- We are now starting to see some great Murray cod fishing with lures including surface lures after a slow start to the season.
This is the second trip in a row that I have caught a couple of nice sized Murray cod.
I love bait fishing, but love lure fishing equally as much, and it is great to be able to catch cod once again using both fishing techniques.

Forgot your water bottle it’s probably at home with your puffer, Tongs etc 🤣🤣🤣🤣 great fishing 🎣 and tips again. Great stuff 👍
Hahaha they're all probably hiding in my hidden landing net. LOL
Hey Robbie I just had to tell you I just had two firsts tonight Caught a Murray cod !!! Im so bloody excited. The eyeometer said 28 - 30cm. In the ovens downstream from Wang on a Jackall pompador surface lure in low light.. thats the second first . Fish on a lure !! This video helped me make the choice. !!
The bird noise you put over the pic of the second cod had my dog looking around to find the birds 🤣🤣
Hahahahaha thats hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
LOL. My dog does the same thing😂
Love that duck story.........
Hahaha It's one that I will never forget. LOL
The noise of summer lol. Cracking stuff boys.
Haha thanks so much Moose.
Another good session. Nice cods Robbie.
robbie you tell some funny stories thanks for telling them
Hey Kelvin thank you for listening to them.
Great session Robbie!
Thanks mate.
Working in the dark has advantages Robbie, I met my Mrs in a cave! (True story) It helped that she couldn't see me! Ha - nice to see you break the surface fish drought. What a strange year! Here's to more surface cod in 21! Can only dream of the south, once again ...
Good to see them coming on Robbie
First cast good on ya mate nice fish
Great work mate, you were on fire! You're right about not giving up on a certain snag, it's amazing how many people will only cast into a spot where they've caught a fish before and ignore the places that they haven't caught one before
Thanks mate, and you're spot on. I see it all the time, people going straight to the spots they know and trust.
What a Catch Robbie Nice Fish
Thanks so much mate.
Nice work guys. The creek river thingys are finally poppin off I see. Well done on catching those big cod.
Thanks champ. After a slow start it is great to finally be getting a few on lures.
Nice work Robbie.
Thanks so much mate.
Robbie have you tried fishing the Loddon river nice yellow belly , cod and plenty of carp to be had. Don’t fish at Bridgewater to many skiers go to the boat ramp on the Bridgewater / Maldon road skiers are not allowed up that area cheers Gus
A NICE way to open 2021!
Thanks mate, sure was! I was stoked.
@@robbiefishing I bet!
Wouldn't we all love our first cast to go like that! Nice one!
Great video Robbie keep up the good
Work
Thanks so much Jet.
I'm in lock down again 5km its icy cold and depressing. Your video just cheered me up immensely. Thanks Brett and Robbie.
Hey Vincent that's a really bugger. I hope you are OK my friend. Stay safe over there.
Good job mate I went out the burrendong dam not far from Wellington NSW and I got 84 fish lots of redfin and carp and then dad got a nice size Yello belly then a cat fish just went out for the day I thought it was good fun for only 4hs
First cast riper cod good jog guys
Thanks Ryleigh. Usually when I do that I end up catching nothing.
@@robbiefishing yeah usally when I go for my first cast no hits or anything
LoL, no friends in fishing, just ask Loretta... ;) Great video mate. Nice first cast cod.
Haha, I'm sure she would agree!
hahahaha I am sure she would agree too. LMAO
Nice fish Robbie
Thanks heaps mate.
Good to see some lures are getting more action. Looks as tho someone has cut the tail of the first cod to identify it later. Great video Robbie 👍🏼
Thanks mate. Yeah I was surprised at the cut in the tail too. Very strange.
Wow sekali lempar langsung strike👍👍👍
Nice video Robbie!
Thank you so much Oli.

Sure is a ripper mate.
Hey robbie good to see that chase baits smuggler works well i just got the same one in black for bass haha
Hey James that's awesome mate. I reckon it's a ripper of a lure.
Great episode. Nice cod first cast and a Brett Corker appearance.
Thanks Fred. Any fishing adventure with Brett is a great adventure.
Great video mate
Thank heaps Michale.
