Having never played the original I did this fight as a team because I wanted to see what donnallto and arycelle said and I was so proud of my man donnalto since he died got revived and then got the last 40 hp with the cudgel finisher
I ran into this guy as a Rune Fencer. Assumed i'd be able to just beat him like Vyce. Obviously I died quickly and violently. Fought him a second time and easily kited him around with Lightning Bow and didn't take a hit.
I was a ninja. I thought I would never be able to win the duel, until I realized - I was a ninja and I could jump to the top columns, have him just run back and forth, while I drop down, shoot, go back up to the column. Did it take a long time? Yes. But it was gloriously cheesy
I loved this fight when it came up for my play through. I got the game about 2 weeks ago and when I got to here I was like "YES a 1v1!" I just kited him picked up cards and healed if I got low, was not at all hard for someone who just puts in a lil brain power . I wish I recorded it. My class was ninja so it help that I could out run him and I was a melee ninja so I just poked him to death.
This is actually pretty funny lol. I used the ninja and kept him stunned. Also later went back since I did a separate save just to kick his ass again since he made me work for the win. I absolutely destroyed him as a terror knight.
I got this winged boots from one stage before this fight, then I put them on and flew to the highest tiles before the windows. I kept firing magic until he died. Have to fly around to land trajectory. Thought Denam's class was rune fencer (wizard might be even easier). Wouldn't even call this a strat... more like winged boots for the win
My strat first time through ended up being the same, except I had leveled up 1 handed Katana finishers, so I just walked around and spammed finishers at him till he went down.
I chose the second option, not realizing it would result in a regular fight. I thought it would've been a duel regardless like the Vyce chapter 2 battle. Then I saw I need to bring a team, I was like ok, whatever let's bring his old friends Donnalto and Arycelle and maybe it'd be funny if the latter would deliver the coup de grace (didn't quite manage it). Turns out they had some unique dialog in this fight so it didn't turn out to be a bad choice either.
Normal Fight version also has some really nice battle dialogue. I mean I cant deny Arycelle talking with his lover knight can I, Its been brewing since chapter 2. Or Donnalto roasting him. Honeslty these are highlights of Chapter 3 Chaos so... Duel option looks pretty unappealing. Fun Fact: Choosing duel or no changes ALL your units Loyalty. Duel is +5 Law - 5 Chaos, normal version is reverse. Commander uses an army of zombies of my comrades the entire game = No Loyalty change, I sleep My Commander decides to duel some asshole knight = Real shit, -5 loyalty
@@paranoumenon Yes. Two sets of dialogue + when leonar dies she always says arycelle's name. If arycelle was in the fight thanks to normal version she also weeps his name as he dies.
I remember I was stuck at Wiegraf/Velius fight, FFT PSX version, for almost a week. Didn't know about gamefaqs back then. So after levelling/trying a few classes without a single win, I changed all my main units into Monks, including my chemist and let AI played them. I thought Monks were fragile back then because of their bare sprites, so they were my last pick for that fight. But dang, Velius and his archdemons were completely annihilated. All the AI did was simply spamming wave fist after wave fist, and if the targets got too far, earth slashers. TO's Ninjas with move+ and jump+ are one-on-one combat specialists like Monks from FFT.
Hey, at least you had a save to go back to. I was a one slot guy, so I just sat there spamming accumulate and tailwind until phase 2 turned into "some speed god hammer whacks some demon nerd 6 times and leaves without elaborating further"
Id love to see this with every class if you could 😂 you know you wanna. Ive only done this fight once so far and I was a rune fencer. Didnt know what I was in for so my items were not ready. Took me 6 tries
I played this game on all versions from SNES to PSP to Switch and I challenged myself to beat Leonard without using a Ninja. I used a Terror Knight to beat him. At first I thought Frighten would work on him just to lower down his attack but it was not working, fortunately the 2nd finisher for the Hammer had Weaken status. It took me about 2 hours to reset the game until I got the right RNG to overpowered him. It takes about 3 finishers 400+ damage each to finish him.
I couldn't win this duel as an archer even with salves. I ended up switching to being a first time Ninja with double attack to outpace him and hit him with the first finisher once the double strikes rapidly unlocked it.
I just did this fight as a sword and bow rune fencer and it was incredibly easy. After he landed a hit on me it gave me two turns to outrun him. I used that to lure him into the lower part on the side of the map and used the leaden bow skill. He's basically trapped like a sitting duck while I rained death from above with bow and spell. I got 1 of each card, and it worked out well.
This was the fight I learned that Rending Gale hits roll accuracy separately. I managed to inflict him with False strike (Cutlass +1) and he only hit me with one hit on Rending Gale. Still died that time (since I didn't plan very well) but I reckon if you like gambling you could stack that with dodge and use Strengthen to kill him before he kills you. The way I killed him was a Rending Gale crit (had a crit card) after getting him with breached.
So I recently got to this fight, but since I was always preparing myself before each story battle, I just basically ran it as rune fencer (no element change, was ice) with a quick mp restore item and haste. The strategy with the magic helped, and took only one attempt
I did with Ninja Denam with a 1H Dagger and 1H Bow. Just spam the Leadened Finisher (Dark Weight) and he won’t move at all. Got a couple of Phys up Cards and just destroyed him.
If you are lucky. You might get winged boots from a prior battle, at which point you can pelt him away with spells, using elevations against him. But that wont obviously work for a run like this.
I have no idea why people have trouble with this fight. I had Denim as a rune fencer and sped myself up and just beat him with normal attacks from a spear. I would run away when he gets 2 turns in a row, but I got past the fight without getting hit at all without any buff cards.
My first play through was using ninja with double dagger to collect all the attack card and spam the finisher while he catching in pointless. Unfortunately, in reborn ninja late game kinda losing the damage outcome so in my second play through i just using fist berserker thanks for your advice 😂
The PSP duel was very easy if you were boosted with status increased cards…no problem with every class…but that bosses always come with 4 booster cards is a little bit unfair…combined with higher level and better equipment.
He'd be tough even without the cards, you could clown on him any number of ways in PSP. I had an Ironman No Shop No Grind run that could overpower him by just having a Baldur shorty.
Damn I was just lucky leonar stepped on a debuff card so manage to beat him haha
Hah, that's super lucky

