Bradley is such an amazing character. He knows he can put down anyone that steps up to him, but he'd rather deal with his problems without brute force. Only resorting to it when he loses control of the situation or person in question. He is the definition of evil politician and I love him for it.

He is Wrath but it's not vocal it is focused and quiet.
Mrs Bradley slapped him was a great add on to his story.

I assume basically all the top level officers in central are bad, if you're not then you're moved away from central and away from relevance.
You've probably forgotten who Grumman is and I don't blame you since he's not that major early on. He was actually much earlier in the series before Mustang's transfer to Central and was his boss there before moving.
I think he even showed up in the previous episode?

@@nail1247I found that out about a year ago and was very shocked when I found out.
In regards to the tech level in the show; aside from automail, all of the technology in the show matches up with real life of that timeframe. We can see from Maes Hughes' tombstone that the year is 1914, which makes sense as they have trains and cars, but don't have planes. Pistols similar to those shown in the show were standard issue to the military, and the suits look similar as well to what it would have been like back then as well.
Uh I don't know about that. I don't want to spoil Luke, but the thing we see 1 minute into the opening was not a thing in our 1914. The specific design is the kind of design we should only see post-WW1, and the concept as a whole didn't exist in 1914, at least not in physical form. I also think some of the radio designs, as well as microphone designs, are a bit too modern for 1914, but I'm not entirely sure. I should ask my father about that, he's a big nerd for old radios and microphones. The clothes also sometimes seem a bit too modern.
I think of the universe of Fullmetal Alchemist as just its own world, generally inspired by early-20th century Europe, more than being modelled after a specific year or even decade of our world. The fact they don't have airplanes at all, like, zero trace of them anywhere, even though in our world, we definitely had them by 1914, and yet, they also have [the thing I said I wouldn't spoil], is a big indicator of that.
Armstrong is actually the only male out of five siblings.
He's got 3 older sisters and one younger.
The general mentioned is the oldest.
We get a short glimpse of the remaining 3 sisters in a later episode.

The little girl was in the East City station. Heading north. She crossed paths with the sus grandma at East Station, where she (sus) was taking a train to head to Central to meet Mustang. Scar and his chasers were heading from Central to West City. Kimbley crossed paths with sus grandma in Central Station, her leaving, him entering the station heading to West City, chasing Scar's leads.
Mei and Scar were on opposite sides of the country.
yap, the scene at Bradley's house is weird, but it has meaning.
The Elrics are allowed to continue searching for a way to retrieve their bodies, but Bradley takes it upon himself to remind them that they are being watched, and that he will find out about anything they do, therefore any wrong move would be fatal. That's why he says: "even a person like me has a home to return to." That is a terrible threat.
Also one of Bradley's tactics is to throw a few words into the air and see how others react, in order to know if they are lying, telling the truth, or understanding what he wanted to say. And well, Ed isn't very good at hiding his emotions either 😅, he's almost an open book.
And you won't have to wait that long, in the next episode you will meet Major General Armstron, The ice Queen, The Brigg's wall, The boss. hahaha man, she is amazing.
Finally a character that doesn’t get the brothers confused
There's a few reason's crossing the desert is the only option but as for trains, you need a stationary place to put the tracks. Desert's or more specifically the dunes, are not stationary, they move.

The time period the show takes place is a parallel to our own world from the year around 1908-1916. So you have things such as automobiles, trains, automatic pistols that are rather basic, and rifles. Even machine guns and such. There are some exceptions to the prominence of some technologies such as radio, armored vehicles, and the like, but such things are fair enough considering the things alchemy can accomplish in terms of technology. Like Automail for instance. We have nothing like that in our world but in the world of FMAB it's commonplace.
Mei has gone to the East, and Scar has gone West, they know that the forces of Central are chasing them so, it's worthwhile to ask both why they split up, and, why they headed in opposite directions, especially when Scar said his brother's research notes were hidden up in the North.

I don't think they ever go over it in the anime so... Grumman is Hawkeye's maternal Grandfather.
Arakawa, the author, has said that Amestris was based on the Weimar Republic which was the named of the interwar German government.
So I reckon that what they have is pretty much 20’s and early 30’s tech.
Guess this also explain where the fuher thing and other stuff came from.
When Ed first meets Ling in the manga, it's suggested there's a different route to travel from Xing to Amestris that is more typical which is why it's bizarre Ling bothered to travel through the desert (Ling did so to pass the ruins of Xerxes though). But there's little reason to try to build train tracks through an unpopulated desert (and all the difficulties of dealing with the sand) in order to connect two countries that aren't politically or economically close.
You might not know yet where Scar is heading, but May Chang (Panda girl) told old woman Grunman she was heading North and was running off to the northbound train that was just leaving.

