant teenage girl who had claimed to receive visions that called her to arms whose king betrayed her to their enemies.

But yeah, each team had to apply the first time once. I admit, I'm not actually an active fighter (yet) but as long as you have good quality armour and weapons, and are willing to train, you should get into the sport no problems.

WHY is it 'courageous' any time a woman does something? She doesn't have to be courageous to don armor and fight...just a giant fkng nerd like the rest of us!!
So sick of people and commentators always feeling the need to talk/praise/hype about what's between their legs. Y'all act like women being boss is a new concept. It's been around for THOUSANDS of years, maybe you should try picking up a book sometime missy.

I hear ya... I was in the SCA in the 80s and there were female fighters, but this generation thinks everything they do is 'ground breaking'.. I qualified against "Sir Fern" who happened to be of the fairer gender.
Media and pop culture today want to pretend the past never happened. There was yet another "first female kicker in college football' recently in the headlines, claiming she was the 'first' and they do it about every 10 years! LOL It's pretty sad and pathetic that this generation has placed women in the same box they broke out of decades ago..

Um... Where's the unit cohesion? The disciplined fighting style?
I would at least ask aspiring women warriors to fight as Greek Hoplites or as Roman Legionaries (whose fighting styles' emphasis was on discipline and unit cohesion rather than brute force), as those types of combat would give them at least some degree of advantage against the brute force of male knights.

    • @David-lu4gq
