The money thing essentially means that Ed is not planning on letting Roy and Hawkeye getting themselves killed for what they did. Also you misread the guy's name, it's not Sloth, is Solf J. Kimblee, they said it in the previous episode.

The Homunculi promised Marco that, if he opposed them, they'd slaughter the town where he'd been serving as a doctor.
The Homunculi don't really have any reason to want to unnecessarily piss off the brothers.

The town Kimblee is supposed to destroy is the town Marcoh was treating as a doctor. Remember the hommunculi made him an ultimatum- come with us or we’ll kill everyone in town. Well, Marcoh has escaped and they’re making good on that promise.
It's a genuine Shame that Dr. Knocs talking to Al about his family got Cut it makes the scene with a lot more meaningful.
After Ishval Knocs suffered from PTSD as well as struggling with insomnia when he could sleep he had nightmares and would thrash around. One night his wife was worried for him and tried to wake him and while half asleep and suffering with flashbacks he mistook her for an enemy soldier and attempted to kill her. After that they really couldn't stay together and split up.
Right. Like, it's still an okay scene and all but it would have been nice if we got at brief mention about them in the last episode. Though I get they already had to make cuts to fit the Ishval story into one episode (and even that technically isn't true since Scar's flashback was show a few episodes ago) so it makes sense they'd have to drop it.
I also like knocs story of ishval. Because it makes it clearer why he has his guild.
In the manga, Knocs is one of my favorite smaller side characters. Too bad the anime had to cut a lot of his stuff for time, both the talk with Al about his family and his meeting with Marcoh during the Ishval flashback.
That really does feel like an important scene they could have included 💯
The author of the manga said she always found white suits creepy, so she gave Kimbley one because since he’s a creepy guy.

i always assumed he wore a white suit so the blood of his enemies and the debri of the explosions could stain the suit like a trophy
@@mr.e3123 for Kimbley the real trophy is in walking off the battlefield after a good day's work without a mark on the suit. Oh blood and debris all strewn about the battlefield sure, but his philosophical justifications keep him pure and stainless.
when the suit actually does get stained it's more often _his_ blood than anyone else's, and that's got its own poetic charm.
Kimblee is honestly terrifying to me. The thing with him is that despite being an absolute madman obsessed with killing and destruction...he is somehow a respectful and even likeable person. He is the most scare sort of villain cus he is pure evil, yet manipulative and controlling, he makes people like and trust him. People believe in him before he turns them into paste. He's terrifying.
Kimblee's name is SOLF (as in sulfur), not Sloth, you just read it wrong lol