There's some interesting things in this episode.
About Grumman, He was Roy's superior officer when He was at East City. A very smart man and an important character.
About Lior conflict... Same as Yoki and Barry stories, it seems like a random thing in this version but it is explained in detail on the 2003 FMA.
About Armstrong big sis... you know at this point women on FMA are very strong and badass... Well..She is not badass... General Olivier Mira Armstrong is the Boss. She's at the top of badass characters list. The ice woman. So much respect for her 🙌

The family scene in the manga is more natural. I find Bradley is more likeable in the manga than in the anime. It’s like the anime is too focus on the evil and wrathful side of him instead of the curious and humorous side. I like him as a character because he’s more than just a d*ckhead (as Luke called) that only like to cause misery and threaten people lol
Weather control is a grander ability, but animal control seems more practical more often. (especially if you can't just ignore the law of conservation of mass and energy)
For me controlling the weather would probably be my pick... But animals would also be super awesome (especially if it counted bugs) I could make spiders and hornets stay away from me, and I could go hug bears without getting mauled.
I mean with animals you could also basically have slaves, I wouldn't do that though cuz I'd feel terrible. That's just another reason weather is better, you're not forcing a living being to do something against it's will XD

Grumman is an amazing character! So well written
General Grummin is on the same page as Mustang. He knows something is fishy and wants to see things change. But Maj. Gen. Armstrong is definitely a total badass. Oblivious is the word to describe Mrs. Bradley.
The fact that the subs always said the name of the person who's talking it's not fair, you can't get the total surprise from the twists ;;

Kimblee is one of my fave anime villains ever, he is psychotic and he is very aware of it, its not mentioned in anime but in manga he says he is aware of is lunatic nature

Bradley, being Wrath, sees everything as a threat. Like when Mustang asked about how Selim would think if he found out he’s a homunculus, Bradley’s first response is “Is that a threat?” then he proceeds to relocate all of Mustang’s men.
Here, he heard Ed and Al were in his house, with his wife and son. He went there as a priority because, in his mind, this was a threat. His family grounds him, he did admit that all his life has been chosen by Father…but he chose his wife. Here, he proceeded to remind Ed and Al of their family (Winry and Granny), that he knows where they are, that he’d get rid of them if the brothers harmed his family.
Wrath is a complex emotion. People dismiss it as evil, but at its core, it’s a means of protection. If you care for someone and they’re at harm’s way, anger is what gives people the power to fight back. Bradley is a prick, but his wrath is anchored upon his care for his wife, she’s the main reason for his protective urges which he channels into his pure rage.
This isn’t a novel concept. Lust, for example, could’ve just avoided all of Hawkeye’s attacks. But she didn’t, the sensation of being pierced by the bullets fuels her lust. This became her downfall, yes, because those bullets contributed to killing off the souls in her stone…but she wouldn’t be Lust if she didn’t have a reason for her lasciviousness. She enjoys the pain of things (even bullets) penetrating her…I’d go as far as even say that she enjoyed the tingling sensation of regenerating her burnt body.
It's kind of funny seeing King Bradley playing the role of a proud parent.
It is set around the same time ww1 was happening in our world they tell u the year several times throughout the show and it's always early 1900s so that's why the technology feels like a weird mix of old and new. They used both horses and tanks in ww1

No way! Controlling animals is way better. Never have to litter train pets, if you’re drowning call a whale to save you, never have to hunt if you’re stranded, on Christmas you can actually have reindeer in your yard, etc. there’s just so much versatility there

Re: Controlling the weather vs controlling animals - controlling animals is about 1000% less likely to accidentally reesult in completely mucking up the ecosystem and causing untold devastation, so I'd go with that, personally. Like it's not impossible to accidentally a minor apocalypse by controlling animals, but it's significantly easier not to fuck up on a global scale.

Yeah, the halfway point is where a lot of the threads finally start coming together- along with the final main players. Can't wait for you to meet them all!
To be fair to the suits, men's formal wear is a form of fashion that has changed the least (or at least, in the least obvious ways) over the last 100 years or so- and this was set in a different world that is set at roughly 100 years ago to us. Right down to the ends of imperialism and expansionist violence affecting the world.
Finally, yeah, Kimblee is a lot of things, including whip smart. It's one of the many traits that make him an awesome villain. One of the things I'm looking forward to you seeing is the escalating conflict with him.
There's people watching this particular video, that was probably born after 2000, would've thought That scene with the dude dressed as a lady wouldn't begin to think that was a suspicious moment, because of today's society 😅