Big boy says hello to Big Boy bloody gorgeous, again watching dinner swim away. Awesome video mate
Thanks you so much mate.
@@robbiefishing hope all is well, God Bless your family & all families in Australia during these trying times.
First cast a 67cm cod nice job Robbie
Thanks mate. Wasn't 67. It was 60. Still a lovely fish buddy.
@@robbiefishing thanks Robbie
Enjoy your fishing Robbie, 2020 was a "right off" for me due to travel restrictions etc (major bummer) 2021 isn't starting much better.! It's been approx -3°c overnight for the past 10days with daytime highs of 1°c local lochs and reservoirs frozen solid, according to the news the UK could be heading back into a full lockdown. 😭
WOW sounds very gloomy for you over there mate. Stay safe and keep warm. We're actually experiencing one if our mildest summers for years. We haven't had a 40 degree day yet... not even close. By this time last year we had always had 7 or 8, as well as bushfires and dust storms. This year is much more bearable.
great video robbie
Thanks so much Timbo.
Looked a fun trip good work enjoyed that one 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Grate video mate
Thanks so much mate.
NICE greenies Robbie & Brett! HNY to you both! Fish ON in '21!
Thanks so much UF. Happy New Year to you too mate.
god all mighty , first cast robbie , bloody oath🔥
Hahaha thanks Sam. Luck was on my side.

Good work fellas.
Getting me keen to get back up soon.
Loving it Robbie makes me miss the east a bit
Got to love them budgie smugglers lol nice cod mate happy new year
Thanks mate, and Happy New Year to you too. They sure do work very well mate.
I just went from one of your older videos to this one good on ya mate
Thank you so much mate. 👍👍
@@robbiefishing what's the best yabby bait mate
Great stuff 🤠 well done brother
Thanks so much champ.
Have seen a few baby birds drop from nest hollow into water, whilst fishing, cant get out of rivers edge...
I use the same smuggler for bass
Great video Robbie! :)
Thanks so much mate.
Great video Robbie , I cant go fishing in the rivers at the moment because they are all flooding but we are heading out to a local dam tomorrow that was just a puddle about a year ago but is back up to about 40% now
WOW that is excellent news mate. Which Lake is that?
@@robbiefishing keepit dam 👍
Haha thought you where joking on that first "I'm on" p.s its good to leave the ladies with a bit of suspense once in awhile 😂
hahaha That's what I reckon. I know they will be heartbroken by that closing scene though. LOL
Bravo care.
Hi Robbie great video I’m heading up to Wangaratta next week any spots or lures that are firering up. I’m also headed up bright way as well for some trout so any tips will be appreciated.
Thanks mate. The river is fishing well for cod anywhere in Wangaratta at the moment mate, and the lures used in this video will work as good as any others I reckon.
Hey Robbie have you had hook up issues with the chase bait smuggler? I’ve had about no joke a dozen takes and not a single hook up I’m starting to think the hooks are to small for the profile of the lure?
Gday Robbie I fish in a kayak in the Murrumbidgee river around Wagga what lures would you recommend
hi robbie do you ever fish for baramundy that would make a nice vidio .
Rip snorta Roberto
Can you please do a video on the best recipe to cook Murray cod?
Hi Rob, to be honest even when I do keep one which isn't often, I don't do anything flash with it. I just fillet it, sometime use egg and breadcrumbs and sometimes not and fry it in some margarine. The flesh is white and juicy and very sweet, it would be easy to spoil by going all gourmet on it I reckon.
Thanks for replying wow!
Yeh I agree, sometimes less is more.
If you’re bothered, one day could you do a Q and A on Instagram? I grew up fishing the dams with my dad and granddad but now have grown up and prefer the consistency of the ocean.
I still have 101 questions for you about fresh water fishing though 😂
@@robivan4126 haha I use to run a weekly live feed here on YT which was great for this type of stuff but unfortunately the trouble makers use to hijack it and spam the hell out of the comments to the point that I stopped doing it which is a shame.
Yeh, the same people who keep undersized fish.
I’ll just have to annoy you with my questions on here then 😂
Hey mate. I'm heading to Echuca for the weekend. Where on the campaspe river is good for a fish? Cheers
Hey buddy I don't know that area at all sorry. Maybe there's a tackle shop in that area that may be able to help?