The village Envy mentioned was the one Doctor Marcoh was living in before he got taken by the Homunculi.
the Doctor Knox thing was legitimately better handled in the manga... a lot of it feels very abrupt in the anime, but the way the events are supposed to be strung together is that you meet him when he's doing the autopsy on the fake body of Maria Ross, then later learn that he was involved in Ishval. the fact that he was involved in so much death and destruction basically made him feel like he had no right to claim the satisfaction of being someone who heals people. it's sort of like, in comparison to the Rockbells, whose hands are meant to give life... Doctor Knox feels like his have taken too many lives away, and are now only fit to work on those who are already dead. that's why he pivots to working as a coroner instead.
as mentioned before, his PTSD from his time in Ishval caused him to attack his wife at one point, so he's pushed his family away too. even without that incident, it's possible that he'd still feel like he doesn't deserve the positivity that comes from having a loving family. the PTSD was just further proof of this concept. but while he's treating Mei Chang and Lan Fan, you can see him displaying care, even through the filter of his gruff persona that is meant to keep people at arm's length, the way he thinks he deserves. the point of his character is to show that, even if your past is full of regrets, you can still make decisions that benefit others going into the future.
a lot of the people who fought in Ishval are atoning in ways that can be self destructive, or self defeating. if the only operative concept is revenge, then all of them deserve to be dead a hundred times over. but sometimes it's not about balancing pain for pain. a lot of the Amestrian veterans who persist, and try to do good, aren't doing it for the sake of earning forgiveness. atonement isn't about paving over past mistakes, or making sure you suffer in kind. it's about choosing to put good into the world from here on out, because it's the least you can do. living with the weight of what you've done is actually harder than giving up and dying, but if anyone is obligated to do that work, it's these people. and sometimes, the hardest part of that work is accepting that sometimes people will be grateful for who you turn into, even if the person you used to be doesn't deserve it.
you can't create more victims with your own self hatred. part of taking responsibility is becoming the kind of person that people might want to know again. that's how you know you've really changed.
ed is doing his typical rebellious teenager thing when he butts heads with mustang, but if you pay close attention throughout the story, you can see that mustang really does care for ed. He probably feels a responsibility since he was the one who recruited ed to the military.
The conversation with Mustang and Hawkeye - Hawkeye was poking fun at Mustang for expressing hesitation (or 'doubt') at their current situation, joking that perhaps she picked the wrong man to back to change the country for the better. (There's even the callback to the conversation where he told her to shoot him if he ever strayed from that path.) ((Obviously that was light hearted banter (albeit referencing the very real and serious things these characters have promised each other) neither was expressing actual doubt))
Ed and Al know it's a panda, but they're also aware that practically everyone else called her a 'weird cat'. No point in calling it something that the general public don't, or at least probably wouldn't, know about.
'Sloth' ... I don't... are you saying that Sloth and Zolf sound similar? I mean, sort of... you kind of have to swallow around the word 'Sloth' to make it fit the sound though. I will say... we _have_ seen Sloth before, back when Greed was captured by Wrath. He asks where Sloth is, and we see him in like... a cave or something?
'The town' is the one Marco was hiding in, the one the Homunculi threatened to destroy if he didn't help them
I understand his confusion, he doesn't know that "Solf" is pronounced "Zolf" (German inspiration), and in some English accents in England, the "th" is pronounced like an "f". From his perspective, you just need to invert the "o" and the "l".
He probably doesn't know that in Japanese, the "th" is rendered as "s" instead, which means "Sloth" is "Surōsu", while "Solf" is "Zorufu".
7:20 -- Mustang's gloves actually have two functions -- one of them is the transmutation circle, and the other is that the fact that they're made of a material which can create sparks when it's rubbed with itself.
So, when he ignites something he usually does it with a spark made with one of his gloves.
In the episode 19, when his gloves were wet, he ignited the fire using Havoc's lighter. Later, after the lighter ran out of fuel and after Mustang's gloves were destroyed, Mustang was using the flint of that same lighter to ignite the fire.
When you see the tank, you've hit fourth gear.
As far as Ed and Mustang go, remember, Mustang is Ed's commanding officer, and Ed has a distinct lack of respect for military protocol, so you can easily see how their personas get along fine, but in terms of respect, there is some grating on both ends. Sloth was mentioned and shown very briefly when the original Greed was beneath Central and melted in the boiling cauldron.
Dr. Knocs is a unique case in the Anime. The guy that Scar and Mei travel with actually got a lot of time in the original Full Metal Alchemist, and his origin story is more or less the same thing in Brotherhood, it's just glossed over with the expectation ppl will know who he is already. As for Knocs though, remember, he was there during the Ishvalan war too, as a coroner, and you can imagine they likely had him doing awful experiments on people as well. Even if he was under orders and had to do it for the sake of his own survival, being complicit in such things weighs on the soul of a person and changes them. He was willing to throw away a picture of his family when Alphonse found it while cleaning and didn't even think about it. He had a tough time relating to his family after the war and they in turn distanced themselves from him. He is definitely the sort of man who would see himself as deserving such a fate given what he know's he's done but that doesn't mean he's happy about it. It's clear he loves his family, and they love him, but the effects of trauma have left them all quite unable to understand one another and communicate past their issues. The show handles it quite well given the time spent on it. Unfortunately, it's a very old and familiar tale of people going off to war and returning home changed, and alienated from the people they once cared for. Trauma has an effect on people.
It always felt like Ed and Mustang find each other somewhat annoying and ridiculous while having a significant degree of mutual respect. Ed Learning about Mustang plans and Ishival only intensifies his respect for Roy imo.
Not in a net negative way but it feels like on the depth of their mind Ed is thinking “how this moron manage to become colonel?” And on Roy’s “how this short tempered kid became a State Alchemist”. And they both also know how much they went through, and how deserving they are of those accomplishments.
Also don't forget that due to his PTSD, Knox lashed out at his wife, mistaking her for an Ishvalan soldier during an episode. The anime is really good, but the manga is just something else entirely
Grandpa didn't say they weren't going to buy an automail, he said they weren't going to buy Winry one.
In the manga, Doctor Knox divorced his wife after he attacked her while he was sleeping. A nightmare of war, a presence next to him, he attacked and nearly slit his wife's throat. Breaking up was a good choice. He has a huge culpability and think he don't deserve his family. He explain that to Al when he find the family picture put the scene wasn't keep in its integrality in the anime so the scene with his family is just... out.
The town that Kimbley has to wipe off the map after catching Marco is the one taken hostage to prevent Marco from committing suicide. This was the town where he had hidden for years under an alias.

