If Yamaha made models like this today, not a sig, mind you, but thai style? I'd jump all over it! The headstock shape is fantastic, even though i prefer non-reverse, but this thing is just amazing...back then AND today!!
Same here. I was a teenager and a fan of Blues Saraceno and Poison. I remember looking this guitar up back then on the Internet and wanting it but didn’t have the money. Recently, I looked for one for a solid year pretty much daily, and finally snagged one.
One of my all time players, Blues Saraceno rocked in those amazing albums in the late 80's early 90's. Awesome guitars. I still own my Yamaha RGX612MA and RGX612S. Wish I had the Plaid guitar!!
It's all politics, I think. Blues was never really a big name outside us "guitar nerds" so the companies don't want to spend the $$$ to develop a signature model for him. Also, Yamaha is almost invisible in the guitar industry these days. Shame. I wanted one back then but didn't have the money. Cheers.
I used to have a plaid one that I bought from Yamaha UK for £250.00 back in the day but in a moment of madness sold it, then years later picked up a black one from the states for $70.00 which I still own and will never part. Pot and switch are a bit dodgy and have been replaced with added treble bleed and trem is ok quality but the rest is stock ( Japanese built ) and I love it. The bridge pickup in particular is awesome. I hope you make some more videos with this guitar!
Cool! The pot on this is showing its age too, I will be upgrading the electrics soon. The guitar is effectively replacing my white Charvel so will be featuring in most videos from now on :)
Wow. I have one of these. My parents brought it me when i started guitar lessons in the 90s's. Man!! Played it so much but have retired it now as don't want to ruin it. The frets on this are amazing fat and flat
So cool, I had a Yamaha catalogue back in the '90s and was always going back to it to look at this guitar (when I still had dreams of becoming a shredder LOL). Until now I had never seen the back and the neck joint looks a bit strange. But I've never had a bad Yamaha product so I'm sure it's well thought-out.
I have this guitar and its evil twin the Hamer Diablo the have identical necks I think they were made in the same shop & were inexpensive alternatives to the IBBy’s but very cool.
Interesting if it is a vinyl top. I think (that is dangerous) I read at one time there were issues with the paint fading or rubbing off in a bad way. I'm probably wrong though.
Excellent grab.. curious what you paid for it? There is one blues saraceno guitar on reverb for $1799 but it looks super funky compared to the model you have..
Great pickups though I really like the stock Yamaha pickups, I do wonder if they were voiced to match Saraceno's SDs. TBF I'm not sure how those Parallel Axis would sit in this guitar as it's Basswood vs Blues Saraceno's actual guitars which were Alder. You do see the mod on other Yamaha Saracenos though.
A couple things...I LOVE Blues Saraceno. A lot of people dont know his music and it's a shame - he's an absolute monster player. The Plaid guitar has always been my favorite and now that I have some money I can afford to throw around on one. they are nowhere to be found. SO...I am building my own I think..love those designs. Question here for you WHAT SONG is this that he is playing in the intro? I saw a video of Blues playing this tune at a NAMM show but I can't find the song...any help out there?
Well spotted dude! The demo song for this video was something I wrote inspired by the NAMM performance you mentioned :) Dunno if it has an actual title. If you can find a secondhand Yamaha RGZ/RGX you may be able to get a Saraceno model clone made. BTW you might get a kick out this playlist ;) - ua-cam.com/play/PLxP30Hfh2Y8rMS0uvr8dQhR6RETLlzvVE.html
@@mastertheguitar VERY COOL. I love that riff...it's so "Blues" Well done and the tone is killer. I am big into buying Warmoth Bodies and Necks and building guitars that way. @@mastertheguitar does he still play by the way? His name is very much anchored in the 90s in my mind but I've not noticed him on the guitar scene in the past 10 / 15 years
What a great looking guitar. I wondered about that trem. I had one on an ibanez that wasn't all that great. I have a japanese Ibanez that has a Gotoh made, I think Edge trem that is great... Great playing. Blues is a killer player.. By the way. I've not been getting any notices from you for some reason. Just fyi. Maybe you've not been busy?
They’re so hard to find now! I literally checked eBay and Reverb everyday for probably almost a year before finally finding mine. No plans to ever let it go.
You guys have to understand that it was cheaper to produce high quality guitars before and companies where after quality more than profit, to establish a name. Now they can sell garbage for a lot of money. Thats why they dont make good guitars anymore

I have not seen this guitar since the eary 90's. I learned of Blues Saraceno from his very brief run with Poison. I was 16 and wanted that guitar.

That bridge pickup is smooth
What a flashback, Thanks for the vid1👍😎
I also remember the adverts from back in the day. Nice to see they are still around.
Now *that* is a cool signature model to own. Congrats, I'm jealous.
I really like your play and that guitar.

I would love to know exactly how many of these were made.
Mine is a RGZ721 M-R early '90s, wonder if the pickups are the same

The 80’s and 90’s was a great time for Japanese made guitars. I honestly prefer MIJ over MIA.
It looks like someone is wearing clothes...cool