@@robbiefishing no worries. Thanks for you help
Very nice session. So, Robbie ..... can you do a 'corker' when lure fishing?
Thanks Frank... I think we would have to call it the "improved Corker" whereby you would have to accidently drop the rod in the river. LOL
@@robbiefishing I have done a half Corker on the cast while lure fishing, when the top of the two piece was not solidly on the join and flew off with the lure.
👍🏽👊🏽
Have you got any lure tips for a kid that’s starting luring for cod?
Hi mate, check out my Murray cod playlist, it's loaded with tips. 👍👍
Hey mate just wondering what do you think the best braid is
Hi mate I use Daiwa J braid and really like it.
My biggest Murray cod is 60 cm 9lb and my dad's biggest is 150 cm and 50 lb
WOW that is a monster fish mate. Imagine if you were swimming and noticed that swimming underneath you!
@@robbiefishing nope I'll be straight out of the Water straight away the cod will drown you straight away
Robbie,u happy promoting a knockooff of the local shepparton goulburnn Lures
To be honest I wouldn't even know what goulburn lures look like. Which ones are the knock off?
And to be honest Tony, I am extremely happy doing what I am doing. I have worked very hard to be where I am at the moment. Goulburn Lures is more than welcome to find a youtuber to use and promote their gear. There's plenty of other channels just starting off putting their hand up for sponsors to help them along. Perhaps he can approach them and try and find a partnership?
Hey Tony I just googled Goulburn Lures, and it turns out that Goulburn Lures is owned by Graham Saunders, who also owns the Codger jointed surface lures, which Brett and I both use frequently. There are in fact links to the Codger jointed surface lures in both the video description AND my pinned comment, so I am in fact promoting Goulburn Lures, so I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.
@@robbiefishing Robbie,my mistake. The "Old Mate" lure you promoted in a recent video is a knockoff of Wayne Lennon's Oargee lure.A Wagga Wagga based lure manufacturing business.
@@tonybarnes3859 And mate to be honest, Wayne didn't invent diving Murray cod lures either.
The old mates are actually a bit different than the Oar Gee in that they're tapered at the back and have a ball bearing inside which moves to the back when casting to help make it cast better.
Me promoting a 'knock off' is no different than the car salesman promoting cars... they all steal ideas from each other. Or the kids working at MacDonald's, they steal ideas from KFC and visa versa. Woolies steal ideas from Coles, and Coles steal ideas from Woolies etc...
Imagine if there was no competition... we would all be screwed.
I have spoken to Wayne in the past and he seems like a nice guy. He's done a lot for fishing by sponsoring fisheries research, but at the end of the day I don't owe him anything and he doesn't owe me anything.
What size old mate was that??
Hi mate it is a 15ft old mate.
lol, apologies to the ladies lol, classic
It must have been like their worst nightmare seeing my face shaded out John. LOL
Finely a surface cod those goodoo gang spinnerbaits Bret was using are really good lures
Thanks mate. They certainly look the goods and the guy that runs goodoogang is a ripper fella!
@@robbiefishing yeah Shane’s a great guy
2 vids in 23 hours
Do you remember me from the Waranga Basin
Heu buddy I sure do. 👍👍
That chase bait looks like a budgie
Haha sure does mate. It is a budgie. A budgie lure.
It is :)
Hey Robbie
Where abouts are you fishing ??
R there Murray cod at Brite in the ovens
Hey mate to be honest I am not sure if they are up that far.
@@robbiefishing thanks
if , when i die, i come back as a fish i hope i only ever get caught by Robbie Alexander, that way i have half a chance of survival
knowing my luck, I'd come back as a carp. Karma...
@@AndrewFishman lololololol, well, if that happens hopefully karma will take in to consideration your karp advocacy of the past
@@johnskelly2542 LOL. I can hope 😂
@@AndrewFishman hahahahahahahahahahaha If I come back as a carp I want you to catch me Andrew. LOL
hahahaha John that is funny! Just don't come back as a lake Nillahcootie yellowbelly about 40cm long or you're screwed. LOL