14:52: In a normal situation, the surgery and rehabilitation to install the prosthetic takes 1-3 years. Lan Fan did not do anything right now even if she wanted to. Also, you have to keep in mind that non alchemists do not live by the philosophy of Equivalent Exchange. Fu is thankful for the hell that the brothers have given, but Ling is their business before anything else.
About Ed and Mustang, they DO get along well as friends, they were just bantering here. The money pay back thing was Ed's way of saying ''you better oust that damn fuhrer from his throne and take his place, and make this country better. I believe in you/support you. Until then, money's mine.'' (their banters always come off like this because of their big rank difference and the fact that Mustang comes off as a shady guy doing things in a roundabout/secretive way, while Ed is always straightforward about things).

Even with the circle scared into his hand, he needs a spark to use his fire. The gloves are made of a special cloth that sparks with friction, making them ideal for fast-paced combat. He could instead spark a lighter or a flint & steel though.
To be fair to Fu... he is also likely the one who trained Lan Fan and is her 'superior'. She failed quite severely as far as the job goes. And he immediately started to break down after doing "his job" as the head attendant. It's Solf, O before L... so not Sloth which is of course L before O. Speaking of Knox backstory... well not really back story but I think this helped show he wasn't a bad Father... he had problems and he deeply wishes things could have been different. Kimblee is such a good villain. Oh... and that drip!
You saw Sloth before a long time ago during Father’s very first appearance in the underground I believe so Kimblee couldn’t be Sloth since he was in prison at the time

The Town Envy was talking about, with Kimblee isnt Rush Valley, its the Town where Ed and Armstrong Met Marcoh the First time, where he served as a Doctor. He made a Deal with Lust, where they would Spare the Town if he helped them, now that he escaped, of Course the Humonculi want to whipe it out.
Sloth here refers less to lazy than without motivation or caring, almost without will. FMA 2003 has a very different Sloth with different origins, appearance, and actions that would blow your mind.

You already saw sloth when the first greed died. They were talking about sloth but he wasn't there before he has to keep "working"

The Doctor knox family scene is random in the anime becouse of the much cut content from ishvall, I makes it feel out of place.
Truth is, doctor Knox was a doctor assigned to ishval to dissecate corpses and do medical experiments. He followed orders but got severely traumatized by it, as shown in a dialogue between him and Marcoh in the manga "Marcoh, Why I'm killing if I am a doctor?"
Thats why he constantly say he doens't consider himself a doctor and drowned himself in guilt to the point that he separated from his wife and started living in filth because he doesn't have the courage to clean up his place - Some can say that is an unconsious way that he finds to punish himself: living in filth becouse he does not deserves cleaniness, but that's streching a bit.
The dub actually made that scene with his family also become misinterpreeted and less impactfull. When he grabs the cups he actually says:
"God, I don't know if you exist, but if you do, please forgive-me. Would you, at least, allow a man like me the joy of having coffee with his family?"
The treats himself as someone who doens't deserve even that
And That why he was also agains't his son becoming a doctor - Again, it was more clear in the manga.

Actually... Yes.
Knocs's family scene actually makes sense at this point. The last episode (and in this episode when Ed and Al were talking) was all about the atrocities that these people committed in Ishval and their guilt. Knocs's family scene offered the hope of a happy ending for these people who hate themselves as they work to atone for their crimes (e.g. Knocs using his skills to help people instead of wallowing in guilt). Other scenes in this episode do the same (Ed basically telling Mustang to continue helping reform this country instead of giving up, Scar letting Marcoh live to help them, etc.).
Also, they've alluded to Knocs's broken family with the picture that Al found and his role in Ishval with his conversations with Mustang, so they've set up this character development for a while.
TL;DR: Knocs's family scene wasn't random. It's natural within the narrative of the show and integral for character and thematic development.

I feel like Hawkeye is Ed and Al's older sister in a sense. She's not gonna sugar coat things, but she's still gonna look out for them.

Envy told Marco that they would make him watch as they destroy the town he was hiding away in if he didn't go along with the humuculi's plan, leaving with scar is not going along with the plan so envy got someone who could turn the town to rubble in one shot and is plenty experienced in tracking down people. Where I agree it would be more story relevant to destroy Risenbowl or rush-vally we already know that it's Marco's town envy intends to have destroyed.
tbh I don't think Kimblee cares about being in prison much. He has many of the traits of psychopathy, and psychopaths have difficulty attaching emotional values to things, including such things as "being in prison". It's possibly why punishment has no effect on preventing misbehaviour for psychopaths. They just don't really feel anything in particular about being punished. They may understand what "punishment" is and means on a rational level, but it simply doesn't affect them in the same way.
When I was a kid and first time saw this episode. I thought the Doc's son is Envy's disguise come to kill him XD
Kimbley knew well enough that if he is being let out because of orders from high up, it doesnt matter what he does, he would still be set free. He would still be rotting in jail if he wasnt needed.