He seriously needs to watch that faulty wiring.

This is the same exact thing I did 😂😂
Oh fuck sure
This fight just kind of worked out for me cuz I built Denem as a rune fencer with a heavy spear and lighting element lol
Same, lightning horse cult and spikey sticks in one!
@@CoffeePotato Robo Horse supremacy.
Fight took me one load. After realizing 1v1 wasn't happening without hijinx, went boon of speed, heal, fire missile attack. Easy to kite
@@kylecarey4189 Technically possible, but definitely takes some game knowledge to win this one head on. It's optional for a reason.

I should've shown this at the time, but it's funny how you can snap him in half with just a Brand of the Sacrifice.
I did the same thing, but I jumped on the ledge at the top of the map. He can't get up there but you can as a ninja.
This is actually pretty funny lol. I used the ninja and kept him stunned. Also later went back since I did a separate save just to kick his ass again since he made me work for the win. I absolutely destroyed him as a terror knight.

Honestly some of the best dialogue in the game.

Thanks. It's good to know that some early recruits are still relevant to the story.
You had a problem with that? Quick, learn to use this blowpipe....and now they're loyal forever 🤣
For this and Vyce, I just kept them at range with a spear.
I did this strat on the Law route version by accident. It's probably not nearly as reliable to set this up on that fight but still very possible.

Fire Snake works to, that is what I used because I chose fire for Denam's element, it does about the same damage as Chimera.
Well yeah, it's whatever is on hand. Ninja stuff is fairly flat damage wise.