I wanna make a joke regarding Bradley and Selim but I'm always worried that i would end up giving away a spoiler.
27:50 From a purely super powered viewpoint, weather is way better offensively and defensively. Could stop or create hurricanes, tornadoes, heat, cold etc. That said, from a scientific standpoint, that would cause absolute mayhem for our atmosphere. Therefore, if we think about it logically, controlling animals would be the safer choice.
Given the recent heatwaves where I live I would absolutely take weather control.also IMO it's just more impressive.
- Being validated by Kimblee of all people for a character acting suspicious is definitely an event lol.
- I love Mrs. Bradley as a character. It's so poetic that of all people the incarnation of Wrath could've married, it had to be a woman brazen enough to slap him across the face before they even knew eachother.
- Seeing Salim idolize Edward so much is such a breath of fresh air when you consider most people can't even identify Ed as the Fullmetal Alchemist (they immediately assume it's Al), and Salim is so head over heels that he even knows Ed's ticks and peevs. It's also interesting to see how the Bradley house functions. But yeah now that you mention it, I expect it's normal Presidency stuff that they assume he is constantly doing. It seems like Bradley is fairly open with his family too. Even the day he captured Greed and met with Father, he immediately came home and told Salim he ran into his favorite Alchemist, Ed, and omitted the grisly stuff.
-It's really nice seeing Kimblee in flashbacks as a crazy weapon of mass destruction, but then seeing once he's out of prison and working on a case outside of war, that he is still a highly trained soldier. He's intelligent enough to understand alchemy and be state certified, so seeing him use real time deductions to locate someone is always a nice touch I appreciate that grounds him more as a character and also shows that state certified alchemists aren't just picked because they look cool. They have certifications to back it up.
Can't wait for next episode!
Re: Kimblee's intelligence. -During the Ishvalan flashback,- Nevermind this is later, we also get a scene of -Mustang- Ed asking Kimblee how someone like him was able to pass the State Alchemist mental state exam (which is supposed to weed out the crazies). His response was "it's easy if you know in what ways you deviate from the norm".
Shows that Kimblee's also aware that he's not "a normal person" mentally speaking, further underlining his intelligence. Man may be a nutcase, but he's aware of it and knows how to work around it in society.
(Of course the exam's effectiveness in general may be questionable due to what the State Alchemist system is actually used for and who's running it, but still a neat detail.)
I just finished reading this web novel called Worm so no, I choose animals. Weather may look cooler, but the possible uses of animals you control is just amazing! Really recommend the web novel if you like superhumans, heroes and villains, it's much more realistic than any other story I read or watched.

Controlling Animals would be great if a rabid animal was trying to attack you, and if there's someone you need to fight, you can sick animals on them, but I'd still prefer Controlling the Weather.
Weather could achieve both of those things plus more(you could literally attack with Lightning).
My main use for Weather control would be to make Severe Storms go away.
You could also harness Lightning for Electricity, which would be pretty nice.

To answer your question That is and isn't the way you spell Fuhrer. See, the word comes from Germany (Yeah, shocker, iknow) and we spell it with what is call ed an 'Umlaut' "Führer"
Since english doesnt have that, they spelled it with just an 'U' and they do pronounce it a bit differently from the original german.
I don't see how I didn't get the clues the first time I saw this ep. I mean... There should have been warning bells when that one meeting occurred in this when something was different from normal.
The way the technology level doesn't make sense is because the series' setting is inspired by World Wars era Europe

the priest grapping at power story line was focused more in the 2001 FMA. brotherhood rushed though what the previous one all ready done before it detracted from the source material.

But Kimblee caring only about killing and being free to express his sadistic artistical side of murdering, had no reason at all to report the situation. Also "Not my job" is not quite a correct translation, as in "Not my business" would have been a more correct shade of meaning.
6:57 Not at all indeed, just those few Generals we saw the time Mustang got what Hughes meant, were the ones within the knowledge of such act. The soldier who "side" with such plan, are merely obeying their direct superiors or the Generals themselves one way or another. Think of it as a Manhattan Project sort of. There were not even a single clue that could point out to it being about a broader crowd than that room's itself.

Because of what you said about there not being railroads between Amestris and Xing.. I started thinking about that and here are my thoughts on that (for which I only used information, of which I know you've allready seen (because I watched you waching them)):
You have to keep in mind that building a cross border railroad always is a shared infrastructure project between two countries. For which there need to bee diplomatic ties between tose two countries. I am not sure, wether or not there are diplomatic ties between Amestris and Xing but since Ling came to amestris as an illegal imigrant - remember he's the son of the EMPEROR of Xing with all the money and resources that come with that status - I don't think there is a legal way to travel from Xing to Amestris. If that is the case I don't think that Amestris and Xing are on that great of terms diplomaticly.
Then there is the problem that those two countries don't technally have a shared border, since between them is a massive uninhabited (and acording to the map shown in the show unclaimed dessert). So to conect those two countries via railroad, that rails would need to either go through the desert between them, the sea to the south or their shared northern neighbor Dracma.
A traintrack through the desert is extremely expensive to build and maintain (and I'm not even sure if its even possible with the tech level of our worlds 1940s) eitherway additionally neither Amestris nor Xing have claims over the desert, so who pays for building and maintaining the railroads in the no man's land. Of course that is no absolute obstickle but at least one that promises decades of bickering over money even if the countries had good diplomatic ties.
Regarding the option of going throu (briges) or below (tunnels) the sea, there are the same problems as in the desert but more intense.
And in regards to Dracma, there is a mountain range between Amestris and Dracma. And according to the show the only reasons that there is no open war between Dracma and Amestris is, that it's hard to invade through mountains. So a railroad project through Dracma is also technically dificult and diplomaticly even more so.
So the short answer is building such a railroad would be a extremely expensive Gigaproject with huge obstickles. And there just wasn't the political will to overcome those.