12:08 Yes the idea is that Roy looks like a libertine Don Juan. There is a scene cut from the manga where Vanessa asks Roy to play, to which he tells her that he can't at the moment, so Madame Christmas says: "shouldn't you just play with Elizabeth?" and Roy replies dejectedly, "No, Elizabeth already has someone else to play with."
And well, we know that Elizabeth is the code name for Hawkeye. 😅.
Kimblee is just an alchemist. Sloth was shown in an earlier episode when Greed was captured. Lust mentioned him and it showed him in a tunnel.
First thing I would do if I was in Al's situation and got my body back would probably depend slightly how I felt at that point, but I think I would want to sleep. After years of being constantly awake a nap sounds great. After that some delicious food and a hot bath.
Actually scratch that. The very first thing would be to hug my bro who just got me my body back, everything else comes later

Knocs was ordered to eksperiment on the ishvalens and he regret doing it. When he talked to Marko in ishval he said: "Doctors are supposed to save people, so why am I killing them." That's why he only works with corpses, because he feels like he no longer has the right to save people.
Ed and Mustang don't resent each other they just like to bicker with each other.
I was also curious who Kimblee was until my second watch of the sears and realized he was the person in the first episode... The Ice Alkamist wen't to talk to see if he'd join in taking down Bradly.
No sure, since you are probably more ahead with Patreon, but for context on why Nox is so jaded. He was actually assigned to dissect corpses from the Ishvalen war, more specifically all the corpses Mustang burned with his Alchemy to gather information for the performance of Alchemy as a weapon. He was literally just mutilating bodies for the entirety of the war and he’s been pessimistic ever since. He was so jaded he actually drove of his wife and kid, that’s why he told Mustang her wife and son left long ago. And that’s why he was sorta happy after treating patients, since he thinks that being a doctor who participated in the war made him someone not worthy of even the tittle.
We've technically already seen Sloth when Father killed Greed and he listed the sins. Kimblee is separate

If I’m not mistaken I’m pretty sure this is basically the last time we see Dr. Knox so I’m sure they were wanting to give his storyline a ‘happy ending’

I've seen lots of people say that Fu is an ass for slapping his granddaughter. And while I don't disagree, I do think that he did it more out of shock than anything else. People can react in weird ways when presented with situations like that. People sometimes laugh when hearing that someone has passed away, for instance. Our emotions have to play catch-up when the truth we're learning about is too big to accept in one go. So we don't really feel the way we should about it until we've been able to work through it all. That can take minutes, or hours, or sometimes even days.
I want to be clear I'm not saying this to excuse Fu's actions. Even at times like that, showing restraint is important. The fact that he didn't have the restraint to contain his initial anger could imply that he has hit her before. Physical abuse is never okay. But I do think it's important to look deeper into what's going through Fu's mind as well at this time. He's not just doing that for shock value or to tell us he's an ass. For better or for worse, his kind of reaction is not all that strange in that situation. And knowing that allows me to appreciate how realistic the writing of this story is even more.
The scene with Marcos Son and wife is pretty much a short form of the manga. Marcoh is kind of like a War vet with PTSD who comes home changed and eventually drives even his wife and kids away because he is so miserable in his own skin that he cannot tolerate anyone around him.
Marcoh cannot see himself as a real doctor anymore after he took so many lives and he alienated his wife and son, because he did not feel deserving of even having a life or a family. This is to show that, I think his wife and son knew this. Knew that he didn't hate them, he hated _himself_ and maybe this isn't even the first time they have tried to reach out to him, but because of his recent experiences he is this time willing to leave the door open, just a crack for them to creep bak into his life and to maybe deserve a tiny bit of happieness

Now Scar is searching for his brothers research because he may have noticed that something else is happening related to ishval genocide. It may not look like it, but Skar is pretty clever despite how barbaric he behaves.

There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. I made playlists on my channel, so you don't need to search, cause in those compilations are a few off and not in the correct order. Thanks for checking out!

Yeah, the scene with Knox's family is pretty weird. I feel like you could take it out of the episode and nothing would be lost.
I don't care for most anime. This show is great though. I think reacting to "The Big O" might be pretty popular too. You'd probably enjoy the story and get some big laughs out of its use of anime tropes and humor.

No, not weird or random. I like Knocs. Even without the anime info. Why? Because you see the underlying emotions that he has been struggling with since the Ishvalan war. And he is a good person and wants to be a family man but doesn’t believe that his soul has an opportunity for redemption.
